@@Fobber1980 Jonas’ injuries were more severe, but a broken wrist means a person
can’t train properly. Well, a collapsed lung is bad, but how long does it keep one off their bike, and how long does it to take to get back to full training. A broken wrist is less severe, but maybe the impact on training is worse, right? I don’t know. At the end of the day, compromised training - not severity of the actual injury - meant both were missing the margins necessary for competing. The margins at the top of any sport are marginal, and Tadej was clearly not in good enough shape last year. This year, Jonas wasn’t at his best, right?

Jonas is still a bad ass. Who knows if he'll ever win another Tour. He has already accomplished so much for his age and time in the sport. He could retire tomorrow and still be a legend. I HOPE that doesn't happen. I HOPE he takes this experience as motivation to win again--as Tadej did after losing the past two Tours--and doubles down on his training and preparation and comes back next year in good health and good form and gives Tadej (and any new up and comers) a run for their money.

Jonas is the real story of this years Tour de France. Most riders train their entire season around this race to try and win just ONE stage of Le Tour. Jonas had 6 weeks prep off the back off horrendous life threatening injuries, so lets put that into context. Not just with what he has done physically so far in this Tour, but the mental resilience to over come what he did to just be here, and then to podium at this years race, Absolutely phenomenal. In my opinion, sometimes the second place finishers can indeed out shone the winner in some ways. Case in point.

I'm Canadian and of course am cheering for Derek Gee. He's in 8th place with 2 stages to go. As a fan I'm so concerned he may have a bad day, fall or become ill and drop out of the top 10 which I think is a good accomplishment. My point is Jonas is in 2nd. If Tadej has any of these things happen then Jonas wins. It's not over till Sunday afternoon.

Jonas is amazingly good shape thinking what happened in Basque. Tadej is obviously better shape than ever before, so it's a bit of undone situation for rivals to beat him.

The most important stage of the tour was 11. A day or two before his long noncompeting recovery from severe injuries predictably and inevitably caught up with him, Jonas at maybe 2/3 his optimum condition was dropped for distance, caught Pogacar, and beat him in a sprint for the win. When both riders are healthy, Jonas drops Tadej left and right and "Pogi", except for one time on stage 11 in Vingegaard's first tour in 2021, has never caught Jonas after being dropped.
