This is one of the hardest birds to have in your family due to it’s complex needs to thrive. This bird is in exceptional condition, this lady is doing an amazing job of caring for this beautiful bird.
thank you for bringing up the fact that they are hard to care for. im always worried people will see videos like this and immediately think they need one. toucans are not a bird id recommend anybody have as a pet unless theyre specially qualified.
It's only recently (about 5-6 years now), that I've come to appreciate how emotional, individual, clever, intelligent - etc., many birds are. When I first saw a video of a parrot snuggling in the bed with it's owner, it was an epiphany. They are extraordinary, and I find rescue/rehibilitation/love stories like these deeply moving.
@@LindaCasey Living in a street with a slaughterhouse the first 18 years of my life, did that trick for me. Btw, the neighbourhood was very violent. Working in such an environment brings out the worst in people. Nowerdays the slaughterhouse is gone, and it's a good place to live.
Parrots are especially intelligent and if they lose thier owner who they've come to love they get very depressed and pull all Thier feathers out it's really heartbreaking to see because these birds really know what love and kindness is ❤️🦜
Domestic turkeys and chickens will snuggle with you as babies 100%, if you raise them with love and as they mature, they will be socialized and make excellent companions.
True! That is because they actually shouldn’t be pets. People who see videos like this of rescue birds think they are fun and good pets so they buy one but have no idea what a lot of amazing care they give these beautiful birds. So glad she saved him and giving him a good life ❤

This is a very cute video. I didn't expect that as I've been attacked by a tiny bird once and since then I'm not so keen on birds as pets but this is very sweet. I like that the video gives an honest portrayal of the difficulty of having an exotic animal and that the owner wasn't out looking for one. Great job on nursing the toucan back to health.
She rescued one out of many suffering birds. I'm so happy this beautiful toucan is thriving. My heart hurts thinking about the others left behind and suffering.
Omg thank you for mentioning that these birds are EXOTIC and are HIGH MAINTENCE animals. I love toucans with all my heart, but could I own one? Probably not. I can tell these people know what they're doing and that this Toucan is very happy. I have never had any animals in my life but I just know that a Toucan sounds like alot of work.
I saw these at the zoo in San Diego and was blown away by how beautiful they are. Amazing animal. That's so cool that Touki seems to respond well to humans. Amazing work by Janelle looking after this beautiful bird!
I'm from a country with toucans and it's easy to know if they're ok and happy: nice feathers and bright colors, just like in this video. It was so nice, in the jungle we could hear a fast "tac-tac-tac" here, then there, then farther and we started looking for the bright colors.
I had a teacher when I was in 5th grade that was from New York and he introduced us to pigeons. My pigeon flock got to be about 25 or more. Then I also got some chickens. I finally got a parakeet and I've had several. If you treat them good and give them all the nutrition they need and love they are the most amazing sweetest cutest smartest fun and lovable little buddies you could ever have.
I'm so glad you put the disclaimer that folks research before rescuing or getting one as a pet. You take such wonderful care if your baby that you make it look fun and easy to have a toucan in the house. But just from having conures I know what a commitment these intelligent creatures require and it's not all fun. It takes a lot of hard work/love and devotion to get from a sickly baby to this beautiful bird!
I was really impressed by the message at the end. This is the best advice, I would say maybe is good to have it at the beginning of the video and the end. It just amazing and people shouldn't be ignoring it.
He is sooooooo beautiful!!! I am so very happy that you took him home! He deserves a good home and lots of love!!! Look how he is thriving being in his new home!!! Thank you again for saving him!!! Joannie
You should totally write that book if you have not already. Most people do not realize that Toucans can be kept legally as pets, and they can be pretty good companions. After all, it is basically a parrot with a huge beak.
I do appreciate all the emphasis that these birds are not a good prospect for ownership, unless you're willing to make that the only aspect of your life. exotic animals are one heck of a commitment.
The "scream" akin to a frog croaking is a call used to maintain contact with members of the flock. Keel billed toucans are social and live in groups. When one family member is away he instinctively uses the call to communicate where he is, hoping they will answer. Even though no one else in the family will croak back he looks like he isn't stressed about that.
I approve of this beautiful vid. I dunno, Tocos have quite a purr as well. Amazing Keel Bill. Good luck folks, they are the most "independent" toucan. ❤
Hey was a fledgling, they all look like that. Look up toucan and aracari baby pics. He probably was sick but he looked exactly how he is supposed to at that age.
Their beaks are basically just keratin, like our nails and hair from what I understand. They're thin and lightweight so despite their size I don't think the beak itself actually weighs that much? And despite the toughness they're definitely prone to chipping and breaking from what I've seen. Just things to think about
This Toucan looks absolutely stunning and very well cared for and nurtured. They are indeed VERY VERY complicated, unique and beautiful birds with a variety of dietary, and upkeep and care needs. They are also very likely to build a strong bond with a singular person in a family home and can be aggressive to any others in that home and even combative with anyone they see as a threat to the bond they have with their person (they can cause drama and trauma between couples) It is my understanding that it's a common practice for these breeders that sell these and other exotic birds intentionally keep them in deplorable yet alive conditions in order to sell them more quickly to people wishing to "rescue" them. Many people do so and thus the vicious cycle continues. Although this lovely woman has done an amazing job with Touki - not all hopeful rescuer's do. Please, please unless you know how to care for them - do not buy them to rescue them - it continues the cycle. Report the sellers/breeders and don't buy their birds.
