  • The dominance of Tadej Pogacar has become somewhat controversial, although it was predicted that this would be the case before the Tour de France even started. We heard from Lance and George this morning on THEMOVE. Find out how Johan feels about it on this episode of JB2.

So The Moves take on todays stage was, by your opinion, untrue, dishonest and biased?
Of course George and Lance were biased as to todays stage win. They wanted to see Jorgensen win. That doesn’t make their opinion untrue or dishonest.
Your own statement implies a bias.

obviously you did not listen to Lance in all past episodes of the move... Lance was absolutely not speaking as an American today, he just repeated what he already said in past days, from the perspective, he is most adequate to speak about, considering his history. And everything he wanted to say is that if he would not have behaved in the same way Pogacar did today, he would still be the winner of 7 TDFs. Because you like it or not, TDF is also a political thing, as he defined it.... and once you get people asking questions and doubting your performances, you are burned.

Johan is correct from a racing/sport perspective. Lance is correct from a perspective greater than cycling. Given the history (which all these guys were a part of), the scrutiny that TP will now be under will be crazy intense. You don't want that heat in your life and Pogacar will discover that real soon. George was just plain wrong. Nobody cares about letting Americans win bike races, come win them on your own.

Nice to hear Johan's perspective on Pogacar, as Lance and George made fools of themselves today on The Move. How long do you really think Tadej's reign is going to last, anyway? When Alberto Contador first emerged, people thought that he'd match or surpass Lance's record at the Tour de France. When a very young Egan Bernal first emerged, everyone thought he'd go one to win several Grand Tours. There could very well be an unknown rider who emerges in the next few years that will strike fear into all the riders on the podium of this year's Tour. There are _always_ new, super-talented riders that unexpectedly arrive on the scene. Let Pogacar do all that he can, while he can. This won't last forever. Bask in the glory of it, and consider yourselves lucky enough to have witnessed it. If Lance and George get their feelings hurt because their personal friends aren't winning, who cares? Just wait until more and more riders start arriving from distant shores like that of Eritrea. Celebrate the best, and console the rest. But don't expect handouts along the way. 🤷‍♂

Pogačar is GOAT. Greatest of all times. At least fot now. But far from Mature. And he neither had to fight Primoz last year. This year he won by force. The tactic of UAE is a disaster in this TDF: Fortunately Visma is very weak and Jonas was injured. UAE need to mature their tactics and Pogacar needs to mature himself, if not they will burn themself one way or another, as they are doing this TDF. Just look at all the questions and doubts that have risen up and you will understand what I mean.

Visma had crap tactics in this stage, while UAE was super strong with 5 guys throughout the race. Let's remember that Jonas is the two-time defending champion of this race and two days ago he said he CAN still win this tour this year. So you have to take him at his word and assume he's holding an attack. He won the tour by 7.5 minutes last year AND stage 11 this year head to head with Pogi. Only today did Jonas say he's fighting for P2. Merckx won 8 stages in the tour twice. It's night and day difference. So everyone needs to show Pogacar and UAE respect, simple as that.

  • @455LT1
    @455LT1 หลายเดือนก่อน +6

Thank you! Jumbo beat him up the last two years. He fixed the holes in his fitness and had to listen to everyone saying he'd blow up in this type of stage, so he shut up his critics. Everyone kept talking about the "perfect" stage for Jonas meanwhile, Pogaçar just tries to win them all.
Visma has pretty much stated that "he can have a bad day" or "you saw what happened to Primos, anything can happen." They were essentially banking on him cracking or crashing. Long climbs, this. High altitude, that. He can't handle the heat, etc etc etc. You don't think Tadej wanted to twist the knife on them? They sought out to destroy him but it didn't work.
This is a team sport and when you look at how they dismantled him when he had a weak team in the last few years, Tadej wanted payback. People act like Jonas just beat him up by himself. Jumbo was stacked with a fully powered Wout, Primos, Jonas and Sepp. They tactically dismantled him as they knew he came into last year's Tour unprepared and he was frequently isolated. Visma likes to dish out punishment with their tactics but they appear to be sore losers.

@@LadyBird-n2tagreed. I love how everyone has this narrative that Jonas is some nice guy while Tadej is a big bad wolf. Jonas was very arrogant after the first few stages implying that Tadej should be further ahead and predicting he would crack as usual when the real mountains began. Well, that didn't happen and the famous tactics of Visma failed to the point that they threw a hail marry with Matteo in today's stage.
Sometimes, arrogance is rewarded with a firm ass whipping & Visma received this today. Instead of having confidence in their own abilities, their game plane was waiting for the other guy to crack? They come off as front runners and now Jonas knows what it's like to play from behind. Tadej didn't appear to be as sore a loser the last two years.
Visma will have their hands full next year because Remco is coming too. Hopefully, they can improve their team to properly support him deep into a 3 week Gran Tour.

If it were any other team rider, I think we’d have seen a different winner at today’s stage. I can’t see why you would hand a stage win to your biggest rival team just like that. I like Jorgenson, and if he were on any team other than LAB, he might have been given the win.
Let’s not forget that Remco was also injured-broken collarbones and shoulder blade-and he’s still racing at a top level. Yet, no one seems to mention that. It didn't get any mention today in the studio but it should. Jonas was on the rollers just 10 days after his crash, and Remco was on them 6 days after his crash. Where was the etiquette when Pog was injured last year and Jonas pounced to extend his lead to over 7 minutes? And where was the etiquette when, during the last TT, the Visma's SD shouted on the radio, “Jonas, you’re the best rider in the world, go show the world who’s king”-I’m paraphrasing, of course. No one was bringing up etiquette then.
Last year I’ve never mentioned Pog’s injury because if he was fit enough to participate in the Tour, he was good enough to handle Jonas’s attacks. It’s racing, and karma has a way of coming around if you have thin skin.

Something I don't understand is this idea that Pogi should not try to win, and let other riders win stages. From the perspective of the other riders, what does a win mean if you know you didn't earn it? If you know it was given to you by another rider who could have won if he'd have tried, then the win is not really a win. The idea of that is ridiculous and completely antithetical to a champion's mentality.

Merckx and Hinualt were killers nicknamed the Canibal and the Badger! What’s wrong with cycling today is there are no “Call Signs”!
I do respectfully disagree with JB about the fact Tadje gets pleasure crushing opponents. I believe he relishing in the victory alone - there is a difference. I do think a certain rider from Texas who did want to crush and embarrass opponents and got strength through this - this isn’t my opinion but based on testimony of prior teammates I’ve watched online.
