    Unfortunately you dont have a right to refuse service in many places no matter how abusive the customer is. As to that store manager, I would have told him to go and stick the bread slicer where the sun dont shine when he claimed I was the instigator. Specially when she was abusive the last time.

    Son complained once in front of me; his Mom often answered questions with, "Maybe Later". He said that was how he learned that the were never going to get to do it. I didn't know for a couple of years that she was doing this. No happy ending, just she finally found out that she was a "No-sayer."

    Trucking story: I've driven for a couple of big name companies. It's not quite as easy as you may think to pick up an abandoned truck. First you have to have a driver available to go get the truck and often have to rent that driver a car to get there and then pay for a taxi from car rental place to where the truck is. The real expense comes in if the load was to keep a production line going which happens more often than you may think due to "just in time" deliveries. Many factories don't keep large quantities of parts/supplies on hand due to the expense. If a line is shut down due to a late delivery the trucking company pays dearly.

    Agree with traveling once we get back to semi-normal. Even if it's your own country (Americas) or continent (Europe/Asia)... travel makes you see different things than what you know and will help round you out. I am grateful for my travels to various western and southern parts of my own USA.
    Penultimate story was hilarious as well. Good on you Mac.
    All other stories had great MC as well... just had to highlight favorites.
    Thanks to all OPs, MC committers, and KCC for this episode of Storytime.

    • @Inspectorzinn2
      @Inspectorzinn2 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      You do realize the same stuff happens all the time in societies where the population is all the same race. People pick insults on the most immediate features, you look rich? "rich bitch", you look poor "homeless trash", you good looking? "stuck up pretty boy", you look ugly "ugly bitch", you tall/thin? "green bean twig" you short/fat? "tomato, potato, ect". Race is just one of the fastest/easiest features to identify, hence the easiest go to insult. Most of the time people are going to scream, yell, insult whoever, it doesn't matter the race, but race is just the easiest insult to come up with. People think racist slurs means the person is racist, but it's just an insult like an of the hundreds of others picking on social status, wealth, religious, sex, ect. Realistically only a small % of people using racial slurs are motivated by actual race rather than just the convivence of using a racial slur.

    Story four: My brother did the same thing. He worked for a trucking company in Ohio and had to take a load to California. in Arizona he had reached his limit in hours and told them that he was stopping for the night. They told him to fudge his log and to keep driving. He left the truck in a parking lot, took a cab to the airport and flew back to Ohio

    In the late 60s or early 70s I had a friend that was an owner/operator. Every month he got a check for his pay, and a second check for the trucks pay. After some time, the truck check was missing or short. He was told that it was just a temporary thing, and that they would catch up in the next month's check. Well, they did not catch up. He had a load of something that was watched over by Uncle Sam, and he hid the truck and trailer in the mountains. (Northern Cali, or Southern Oregon) They actually sent thugs to his house to "convince" him to cooperate. He was ex military and had many friends. He called together these friends when he started this episode. They definitely had his back. Not only did the thugs fail, but it was worse than that. The company decided to pay him all of his money, and he delivered the merchandise. He then quit, and went on with his life.
    I asked him what his friends did, and he told me that I did not want to know. That was good enough for me. When he got mad, he scared me. Like I said this was 40 to 50 years ago, things work differently now I hope. I use to talk to truckers that use to run 3 log-books to do that "creative" book keeping.
    In the 90s, I needed a CDL for work, but I was a mechanic. It did not matter to DOT wether I was driving my service truck, or pulling wrenches. I have been out in the field working on something, when my boss would call me on the phone and tell me that I was out of hours and to come in for a couple of days. At the time, I thought that was awesome. My normal day was 12 hours, and went up from there to 29 hours. (I only did one of those)
    I found out after a while that burning the candle at both ends does not give you twice the light, it just damages the candle. Thankfully, I am now retired.

    14:47 this reminds me of just how under appreciated truckers are, some people even have to gull to mock them for "not having a real job and just sit on their butt, and blah blah blah"

    8:41 the problem with that in the states, and probably some of Canada, you can't record someone everywhere commercially, as of today in the US there are 11 of the 50 states that are 2 party consent, as in if you records someone else with out their nalage or consent, it can lead to legal repercussions, or arbitration

    Quick question. Is there under the road truckers? I've heard over the road twice today and I'm to lazy to Google it.

    • @HappilyHomicidalHooligan
      @HappilyHomicidalHooligan 3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Over the Road Truckers are the ones that travel long distances between pickup and delivery such as pickup a load in Vancouver BC and deliver it to Toledo OH. Most are away from home for a week or two and some for even longer.
      I used to know an O-T-R Trucker that didn't even own or rent a home, he owned his Truck and drove for 3-4 Months, living out of the Truck and when he needed some extended down-time, he went to a nice area, parked in a good Truck Stop, rented a car and lived in a camp ground or hotel while he did Tourist stuff each day and 2-3 weeks later, he'd climb back in his Truck and go back to work for another 3-4 Months until he needed more down-time...That was his life, he had no living family and all his friends were Truckers too...

    • @Trijem
      @Trijem 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Under the Road - is called Local. These drivers only drive to a location an hour or two (perhaps a bit longer)away from home, and they expect to be home by evening or night.
      🚚 Dry cargo
      🚛 Refrigerated cargo
      🚐Short Bus
      🚖 Cab/Taxi
      🚍 Public/School bus
      They might not need a CDL(Commercial Drivers License.
      But a Limo, Cab, Bus and OTR Truck drivers need a CDL.
