  • In this video I am going over all of the tricks that I use (or at least that I could think of) for tracing in Silhouette Studio.
I cover the standard trace, "Trace by Color", cutting by fill color, using "Compound Paths" to modify your trace, using the Image Effects Tab for editing images to simplify tracing, inverting Images with black backgrounds, using masking to get a "trace by color" effect without needing a paid version of the software, and a bonus of how I use the "Divide" tool on the Modify Tab to add color(s) that weren't part of the original image.

You're welcome. I'm still around. Just been incredibly busy, recently. Recorded one of the two laser videos that I plan to share, but haven't had time to do the edit, and post it. Things SHOULD settle down after next weekend.
      Thanks for watching.

FYI, I have the Designer Edition and I have the dropper to trace by colour. I thought I knew a lot about Silhouette Studio but you've shown me some useful new stuff....thanks! I look forward to more amazing content!

Great. I thought that Designer got the features, but I bought Business on day 2 of my Silhouette journey, so wasn't positive. Glad that my videos are providing you with new info that can help. I am hoping to make a couple more videos soon... just been REALLY busy, recently. Thanks for watching and for the feedback.

@@Richard97402 hi Richard, I’m building a small home base decal & sticker business. Knowing what you know now which silhouette studio editing level would you buy?

    • @Richard97402

@@Kewlstickers I have the Business Edition, and have had it since day 1 or 2, of owning my Cameo. I went back, and compared what is offered in each version, and with how I use the software, I can't picture using anything other than Business. Any upgrade will greatly increase what you can do, and is especially important for anyone wanting to buy designs, as you can open SVG files. Especially, while the software is 50% off, I would upgrade, if I was doing it again.

New SUB HERE! Hi Richard im having a really hard time figuring out what the issue is either my Cameo or printer. I Recently upgrade to the Cameo 4 and I have the Business Lic. I just upgraded both my printer laser and inkjet both HP so everything is new. Ok so I go to a print and cut job that I created I wanted to doo some gold foiling using my MINC MINI so I designed some flourishes and created a offset around them set all the setting in Studio correctly Clear sticker paper ect. so I print that job using the Laser printer and then load align everything registration starts and then the cameo gets to cutting and all the cutting is way off . I tried 9 times already with the same result. now im trying to figure if its the cameo the printer. so I tried printing the design using the inject same cut lines are way off. what does it sound like to you. ps I calibrated the cameo last week .

Hello, thanks you very much! Just bought a brand new cameo 4...and I felt disappointed because of the (restricted) supported files on the free version of silhouette studio. I am now thinking I made the wrong choice....maybe cricut was the way

      You're welcome.
You couldn't pay me to go to Cricut. Their business practices, their software, and their hardware are inferior to basically everyone else. I would quit, entirely, before going to Cricut.
I hope that you're able to become happy with your purchase.

    Interested in laser engraving

I haven't done much laser engraving, recently. I need to do some projects. I use Silhouette Studio for a lot of my design work, and then export, to put in the laser software. I've got some wood laying around. I may need to make something new.
