  • As the lunar new year is approaching, there’s no better time to make these delicious spring onion pancakes. They’re no doubt one of the most loved Asian street foods. Even if we can’t travel physically right now, there’s no border for our taste buds. Are you ready for the culinary journey? I know I am :)) x

Homemade chilli paste - • How to make the best c...
Spring onion pancakes using 1 carb flatbread recipe: • Spring onion pancakes ...
    INGREDIENTS
    ----------------------
    Dry ingredients:
200g ground almonds (or 100g coconut flour)
4 tbsp psyllium husk powder (or 4 tbsp ground flaxseed)
    1 tsp baking powder
    1 tbsp Xanthan Gum
    1/2 tsp “instant yeast” (optional)
    Salt to season
    Liquid:
10-12 tbsp hot water (more if you use coconut flour)
    Toasted sesame oil
    Ground white pepper
    Toasted Sesames
    A bunch of spring onions
    Coriander to garnish
    Easy Dipping Sauce:
    Toasted sesame oil
    A dash of rice vinegar
    Soy sauce
Chopped coriander or fresh chilli or ginger
    DIRECTIONS
    ---------------------
    1. Add all dry ingredients in a mixing bowl and mix well.
    2. Add 6 tbsp of the water to the dry ingredients and mix gently with a folding action to create dough lumps that are “semi cooked”. Then add in more hot water gradually as you mix/knead the dough till it reaches a supple and smooth texture. Cover the dough with a towel and leave to rest for 15 mins.
    3. Chop the spring onions finely.
    4. Divide the rested dough into four equal portions. Roll out each portion into a “long oval shape”. Spread a layer of toasted sesame oil, chopped spring onions, white pepper and some salt.
    5. Roll the dough lengthways from the bottom toward the top edge. Pinch the edges together (dab a little bit of water if need to). Then take the right edge of the roll and roll it inwards till it forms a swirl. Press it down with a rolling pin (or your hand) to flatten it slightly. Brush the top of the dough with toasted sesame oil and sprinkle some sesame seeds.
    6. Pan fry the pancake dough with medium/low heat. Press them down gently with a spatula as you fry them till golden brown on both sides.
Enjoy them as they are or with my easy dipping sauce and chilli paste! ( Recipe for chilli paste • How to make the best c... )

Hi Heavenly! After seeing this video 2 years ago .. I decided to take the challenge. I made them exactly the way you showed on your video. My husband and I were very pleased with the results. They came out excellent. We made 4 and only had 2 of them freshly made. Put 2 in the fridge.. but next time we will eat all of them fresh. Another keeper to my vegan recipes. Can’t wait for your cookbook!

Absolutely delicious! I made this using 5T of psyllium husk since I didn’t have xanthan gum and I omitted the yeast. I also flattened in my hand and closed it like you would a pot sticker. When in the pan I flattened a little more. Great recipe!

I was very impatient, so I put parchment paper (big piece to cover top and bottom of press)on my tortilla press, a small bunch of scallions, then dough ball, then smashed it, added a few more scallions, then smashed again, brushes with toasted sesame oil and salt, then fried.....OMG! Definitely have to order some white pepper... 😢 I didn’t have any. Super fast, so tasty. Many thanks, Fan

    • @seshadrisrinath
      @seshadrisrinath 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

@@HeavenlyFan There's 2 kinds that grow wild, they're actually considered a weed. The Oct through feb variety is a round stalk which is juicy but not super strong tasting. There's Jan-april may which is Triangular body and filled with a gel and it fruits into perl top with tiny onion bulbs. Those pearls are stronger tasting. In fact a week ago I harvested a mix of both. They're much smaller than commercial spring onions and I also suspect it grows all over North america just at different times. I am in SC and my season is fall winter for 1 winter spring for the other.

Love your channel ❤ I wish you could make more videos with breakfast and dinner ideas or full day of eating. Now, personally I am not vegan (I've been for 2 years in the past) but sometimes I am just fed up with the all the meat and cheese. Looking at other youtubers, there is just too much cheese and cream cheese involved which I completely avoid. Would love to see some recipes with lots of veggies that I can part myself with a little piece of meat or egg for my protein. Keto is all right but at the end of the day calories still matter to me, most of the "keto foods" are really high in calories so I personally think that low carb nutrient dense foods instead of high calorie foods would be much better to consume when trying to lose weight, even on keto 🙂 just a thought

Since i am on a no grains and no lentils diet to reduce my sugsr levels and normalise my fatty liver i am sticking to other two flours. I will sure will try this pan cake. Whaddyaknow? I have all the ingredients, but'll pass on the yeast. TY! 🤗 However I'll make mine flatter. I did before and prefer that type. 😋

New subscriber. Thinking of trying to convert into vegan keto. Having a hard time losing weight 😫 I've never had onion pancake but Iove the korean kimchi pancake. Thank for sharing.

I couldn’t wait to try it. In a few months, it will be the season of spring onions in France 😊 Can I use leeks as substitute ? Thanks for sharing us your recipes.
