Right?!? What is so sad is that Mr. White wanted all of the information received from the family. Had the family not contacted him he would’ve never known. He would not have known she had babies in a nest and a husband waiting on her safe return. Mama would have just been let loose.
It STILL takes away the liability from the video maker and forces YOU to make an extra effort to find the guy, which WOULD be used in court as proof of intent if you had nefarious ideas.
It's not my fault if suing and stalking are two of America's favorite National sports. It makes EVERYONE get wary and protective, and it makes a lot of lawyers RICH...

I’ve been a vet tech for 14 years. And in a situation like this, I would never ever not let the rescuers know where the mama is. Especially when there are babies involved. And when the male is crying for days on end with no help. Even though the name of the hospital is blurred out: The people in this state know where it is. SHAME! They brought it to them. It’s not an underground crack den!!
i found a baby fox and got updates from the " ANIMAL VET PLACE, for a month i believe till he grew and got released i cried of joy
I would have thought it would be important to them to keep in touch with the rescuers, as that momma would have needed to be returned to where she was found. Rehabbed animals are usually returned to their home areas unless there is a reason they need to be relocated.
That family is so wonderful, Tommy is wonderful, that vet office needs to be informed on the importance of getting animals back to where they live. I'll bet Tommy was relieved to hear from the family.
Yeah, that policy doesn't make sense to me. The family had legit concern as well as the collateral information to substantiate why they should be looped into the release plans.

I worked for a vet's office and we would gladly let the rehab people know that the rescuers would like an update and gave them their information so they could call and update them. We were so grateful for those who take the time to rescue animals that we would never talk to them the way this vet's office did.

I know! I was very frustrated by that. I can understand not giving out someone’s contact info, but take the 2min to call the contact and give them the girls #. How hard is that? I wouldn’t want anyone lacking compassion/empathy handling my babies.

As a rehabber, I am ALWAYS happy to share updates. It makes me crazy when other rehabbers and facilities won’t do that. I can understand that it’s hard during “baby season” when you don’t have the necessary help available, but even then, it can be done if you think outside the box. And in the end, the people willing to help critters are ALSO those willing to donate money and supplies and volunteer time, so it only makes sense!

Alot of vets are like that sadly... Really short, curt, and sometimes really rude. In my state, we have a Tier One and its an ER vet clinic, and its like the white-rich person clinic. They will treat you like less than them, charge you ridiculous amounts for treatments, and make you feel like you dont belong there.
On 2 instances they were cold hearted to my animals and I couldnt do a damn thing because they needed to get treated.

I feel like the least the vet's office could've done is pass on the family's contact info to the rehabber, who could then reach out to the family if he wanted to. Minimal additional effort and would have made everyone happy without violating anyone's privacy.

The connection between the family and the rehabber is so, so wonderful. The male calling for his mate was tough. He certainly did step up to feed his chicks. Bravo Nature! 💕
The vet wouldn't even ask the rehabber if he wanted the information to be given out... also the fact he is on FB and sharing live videos of the rehab means he is willing to share - the vet could've given out that information. truly disgusting. Also the fact the rehabber was willing to release it back at the nest is really amazing.
Osprey's, like a lot of birds, mate for life so it was in her best interest to be released back to home territory. So glad this had a happy ending!

I’ve seen this video multiple times and I still get goosebumps when the rehabber lets her out of the cage and she starts to fly. It’s so wonderful. That rehabber was wonderful and I’m so glad he wasn’t dismissive to the family like the vet was.
This was so emotional. Not sure I could have handled any other ending.

There is no reason for the vet’s dismissive attitude towards these wonderful, caring people who saved this bird. Thank God they stumbled upon the guy who was actually rehabilitating the bird. This story was so heartwarming! Well, everything except for the way the vet treated them.
Completely dismissive and reminds me of how I was treated at several dentists' offices: thought it was part of the student discount.

Whereas the lack of *any* information was a bit untoward, I absolutely understand the need to keep the rehabber's personal information (including contact info) confidential. If I surrender my time and effort to rehab animals, ESPECIALLY something as time intensive as a wild bird, it would be very upsetting to have my personal number or email given to random people. Personally, I wouldn't be okay with taking a random call when I signed up to rehab the bird, not run PR.

A) the vet doesn't know where the bird is going to be placed after treatment as soon as they come in (The rescuers themselves had to call multiple public rehab facilities, and there would be multiple private individuals also working in that field)
B) Not everyone likes having their contact information handed out to people they've never met
C) We watched a less than 5-minute interaction between a vet tech and the people who brought in a very injured bird, and from that people are deciding this vet tech/office are clearly heartless. Which is a hell of a leap.
Wildlife vets and rehabbers have privacy rules just like anyone else. I get that people want updates, but it's not your pet.
@@fevre_dream8542 you keep commenting this, but NO ONE wanted the vet to "hand out" the number. All they had to do was call the rehabber themselves (who they did know, because they handed the bird off to him) and explain the situation, then give him THEIR number and he could make the choice. He clearly would have reached out, because as soon as they called he chose to answer and continue to communicate. So the vets didn't even try to connect the two, even though that NEVER meant handing out his phone number to strangers. Get it?
The compassion and dedication showed by this family and rehabber are beyond commendable.

It really concerns me that the vets weren’t even bothered about reuniting her with her babies/family especially considering Ospreys tend to mate for life!! Their policies are just nonsense, exactly what details are they protecting - all they had to do was pass on their details to the rehabber- I mean was the rehabber even told mom had babies waiting!! Argh made me so mad. So glad the family didn’t give up and wow what a happy ending 🙏🥰

Sally, I completely agree!! That was infuriating, and considering the people at the vet have dedicated their lives to taking care of animals, you'd think that they would at least ACT like they care. So wonderful to see. The Ospreys are part of their family and that was clearly obvious. Their determination to ensure their family stayed intact got them past the obstacles thrown up by that particular vet and whatever illogical policy they had in place. Magic

That is what we call a "rest assured we'll take care of it" response that is fantastic for avoiding or evading any actual engagement. They need a better veterinary office. Birds, especially, are often an annoyance to non-specialist vets anyway, and being wildlife doesn't help. If the rehab contact they were using was legitimate (i.e., certified, etc.), that person would likely have a significant interest in handling, or at least advising on what to do, with an Osprey family situation involving chicks as needed, not just bringing one of the parent birds back to health for release. Obviously, that turns out to be the case, but with the vet's office seeming to have no involvement in that or comprehension of how best to help.
Yeah.... I just don't know why they didn't care. Like why so cold and just don't care. People are just freaking heartless They just do their job and they don't care like those are the type of people I don't want care for me or my animals. Maybe they do their job well I don't know but if you can't do your job with heart and compassion I don't want you touching us.
Why criticize people for following rules? You are hearing one side of the story here. Don't be so quick to judge others.

This sounds like a case of those vet techs being like, "I'm just here to get a paycheck and you're asking me to do more than what I'm being paid to do so I'll just give you a runaround excuse." The rehabilitator operates a business. They're not asking for his social security number. You can, at the very least, provide his business info.

if any above-and-beyond energy is expended, it's usually seems to be prompted by negative, inappropriately judgy emotional impetus (towards other individuals) or avarice.
i always try to imagine how we might help to change the game... just little steps like calling regional corporate headquarters to leave positive feedback for the especially beneficent people, rather than exclusively reporting complaints that further another type of progression, etc. it would be so cool for the more caring/loving/empathetic individuals to start ruling things :D

It VERY much depends. I can absolutely understand the vet techs defaulting to refusing to give out someone's personal information (ESPECIALLY if there were multiple rehabbers and they didn't know which would take the bird), and would appreciate it if I was rehabbing the bird. A rehabber has NO obligation to play personal relations when they signed up to heal animals, and it drives a lot of people away from volunteering. I would be very upset to receive random calls because I volunteered for a position and they just gave out my number.
This rehabber owns a business. Not all do.

Oh the family is literally the most caring, pure hearted, ideal family that I have seen on here. I mean ALL of them were crying at various points throughout the video, and the investment they put in to give the ospreys the best life possible is so inspiring and something we should all strive for. I was so invested in the video that I didn't even realize it was nearly 10 minutes long...I swear I could have watched it all day and still want to see more!

Maybe the rehabbers don't want their names released so they don't end up with unwanted public attention while they're trying to take care of the birds. They're likely providing their services as volunteers and don't have much time for chit chat.
This story made me cried, but yet it made so happy that those blessed samaritan helped the beautiful Mama Bird back to her family.

The vets could have asked Tommy whites permission to be contacted or given him the families contact details so he could decide to give them updates to let them know how things were going. Rules and data protection are there to protect people i know, but that was a little short sighted and unnecessary. But more importantly.... what fantastic, caring and talented caregivers and a happy outcome 😍

This was kind of weird as well because where I live you are able to call rehabbers directly if you know of an animal that is in need so I’m confused. If he’s a registered rehabber by the department of wildlife or agriculture I would think they would at least be able to give you the business name with a number that you could call or email? I mean he had a business Facebook page for Christ sake. That vet is doing a real disservice. I get the intention is good, but no one needs his personal information just his business information.

I have a nesting pair in the field behind my apartment. They built new soccer fields with big lights on poles, and that spring a pair built a nest and raised their chicks, and now they’re here again, it’s the first week in June, and mama is on her nest. So cool! I love the whole process, and the first time you hear the new chicks peeping is exciting. Their return every year is great. Thank you for saving Mama, and for diligently searching out her rehabbed so he could release her near her nest. Excellent story!

What is the vet protecting...the osprey's personal health information? So ridiculous to put this lovely family through that stress especially when the rehabber was so willing to work with them.

It's probably as simple as it sounds, they aren't allowed to hand out personal information on their rehabers. One thing that could've been done or brought up though is forwarding the idea of giving the rehaber the contact information and perhaps a short summary in regards to the family so that he may contact them.
They could have given the family's number to the rehab... I mean, you can't release an animal just in some random place (I've raised and rehab wild birds myself), especially in this case where there's people telling you there's a nest with babies that need to be fed by both parents...
I think it was the rehabber's personal information they wouldn't give out. But yes, it's ridiculous that they can't pass on the Rescuer's contact info to the Rehab place, then they can get in contact if they are willing to do so. Simple!

To the family that saved her, y'all are earth angels. Thank u so much for being such great humans. All four of u were just so great . So was the rehabber!!!!! Love to everyone. Except the vet techs who could've called the rehabber to say her special circumstances here.
That vet sucks and they were so dismissive, it was to the point of rudeness.
These people were obviously very concerned for the bird's wellbeing. These birds tend to mate for life. They told them she has young offspring. Wouldn't they like to know as much information as possible about nest location so they can rehab her and release her back to her nest?
This was all so unnecessarily stressful for the family simply because the vet couldn't be bothered to just ASK the rehabber if he felt comfortable speaking with/updating the family. He had a public business page, for Christ's sake. Like, come on.
I hope the family told people which vet office that was as I know many would avoid trusting them with their pets given the attitude shown here.
True, even the way she held the bird with it's feet upside down, I felt quite uncomfortable. Like they're just employees trying to finish their 9-5 day job and earn their day's pay.
Agree 100%, and the rehab was obviously public info since they were able to find and call the rehab. It didn't have to be that difficult.
@@mozvidz I've volunteered at a wildlife rehabilitation center and the way she carried the bird is standard for carrying birds of prey. I was lucky to help grip the legs of a peregrine female and young Cooper's Hawks. That grip (along with gripping the neck) are the best ways to protect yourself from those scary talons and beak 😰
That said, they seemed too "business-centric" and not considerate about the very concerned rescuers.

I agree. Zero reason to be lousy like that. Everyone had the same goal. Reunite the healthy family safely. Updates would have in no way impacted that. Some people are little Napoleons. They have a smidgen of Power and act like jerks.

So wonderful for the osprey family. Also, those who cared enough to want to help her. Thinking Daddy osprey and babies are truly blessed. By all who were involved and their acts of kindness. ♥️
Topping it all off, the momma osprey successfully protected her babies and survived. It's like a Disney movie without the tragedy part.

I volunteer at a wild bird rehabilitation. Often times we have to send birds to other locations (sometimes private homes) to give an animal more specialized care. I’m assuming this gentleman is offering care within his private home. The safety issue is that theft is a real possibility. I would have taken the phone numbers of the ladies who rescued that beautiful girl, and given it to the rehabilitator so he could contact them. I’m just glad this story had a happy ending.
@@misscleo378 First of all, theft is a safety issue for everyone; being a wildlife rehabber doesn't put you at elevated risk. Second, the vet's policy is ludicrous given the family was able to track down the rehabber within a few hours on the internet. Third, the rehabber is clearly unconcerned with the risk of theft since he's on a list of rehabbers, has a Facebook page and uploads/streams video of himself doing his job. He clearly isn't concerned about his "safety".
Numerous commenters have suggested an easy work around that the vet refused to consider. The vet displayed a very detached, hostile attitude to the point I question whether they are in the right line of work or not.
@@janda5816 Just because that rehabber doesn't care about visibility and safety doesn't mean others don't. If they give out contact info without someone's permission, that could bite them in the ass. This isn't a pet; it's a wild animal -- regardless of how the family feels about them. And while it's admirable that they took action to get the bird help, they were kind of being Karens in their tone with the vet. The vet told them their policy and they kept pushing.

I mean, if I sacrifice my time and effort to rehab something as intense as a wild bird, I honestly don't want to be getting multiple unsolicited calls regarding its condition from someone I don't know. It's invasive. If the info is passed on to me and I decide to reach out then fine, but unsolicited contact isn't okay.
In this case, the rehabber ran an actual business and was okay with it. That isn't always the case, and I would be very upset if my info was given away to whoever asked by the agency I volunteer for.

I never said it was, I was offering an example of why this policy was in place. After looking through some veterinary law further, the policy only makes more sense.
Vets are prohibited from sharing patient information with anyone but the owner of the animal and those the owner gives explicit permission. This animal is wild, the people who rescued it do not own it and therefore are excluded under this law. Such information includes the condition and prognosis of the bird as well as the bird's final disposition. Similarly, it is legally questionable at best to give out the information of those who rescued the bird to anybody, including the rehabber, also because they are not the owner.
People keep lambasting these vets for doing their actual job (saving the bird) and protecting the privacy of all parties, which is what they're SUPPOSED to do.
@@fevre_dream8542 Look, if you work with wildlife and devote your time to helping animals, I commend you for it. But wild or not, if someone rescues an animal, I think it's cruel to cut them out of the process. Granted, you shouldn't have to give them hourly updates or anything, but I certainly wouldn't be okay with rescuing an animal and being emotionally invested and then basically told "too bad, your part is over, you'll never know what happened to them." That's not okay.
The vets should at the very least put the rescuers in contact with the rehabber by passing on their information so that the rehabber can send them an email to let them know what's going on. I don't think anyone's saying it would be okay for a rescuer to call over and over and bother the rehabber but they definitely deserve to be kept in the loop. And, for example, in this case it was important for the rehabber to know that his patient had babies and a mate waiting, and their exact location, so that the bird wasn't just shipped off to god knows where and never reunited with its family. IMO the rehabber should always reach out to the rescuers to just tell them "hey this is what's happening, no need to check in, I'll update you when there's something worth knowing" and let them pass on any relevant information they may have as well. It takes minimal time and can make a world of difference to both the rescuers and the patient.

Bless this family and the rehabber. I'm in tears watching this and am so glad that these osprey have their human family looking out for them. My husband and I had a situation where a chimney swift nest that our chimney swifts that come here every year fell down the chimney into the fireplace with the babies inside it. At first we panicked and called rehabbers right away, but we took the time to think about how we might be able to remedy the situation in a way that would be best for the babies....we didn't want to take them away from mom and dad. We ended up building a makeshift nest and put their original nest inside of it fixed right above our chimney flue. We waited and waited for mama to come back and she finally did. Our next feat was making sure she'd come all the way down the chimney to the flue to get to them and she finally did reach them. We waited at the bottom of the fireplace for about 12 hours off and on listening for her to land on the chimney and flutter down, and when we heard her finally go down we were ecstatic. I cannot explain the huge sense of relief once we saw her reach the babies and hang onto the nest/chimney with the babies. After that, we knew she'd keep coming back to care for them as long as they stayed there. The nest fell once more a couple of days later and we fixed it to where there was no way it could move again and they lived happily ever after.
Oh when Papa Osprey flew closer...he knew !!!! So happy for the family Osprey.

The person likely assumed the worst, that the injury was caused by humans. Of course that person didn't say as much to the rescuer. Thank goodness the family was persistent and everyone involved provided such marvelous care.

I've seen far too many vets that care more about maximizing profit than actually caring for animals. This vet wanted to avoid getting cut out and stay as a middleman (even though the rehabber was in a public list of rehabbers).

Kudos to the family for caring for these magnificent raptors. They should start volunteering with a wildlife rescue organisation so they can rehab and release them themselves. Wildlife rescue can be a supremely rewarding experience, although it does require a lot of resilience because not all injured animals survive - which is why I had to stop after three years

Veterinarian offices and staffs can be the best thing ever. Consequently they can also be some of the worst places and experiences just alike. If you find a good one stick with them!
In my country, animals are treated less than garbage, so it's very hard to find good vets. I won't own a pet untill I move to a better place...
I have had some bad vet experiences (about 4 or 5). The last one was we were feeding a cat totally rejected by the neighbourhood and I think he had been living outside for years. It was so sad. He would only come in occasionally but was scared. I used to make him beds inside. He got sick and people next door terrified him with fireworks and he had a stroke.
I knew I had to have him put down and I needed to be with him. He only trusted me. The vet said no you can't come because he may belong to someone. So I was forced to contact spca and I couldn't go back miles to their base with the guy as I had no way home so I had to cage the poor kitty and they took him away to be put down. I still shed tears over it and was sobbing when they took him away. They put him down fast and my husband and I drove a long way to the city to fetch his body and bury him here with some dignity. (Our place is a pet cemetery)!
Stupid vets I could have comforted him at the end.

The vet/vet’s employees were truly disgraceful with their refusal to convey information, as if they feared “identity theft” by the rescuers. GOD Bless the rehaber and the rescuers.
It's more about the confidentiality of the carer who had the bird. It is all a bit frustrating though. I have had issues with getting info about birds I have rescued for similar reasons.

All of these rules and protocol’s are in place for a reason. Most of the time they are in place because of an incident. Something happen that forced those procedures in place…it’s nobody’s fault.
They could have at least let the rehaber know about the people who wanted to get in touch with him and let him make the judgement call if he wanted to get in touch with them. Rather than just say "policy" and do nothing.
I'm glad there are truly some real good people on this planet that can bring harmony together back as a whole.

I rescued a baby squirrel and handfed him until we could find a rehabber during covid lockdown. The rehabber called me several times over the next week to update me. I had bonded with that precious baby and she respected that. A true hero!
Rescuing animals is awesome, even if you can't stay together. If you can't keep them forever, you'll love them even more bc you know you only have so much time. I honestly wish I could foster pets and rescue animals, but we have too many pets and I get attached easily. I am very happy for you ;)

I recused a baby finch last spring and rehab of her was just as hard as being a new mom to my own babies.
The small bird rescue in my area said she would take her, but finches are hard and with having 100+ birds she probably wouldn't make it.
Well I am never one to shy away from a challenge so she stayed in my care the next month. Even after I released her she would come back to me for food until she got the hunting thing down well enough to feed herself sufficiently.

OMG I rescued a baby squirrel as well a few months ago. I still get updates from the rehabber and he will be released in the Spring. I named him Wakanda and I can't wait to watch him go wild. The vets and shelters in NYC wanted nothing to do with him since he wasn't a dog or cat. They just wanted me to leave him there over night and he wouldn't have survived. He definitely would've been killed.
It's so good to see how much people care about other species, but not much about other human beings.

You would think the vet would have understood the need to reunite her with her babies.and her mate and the only way that would have been possible is for the rescuers and the rehab specialist to communicate. It does not make sense. There are no.HIPPA laws for wildlife...
Some people just don't have the heart for critters. I feel they are just as important and have a right to a happy life as humans. We need to do all we can to see they are cared for.

The whole video was so adorable. The family really cared for their ospreys, especially the mum, I'm glad the entire osprey family got together. I can't believe Mama Osprey recovered so quickly 🥺❤️
To be honest, she's lucky she didn't get killed. Eagles can and will kill and eat ospreys, so she was lucky to be spared with minor injuries. It could have been A LOT worse, still, I'm glad she got to go back home to her little ones and her mate, families should never be torn from each other, it really hurts to see such a thing happen.

Couldn’t they have relayed the family’s name to the rehabber and asked if he could contact them? It would have been something instead of just leaving the family in the dark. Anyway, these people are amazing and I hope that the osprey and her family aren’t targeted by the eagle again.
Even the vets in Australia are like this. It's so frustrating. You just want to know that the animal is OK and gets released where you found it.
The vet’s office employees should have seen the genuine concern the rescuers had for the Osprey’s condition, not to mention the fact that she had babies waiting for her and without putting them in touch with the rehab facility, they would have no idea where to release her so she could continue to care for the chicks. I would have totally bent the rules in this case and all they had to do was pass along the rescuer’s contact info. Pretty uncaring IMHO but so glad it all worked out thanks to their perseverance!
I get what you're saying, but bending the rules of HIPAA is a first class ticked to being sued out of existence for any medical professional. There is a reason these laws are in place. If they bend the rules for this, what's to stop them from giving your info to some rando just cuz they asked?

Reminds me of when my outside cats got picked up and the rescuers gave us no information or updates. We were very attached to one that had just given birth and wanted to see where she went. It upset us a lot. Half a year later we find her in the pet shop skinny and freezing (it was winter). We quickly adopted her and she was infested with worms! It’s been over a year now and she’s happy and healthy. Her name is mittens and she likes to “hunt” for toys in the middle of the night and scream at us when she “catches” one. Also she’s a “happy drooler” and loves cuddling. I’m still upset about the whole situation but I’m just glad she’s back with us now.
I'm sad and angry at the whole situation. The rescuer you had gave no updates. Was the cat inside the pet shop or outside? Either way, I think that the 'rescuer' may have abandoned the poor cat. But also ;w;

Eh, I have outdoor cats. We also don't put collars on them cuz our older cat keeps losing them(somehow). We know they'll always come back cuz they can't live without their cuddles and food.

The horrible part is that you had someone uploading videos of the bird on Facebook and at the same time nobody could update this family that was desperate to help these birds, I'm sorry, but awful vet for doing this thing, the vet could simply say we sent the bird to that person.

Yes. If the issue was the consent of the rehabber, all they had to do was get the rehabber's consent. Just the tiniest bit more work than the absolute minimum required, but so many people are loathe to do anything more than the absolute minimum required. Usually, most would even fight against doing even the absolute minimum.
The vet is not entitled to tell the public what happens in a private manner.....
The vet could have simply given the family's info to the rehabber or asked for his consent to give them his info. What's the big deal? Next time find a different vet!
