I do NAWT approve of the Aphrodite design, I love all of Neal’s designs EXCEPT the Aphrodite one. No hate to Neal, but it’s mainly because I just overall hate Aphrodite designs like that because of how insanely disappointing and even lazy it is, sure the original has her be naked all the time or half naked in all her statues and actual paintings but when making unique takes on their designs for everyone BUT her, the character designer in me always finds it so unfortunate how barely anyone includes any of her symbols or sacred animals. There’s so many various animals, symbols and even TREES linked to Aphrodite but most just give her some skimpy outfit or she’s just straight up naked and it’s so disappointing for me every time. I know one of her things is being the Goddess of Lust, Pleasure and the deed but she’s also the goddess of Love still, her sole thing isn’t the lustful part, the MAIN thing she’s always described as is the goddess of love, she even ships mortals and gods alike trying to make pairings and has made and destroyed couples to make sure she gets an OTP or keeps a NOTP from happening, clearly the love part is still important- if you want a deity solely based on the love thing, we literally have Eros, like- guys come on- 😭 For those curious for whatever reason, here are Aphrodite’s aforementioned symbols, trees and animals I mentioned her having a lot of; Animals - Dolphins, Sparrows, Doves, Swans, Hares, Geese, Bees, Fish and Butterflies! Symbols - Roses, Seashells, Pearls, Mirrors, Girdles, Anemones, Lettuce and Narcissus Trees - Myrrh, Myrtle, Apple and Pomegranate And yet none of these are ever used for her designs in most media and it makes me so sad💔

I really love your perspective on the stuff with Calypso! Your takes are things I haven't seen much elsewhere and they take a way more nuanced stance while not absolving her of wrongdoing; her circumstance doesn't excuse what she did, but it does explain it, and it allows one to feel sorry for her without denying that she was wrong. I understand why people don't like her and I'll never say anyone is wrong for doing so, but it's definitely refreshing to see someone take a deeper look and really understand why she behaves the way she does. I'm especially fond of your take that she's not in love with Ody, she's in love with the *idea* of him, I think that describes the whole thing really well.

To me it seems like Odysseus doesn’t love Calypso even platonically but instead feels sorry for her. I don’t know if I read too much into it but he says he loves her literally right after she sings “I wish you would lie and say”. That paired with him looking emotionless in the animatic makes me feel like he cares enough for her to lie but not more than that

as someone who has been SA'd (a guy, by a guy) listening and seeing some of the animatics for calypso's songs. brought some lost feelings to the surface. and for context. i am fine with everything that's happened. unfortunate yes but i am doing well :P

In Neals animatic. I love these moments when some bullshit happens and Ares tries to protect his family, when Athena attacks them, he covers his mistress with himself(29:36), and when Zeus breaks the earth in anger, he holds Aphrodite in his arms(31:53). Plus, when Zeus attacks Athena, Ares seems eager to help her, but Aphrodite, fearing for him, holds his hand (34:19) (The last may be my fantasy, but that's how I see it, and I like it so much.)

In terms of fight-scenes, I like to believe that, like with each Weapon's physical & sound design, Monty Oum wouldn't go half-way in creating a combative characters without understanding for himself what they can & can't/wouldn't do. 🤓This is just my personal deduction: - Cinder is using Dust weaved in her Dress. V2 - Glynda is using Aura to aim & guide her Semblance, and using Circular-Glyphs for complicated order of telekinesis (i.e. forming a Hailstorm that she can command). - Cinder Uses Layers of Ring-Glyphs to control her Fire-powers to '👍Yes, burn away the telekinetically-controlled debris-snake' and '👎No, do NOT burn the Plane I'm on, or the Pilot.' Still some things hard to figure out; I don't know what the limits & extent of Cinder's Ground-Eruption attack, buuut when she summoned 5, 🤔that was after Ruby shot out 5-6 bolts, so it's like a follow-up based on her or an opponents attack?.....🤷‍♂️Either way, 😊your point Still Stands, as we never got 100% explanation, even with the 1st 'World of Remnant' episodes that purposefully left some details a mystery.

The only thing I wish they all had was each of the "release him"s were directed at Zeus as he watches Athena change their minds, particularly when Athena convinces Hera, just we can see Hera fume upon being reminded what Zeus is like, see her direct her anger briefly at Zeus, and then Zeus's face boil over because he cannot dispute Athena's argument especially in front of Hera.

This might be a bit unusual, but I actually don't like pretty much any of Neal Illustrater's animatics, and think aniflamma's tend to be the best (except occasionally gigi) I just don't like the style, and he doesn't really connect to the Greek myths much and/or add extra stuff that doesn't really fit, while Aniflamma really goes above and beyond linking aspects of the myths and how the Greeks viewed their gods.

One thing I liked about this animatic was Athena almost look like a female Zeus but like younger a bit and I'm pretty sure in some stories she was just a thought made alive instead of actually born, so if I'm true about that fact then it would make sense why she looks like him and not really anything else other than her being female.

There was a time Zeus laid with someone as a bull, but the minotaur was actually from poseidon getting his sacrificial cow stolen, and then cursing the guy who did it (the king)'s wife into falling in love with the same bull. To the point that she had a metal cow made to disguise herself to get action.

What I love so much about Aphrodite is that she is much older than most of the Greek pantheon. Her first roots lie in ancient Babylon, in the goddess Ishtar, the goddess of Love, War, political power etc. .From there she wandered, for lack of a better term, over to the city of Tyre and the Phoenicians and became the goddess Ashtarte, the goddess of love and war. Which is also what the Spartans revered her as, until somewhere along those lines that image changed to her becoming a pure goddess of love, losing the war aspect. This is also mentioned in the Iliad by Zeus iirc. So that is how she became to be who she is nowadays and for most of „modern“ antiquity. And I find that journey incredibly interesting and just find that this makes her so much more interesting as a goddess in general

At the start of anniflammas animatic for god games you can see shes not wearing a necklace but as soon as the gorgon shield head disappears back to hera she has a necklace so shes always wearing medusa and has a shield on her minor detail thats easy to miss but fun to see

So Neal's Ares actually looks like Radahn, especially when Aphrodite gets on his back, it's Shadow of the Erdtree Radahn

Soooo not to be nitpicky, but it wasn't Zeus who created the Minotaur ;^^ While the Bull is one of Zeus' sacred animals, the Minotaur is more Poseidon's doing. Long story short: Poseidon did a favor for Minos to help him when he became king, by letting him borrow *his* bull to show people that Minos had Poseidon's favor. In return, Minos had to sacrifice the Bull at the right time. But the Bull was so good looking, Minos went "you know what, it'd be a shame to waste a good bull like that? I'll just sacrifice something else." Poseidon did NOT like this, and said "you know what, fine. I'll show you." So he asked Aphrodite to help out, and Aphrodite made Minos' wife Pasiphaë fall in love with the bull. She asked the inventor Daedalus for help, and... as they say, the rest is history.

Two things i noticed in Niel's version is that Aries in the fight appears to be inspired by Consort Radhan and tgat Zeus's initial attack kinda lioks like Jupiter

Neal is truly an animatic god. Also aniflamas hera is my favorite hera design but neals god games in general is my favorite

I love Neals Version, because it is actually like a video game with different levels you have to beat in a fight to get to the boss. Apollo shoots arrows at her which she can easily reflect and he doesn‘t put up a big fight. Then Hephaestus comes at her with his mech, which is a bit harder but doable. Aphrodite tries to hold her on a spot and stab her, but she breaks out of it with quick thought, nut then Ares comes in and merges with Aphrodite (almost like an Elden Ring Boss, which I LOVE!) but she can defeat them in the end. Then Hera send a whole army of flying avatars after her and she need a few seconds to defeat them but is successful in the end. And then of course the plottwist, like a surprise second boss in a video game, the fight against Zeus. The other Animatics are also good, but Neal is the only one who really worked out, what Jays vision of an Action game would actually look like, and i love it so much!!!

Fun fact from the comments left by neal! At the end she greeted her dad with open arms!!!

The small detail that I love about Neal's animatic is that all the damage that Athena does to the gigantic cloud form of Zeus actually reflects on his real body. If you take a close look you can see that at the end of the animatic with the hug he has scars on his left arm and his face. We can't see his torso but I would assume that he also has a scar there.
