Oh its totally athena listening in like just from the tidbits of the act 2 songs that jorge have sneaked peak in that athena very much still cares about odysseus more so because during that act she becomes very good friends with telemachus(odys son)
@sunoshecano3837 Honestly, Jay all but confirmed it when a lady on tiktok pointed it out and he reacted to her analysis with joy that someone figured it out
You were kinda right with the guess of the Laestrygonians bcs something that animatics dont use but Jorge confirms is that the ensemble that chants "poseidon" "ruthlessness is mercy upon ourselves" are in fact the Laestrygonians
Agreed! I love both Gigi and Anni’s but always suggest Anni’s due to that more so fitting my personal view on what he looks like and the horse being shown since he is the creator of them and that is so unknown
29:20 "Whatever the wind god's name is" You were so engrossed in the instrumental that you didnt catch Odysseus say "Great wind god Aeolus" I dont mean this in a derogatory way, it is really enjoyable to see someone so passionate and fascinated by something that they become deaf and blind to everything else.
Just wait until you hear me rant during Circe next week and Underworld the next lol . . . . . spoiler alert: I cried during the recording of the Underworld Saga
In Luck Runs Out, when Odysseus confronts Eurylochus privately, it reminded me that not only is Odysseus the captain of their fleet but also their King. Eurylochus is constantly second guessing his orders, and after the incident with the cyclops Odysseus can't have his second in command constently arguing with him in front of their sailors. And it's because Eurylochus is his friend and brother-in-law that he privately puts him in his place instead of blasting him in front of their men. 😅 In Keep Your Friends Close, I enjoy that the wind god Aeolus is both playful and light but also capricious and destruction, fluctuating between helping and ruining everything because thats exactly what the wind can do. The wind will do whatever it wants. Lastly, I love how almost every animator decided that Poseidon is just ragdolling and beating the crap out of Odysseus during Ruthlessness. Storm-bringer is big mad (and not him saying "I am your darkest moment" and "remember me" just like Odysseus said to Polyphemus).
The gods have that "synth" feel in their songs because Jorge wrote the music so that the gods have electronic (meaning magical) instruments, and the mortals are primarily identified with acoustic (non-magical) instruments.
I tried to see if anyone had mentioned this yet to you in the comments, because I think you'd enjoy knowing this. You mentioned in "Luck Runs Out" that voices count as an instrument. You've also noticed that different characters in the musical have different instruments as their main back up. Eurylochus' back up instrument is the choir voices of the crew.
Would definitely recommend checking out AnniFlamma's animatic for Ruthlessness as well; It's got a different take on our man Wet Hades that's more rooted in his other aspects 3:30 ah yes, *10* years
Definitely going to include this in a future video! We actually have plans for a Fan Favorites video where I react to the community's favorite animatics and things from EPIC!
As beautiful as the “luck runs out” animatic is it’s not my favorite since it make it look like Odysseus and Eurylochus have magical powers. The backup singers in the song are the crew, portraying how they’re having this conversation in front of the crew.
Yeah, there’s a couple that came out pretty recently that I feel show the crew being a part of it a little better. Not to discredit this one of course.
Since people started reacting to epic it’s been more apparent that there wasn’t enough animatics. A bunch came out a week or two ago, but most people who have reacted have already reacted to this animatic. Not saying this one isn’t good, but to many people were getting confused
Fun lil' callback in addition to the musical callbacks - I saw you catch the direct "remember me" reference to "remember them" song of the Cyclops saga - but just prior he also parrots Ody's line right back to him when he doxxed himself to the cyclops - "I am your darkest moment". Say what you will about Poseidon, but he absolutely knows how to make an impact 😂
Something you didnt mention so i dont know if you noticed but posiden saying "I am your darkest moment" and "remember me" they reference the song Remember Them as what Odysseus said to the cyclops
First thing first, no, I will not try to change your mind about Aeolus being a fea change into goddess, because I agree x) For the reaction, I know I said it before, but I really love your reaction because where most ppl will talk about the voices and all, you are the only one talking specifically about the instrumentation I saw. There is so much things I did not notice before in the callbacks and all with the instruments. It's amazing. For Ruthlessness, you talk about the callback on the 2nd song with "when does a man become a monster" but there is also a callback to fullspead ahead with the line of poseidon "43 left under your command" at the same time ( the original one being the "600 man... 600 man under your command [...]" that the crew sing in fullspead ahead. This time, no crew, but Poseidon ) For the piano it's super weird, because it was confirmes by Jorge himself that the piano was Athena's instrument, but we keep ear it more and more after my goodbye. In "Luck runs out" my theory was that it's because Eurylychus ( the 2nd in command ) kinda took Athena's role, but in the other son except the classic "Athena is still watching" I don't see what it can be. If I remember correctly, Jorge confirmed that in 2022, so we only had the Troy saga at the time, maybe thing change since that time ? Anyway, I will check if it was 2022 or not, and I will post the link to confirm what I was saying about the piano in answer to this message
Thank you for pointing out some of the things I missed! I will definitely go back and see if I can catch them. Also I agree about the piano inclusion. I bet Jorge changed his mind and it feels more like references to the gods now as compared to just Athena. That's just my theory though?
OMH I LOVE YOUR REACTIONS!!! Also, I wanna add that the animatic of luck runs out that you watched is a bit… romantic? It makes the song a lot more cute and calm than what it actually is. The song itself is a lot more serious and harsh; and it really damages the relationship between Odysseus and the crew. This is also why the crew opened the wind bag
Fr 😭 I was so confused watching it cuz I was like “are they arguing or flirting??” Bc some of their body language is just so,, _intimate._ Kinda funny since Eurylochus is married to Odysseus’ sister, making him Ody’s brother in law
Luck Runs Out: The soldiers have always been the choir/chorus/call/response even if they aren't directly involved. They were directly involved with; The Horse and the Infant, Full Speed Ahead, Survive, Remember Them, and Storm. Indirectly Just a Man and My Goodbye. I don't know when this video was recorded but I prefer the animatic by Jen. This animatic was basically the only one until 2 days ago Keep Your Friends Close: I don't know if you caught on to the second part where the wisps were replaced by the crew, but were also echoed by the wisps. At the end the Crew sings "Storm" while the wisps echo "Full Speed Ahead", gigi's Aeolus has a great personality and arguably a design that complements that persona, beard stroking. However it locks you in to their Ruthlessness video, and I would like to recommend Ximena Natzel's animatic Ruthlessness: I love the animatic made by AnniFlamma. gigi's design is more of a kraken, but I think have a few continuity errors; Poseidon raised spikes to trap them, but are then gone. The end of the last animatic has Odysseus close the bag, but drop/leaves it. Also it's hard trying not to compare and spoil other animatics like the ones I've recommended. All three contend for best in the saga for me, Keep Friends Close and Ruthlessness have call backs but Luck Runs Out stands out. I recommend for the Circe Saga; Puppeteer - gigi, Wouldn't You Like - Ximena Natzel, Done For - AnniFlamma, There Are Other Ways - AnniFlamma. Wouldn't you like is my fave of this saga.
Your analysis for "Keep Your Friends Close" had me speechless! I didn't notice those things when I heard the song. Thank you for sharing your insight and reactions! 😊
Also another thing is he went to war with 600 men and none of them died, until after the war, Cyclops brought them from 600 to about like 550-500 men left them Poseidon brings him down to 43.
i might have misunderstood you but Polities (the guy who sang in open arms and died in the cyclops saga) is a different guy from Eurylochus his 2nd in command. they were kind of opposites in full speed ahead. idk if you were referring to polities when you said Eurylochus sounded different though
Aaa, excellent as always, love the enthusiastic nerding out and the in-depth musical analysis! So many things I never picked up like the time signatures and inversions - and the wrestling between minor and major keys during Luck Runs Out??? Eurylochus in minor, Odysseus in major? I didn't catch that before you pointed it out, that's brilliant.
Eurylochus has always been another person on this concept album, Jorge only voices Odysseus, the Lotus Eaters, Polyphemus, and the Winions (the little creatures with Aeolus). The only time Jorge sang for Eurylochus was in the demos. In the actual concept album he's voiced by a man named Armando Julián. He and Jorge are from Puerto Rico and they met at the Hamilton in Puerto Rico auditions.

Ooo, ocean saga! Haven't finished watching yet, you may address this at some point - Depending on your reaction preferences, maybe after you catch up, or as you please, Jorge Rivera-Herrans has all sorts of "behind the scenes" type information vids up that may be up your alley!
@@sunoshecano3837 Awesome! No rush, obviously. It just seems like you're so invested in the music/composing side of things you'd find some of it fascinating! I know I did. Thanks for sharing that excitement with all of us!
Maybe that's just a misunderstanding on my side but if you were implying that the soldier in Luck runs out sounds different from Open arms, it is because the one in open arms is Polites (Odysseus' best friend, optimistic, first victim of Polyphemus the cyclope), while the other in Luck runs out is Eurylochus (second in command, more pragmatic, wary). Odysseus tries to follow his lost friend's wishes, therefore acting pretty carelessly and Eurylochus tries to push him in the opposite direction
Btw if you didn’t know, (this was confirmed on yt shorts/ TikTok by Jorge) Odysseus’s instrument is acoustic guitar/ nylon string guitar and electric guitar. The electric guitar is played when Odysseus is being ruthless and the opposite when acoustic/ nylon.
I don't know if you've seen the animatic for the cyclops saga yet since they weren't uploaded but when you watch them it becomes much clearer why Odysseus is taking the optimistic stance that he's taking in Luck Runs Out C:
Your analysis is absolutely amazing and novel, you're going into details I don't see anyone else go into and your insight and geekery about both the Odyssey and music theory is very much appreciated. Thank you so much!
Aren't there 4? Eurylochus (Storm "we're gonna shoot for the sky")) Odysseus (Keep your friends "sometimes killing is a must") Odysseus (Keep your friends close "Its treasuurre") Poseidon (Ruthlessness "All I've got to do is open this bag!!!!!") I heard multiple times already that there are "what" so I'm a little confused which one isn't considered a true "what"...
Again a really cool video. I really love your analysis and your takes on things, especially when you're mimicking the instrument! That shows your passion!
Amazing as always and i love how you react to the whole Saga in one video! I don’t mind long vids and honestly think it helps with these to keep the ‘flow’ of the section. Can’t wait to see the last two saga’s reactions from you. (Also as other mentioned highly recommend WolfytheWitch, Gigi, and Anniflamma’s vids for Epic. They do amazing catching and adding things others don’t. And their use of Color, or lack of in some, is a very good touch too)
Also, not sure if you caught it but Poseidon quotes Odysseus own words to him when talking to him in the second half ‘I am your darkest moment, the monster that always draws near’ he said those words to the cyclops before giving his name!
Considering you have videos of you playing some video games. Being a bard who is into greek mythology and all that might i suggest a roleplaying musical game called Stray gods. Its a murder mystery musical game that allows you to make choices both out of and in song. In song the choices you make will determine the melodies and lyrics for each one. Its a blast and the music is wonderful highly recommend checking it out. If anything on your own time if you dont feel like it would be video worthy.
This is a great video, though I'm a little curious where Warrior of The Mind and Cyclops Saga animatics reaction is. I didn't see them on your channel or get notifications for them. Anyways, great video. Can't wait for you to see the rest of the musical and animatics
When you get to the underworld saga, I recommend TheeArteest's animatic for the song 'The Underworld'! It's one of my favorites by far, so good at conveying emotion.
I really like your analysis of this musical, very enjoyable! I have a recommendation/request for you. Death Note the Musical, it's only the first half of the series, but totally worth it for the vocals, lyrics and music.
Hey, so there's a lot of different animatics for Epic the Musical, but I wanted to let you know there's an animatic for Luck Runs Out that's a lot more in line with the narrative: th-cam.com/video/iOa1X-BLPfU/w-d-xo.html Also, I have a definitive playlist for Epic the Musical animatics, which I've curated to be the most narrative helpful animatics imo. If you're interested: th-cam.com/play/PL7JPczqoiNsqUg7AINTJPlhum51YNvnmh.html I hope this is helpful to you! Thank you for your very insightful reactions!
The sexy chibis are masterful and you can't convince me otherwise. Poseidon should have been a sexy chibi. Tiresias should have been a sexy chibi with a haunting thousand-yard stare. Hit the entirety of Epic The Musical with the Chibi-inator 10,000 (this is a joke but I do think that would be hilarious)
We really need a better animation for luck runs out like the quality is good but someone clearly had a bit too much inclunation for a couple that doesnt exist ksjsksjsjaj
As a reminder, my main focus with music is not on lyrics. I know the lyrics have been analyzed and talked about to death. My brain processes lyrics last. As this is a first listen, I focus on instrumentation, melodies, and chord progressions. This really isn't the channel for a story analysis.

also that you have a twitter and have streamed ff7 remake. (i did a whole 130 hours and watched it be played by another streamer as well LOL. needed to double experience and also cry.)
i may doodle your sona for a warm up at some point. 😊
31:05 the sounds💀
Ooo, ocean saga!
Haven't finished watching yet, you may address this at some point -
Depending on your reaction preferences, maybe after you catch up, or as you please, Jorge Rivera-Herrans has all sorts of "behind the scenes" type information vids up that may be up your alley!
We do actually have that planned for after Underworld Saga and our Fan Favorites videos go up! Super hyped for those too!
I can't wait to see to see how you see the next sagas. Please do it soon!
I don't know if you've seen the animatic for the cyclops saga yet since they weren't uploaded but when you watch them it becomes much clearer why Odysseus is taking the optimistic stance that he's taking in Luck Runs Out C:
They are coming out on friday.
@@RubinousVT rejoice \o/
Your analysis is absolutely amazing and novel, you're going into details I don't see anyone else go into and your insight and geekery about both the Odyssey and music theory is very much appreciated. Thank you so much!
As the editor I want this video to get to 420 likes at least! But also I want it to get to 558 for the culture
Ocean saga is jokingly called the "what " saga because at least 3 times What is spoken not sung
Aren't there 4?
Eurylochus (Storm "we're gonna shoot for the sky"))
Odysseus (Keep your friends "sometimes killing is a must")
Odysseus (Keep your friends close "Its treasuurre")
Poseidon (Ruthlessness "All I've got to do is open this bag!!!!!")
I heard multiple times already that there are "what" so I'm a little confused which one isn't considered a true "what"...
Poseidon’s instrument is a trumpet.
I will definitely have to check that out! I love Greek mythology so games like Hades were always a hit to me. It's on my to check out list nowh
Thx for the reaction
This is a great video, though I'm a little curious where Warrior of The Mind and Cyclops Saga animatics reaction is. I didn't see them on your channel or get notifications for them. Anyways, great video. Can't wait for you to see the rest of the musical and animatics
Has he seen the AnniFlamma Ruthlessness animatic?
You mentioned redoing the cyclops saga with animatics will you be watching Mircsy Polyphemus and Survive? I would definitely recommend them!
That video of the cyclops saga animatics should be coming out on Friday!
Here’s the thing….,Poseidon doesn’t care that his kid got hurt(he has like millions of them), he’s mad cause Odysseus didn’t FINISH THE JOB!
Your pal said "Aeolus is just a fae turned into a god, change my mind."
My counter-argument is that fae are gods who have been "demoted" by Humankind.
When you get to the underworld saga, I recommend TheeArteest's animatic for the song 'The Underworld'! It's one of my favorites by far, so good at conveying emotion.
A piano is sign of athena whenever you hear the piano she is watching
I really like your analysis of this musical, very enjoyable!
I have a recommendation/request for you. Death Note the Musical, it's only the first half of the series, but totally worth it for the vocals, lyrics and music.
I will add that to the list! Thank you!
Also he's probably going to looove Wouldn't You Like lol
“Did I call it?!”
After making 50 guesses, sure. Why not.
If you're interested: th-cam.com/play/PL7JPczqoiNsqUg7AINTJPlhum51YNvnmh.html
I hope this is helpful to you! Thank you for your very insightful reactions!
I feel like you need to listen to the song trice over because first time you only listen to music layout, then the lyrics next time.
Everyone uses the gd sexy chibis lol
There weren’t any other options until like…. A week ago xD
Yes this song didn't seem very popular among animators until recently!
The sexy chibis are masterful and you can't convince me otherwise. Poseidon should have been a sexy chibi. Tiresias should have been a sexy chibi with a haunting thousand-yard stare.
Hit the entirety of Epic The Musical with the Chibi-inator 10,000
(this is a joke but I do think that would be hilarious)
@@rainestar6781 'Doofinshmirtz voice' "my SMEGSYCHIBINATORATOR!!1!" lol
(also no hate to the chibis lol)
We really need a better animation for luck runs out like the quality is good but someone clearly had a bit too much inclunation for a couple that doesnt exist ksjsksjsjaj
Cyclops saga animatics?
They're coming on Friday! Don't you worry, my Editor Mala is getting things ready for it!
@@sunoshecano3837 yayyyy!!! Love ur analysis on Keep Your Friends Close btw
Thank you so much!!! It's such a cool song. It's become one of my favorites!
Uhh can u react to comedy skit randy buys a bookshelf from gumtree(from my understanding Australian Craigslist)
Possibly! I normally am more about music stuff but I enjoy a good laugh to two!
PLEASEEEE turn on the captions or at least pause when u have something to say, cuz ur missing a lot of lyrics
As a reminder, my main focus with music is not on lyrics. I know the lyrics have been analyzed and talked about to death. My brain processes lyrics last. As this is a first listen, I focus on instrumentation, melodies, and chord progressions. This really isn't the channel for a story analysis.
But she is a fae turned god though aint she
