I’m a sculptor so visual stimulus is the key for me. Something needs fixing and I’m handed the manual then 10 minutes later I want to pour petrol on the manual and burn the house down while I go to the pub to wait it out! A dramatic metaphor but you get the point. But show me how to fix and it’s there forever, it’s just the way I learn. I’m still working on my simple Autumn Leaves solo using Bb and GBlues scales and I decided to copy what you play at the end of that lesson and then deconstruct it. It’s just how my head works. I loved the Green Dolphin Street lesson on how to construct a solo improvising. Way away from this level but just wanted to say, the way you deconstruct this stuff using the different scales is fascinating and a wonderful insight into the complexity of jazz explained in such an accessible and elegantly simple method without diminishing the complexity. I just enjoy watching it and especially your improvised lines at the end. If you were playing down at my local pub it would add so much enjoyment to burning down the house with using the ‘how to fix it’ manual! Haha! You’re a terrific piano player and wonderful teacher.

Hi Tony, thanks for the great video. Nice licks-I'll be working on those. Incorporating ii-v's over the D/C and Db/C chords in the A section creates some nice harmonic motion. Also, I've seen other videos treating D/C and Db/C as lydian chords. So many approaches to explore!

Had to come and like just about my favorite YTer! 3 chords and the truth is if those chords are E -F -F# You got the fives for all the 12 keys!

Do you think you could do the intro to “the ghetto walk new mix” by miles Davis? Or it’s also called “ghetto walkin” by miles Davis or “friends” by mac miller
I would love to learn and perfect it if there’s a tutorial you could do

Hi Tony I did study this tune to listen to 35 different versions, what I remember is that with the ending I liked especially the Chick Corea Octatonization of the II-V's and also the Tonic being changed to IIIrd step bar 31 so that the first bar gets the Tonic, or maybe the bII (or maybe IIm711?, version of Trio version Mark Levin) so instead of (mirrored to Eb) I like G713b9 C713b19 F713b9 Bb713b9 > bar I Ebmaj I will study this lesson of yours there are many interesting ways you are mentioning, the more possibilitie's we know the better it is...

and Tony, what about the possible Coltrane change on bar 9 of the A section? over 4 bars?

I still get in a muddle about using diminished scales starting with half step against starting with whole step. I'm sure others do. Tutorial please !
