I've been playing about with this way before they came out with hexa chain. was trying to replicate square grind with a bench grinder. as we over in the pond don't have the Simington grinders thought have thought about importing one👍
I'm going out now to try see how it go's for me, good video great idea 👍 if you can ever figer out the square grind please post be very interesting on the same grinder
I've been doing this to skip tooth full chisel chain for almost 20 years. I guess I missed the opportunity to cash in on it, but I'm not the only feller to do it.
What I see is that the standard round grind the cutter rolls the chip out. Following the curve of the cutter. As opposed to a flat peel like a wood chisel. I'm still experimenting with a square dressed wheel. As always, great video.
Tim Ard sent me a couple of pics showing the profile on the Stihl Hexa grinding wheel. There was some back angle on the same surface I ground flat. There was no mention of the angle of the grinder head. My chain looks pretty close. I'm still going to play around with the angles and see if I can improve. I'll keep ya posted.
@@richardflagg3084 a lot easier than square I’m sure. Well more consistent and that’s my major problem with square. I’m not buying an expensive grinder
Stihl grinder wheel for their grinder has the stone dressed to a v on the wheel. You may be a little steep on the chisel angle. I have some pictures on my TH-cam channel.
Tim Ard has had some chains and files and is one of the most knowledgeable in the business. He probably can answer that one from a professional cutters' standpoint.
I will definitely give this a try! Thanks
Good video will definitely try thanks

Hexa is 65° and has a span where the 2 angles meet is 120° not flat angle on the bottom of the grinding wheel

@@richardflagg3084 I've since got a diamond wheel with a square face. It seems to be cutting a bit faster. Need more testing.
Try a 35degree top angle, I think you will like the result.
Very good tip. I’ve never tried hexa. Just round and square. I’d like to give it a try
Chicken if ya' don't. I really like the way it cuts.

@@cajun3197 I can't justify$$$ it either. Wanted one for a while, but I believe this is right there with it.

If you have a email I can send a picture of the Stihl wheel
Morning Tim! Glad you're here. I'll have another look.
@@ForestApps sawmansc@gmail.com Does the grinding wheel come with a gauge/template to redress the wheel?
@@richardflagg3084 I’m sure there is a dresser tool but I haven’t seen it yet.
@@ForestApps They have a specialty tool for dang near everything. I'm sure it won't be long.
Is it as good for cleaning out face cuts as square?

Good afternoon, tell me, will such a sharpening work on other types of chains, for example on Oregon?
Yes, I've ground this profile on several brands of chain.
@@richardflagg3084Ok, thanks
I love that protractor where can you buy them.
Thanks
I just ordered a cheap one online.
