Most Hollywood Studios and casting directors really have no standards. It’s like.” oh she’s attractive and she had one good movie?” “ then let’s hire her for this role.” no standards.
It's just name recognition, dude. If the actor is recognizable by the general public then the studio knows that casting that actor will be enough to sell tickets to a certain amount of people. Most of these movies are for people that will just go see the latest Rock/Kevin Hart/Jack Black movie just because they know and like that actor. I agree with this video but I will say Jack Black definitely wasn't your typical "Jack Black" Character in Jumanji, and I think he played the part of a teenage girl in a middle aged man's body rather well.
yeah, + he did few serious roles where he actually nailed it. So, I'd say of these 4 horsemen, Jack Black is by far the better and more accomplished one, with more range. The rest have literally 0 range.
I also think his performance in Peter Jackson's "King Kong" is really underappreciated as well. He actually gives a really good dramatic performance in that one, and it's probably some of his best work.
@@NexusKin glad someone recognizes his acting in King Kong. He wasn't funny there. He was simply... charismatic? Idk if that's the word. He played the character (very well) of someone who has a vision who will do anything to get there even with his given resources (not a rich guy) and situation (lied to people to get things moving). It's his finest work for me. I think he needs to do more roles like that.
The weird accident I always admired ironically about Gadot’s “Wonder Woman (2017)” was because of her lack of emotional range, she actually played the “fish out of water” role amicably throughout learning the horrors of WWI and her naïveté felt genuine, but I know that’s because of a lack of talent rather than directional intent from Gal’s perspective.
I'm about to state an unpopular opinion but I'm doing it anyway LOL. Keanu Reeves is a terrible actor, always was. Truth. It's only when he has an actual vested interest in the property he's playing in. Case in point: Bowser from the Mario movie. Completely owns that voice role. If we want an actor who doesn't act or change to save his life, look at Chris Pratt.
(SPOILER WARNING FOR PSYCHONAUTS 2) Not film acting, but he was amazing in Psychonauts 2 when he voiced Helmut Fullbear's consciousness. Then again, perhaps I'm mixing it with Elijah Wood's acting when he voiced the same character in Nick Johnsmith's body.
2:38 It's funny calling out the Stoic Beauty stereotype, because apparently Chinese actresses are slaves to it. Their ideal is the Cold Beauty, and comedy is the death of that image. Apparently, Gong Li turned down a role in a Stephen Chow movie (maker of Kung Fu Hustle and Shaolin Soccer), because it would ruin her cool beauty image, so an older actress got the role, allowed to stretch her acting chops, and revitalized her career. This stoic ideal for acting, that comedy is somehow the death of actual acting ability, seems to infest the mindset of Awards Season.

I was literally talking about this issue with my brothers yesterday. The amount of type cast actors and if we’re being realistic here, celebrities who read scripts is absurd. I just watched Nosferatu and that movie is one of the best things I’ve seen in so long since it has actual acting in it, the characters were all the characters to me and not a celebrity wearing clothes of a different time. (The only one who might have come short here was Willem Dafoe, but he still did well). The people above are 4 great examples, but people like Jason Bateman, Timothee Chalamet, Jason Sudeikis, Denzel Washington, Samuel L Jackson, James Spader, Ryan Renalds and so many others (I’m going to include Cilian Murphy in this too). Every time I see a movie with them they’re playing the same exact character and it always throws me out of the immersion of the movie. In Gladiator 2 I didn’t see the main villain as Macrinus, I only saw Denzel Washingtonius. The man was playing himself but with Roman Garb on. That’s not acting, that’s just reading the script. I’m sure that at least some of the people on that list can act, but by god, 9/10 times they just play themselves. It’s a horrible phenomena in film today. A sort of circular logic where Studios need to stuff in a famous/notable personality/celeb to make hedge their bet the movie will make money since the budget is so big. The budget is so big because they spent 40% of their budget hiring a ridiculously expensive celeb/actor. Now they need that celeb to be a famous and unchanging character in order to hedge their bet. They need to hedge their bet…. So on and so forth.
The one movie I saw how great Jack Black can be in the right role is King Kong as Carl Denham. His face and the role make a perfect match for what you need. On the other hand, Fast and furious is the exact embodiment of the apocalypse, except you replace Jack Black with Ryan Reynolds and his eternal irony-filled acting face. He may be Deadpool but speaking of horsemen, he would be the Apocalypse mutant of the group.
I don't think "overstaying their welcome" is the problem. It's the fact that they didn't grow and try new things. But Kevin Hart has though. Look up the movies Lift, The Upside, and Fatherhood.
Gal Gadot seems like she has more fun being animated during interviews than in her movies. She's either a horrible actress or the writers are writing her characters with one hand preoccupied. But let's be honest, it's both. That woman has charisma as much as The Rock has acting range.

The audience's standards are what sets the bar; the studios will just keep making slop as long as slop continues to sell tickets.
They don't even care if they're attractive. Look at how many films Zendaya has starred in.

But he is a sweetheart and people love him, so turning into an action star that basically just doesn't require much acting range should surprise no one.
