Their expressionless looks really make the video! Those two "lip-licking" actions are a nice touch too. Wonder if those little moves were added by the models on their own??

This legendary video was one of the most-aired videos on MTV. This was NOT Robert's real band, just models dressed as expressionless moving mannequins. It's actually painfully obvious that none of them know anything about playing instruments if you watch the video closely. He used these same models in a couple of other videos too. Robert was an incredibly talented singer and had been around for more than 20 years, but became a major star when this song was released in 1986. The album version of this song is actually much longer than the one that appeared in this video. Robert would go on to be a member of the supergroup Power Station in the late 80s and early 90s. He died of a heart attack in 2003. He was only 54.

Robert Palmer was from England. ALL of the early British rockers were huge fans of American Blues artists. This is where they got their early musical influences from. So Robert’s voice having “Soul” is no coincidence. He.died in Paris, France, in 2003, from a sudden heart attack. He was 54.

FUN FACT: "Addicted To Love" was originally intended to be a duet with Chaka Khan. The song was made without her because her record company at the time would not grant her release to work on Palmer's label, Island Records. Chaka Khan is still credited for the vocal arrangements in the album liner notes.

The music video (which uses the shorter single version of this song), directed by British photographer Terence Donovan, was one of the most noted of the era. The video features Palmer performing the song with an abstract "band", being a group of female models whose pale skin, heavy makeup, dark hair and seductive, rather mannequin-like expression follow the style of women in Patrick Nagel paintings.
The five models in the video are Julie Pankhurst (keyboard), Patty Kelly (guitar), Mak Gilchrist (bass guitar), Julia Bolino (guitar), and Kathy Davies (drums).
The song entered the Billboard Hot 100 chart the week ending 8 February 1986. The song ended up topping the Billboard Hot 100, as well as the Billboard Top Rock Tracks chart. It was one of the last 45 RPM singles to receive a million-selling Gold certification. It also reached number one in Australia and number five on the UK Singles Chart. "Addicted to Love" became Palmer's signature song, thanks in part to a popular video featuring high fashion models.

Robert palmer was great. He passed a little while back but had a band called vinegar Joe, "never met a dog" is a great song. As well as a trio of songs that all hook together from "sneakin Sally through the alley". "sailin' shoes, hey Julia", sneakin Sally... ". Listen to them in that order they are usually all played together.

Palmer was known for his powerful gritty vocals, with a foundation in a sort of Bluesy delivery; and later in his career for adding a bit of sophisticated style to the rock genre of the mid-80's. He died suddenly of a heart attack, at only 54 years old.
