The thing about BTS that you haven't seen yet is that they do it all. IMHO the reason BTS is the phenom they are is because, once you dive deeper, you realize they have no genre. It's just all excellence in whatever they choose to do. To explore their range, check out UGH, Am I Wrong, Black Swan, and On, Kinetic Manifesto. To understand that their talent isn't just smoke and mirrors, check out BTS Festa 2021 which is a medley of B sides performed live. Their live performance of Run BTS in Busan is insane.

'Mic drop' and 'Dynamite' still fail to show BTS's potential. If you want to see a more artistic side of their work you have to see 'Black Swan'. The song itself, mv, the message is pure art.
    I also recommend:
    'ON' (Kinetic Manifesto Film),
'Outro:Tear' (rapline song - amazing and heartbreaking),
    'Interlude: Shadow' (Suga from BTS),
'Fake love' (again pure perfection from visuals in MV to message of the song💔),
'Run BTS' (+ Busan concert live version) and 'Silver Spoon' - these two have a Mic drop vibe,
    'My Universe' (with Coldplay),
'The truth untold' (vocal line of BTS) ,
'Deachwita' - Agust D (Suga solo rap song),
'Arson', 'More' and 'Pandora's Box' (Jhope solo rap songs),
    'Moonchild' (RM solo),
    'Lie' (Jimin solo),
    'Singularity' (V solo),
    'My time' (Jungkook solo),
    'Epiphany' (Jin solo)
(there is more and more and it gets better and better with each song🥺)
and to better understand the BTS phenomenon, you can watch the Guide of BTS by Taylor th-cam.com/video/huV_yIdxZPY/w-d-xo.html if u want 💜

They don't fail to show their potential they just portray a different emotion, a different aspect of them... That doesn't mean these are meaningless songs... There's a reason mic drop is a diss track and there's a reason dynamite is a happy disco song which released in midst of pandemic... They fulfilled their job.... It doesn't need to have 10 layer deep meaning rather one direct meaning which came across easily coz that's what their purpose was.... To be crystal clear to the haters via mic drop and to provide instant energy and hope to the people suffering from pandemic through dynamite

    • @naatusska4545
      @naatusska4545 ปีที่แล้ว +1

@@smrutishikharath3025Where did I say they are meaningless? I love Dynamite and nothing cheered me up in the pandemic like this song and Mic Drop is one of my favorites. I also don't think every song has to have a million layers and meanings. I just meant that if someone who is just getting to know BTS for the first time and finds these cheerful or hater songs assumes that all their music is like that and it's not true. That's why I left some of my recommendations, among which I mentioned, for example, Run BTS which is clearly very similar to Mic drop style..🙃 I don't know why you're responding on my comment if you didn't even understand what I wrote.

New subscriber here. I’m 60 yo and never liked Pop music. I was into blues rock and heavy metal. Then I happened to see a BTS music video and was struck by the choreography. I fell down the BTS rabbit hole and have been Army since 2018. I love the grittiness of the rap line (and they’re more talented rappers and lyricists than most American rappers) and their energy. Most of all, I love their positive message of fighting hate, negativity, Korean social norms, injustice, and so much more. Please dig deeper into BTS; you won’t regret it. Army will guide you. Try On: Kinetic Manifesto Film next.

their discography as BTS is insane. It is sometimes hard to believe that songs like Mic drop, Butter, Blood sweat and tears, UGH, Blue and Grey, Dis-ease, Black swan come from the same group. It is extremely rare to have a group who does so well in so many genres.
Nowadays, the members are starting to release their solo work as official albums with promo etc(before they were mixtapes) and it is so satisfying how different it is from each other.
JHope´ s Jack in the box was declared no.9 on Rolling Stone´s mag 100 best albums of 2022, and RM just last week released Indigo, which isso rich lyrically and very much the artistic niche thing you were talking about. Then there is Jin who called up their friend Chris Martin from Coldplay and they made a gorgeous soft guitar ballad called Astronaut.
People sometimes mock BTS ARMY for mostly listening to only BTS, but can you blame them? when you have so much variety to choose from...and this year the rate they have been putting out new music is actually insane. We have had new material literally every month. No time to get bored.

Their solo work is usually the kind of music that you mentioned, more acoustic. But the lyrics is definitely an important part of their songs both in BTS and their solo albums. The latest one to release an album is the leader RM, called 'Indigo' (released on 2nd Dec). The man is lyrical master and i highly recommend you to check out the mv of 'wildflower' from the same.
For BTS as a whole, i recommend 'black swan', 'spring day' and 'fake love'.

🖼️ Okay 👍🏻 the art analogy is a good one. Let’s flesh it out. You walk into a room & see a painting but there’s more to your appreciation of that art as a painting. When you know BTS as the artist, you may know the struggle too, you loved it or witnessed it. Maybe you watched them paint it or saw 10 versions that came before it and how those first paintings led to this one. You know that a painting is more than art on a wall.
BTS is a highly entertaining source of good and empathy in our world. I’m 53 yr old female, USA, and I’ve been Army for less than a year but I can tell you that I care and respect these guys like I’ve known them all my life.
So maybe take that 🖼️ off the wall and examine the signature and methods that made it and peel it out of the frame to see the artist’s statement.
It’s refreshing to have groups singing/rapping about something other than screwing hot girls, drugs, and money. Their lyrics mean something. Their melodies do too. They don’t fit in any box that exists. They shredded that box and then politely ♻️ the box and kept right on going.
Wow, I need to chill on these long comments, lol. 💜

They are where they are because they connect with us on a personal lvl and not just that their music is amazing. Most ARMY know their back story and devour just about everything they put out and they put a lot of stuff out not just music that enabled us to know them on a lvl Ive never had with any other band. They feel like they are part of my family and while I love most of their songs there are some that I dont play very often. Some I play every day and we all have those sort of lists and and we all have different songs on that list and the list changes all the time due to everything they put out as they describe their music as fusion and it really is they take whatever genre they think fits and do it. So they are true artists and they contribute in everything, such as when shooting MVs they watch the takes and go back and do it again if they arnt happy with it. Their work ethic is unreal and so is their energy and output. They are amazing human beings each capable of having a successful solo career in music. RM's use of wordplay etc is out of this world, Suga is one of the most sought after producers, J-Hope and Jimin are amazing dancers with different styles, Jimin's voice is like nobody else Ive ever heard, Jin's vocals are silver smooth, JK is the main vocalist for a reason his voice is amazing and he has perfect pitch and does most of their adlibs and sings all the vocal guides and V has the most soulful beautiful baritone. The rappers all have their own flows and styles and are all world class. Together they make up the biggest group in the world yet they are humble, down to earth, philanthropic and also the biggest crackheads who each have different personalities to each other. They love their fans and by that I mean REALLY love their fans and are always grateful to us. They put out so much free stuff for us on soundcloud along the way not just single songs but mixed tapes etc. They always give credit where its due such as on RM's new album (his first as a soloist altho he gave us 2 free mixed tapes) every person he did a song with is credited as WITH not featured and the list of artists reads like a whos who of music both overseas and in Korea. Every song is different but the album as a whole when listened to in order tells a story of the last 10 years of his life. I was losing my love of music when they found me in 2017 (im one of the older fans btw im 69) and altho i had watched some K-pop on SBS Asia (yes im Aussie) I found while a lot of it was well produced etc it was also a little cringy especially the girl group concepts. Also most of the groups were not allowed to have very much imput into their music and were very "manufactured" so i stopped watching and then along came the boys at the 2017 AMA'a and they sang DNA on a tiny stage that really wasnt big enuf to do the choreo justice and they slayed so much that people in the US music industry accused them of lip synching cos they couldnt understand how a group could sing and dance like that at the same time and while the boys do use backing tracks they dont lip synch the parts where they arnt singing unlike a lot of other artists including some Idols which I have seen doing it on award shows. I wanted to see more and somebody pointed me to YT (being old I had never used it rofl) and down the rabbit hole I went and Ive never looked back. I grew up in the era of the beatles, rolling stones, Queen etc etc but while I loved some of the music these groups produced I never had the connection I have with these guys to the point that I own all the albums, some of the merch and Im a member of the official fanclub. My one wish in life is to see them in concert as covid stopped that so hoping for it in the future. Sorry for the long ramble im gunna stop now altho I really havnt covered everything I wanted to say ..... Last thing once you have watched them a bit more I would recommend watching MMA 2018 performance and then MMA 2019 these are a Korean end of year award show sort like our ARIAs and they will blow your mind will just say and their company pay for the sets and artists/dancers used for this.

imo the thing abt BTS success is that they're not just about music at all. i think that their lyrics, their melodies and their art in general combines with their awesome personalities and the message the group is offering to the world.
For example, for me the thing that stayed in my brain the most was this "f the educational system" message they had during their early days, maybe for some people was "i am precious, i need to love myself for what i am" or "there's no need to run, enjoy life".
It all combined with how they became what they are now, literally saving their company from bankruptcy (that's what the CEO said himself), them all sharing one single bedroom, without taking account of all the censorship or racism they've been going through even atp of their careers.
hope i explained myself well enough bc English is not my first language, but the thing is that we can't put BTS just as a "boy band" or "seven kids who make good music" because their meaning and objectives are beyond that. its the bond they have created with their fans and with their art itself what stands out the most.

I'm 57 Australian & I discovered BTS by accident and curiosity got me to listen to more, Captions on, from there I was lost. They are fantastic musicians, they can sing, rap & dance, they often write their own lyrics and are often involved in the production. Their lyrics, often focus on personal and social commentary, touch on the themes of mental health, troubles of school-age youth and coming of age, loss, the journey towards loving oneself, and individualism. Their work also often references literature and psychological concepts and includes an alternative universe storyline.
"BTS," actually stands for the words, "Bangtan Sonyeondan," which translates to mean "Bulletproof Boy Scouts." 'Bangtan’ means to be resistant to bullets, so it means to block out stereotypes, criticisms, and expectations that aim on adolescents like bullets, to preserve the values and ideal of today’s adolescents,"
They started out as a HipHop group in 2013, (they have 3 rappers, 2 of which were from the Korean underground rap scene & 4 Vocalists) but actually cover so many genres of music in addition to HipHop, invluding Pop, EDM, Rap, RnB, Rock, Urban, Trap, Ballads... they say not everyone will like all BTS songs, but there is a BTS song for everyone.
For anyone willing to find out more I recommend taking a look at what they have to offer and suggest the following:
    Butter (All English)
    Dope
    Fire
    Danger
    DNA
    Idol
    Blood Sweat and Tears
    On Kinetic Manifesto prima
    Black Swan
    Fake Love
    Not Today
    Save Me
    Truth Untold
Spring Day (which has spent 5 consecutive years in Goan's Digital Chart's & you must watch Italian Armies explanation video on Spring Day)
    Your Eyes Tell
    Run BTS
The Cyphers if you like rap
    Then solo works:
    Jungkook - Euphoria, My Time
V - Singularity, Stigma (live version), Sweet Night (the first and only song in history to top 119 countries on the worldwide iTunes chart)
Suga's alter ego Agust D - Daewitcha, Agust D, The Last
    RM - Persona, Joke
J-Hope - Boy Meets Evil, More, Arson
    Jin - Epiphany, Abyss
    Jimin - Serendipity, Filter

This was a fun reaction and I really appreciate you open mindedness💜
Trust me, they have done pretty much everything in their 10 year career of making music and still manage to surprise us with sounds and concepts we haven't seen before from them. Since all the members (usually the three rappers- RM, Suga and J-hope) contribute to the writing, composition and production of their music you can get very different types of perspectives and musical styles. Even recently RM (the leader) released a solo album- Indigo which has 10 different tracks with a variety of genres- City pop, Folk music, RnB, Hip-hop etc. If you like all kinds of music and some really artistic people I can guarantee that BTS is the group for you.
Ultimately, I think what makes them so easy to root for is the hard work and the absolute love for music and performance these guys have (not to mention their very likeable and humble personalities) which plays a huge part in their excellence and artistry.
I initially got interested in their music and very easily fell in love with their chaotic energy and the sense of community and positivity they give off. They are the only artists I can guarantee are the same off screen as they are in front of the cameras. So I hope you listen to more of their music because believe me, you have barely touched the surface of the reason behind their fame and artistry.
If you would like to get to know more about them and their group dynamics I really recommend this video- A Guide to BTS Members: The Bangtan 7- th-cam.com/video/huV_yIdxZPY/w-d-xo.html
Ps. I love all most of their title tracks and most popular songs but the magic of BTS lies in their b-sides.
That was the end of my rant😅
    Some music recommendations-
    Black Swan
Wildflower (by RM) [Its a new song from his recent album- Indigo]

I'm 74 and found them almost three years ago. First the choreography, then the music, the diversity of their music, their message of equality, positivity, their personalities, their sense of humor, and they do not take themselves too seriously. Their show RUN BTS, In the Soop, Bon Voyage are excellent to see how they all interact. But most of all I love how humble and respectful they are towards ARMY, each other, their families, just everyone. You will find that BTS receives so much hate over the years that it is getting old. I believe it is that the haters are just jealous and cannot stand to see these men be successful. WHY? That is a question I just do not have an answer for. I just know that I am ARMY till I die. As a matter of fact, I would argue that their live vocals are even better than the studio versions. As an American, I grew tired of the vulgar lyrics that were prevalent in the music here. BTS writes lyrics that uplift and empower instead of tearing down. That’s what drew me in. As I got to know them as people, I began to think of them like my own children. They share so much of their lives with us. No one loves their fans as much as BTS does.

I think you cant really see the reason why they are so loved from the outside! First you may think they are just a boyband famous for their looks. Then you listen to their songs and realize how talented they are, how deep their lyrics are, how they are so passionate about their music and their fans. And then you begin to know their personalitys, how humble and kind they are, how open they are about their struggles, their doubts, their fears. And then you just start to love them. I think its more than their music, its the way they present themselves and give so much of themselves to encourage and help others who struggle with the same feelings. I never saw that with any other celebrity. And I find it to be extremly inspiring. And of course their music is great aswell :)
Love your reaction and hope you understand it a bit better!

Yesssss, BTS is all about extra good music. Hundreds of great songs. You can check Taylor´s guide so you can comprehend faster what is behind BTS phenomenon. I am a really happy 50 year old (baby) ARMY since 2020. I think western pop should take a look at the quality and effort tehy put in each song. They do many genres, taht is why it appeals to many audiences. And then, they are doing solo works that are mindblowing.

Thank you for giving them respect. I don’t know how to get you to actually pay attention to what I want to communicate, but I hope you actually listen. I love that you’re checking out BTS and that you’re trying to figure out why they have such a following. Their music is catchy no matter for sure no matter the genre and they do it all, but I think it was a combination of that, their story, their authenticity, lyricism, artistry, and message. PLEASE check out Taylor’s Guide to BTS Members and understand that there’s layers of meaning that as non-Koreans and symbolism that they imbed in their music videos that we just can’t get outside their culture/language but it’s still universal in its overall message. Explanation videos are essential to understanding beyond just music appreciation. Two examples are Spring Day (watch the Bulletproof Vibes explanation video) and Ugh (watch the DKDKTV explanation video). You’ll see that they actually are different than most music in general. It goes beyond what you think.

Mic drop is the kind of song you were expecting from them : hard beat, strong choreo. They always have an interesting or strong message in their songs that's why they are different from all other K-pop groups.
Also their live performance are crazy and insane they make Magic when they are live. But they also can stay still and sing beautiful mesmerizing songs with beautiful harmonies.
Hope you will keep your BTS journey. And at some point you will want to know their personality and see that they don't play a role (Bad boys, sweet...) They just are themselves simple genuine humble honest young men. That's why so many people across the World love them and can relate to them.

To explain a little bit about the background of Mic Drop, now BTS is the biggest boy band in the world. But they started with a small company that almost went bankrupt, so they have been very looked down and hated by Korean broadcasting stations and other K-pop fandom. So they have struggled from the beginning to prove themselves.
    It's a song for their haters. :)
The direction of Mic Drop's lyrics began with the idea of J-Hope, the main dancer and dance leader of BTS.
And 'Mic Drop' at the end of this music video is a performance created by BTS leader RM inspired by Barack Obama's speech. :)
If you're interested in their live performances, Just check this out.
[BANGTAN BOMB] 2017 MAMA Mic Drop. (BTS focus)
    th-cam.com/video/floMqK_yHf8/w-d-xo.html
It's not an official MAMA video broadcast on TV, but a full-cam taken by Big Hit. I recommend this because the camera work on official MAMA is so messed up.
In this performance, Mic Drop was their 4th song, so the members were exhausted and held on with their mental strength only. And, there were even three dance breaks at this time.
I can feel all of them Even if I die, I will die on stage. The energy is crazy!
And BTS Mic Drop remix Jimmy Kimmel Live is great too. :)
Oh, there is another song BTS worked on with Steve Aoki. The Truth Untold is a completely different song from Mic Drop. :)
And If you're interested in BTS' other MVs, I recommend....
    Blood sweat & tears
    FIRE
    On kinetic manifesto film
    Black Swan
    Save me→I'm fine
    Daechwita(Agust D 대취타, Suga's solo)
All of their music videos provide English subtitles. :)
Their lyrics are very deep and beautiful.
Or, I think it would be good to follow a story line.
DNA: Joy of fateful love → Fake Love: Realizing that love was a lie → IDOL, Epiphany, The Truth Untold, Answer Love Myself: To love other people completely, you should love yourself first.
These are included in Love Yourself Trilogy.
The lyrics of BTS' songs are based on their own experiences, and their albums are organic because they contain their growth narrative.
It will also be fun to listen to their albums in order and analyze them. :)
They make a wide variety of genres of music like Hip-hop, Ballad, R&B, pop, EDM, etc. I'm sure there're quite a few of their 300 songs that suit your taste. :)
    Maybe you can try this.

I know alot of people like to drag Dynamite but it doesn't have all those views for no reason, many people love it, it's a good pop song. BTS isn't where they are today because of one single song, it's because of everything they have done from their debut to now, which is step outside the box and try different things, play around with different genres and sounds and create their own.
They are excellent performers and they can adapt to any persona that is needed for the vibe of the song. With that said BTS is BTS and they do BTS and they have a particular subset of their fanbase that are not kpop fans in general but stick with them year after year because of the artists themselves and what they stand for even outside of the music.

    • @evantesseract737

Dynamite is very good at being what it is. It didn't get me into BTS though - I had to hear Save Me, and then I was curious, and then I was hooked. I think we maybe do overemphasize the distinction between the English songs and the rest of their work, but I also think if Dynamite or Butter is all you see, you're missing most of what makes them interesting.

Just discovered your channel and was so excited to see you watching and reacting to BTS Mic Drop. As you saw BTS’s Dynamite was a fun, catchy, upbeat song and choreography to cheer up the fans during Covid but didn’t even begin to show you their full talent or versatility. I always suggest that people watch the 2019 MMA performance in order to see how talented and versatile they are from RM’s solo rap in the beginning to Dionysus at the end with 3 songs and small individual performances in between. Its like watching a 37 minute BTS concert in which you almost forget it’s actually a music awards show. I constantly hear it referred to as legendary and it’s easy to see why. It’s what made me a fan for life. I think the combination of the singing, rapping and dancing in Dionysus is the best performance I have ever seen from any group ever. Even more so because they obviously were already tired from the previous songs and choreography. It shows why they are #1 in the world. They always give 150% when they perform and no one can touch them. To give credit where credit is due they are ALL multitalented young men but their leader RM has a lot to do with why are are #1. He is an incredible leader and all of the members have confirmed that and talked about how much they admire and respect him. I liked your comment about them being on a Cirque Du Soleil level but in K-pop. That’s a great comparison.

They have a lot to say just like the ingenue with a guitar. They have socio economic songs, songs on mental health, songs to encourage you to love yourself. If you think its a love song, their is likely a deeper meaning. You don't need a single guitar to have something to say.
I'm from a metal, hard core, blues fan background and part of what I loved about that music, they usually had something to say. BTS usually also have those songs. You'll find most of Army are incredibly smart because BTS' songs and videos can have such meanings to psychology, to fine art, to literature that professors have used their lyrics in their lessons.
Some songs that I personally like are, Black Swan, Louder than Bombs, Lie, We On, Rain, House of Cards, Tear, Ugh, On, Blood Sweat and Tears, Am I Wrong, Fake Love, So What, Magic Shop....so many more but those are in my Top 15

I enjoyed your reaction! Trust me... if you ever DO get around to learning their names, you will officially and completely be down the BTS rabbit hole. There's no way out of it after that happens. 🙂 And it's quite a ride, let me tell you. Their come-up story is quite different from other groups and learning about the K-Pop and even the Korean culture was so eye-opening to me and what really endeared them to me. I came to appreciate and respect them as human beings as well as artists. Nearly every song has a story behind it and when you know that story, it makes the experience even more amazing because it hits on even deeper level. You will hear it from ARMY over and over, this group is all about the lyrics. Many songs even have "explanation videos" which help those of us that are not Korean understand the complexities of the lyrics and the nuisances implied throughout their storylines. Yes, there are multiple storylines throughout all of their albums. Honestly, I have no idea where to recommend you go next. You're already kind of "in the middle", which is fine, it just really depends on what you want to see next. Many ARMYs recommend their favorite songs or very dramatic MVs because, yes, they are impressive, but if you're into the sausage making, I'd break it down a bit more and get into a "Who is BTS" type video. When I first found them, I watched 3-4 of those, and then went to the HYBE page and literally went through the entire BTS catalog in order from their first debut song "No More Dreams" all the way through to their most recent music. Of course, I wasn't reacting, so I devoured this in a matter of a few days and was totally and completely hooked. Those videos also give you a hint into the other types of content out there which help better understand how these boys got to where they are today. There is literally so much material out there about them I will probably never see it all, but it won't be for a lack of trying. 🙂 Have fun and enjoy the ride. I've subbed so I can continue to watch! Thanks again!

BTS aren't really the typical Kpop band. One of the reasons is that they write a great majority of their songs and have a huge hand in producing as well (they have writing credits in most of their songs but in particular, I would say, the rap line consisting of RM, Suga and Jhope have writing credits in, at the very least, 90% of their songs). And their discography is huge, i.e., somewhere around 350 songs if you include solo projects and free songs on Soundcloud. Concepts from literature (e.g., Hermann Hesse, Haruki Murakami) and psychology (e.g., Carl Yung) are among the various 'tools' they utilize for inspiration for their music as some of the members are avid readers (esp RM who is the leader of the group and one of the main rappers). Mic Drop was written by RM and Steve Aoki added his beat to this version. I also suggest you check out the live versions of Mic Drop (BTS is also known for their superior live performances) (2017 Mic Drop MAMA performance is a good one). Thanks for checking BTS out and being open minded about them. You've only seen a tip of the iceberg but you'll be thoroughly impressed as you discover more about them. A 51 yr old new subscriber here and hoping to see more of your BTS journey. You won't be disappointed. :)
P.S. My recommendations for your next reaction: 'On' Kinetic Manifesto Film, Run BTS (there is a dance practice video, which I suggest you see because the choreo is clearer than the live performance due to the busy camera work) and Dionysus.

The huge difference between BTS and the other bands is mainly because they all have a hand in song writing, producing and composing and they don’t write about the simple love about a man and a woman but the love of one’s self. Their songs have deep deep meanings that you will want to consult other reactors for the explanation. Mic Drop has a deeper meaning than what is on the surface. Get to know them as solo artists, now that they all have their solo stuff out - well Jin, the eldest, made just one song before he went to do his military service but it is the one with Coldplay so.. He also went to perform it with them on Coldplay tour, just before he went in to do his duty. Jin's solo songs - well maybe except Super Tuna!(*) - makes me cry. (* and Super Tuna probably makes BTS's leader cry, because tuna is endangered and he loves all sealife so much, he won't eat it). Jin's voice is so exquisite, and as a trained actor he can bring in so much emotion to his singing it is just overwhelming. When he sings about the 6 other members and how he feels like he doesn't measure against them, but he will do his everything to support the other 6 fly higher than he can.. Breaks my heart. Awake.
BTS actually teaches many of us people who are not well versed in music production as they share how they do their music.. Suga and RM usually do live after their mix tape is out and tell us how they did it and what was the process.. Suga (groups main producer - again : with their in-house producers, who some did what Suga originally dreamed of : became in-house producers) started with those home synths when he was 13. He talked it (again) in some episodes of Suchita with one of his quests. And RM was the same age when he started writing his raps.

I like your thoughts and how you can see from many perspectives. Personally, I think BTS got to where they are now (or what you mean by "why") due to the fact that most Armys got into BTS for their quality (music, production, visuals, other surface-level things) but finally stay and spread the love due to their story, messages, and what they represent. If you're down for it, you can either check out their B-side songs (which talk about more personal things) or check out a BTS introduction video to delve deeper into the "why".

The awesome thing about Mic Drop is that it was made after years and years of people talking s*** about them, but I love how BTS deals with it. They are always so proper, decent, polite (and they're honestly famous for that too), but they will occasionally use music to respond to people. So they won't let anyone step on them and tell them off, but they will do it in the most tasteful way. I really like that about them. I wonder what you'll be into... but in my experience you'll probably end up loving some songs that you didn't expect to. I usually listen to jazz, soul, blues, funk and some classic rock, but with BTS I love it all. I've really gotten into rap through them and discovered it's origin (Rhythm And Poetry). With an open mind, which you've so beautifully demonstrated already, you will come to see what they're capable of. But part of what makes BTS so great is that they're amazing in SOO MANY AREAS. Their personalities, their beings their values, the way they treat people. The art, their lyrics, wordplay, eastereggs, references to history literature art movies etc.. Their production, playing around with genres (which is becoming gradually more normal in the rest world. BTS moving boundaries!), sometimes using auditory methods to enhance the meaning of the lyrics. Their performances, stage presence, their endless energy, dedication and on-point performances.
I could go on. Sorry about the long rant. It's just... They will surprise you. They're not like other bands. They went against what everyone else was doing in Kpop industry when they started, they grew, and now more groups are following their lead and changing up the ways of kpop - which is a good thing. But they've in many ways outgrown the kpop industry and belonging to any genre. BTS is the genre, as we say. They have pop, sure. But also a lot of other genres or blends.

If you want something that shows off more of their artistic side but don't want to be distracted by choreo or strong beats I recommend 'Born Singer' or 'The Truth Untold'. There is no MV for either of these but you can see a live performance for both.

The thing is almost all you've mentioned about different people taste is part of BTS discography. The only thing that they haven't done I think is heavy metal, however they tend to use heavier sound for some songs when perform them live.
To showcase different sound they use I suggest to check the following songs (group/subgroup/solo):
    BTS - Black swan
    BTS - DDAENG
    BTS - Louder than bombs
    BTS - Airplane pt.2
    BTS - Dionysus
    BTS - Your eyes tell
    Jungkook - Still with you
    BTS - Not today
    V - Winter bear
    BTS - Make it right
    BTS - So What
    BTS - Stay Gold
    Jimin - Lie
    BTS - For youth
    BTS - Run BTS
There are many more but I tried to include only those with very different sound. Not all of them have an official MV and in addition Louder than bombs was not performed live (still hope to hear it though) but all are super-high quality. So I'm sure you enjoy from music point of view.
    Thanks for your reaction!

I think you'll be surprised how many of us come more from a rock/general pop background and not k-pop.. Myself? I'm an alternative/modern rock girl, who purposefully avoided anything labeled with the dreaded "boyband" label like the plague, lol. But after seeing the links on YT so often, I finally clicked on this song for curiosity after seeing the views as well, and as soon as it started I said to myself "Oh no..." and even I couldn't have envisioned the rabbit hole that they are both as musicians and people.
Since you seemed curious about the original version, it's actually quite similar. The two main things Steve did was really lean into the beat and quite a few lyrics got changed to English, which made sense because this was around the time of their big debut into America. I actually prefer the lyrics on the original as it's less repetitive. (btw, you probably can't react to this as it's from a Music Show and they tend to block everything)

Check out any live performances. I'm partial to their appearance on The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon. It was during the height of the pandemic. The album is 7 and the song was titled "On" and it was performed in a the iconic Grand Central Station in New York city. The only people who were there besides BTS was the stylists, makeup artists, the production group and an actual marching band. You think their videos are great, their live performances are like a mini concert.

68 year old Auzzie here and l have been ARMY since 2017. BTS is not just about the music, it is their personalities, attitudes and work ethic that set them apart. Just as you discovered the difference between Dynamite and Mic Drop ,you will see a vast difference between all of their songs. I am not a Kpop fan to be honest because most of it sounds the same, but BTS is very different and unique. My favourite part of BTS ( besides the singing and dancing)is the lyrics. They seem to speak to people and understand what people of all ages are going through. At 68 l have been through many eras of music and enjoyed the songs, but BTS has overwhelmed me by their writing and production and of course their performance. My only regret is that l am not 40 years younger so l can live through the BTS era for a lot more of my life.

Mic Drop is specifically addressing all of those who throughout BTS' existence have put them down, criticized them for their looks and their small company, who questioned them as the underdogs that would never succeed. It's a final goodbye to say, good luck to you, but we found our way and now we are soaring above your criticism. Their path was VERY rocky and very hard. They struggled so much to get where they are. That attitude is so refreshing to truly say, this is our mic drop. The end. As Joon says in one of their Cyphers, 'You might now like me but you know my name"
ETA: one of the lyrics says "Once upon a time, we learnt how to fly" and that's actually very deep, because their previous album is called Wings, and the wings are a huge motif in that album and in lyrics which talk about flying in a way that ARMY has allowed them to fly. It represents finding a way above those that were holding them down. Finding a new way around road blocks. 💜💜

I thought they were alright, but never really sought out their music until I saw the live performance of "Run BTS" (a different song than their song titled "Run") at their Busan concert. Their performance level and choreography, coupled with actual live vocals got me interested. I sought out more about them and their music, and I'm hooked. Not only do they produce fun/meaningful/etc. songs, but watching the many videos they've put out over the years of the boys interacting with one another and with fans draws you in on a different level. They really do seem to be who they claim to be: a group of regular guys who are humble, polite, and fun. By all accounts from people who have worked with them, they really are who they seem to be on camera. It isn't just an act. And they truly seem to appreciate their fans and one another, as well. I think fans want to connect to artists, but it's often difficult because they're either closed off, or aloof, or feel that they're too important. The experience you get with this group is wholly different. They really do make you feel like you know them personally, and that inhances the experience. That's one of the biggest reasons so many people support them. We want to see genuine people do well.

70 year old BTS Army here. The reason BTS is where they are is simple. It's because they chose to not focus on boy/girl love songs. Their music is all about the lyrics. They're about social injustice, depression/ mental health, bullying, follow your dreams, staying true to yourself, and self love to name a few topics. People connect with their music on a deeply personal level. Their songs are about following dreams, challenging norms, and staying true to yourself in the face of uncertainty. BTS themselves overcame adversity in order to achieve their dreams.
BTS is heavily involved in much of the songwriting.

You are so interesting to listen to. You bring up viewpoints not thought of by many (or perhaps just not verbalized). Thank you for the reaction. 64 year old ARMY here (there are more of us than you might think). One thing that caught my attention was your comment about watching them in Dynamite and perhaps thinking - whose the bad boy, whose the sweet one, etc. And your realization of that thought process now. There is a quote from Bang Shi Hyuk (founder of BTS and now chairman of Hybe)... he wanted them to be sincere and genuine figures that people could easily relate to and grow with, not immaculate idols groomed amid studio culture, but real boys who shared their authentic personalities and talents with the world.(reference - This is BTS, Introduction to BTS by xCeleste). It's a very true and revealing comment, in my opinion. It was the difference from the very beginning (along with their talent and drive). Seven individuals who are amazing together. Looking forward to more reactions, Thanks again.

I was extremely depressed when I found them, and they have so many different genres of music, and then I learned their back story, and then I started watching their reality/variety shows and realized that who they are as people, and their music, was making me genuinly happy. They have songs that teach me to love myself, and then songs that make me dance, songs that I relate to relationship wise ect. I'm also a sucker for dancers. Jhope drew me in because of his dancing. Then I fell for all of them. They are genuinely kind people who work very hard. Jimin hopped on Weverse this morning (Well morning for me) to tell us he loves us and to stay warm, because it's getting cold out. They treat us like Family, and they go above and beyond to make sure we are happy. They joke around with us even. I could go on and on. I love their music and the message behind it, but I also love them as human beings. I'm rambling at this point. I hope you have a good day!!!

I was once a hater, simply because I thought they were another look-at-me, pretty boy, we're-so-tough boy band. I thought they were totally manufactured and had everyone else grooming them -- their only job was to look pretty and lip sync well.
    I was SO wrong.
The reason I stayed around was because I saw their first speech at the United Nations (first of three so far), their campaigns with UNICEF to protect children, their lyrics for their many insightful songs, and their humble personalities.
The first time I actually watched them was a talkshow, where they came out with good energy, but humble hearts. I watched the way they built each other up and spoke in earnest. Then they proceeded to DESTROY the tiny stage with their amazing skills. It was like watching a group of kids you really think are sweet suddenly become superheroes. (I'm 44, btw)
After that, down the rabbit hole I fell.

Black Swan really did me in, and then I just wanted to know names and that was it. It was like well, I just want to a little bit more, and now here I am. Someone who knows their discography, all their shows, all their interviews...I got sucked in.

The reason I love BTS is because of the storyline and deep lyrics related to psychology, mythology.... They have a way of writing that makes me feel like they understand fully what I'm going through and like they're really there for me... Lol it's hard to explain, I'm 30, I've NEVER been a part of a fandom or cared about a artist before in my life, but BTS are just different.... You'll understand better once you listen to more music and take the time to watch videos or read comments that explains the songs, most of their songs have really deep meanings and besides for some of their earlier music, hardly any of it is cliche love or break up songs....
Also everyone just loves their personalities, they're like a bunch of playful funny grown men kids 😅😆 so we just wanna support them the best we can because we wanna see and help them succeed in life and help them achieve all their goals.... They help us in many ways so we want to help them.... 🙆🏻‍♀️💜

The thing about BTS is that they are seven different artists in one group.
Listening to just two songs is like seeing two letters in the title of an entire book.
BTS is versatility, fun pop, aggressive rap, criticism of society, deep lyrics with a lot of meaning, sad and beautiful ballads, it is comfort, it is mutual support between fans and artist.
They are seven young people telling their story (they come from a small company with no resources, even the seven of them slept in a small room) They invite you to stay strong despite the difficulties.
I recommend "RUN BTS" (be careful, "RUN BTS" is not the same as "RUN") Or "festa 2021" where you can listen to a bit of its variety.
Or my favorite "proof live", their lyrics are a bit melancholic because they started to say goodbye to do their military service and come back as a group in 2025.

For a next step, I think Black Swan would be a great one, and after that maybe a series.
Any BTS song is great on its own, but many of them are written in the context of an album or an album series and I think that the way BTS tell stories over albums is one of the things that raises their art to the next level. Singularity is chef's kiss on its own, but in the context of songs such as Euphoria, Serendipity, and Epiphany, a lot more of its story can be understood. Add in another five to ten songs from that album series, and the picture is even fuller and more detailed.

Ohhhh you're going to enjoy their discography. I don't usually recommend this, but I think you might enjoy starting from the beginning and seeing how they changed over time. They grew up, their styles changed, their stories changed, and they developed more skills as performers. It's pretty cool to see.
They do pretty much everything, and they do all of it as carefully as they can, with attention to every detail. I'm already looking forward to your excitement. I love your point distinguishing liking something from judging its quality, and think it's a really important one.
Another approach to their work you might enjoy is to look at their solo work - all of them have at least a few songs out there, two have official solo studio album releases, and there are solo songs within BTS as well. All of them have done some amount of songwriting and production (RM is in the lead on writing, Suga on production) and they have their own voices. I suspect you'll enjoy learning each individual voice and then putting them together.
My favorite BTS song is always whichever one I'm listening to, but Black Swan, Spring Day, and Baepsae are a few that I come back to often. They don't really have bad songs, so it's just what you connect with personally. I like grief and rage I guess. Oh, and On.
Some songs have a powerful social context - which I'm mentioning because of Spring Day, which is the one where that matters the most. You might want to do a quick Google ahead of time if you're going to do that one. There are also quite a few that were written specifically for the fans and you'll miss a lot (the Yet to Come video is the best example) so you can decide if you'd rather wait until you'll get the references.
I'm subscribing - I like your approach! - and I look forward to this journey 😁💜
