It uses the same Cirrus Chips, but I have no idea about the rest of the circuit topology.

Any idea if this dongle retains the volume setting after it is unplugged?

Both my Samsung phone and PC remembered it's volume after unplugging and replugging, but I have not tested this with system restarts.
