      The women in the video are models hired to portray a band. The makeup was done to make the women look like manikins to indicate the way some men see all women as "objects" and not individuals (you'll notice the same technique used in the "Simply Irresistible" video).
      ***edit: Stupid me. I named this video when I meant to say "Simply Irresistible". lol

    • @mikkj1
      @mikkj1 3 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      The models all looked bored (S&M? Do we need to talk?). Palmer said, in an interview, that their "look" was a comment on how the media tries to force all women into the same "look". Hence, the same outfits, the same look on their faces, etc.

    So when this video came out - I was over at my best friend's house and he and I were talking about the lovely young ladies in the video (the way teenage boys would) - he remarked that they look like they "wanted something..." just then his older sister came around the corner from the kitchen and said - "yes.... a cheeseburger, she wants a cheeseburger...." I still remember that to this day from almost 3 and a half decades.... Be nice to everyone and stay healthy!

    Robert Palmer was one of the greatest Rock singers ever. He was equal parts Rock, Soul, R&B, and he could croon an Easy Listening tune, too. The man was the total package, and very unique. Please react to his very first big hit "Sneaking Sally Through The Alley" all the way back in 1974, as well as "You're Gonna Get What's Coming" and "Every Kinda People" from 1978, and "Bad Case Of Loving You (Doctor, Doctor)" from 1979. You will NOT be disappointed.

    Robert Palmer, 'Mr. GQ of Pop music world', was a very special kind of person, and was a true 'gent'. He was talking in this song about how the feeling of falling in love could be addictive, and how it takes over your mind. Always loved his music. Hated that he passed away so early in his life. RIP, Robert.❤

    The models were loosely based upon the art work of Patrick Nagel, who is one of my favorite artists. He designed the cover to the Duran Duran album Rio. His most famous work is the woman with sunglasses that was in like every store in the mid to late 80s. Robert Palmer is one of my all time favorite singers. His solo stuff before this (like Bad Case of Loving You and Clues,) and his solo stuff after this (like Every Kinda People) are amazing, and his stint as lead singer of the super group Power Station (that featured 2 members of Duran Duran...how's that for a call back) produced a great album with killer songs. ~Be Blessed

Jim Hendrix and The Who were two acts they supported who rated the Mandrakes highly. In those days he was Allen Palmer. That song was written by a fella named Moon Martin, who I had the great pleasure of seeing open for the Police in 1979-ish. He does his own song quite well. But he’s got a couple of other tunes that deserve listening to: “Bad News” and “Rolene” are standouts. Moon Martin sadly passed away last May. RIP

    Robert Palmer’s “Addicted to Love” - hit No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100 35 years ago. That’s a perfect pop song. A simple beat and a killer guitar riff. Palmer himself, the song’s sole credited writer, who was one of the best British R&B singers of his generation but keeps it relatively low-key here, delivering a suave and soulful vocal that, on the chorus, he practically turns into a percussion instrument (“Ah--to-love”). Even his outfit in the video conveys restraint: Wearing a starched white shirt, black tie and high-waisted black pants, he looks like a businessman whose idea of casual is taking off his jacket. This number 1 song is best known for its brilliantly idiotic video, which features the singer performing in front of five stunning mannequin-like models bearing vapid facial expressions and holding musical instruments that they’re not even pretending to mime convincingly. They can’t dance either, and only occasionally move in time with the song’s rhythm. It’s utterly ridiculous (Palmer’s face throughout the video shows he knows it, too) and absolutely iconic at the same time.
