  • I went in almost expecting spice but ngl There Are Other Ways turns surprisingly nice and wholesome partway through and that makes me quite glad lol. Anyway we all know where things are going NOW because Odysseus is never allowed to have a good day for more than long.
    To the Underworld! Also as always support the original creators because my spastic self forgot to say it due to worries if I took to long when recording lol.

    If i remember correctly jorge confirmed after odysseus won his fight the effects of the moly wore off so he is under a spell when circe is about to stab him he just snaps out of it purely from the devotion to his wife

      Curious why he would need to clarify that......nothing in that interaction required magic involvement it is perfectly normal for him to be tempted by regular old chemistry and attraction in that moment but he then resists in loyalty to his wife

      @@MrJpc1234her words of seduction is her magic. She probably has a magic charm that makes people feel more at ease and trust her. In the song puppeteer, the men that got turned into pigs were probably lured by her magic into putting down their guard cause do you really think that after what they’d been through, they’d trust that easily? Her words are laced with magic.

      @@shadow_vibezz I mean thats perfectly possible but your completely missing the point....WHY do you try to impose a supernatural explanation onto a natural interaction between Odysseus and Circe here

    Jorge did confirm Odysseus summoned a cyclops. That is canon. And the 12 years was incorrect. Jorge once again confirmed it wasn’t supposed to be 12 years. 🤣 it’s become a running joke that Odysseus can’t tell time.

    What I really like about Gigi's animations is that each character has their own unique style.
    For instance, the way Circe walks is really cool... it looks like she's strutting down the runway.

    Another side note its believed when she said she was in love once before she wasnt referring to hermes but instead glaucus which if you know scylla you know how that panned out for all parties involved especially given how circe is at this current point

    If you listen to the cello at the beginning of Done For, it's the same cello as you get for the Habanera, a famous seductive operatic aria.

    I actually like how Jorge changed the story adaptation, about Odysseus and Circe - but not because of my "modern sensibilities" lol. Thematically speaking, it makes more sense; Odysseus canon motivation, even back in source material, IS his love for Penelope. That's his core motivation. He kept refusing to marry an immortal goddess, who offered him freaking immortality - THAT's how badly Odysseus wants to be back with his wife. So, him giving in and sleeping with a highly sus sorceress for no reason? Makes little sense. And it makes even less sense for Circe to want to, as well, considering how he and his men just invaded her house.
    From my perspective, Circe probably did not seduce Odysseus in the long, long forgotten first version of the story. It was probably added later on by shippers (yes I am 100% serious, shipping is as old as humanity itself), and by the time Homer wrote it down, Ody x Circe was "canon". Else, why write Odysseus' character that way? Last thing I checked, people desperately in love with someone aren't exactly eager to sleep around.

      I've held the belief that ancient myths are mostly fanfiction of things that no longer exist, and so you're left to the preferences and opinions of hundreds of writers to guess what was "canon".

    • @SeikerHikaru
      @SeikerHikaru  2 หลายเดือนก่อน +6

      Yeah mythology is pretty much a mosaic of hundreds of years of opinions we're more or less doing our best to understand the nuances of with only a tiny little snapshot to work with.
      Pretty much why these myths are so hotly debated on the context of, because who KNOWS what shifted in moves from oral to written tradition and even more changes with time.

      Maybe it wasn't considered cheating if he didn't sleep with her out of love. I'm not disputing the "fanfic" argument I totally agree on this point but I think the meaning of cheating may have had different implications in history. I also imagine that Circe sleeping with him on her terms makes her feel (and be realistically) in control of the situation. She can get rid of him whenever she wants since the Moly has worn off. I could be totally wrong I'm not familiar with the whole acts of lust thing but that's how I interpreted the situation 😅

    • @blueteller
      @blueteller 2 หลายเดือนก่อน +4

      @@cid_of_krebs I wasn't really thinking of "cheating", I know those type of standards heavily depend on culture. But Ancient Greece had very specific beliefs regarding types of love. What Odysseus has with Penelope is definitely "Eros", the same type of love between Orpheus and Eurydice; a type of passionate desire bordering on madness. In this context, it doesn't make *sense* for Ody to be with any other partners, because Penelope is his "madness". That's why I'm saying that Ody x Circe doesn't make sense.
      Calypso forcing Odysseus to sleep with her when he was trapped on her island, that I can buy. But Circe?? Not matter how I look at it, it just doesn't make sense, man. So thematically and plot-wise, I think it's better for the story adaptation to not have that ship happen at all. That's just my opinion, though.

    First things first so that he isn't forgotten there was a little Elpenor on the roof at the end of There are other ways
    I love both gigi and Anniflamma, what I have noticed is Anniflamma design for her godly characters have influences from either animal symbols or their parents, Circe in done for has fins and sun charms since they're using the myth where she is the daughter of Helios and a ocean nymps Perse and in Ruthlessness Poseidon has a lot of horse imagery and at a short point there is an image of a hippocampus
    Her Zeus and Hera both have horns Zeus because one of his animals is a bull to match Heras cow, and Hera is horned because there is a saying "to have horns/ to be horned" if you are cheated on and her dress has peacock feathers

      Another thing I liked in Gigi there are other way (beside Elpenor) was that she blinks at her nymphs to appease the, considering her design is inspired by a panther or a lioness I don't remember, it makes her appear even more feline

      @@cid_of_krebs yeah its interesting that while all of them have some core things are the same they have their own designs that work well with the character, Ximenas for instance in Puppetear plays more into the puppetear aspect and even her having lions

    There's also a very HEAVILY interpreted SA aspect to Ody's situation with Circe and Calypso. Circle is a goddess with far more power over him and we're using his men as hostages and with Calypso it was literally his only choice. Like he had no saying that if he ever wanted to leave.

      I love both their styles but Anni's there are other ways is too much for me in term of displaying SA... I think it's more accurate to the way the musical tells the story, it's really intense and Odysseus is struggling between his loyalty to Penelope and his will to do whatever it takes to get home but it's too much for me
