    This is a follow-up to my "Cutting Without Registration Marks" video, which just passed 10,000 views, today. Woohoo!
    All of these machines have tolerances, when cutting. For those of you with machines which aren't as accurate, so your cuts are good, but not quite right... this video is for you. Place your print and cut projects more accurately, for your machine, and improve your cut quality.
    I know that I said it, a couple of times, in the video but....
    THANK YOU!!! All of you have made this an enjoyable experience. Just passed 1,000 subscribers, 10,000 views on a single video, and over 40,000 hours of watch time!!! That is crazy to me. I started doing these, to share my technique for cutting stickers, and this is where it has gone. To many more videos... Thank you!!!

    I've had issues with the alignment even with these borders. After a day of testing, I found that my paper is slightly taller than 11 inches 😅 so that's another thing to look out for! I made the tape borders for all 4 edges and just have to average out the overhang between the top and bottom.
    (just wanted to share here incase anyone runs into the same problem)
    I also want to add that these are great videos!! super straightforward with being new to cutting machines! Thanks a bunch :D

      @beanables thanks for the compliment and info. I had a similar issue awhile back. I was buying 12"×12" vinyl, and it was actually 11.75"x12.25". It made a mess of things for awhile.

      Sounds great. I hope that it helps dial in the accuracy of your cuts. I honestly think that these inaccuracies in the machines, is why people get bad cuts, even when the registration marks are correctly read.
      Let me know how it works out for you. I am genuinely curious how it goes, and if you see improvements.
      Also, I saw that you sent a donation. I really appreciate it!

    I watched your 1st video & it was not successful with my machine. I think I know why.
    Second try…
    1st, I turned off the machine & moved the carriage to the right twice returning it to the left origin.
    2nd, I went into setting & checked cut to the edge of mat.
    3rd, I created the vertical & horizontal lines and choose 0.0 for x & y by typing it in.
    4th, I inserted a mat making sure it was inserted straight and glued a mat guide on the cameo kissing the mat on the left side of the mat. I used a small piece of metal I had.
    5th, taped the x&y on the mat & sent to cut. It works perfectly.
    I’m not sure if any one step was the fix for my cameo. I think it was a combination of all the possible items I could think that could affect the method working on my cameo. I have a cameo2 & a cameo4. I performed this on the trusty C2. I despise the C4 it functions as an extra machine. Thanks for your video.

      You're welcome. Hopefully this can help make your cut position more accurate.
      The machines have their limitations though, due to the style of stepper motor used, which does result in an occasional misalignment issue with the cuts. It gets me good results more often than not, and I get to use the entire sheet... unlike with using registration marks. =)

    Can't wait to try with the tape. I saw your first video and just tried it today, but like everyone else, I have a lot of white space on the left side of my stickers. I'm thinking of also taping a laminated paper on the left side of the machine to help line up the mat.

    • @Richard97402
      @Richard97402  ปีที่แล้ว

      As long as it's being loaded consistently the accuracy should be there. (Will never be perfect, due to the hardware and tolerances) I have a 3D printed guide, that goes in the hole on the left side, but honestly, I stopped using it. I just use the notch, at the right side of the mat, to load my mat. There is just enough of an edge/lip to catch the side of the mat. Then I know that it is in the same place each time, as well as going in straight. (since the grooves on the machine are perpendicular to the machine)
      I hope that the little tricks, and your idea for lining up your mat, help you get the results that you are after.

    I was hoping this would work, but no matter what I click or try, it refuses to go bold for the cut lines. I have constrain off, I have tried with and without cut to edge of mat. Nada works. It ignores it all. ETA: I went in, measured how far it was showing off by getting it to cut the edge of what it'd allow as a cut edge, and then did several test cuts to work out where it's cutting. I was able to see that for mine, it likes measuring off the A4 mark, and needs to be about that same distance above the top line on the mat as well. :)

    Amazing tip! Thank you very much!! What if my printer catches the paper a bit lopsided and the image doesn't get accurate, placed in the sheet? It won't work to cut without registration marks, right?

    • @Richard97402
      @Richard97402  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Yeah, if the print gets messed up, it won't match what is on screen, so it will fail (with and without registration marks)
      Depending on how far into the print it has an issue, part of it may cut correctly, as where it is probably just garbage with registration marks.

    Hi there! Many-many thanks for your guide! I have a question: why do I see "Show cut border"-s red line inside the actual sheet? Like 2-3 milimeters inside, as an edge/frame inside the whole cutting mat space. Do you have an idea? And also print beeld inside that red frame with grey (that should be okay). Thank you for your reply in advance! :)

    • @barthdesigns89
      @barthdesigns89 ปีที่แล้ว

      Found it in the meantime (it's in the settings of the software) But still, I do not manage to get it rigth, cuts are off by about 2 milimeters. I believe it is the printer. I use a laser printer and for some reason 100% scale printing does not result in the same measurements as I see in the Software (and also in printed PDF-s).
      Do you have any idea how to print with keeping the ratios 100%?

    • @Richard97402
      @Richard97402  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@juliabarth4736 interesting. The print should match what is shown. I wonder if there is a setting somewhere, to make that more accurate. Even with registration marks, if it is printing differently than on the screen the registration marks would be inaccurate as well. 😔
      Hopefully you can find an easy solution.

    • @barthdesigns89
      @barthdesigns89 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@Richard97402 Thanks for the reply! What is strange: with registration marks it's fine. I believe it is because the software recognises the scale - based on the sizes and distances between the reg marks.
      Also I've realised that even if the print is 100% the same as on screen, there could be slight movements while printing (how paper moves inside the printer) and also placing it on the mat (Even with the superb help you've showed and I've did as well) and also mat placement (even with similar 3d printed help). So I believe for small parts (like 4cmx4cm stickers) it would not be a good option :(

    Registration marks ar the biggest problem in Cameo 4! I/m printing on glossy paper and plotter is blind to the registration marks. I put Schotch matt tape on them and it only reads first square. Then it goes to the next one and IT IS WAY TOO FAST and EVERY time it miss it and registration fails. EVERY SINGLE TIME. Feed rate is just way to fast and is it keeps missing the marks. What a BS. I tried more matt tapes, more light, less light, what not... Failing all the time. Is there an option to slow down scanning speed?

      I'm not sure on that one. I have only used the registration marks like 5 times total. I got "registration failed" once, and just did it manually. The cut was quite good. Just extra time and effort, with the registration marks.

    • @Richard97402
      @Richard97402  11 หลายเดือนก่อน

      It could be, potentially. The software is giving coordinates, for where to cut, on the mat. It should be accurate (within the small acceptable tolerance) just as if it was cutting vinyl or cardstock. The Cameo doesn't know if there is an image there or not. It just knows where it's been told to cut.
      I don't mess with anything with the print size, or the scale. Some people click things like "fit to page" which defeats the entire purpose of choosing the size of your images in the software.
      Other than that it should potentially work on any cutter.

      The position on the screen should match reality.
      If you're doing something like vinyl or cardstock do the positions match? For example, if you place a square on the mat, and send it, is the square in the correct spot, or is that inaccurate too?

      I'm not sure what is involved with it going bonkers. Lol
      I'm confused as to why it is giving you trouble though. Even if the cut isn't super accurate, it should be sending what is on your screen. "Bonkers" makes it sound like it is very different from what you are sending to the Cameo, which doesn't make any sense to me. Whether cutting vinyl, paper, cardstock, sticker paper, or anything else.... what is on the screen, with "cut" or "cut edge" selected should be sent. This should just help hone in the accuracy of the cut. I'm definitely confused, and very curious as to what it is doing. =(

    Question ... because this didn't quite work for me either. This video helps find the 0 0 for the cut lines, but don't we have to account for the gap of material that is outside of the cut lines? I lined up my paper exactly on the new guides we just created and mine also had more white on the left like a lot of others here.
    Update: I rewatched your video a couple of times and realized that your setup allows you to cut all the way to the very edge where mine didn't. Then I watched another video that showed me how to change my settings to cut edge to edge. So after recutting the painters tape, I tried it out again. The left and right are better but the up and down is off. I tried it out a couple of times and from what I can tell, it just doesn't cut in the same place every time. I really just don't know.

    • @Richard97402

      Not if you load that mat the same way. I place the right side of the mat against the guide, and the left side on the line that is designed to show where to put the mat. If the mat is loaded in the same place, and you know where 0,0 is, the software is just sending the data to the cutter. If you are not consistently loading the mat, then that 0,0 point would move, and not cut as accurately.

    Can this work with a cricut mat

    • @Richard97402
      @Richard97402  ปีที่แล้ว

      Realistically. However, Cricut mats are not meant to be used with the Silhouette machines. They are a different thickness which puts extra strain on the rollers of the machine. I've seen a few posts where people have had issues, which ultimately seemed to be due to the mats.
      So, it should work for determining the X/Y 0:0 point, but not sure that I would recommend it.

After I recalibrated and restarted the whole process the next day,the problem still existed. I'm pretty sure that this problem was not because of connection,since it kept occurring no matter it's connected through bluetooth or USB cable.
