- Kirby has been in every single game in the super smash bros series, and in each of them his main gimmick has always been his copy ability. In Super Smash Bros Ultimate, Kirby has almost 90 unique copy abilities he can use from the game’s large roster. Each of these copy abilities give Kirby a unique hat based on that character, however some Kirby hats are much better than others. So today I want to rank all of the Kirby hats in super smash bros ultimate based on their design, animations, and voice lines from Kirby. Fun fact about kirby’s Terry copy ability: Normally the dev team keeps the dlc characters secret from voice actors but while Kirby’s voice actress was doing voice lines saying Power wave, she found out terry was coming to smash because of her experience playing Fatal fury with her brother.

Well it is a dead giveaway, considering that there's only a few Kirby voices that that directly reference a character.
Among the newcomers in Ultimate only Power Wave references a character. (unless you count Ken's Hadouken but that just reuses the line used in Smash 4 for Ryu's copy). That and Pyra/Mthra.
There's also Sora but the words Kirby says are generic anyway.

My favorite part about kirby as a fighter is that sakurai managed to implement the copy mechanic in the game without it being one of his core abilities, giving his main power representation without it being his whole shtick
Yeah, it was so cool to me when I realized that all of Kirby's directional speacial moves were references to his other copy abilities (keep in mind, my first experience with Kirby, indeed with a lot of Nintendo characters, save for Mario, Link, Zelda and Ganondorf were from Smash Bros Brawl and that it wasn't till years later that I actually played a Kirby game for the first time. [Return To Dreamland, in case you're wondering] )
This is wjy I love kirby as it is and hate how peolle jus think that if kirby is a megaman and get canon copy ability (get fire from mario) it'll be better they just to focused on reference not realizing that it was also supposed to be represent kirby AND smash

Fun fact about Min Min's: Kirby's version has a laser in it. Min Min actually _does_ have that laser in her moveset, but not in her neutral special. Instead, it's in her *forward smash.* _Yep,_ Kirby actually copies Min Min's *forward smash* rather than her neutral special! 🤯🤯🤯
Olimar Kirby also combines his Neutral and Side Specials into a single move.

I'm taking this as validation that Kirby should copy more then just neutral specials, especially for echo fighters who traditionally just have their base character's neutral special. It'd be so cool if copying Ken gave you shoryuken, or copying daisy gave you her side special instead "toad, but blueberry flavoured"

Something cool about Bowser's animation and Ness's backwards hat are references to actual copy abilities. Fire Kirby goes in the same pose to breathe fire in the older games and wheel Kirby's hat's backwards too (and yo-yo, I guess)
Yo-Yo is actually a direct reference to Ness in main series, so this is really going full circle (and yes, ESP in Robobot is also a Ness reference)

Ice Climbers gives Kirby his Freeze hat, Dr. Mario gives him his Doctor hat, Pit gives him the Angel hat, and ROB gives him the Beam hat. Probably helps that Sakurai developed both Kirby and Smash.
I think the reason Mewtwo’s works so well is that it’s within the theme of the character. It makes Kirby look like some freaky science experiment…which is exactly what Mewtwo is!

The reason Kirby gets his own keyblade is on Sakurai's decision to be consistent with the lore that only Sora can wield that specific keyblade while everyone else would get their own version

@@michaelthatoker7125 In Xenoblade Chronicles, Monado's are also "sacred or something" I'm not sure, but in theory nobody but the one chosen by the Monado can weild it, just like the keyblade, but Kirby can use the Monado just fine.
@@RGC_animationyeah, but the Monados are not sentient objects. Keyblades literally refuse to stay in a person's hand whenever someone isn't chosen even remotely tries to hold them.
Can't we just accept the reality that there are bigger hurdles to jump in using a Disney owned IP from another franchise of another platform/console than the Monado which is also from Nintendo.
I don't like Pac-man Kirby because his eyes should have been Pac-man eyes.
Also yeah I agree on Young Link, missed opportunity to give him one of his masks. Maybe have him have a white hat and Fierce Deity face paint.

I was going to say that the mask thing wouldn't work because the hat has to be something recognizable to players who haven't played the game the fighter is from. But then they did exactly that with Lucina so... whatever!
I think I cool mask idea if they were to go with the Deku mask, would be to have Kirby turned into a Deku Shrub

If they just changed the Charizard copy ability to just the wings, whether they change color with Kirby's skin or not (like Jigglypuff), it'd be so much better.

Both the Samus hat and the Jigglypuff was changed from Smash 4 to Ultimate. Obviously Puff’s hat didn’t change color in 4, but it actually did in past games. As for Samus, in Smash 4 you could actually kind of see Kirby’s face through the visor, which made the hat even better imo.
Yeah, and sadly this happens with the actual Samus too, you used to be able to see her face through her visor, but you can't do that in Ultimate anymore, which kind of kill the charm of it imo.
PJiggles actually mentioned the color thing with Inkling's but in a different way: He said it's weird that the ink color doesn't match the hair color (for example, blue ink with orange hair)
Kirby saying “flame nova” and “lightning buster” with pyra and mythra with the hats one sounds rly cute
I love the contrast between simple ol' Kirby being your most-played and then your second-most is Steve, who requires a degree in quantum physics to function as a victor.

Kirby wearing Ness's hat backwards is a reference to his yo yo copy ability and since Ness uses a yo yo it's perfect
My favorite Kirby hat is Kirbys Kirby hat where Kirby just wears another Kirby on himself looking the exact same as before. A true stroke of genius from Sakuri.

13:28 Actually from what we know this is likely supposed to be a reference to Kingdom Hearts lore in which even if Sora gives the Keyblade to someone else he is the only one worthy to use it, Kirby isn't a keyblade wielder so his is just made out of magic.

That's true for practically every Kirby copy abilities, they are always a bit better than the original version.

What's weird about the King K. Rool hat is that after Kirby uses the moves, the ending animation has Kirby sweep his arm above his head, indicating he was probably also going to wear the pirate hat and remove it. Maybe he was intended to wear the hat during the move but they forgot to add it?
Link’s hat is used in half of his alts, as many link alts use it as the ones that don’t. On top of that, Kirby with a link hat is just cute, there being 2 clones of him doesn’t make his worse imo.

Back in the Smash 64 days, my brother and I thought Captain Falcon's hat was easily the coolest of the ones Kirby could get in the game. Glad to see that, even with all the competition in Ultimate, it's still a top tier hat!

The actual reason Kirby uses a Keyblade made of magic rather than the actual Kingdom Key is because Keyblades are pretty tempermental, and don't like being wielded by people who can't use one- such as when Sora let Jack Sparrow hold his Keblade, and it simply returned to Sora's hand on it's own after a few seconds (also, Keyblades in general are pretty picky, and that's why there aren't a massive amount of Keyblade wielders (like, maybe a few thousand at most during the Union X era)).
As a Xenoblade fan, I love Kirby's Shulk hat for another reason. A big ploy point early on in the game is that Shulk is the only one who can wield the Monado, and someone else tries to but gets severely hurt. Yet apparently Kirby didn't get this memo. 🤣

Two little details that connect 2 Smash copy abilities and 2 Kirby copy abilities:
1. Kirby's stance while using specifically Bowser's Fire Breath is one to one how he stands when using the Fire ability in Super Star. Strange how Charizard never got the same treatment.
2. Popo's hat is the closest a Smash and Kirby copy ability have been, with it just being the Freeze ability hat from Nightmare in Dreamland. People would say the Links but I wouldn't mostly cause I'm unreasonably salty they had 3 different oppurtunities to use the yellow part of the Sword abilities hat but didn't ever.
This was probably the case before Forgotten Land came out, because one of the sword upgrades is literally the meta knight copy ability.

For Byleth’s, I think the reason it gives Kirby a knife is because there’s a plot significant knife that looks like that in 3 Houses, but it isn’t Byleth’s, so it’s a bit of a weird choice. Makes sense if you get it from the Edelgard or Dimitri alt though.
For once, I think I genuinely agree that a Minecraft deserves the number one slot. I love how Kirby looks with his Shulk, Pyra/Mythra, Game and Watch, Banjo, Joker, Inkling, and Cloud skins, but Minecraft Steve is easily his best skin. It changes his model, gives him blocks (the second best neutral B, behind Monado), matches his color, and just looks really good.

Fun Fact: Ice Climbers' hat was used in the earlier mainline Kirby games, and is still used in Kirby's Spin-Off games, known as the Freese copy ability.

Okay, so the reason Kirby can't have a keyblade is that he isn't able to. Keyblades can only be held by people who are chosen by either the blade itself or another keyblade wielder if there hearts connected. So the only character that can wield one besides Sora is Mario because his heart connected to Soras when they shook hands

the reason why kirby got the basic ink color from inkling, is because when there are 7 kirby's, all copied the inkling, each will have a different color. based on the colors of inklings skins

Mr Game and Watch will always be my favourite Kirby hat and character, I fell in love all the way back in the Melee days.
The dagger on byleth Kirby actually has some significance from 3 houses, byleths home game as a stand in for dimitri’s/edelgard’s dagger which is actually a pretty big plot point in one of the routes, so that’s probably why it’s there

Great video pal, I would have Cloud and perhaps also Sephiroth in the Top 10 on account of being iconic looks that didn’t need to do any more, but appreciate your detail in the ones that go the extra mile (even if you’ve got some oddities like Banjo and PAC-MAN in the Top 10)

I went into this thinking I’d have a lot to say about half the hats in the list, but I found myself agreeing with your reasoning on almost all of them, the only suggestions I have for the hats are as follows:
I think that, as ugly as it would look, the Miis should have their faces plastered onto Kirby himself, instead of on a headband. It would serve well as a representation of a custom character, as well as being a funny reference to Miitopia, where the residents’ faces were taken and put onto monsters.
I also have a minor complaint about Banjo Kazooie’s hat, being that the necklace just looks like it sunk into Kirby’s body, which looks off to me, it doesn’t affect its placement overall, but it still bothers me.
And finally I wanted to point out that I think the Inkling hat should’ve shot a rainbow ink colour, since Kirby often has rainbow motifs.
So, yeah… only two, arguably three hats, since one of didn’t even disagree with any point you made, so that should tell you how much I enjoyed this video as a whole. Consider me pleasantly surprised.

One thing I just noticed is that the meta knight copy ability is the exact same as the one in Forgotten land. I guess it just carries over the many Smash references in the Kirby series.

Wire-frame Little Mac has also that different sound for his Neutral-B, so it's kinda fitting
I think for the Mii hats they should have made the headgear fit the class type of the Mii Fighter so Kirby would have a fighter bandana for Brawler, a royal headband like Marth's for Swordfighter, and some kind of futuristic visor for Gunner. And of course the paper Mii face will still perch on top of them.
My personal favourite is mr game and watch and thank you for sharing every reason why 😅
