Silhouette Studio Tutorial - Update/Clarification with Tracing and Colors

I apologize that I wasn't clear enough last time, and that my direction lead to a bit of confusion. While the previous technique will work, it isn't meant to be used in every situation. • @Richard97402
      @Richard97402 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @karlaliivm it's backwards of what people seem to instinctively think. Don't peel your product off of the mat. Lay the product face down, and roll/peel the mat off of the product. By doing that, I've never had anything stay on the mat. If there is a paper backing stuck on the mat, I would think that water would help. The water shouldn't hurt the adhesive, but should soften the paper. I don't know for sure, as I've never needed to do it, but that is what I would probably try if I had come across that problem.

      @@Richard97402 Thank you, after desperately searching about how to remove that, I found out that when the mat is new this usually happens. Another issue I had was it did not cut the stickers properly as showed in the silhouette studio, it spoiled my stickers by 80% very sad situation, I wonder if this happened because of no registration marks? Could you give some hint of what could have gone wrong? The cutting red lines was showing perfectly outside. I donno what I did wrong, I have the cameo 5.

  • @codenamegamma
    @codenamegamma หลายเดือนก่อน

    Another thing to look out for, this wasn't working for me. so i put in some cardstock and ran the cut, and then placed it on my laminated sticker sheet. What i noticed is that I could cut the card stock and each one the cut's would be in like 0.1mm of each other. so my 0,0 point was fine, where i was placing the paper was fine. what was not fine became obvious to me when i put the cutout cardstock on the printed sticker paper. My printer (an Epson XP-410) has gravity fed paper loading and uses 1 roller to pull in 1 sheet at a time. causing the paper to get pulled in slightly off angle. not a big deal for text or images themselves. but when you cut them the image is gonna be way off from where the plotter expects it to be. So for me without changing printers to something that has a better loading mechanism. there's no way this method is gonna work consistently. For my situation and situations like mine, the only choice is to use registration marks so the optical sensors can adjust the cut correctly. How to tell tell if this is your problem. get some card stock or just regular paper would work. line it up, and run the cut job. if when you square up the two, the cut lines are off, then your printer is the one causing the alignment issues. you can double rule out the plotter by running the cut job twice and if the cardsocks line up consistently, then your printer isn't printing square... sorry. This idea of Cutting cardstock and then overlaying it on top of your sticker paper can also be a good way to preview your cut lines before actually committing to cut the sticker sheet.

      @Richard97402 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @codenamegamma sorry that the method doesn't work for you. That is good info, and something that I hadn't thought of. Lucking I haven't had that issue with any of my printers, but I can definitely understand that being a concern.

  • @AHaensel
    @AHaensel 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

    I don't understand how you align the print with the cut. Does the grid in Silhouette Studio match the grid on the cutting mat? On my Portrait 3 it doesn't. And does your printer print at the same position each time? Mine usually shifts a couple of millimeters from copy to copy.

    • @Richard97402
      @Richard97402 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @AHaensel my printer prints what is on the page. Whatever margins, dimensions, etc, that are chosen, are shown on my prints. Then, the cutter uses a starting point and amount of movement from its stepper motors to know where it is in relation to X and Y coordinates. If I know where that starting point is, which should be at 0 X and 0 Y, then placing my paper there gets the same results each time that i do it. If your printer and/or cutter aren't working correctly, and therefore aren't consistent, then this unfortunately, likely won't work for you.

    • @AHaensel
      @AHaensel 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@Richard97402 So you place a mark on the paper and then you align that mark with some point on the mat? I didn't see that in the video, but that's actually a good idea.

    • @Richard97402
      @Richard97402 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @AHaensel I did a follow up video, where I placed tape on the edges of the mat, and cut the x and y axis, using Silhouette Studio, to show exactly where my 0:0 point is. Mostly helpful for people using 3rd party mats, where they aren't intended to be exact with Silhouette. Helpful if your machine isn't perfect though. If you are able to accomplish a similar calibration, using your mark method, then that could be great to.

It ignores it all. ETA: I went in, measured how far it was showing off by getting it to cut the edge of what it'd allow as a cut edge, and then did several test cuts to work out where it's cutting. I was able to see that for mine, it likes measuring off the A4 mark, and needs to be about that same distance above the top line on the mat as well. :)

      Sad. Hopefully this works for you, and leads to less frustration. Since making this video, I do some projects with registration marks, and some without. This still works well for me, but pros and cons depending on the job, the time restraints, etc. Plus anything being cut on my other machines can't benefit from this technique. Have you tried doing manual registration on your Silhouette? You can move the machine yourself, and "show" the Cameo where the registration marks are. That's come in handy, for me, a couple of times.

      Thank you. I'm excited to be back. I'll need to come up with some new content ideas, but am looking forward to making more videos again. Happy to hear that I've been able to help.

    I’ve watched this video now three or four times and I still I am unable to locate how to turn off registration marks.

      They're in your page setup screen. It can be accessed by the top icon, on the right side of the screen. It is where you change things like your media size, so a very important tab. On the page setup, there is a tab, which shows a sheet of paper with registration marks on it. When you click on that it gives you your registration mark settings. The first option is to turn them on or off. If they're on, the settings can be modified. If they're off, every other option gets grayed out. Hopefully that helps.

      Thank you so much. That is a huge compliment. I don't feel like my videos are to that point yet, but I have a lot of knowledge and am happy to share it with others. I'm glad that you enjoyed it, I appreciate the compliment, and wish you the best as well.

    You're a literal godsend. I've been having so many issues attempting to laminate with stupid registration marks. I've ruined several otherwise great stickers and lost a lot of materials. Thank you so much for your tutorial!

    Just got my Cameo 4 today, the secret compartment holds my extra autoblade nicely. Thanks!

      You're very welcome. I keep my three adapters in there, plus my blade tool, but it is a good fit for that as well. 👍

    I have both cameo and potrait. Will this work on the potrait?

      I can't say for sure, as I haven't used the Portrait.... but realistically, it should. There is still a 0,0 point, where it thinks the corner of your mat/material should be. If it is loaded consistently in the same location, then it should be able to get similar results.

    What is the brand of your laminator.?

    • @Richard97402
      @Richard97402 8 หลายเดือนก่อน

      It was just the cheapest that I could find, on Amazon, at the time. I went to industrial style rolls of laminate, since this video though, so I don't use the laminator for stickers anymore.

    Hello, thanks you very much! Just bought a brand new cameo 4...and I felt disappointed because of the (restricted) supported files on the free version of silhouette studio. I am now thinking I made the wrong choice....maybe cricut was the way

      You're welcome. You couldn't pay me to go to Cricut. Their business practices, their software, and their hardware are inferior to basically everyone else. I would quit, entirely, before going to Cricut. I hope that you're able to become happy with your purchase.
