@@james_crawfordMario Kart 8 Deluxe is a port of the Wii U game and the Booster Course Pass needed the same style of music or it would feel even more out-of-place than it already does.
My goodness… words can’t express how happy this cover makes me but I’m going to try anyway. I LOVE this soundtrack as a whole and of course this song is a highlight. My favorite part about y’all’s version is the recognition of the original’s style and intent. Don’t get me wrong, it’s always awesome to y’all take a song and make it sound completely different from the original, but I think this song proves to me why your versions of Snake Eater, Yoshi’s Island, and Decisive Battle are my favorites. They all sound exactly they way they did in my head when I imagined “what would this be like live?” Granted, SM3DW is live recorded, but they could only do so much while making sure the tracks could loop and weren’t too distracting. You guys absolutely NAILED it and yet again inspire me to keep perusing my bass/jazz/music goals in my life. Thank you so much!
P.S. - if anyone has any recommended reading for jazz arranging/orchestration please drop a reply!

Omg!! Please guys, you need to do Gusty Garden Galaxy from Mario Galaxy. It's definitely one of SM's most emotional songs, and in your hands it would undoubtedly be a delight.
3D World's jazz band sound is iconic, the definitive musical style for Mario in my opinion, so I've been heavily anticipating your take on some of its tracks. Knocked it out of the park, as always.
3D World was the first Mario game I ever played, all the way back when it came out on the Wii U…the memories 😢
My first Mario game was Super Mario Land 2 on the Game Boy in 1993. Now I feel old 😔

When I was in college, I would get really excited for each new insaneintherainmusic cover. And now that I’m working, I get super hyped over each new 8BBB cover! So glad to see video game jazz living on, and it’s so heartening to know that y’all have no intention of stopping after this album. Here’s to many many more incredible jazz covers of video game music!
Oh and also 3D World is one of my favorite Mario soundtracks, so this is especially exciting for me. As a matter of fact, it feels like this entire album is tailor-made to my interests. Can’t wait for the full album to drop!

Another great cover! The animation was really cute, too! I really dig the 8-bit style for all the characters in the 3D world setting.
Andrew Gould is such a great lead alto player. He commands the sax section with authority and style.
I could do with fewer “LOOK AT ME” scoops but he’s got a great sound.

Charlie’s arranging is beyond spectacular as always! He finds such clever little ways to make incredible tunes a whole lot better.
💯% agree! No wonder this guy is fresh off a Tony win for his orchestrations on the Broadway adaptation of Some Like It Hot. It's a dream of mine to meet him in person - just so I could thank him for his work over the last few years with this fantastic group!
I generally am not a fan of big-band style jazz but I always make time for 8BBB - the arrangements are genius! (For vgm jazz The Consouls are my go to band - they did this tune in 2014)

Would you consider a 2nd Channel where you do behind-the-scenes videos showing your process of writing, practicing, orchestrating, performing, recording, and mixing these songs?
I'd love to see the break-down of the process, maybe hear from the person arranging the music, some of the musicians on the parts they had trouble with, and how they fixed parts that didn't work out?
Like... how many takes? How many different sessions were used to create this? What are some of the microphones and techniques used to best capture the orchestra? What are some of the challenges of recording this sort of music? Is it easier now, or was it easier when there were more studios designed for this sort of recording? Is there a special way that you mix for different media, like TH-cam, MP3, Streaming, CD, or Vinyl? Are there songs you've recorded that didn't work out, or are there some you wish you could do but are locked up in ownership rights issues? How about an official soundtrack for a game, or company?
3D world was my first and favorite Mario game, and the music was always one of my favorite aspects of it! I’ve been looking forward to this arrangement so much and you 100% did not disappoint! I absolutely loved it and I can’t wait for the rest of album 4!!

3D World isn't quite one of my favorite Mario games, for a number of reasons, but boy is that soundtrack fucking tight. This track especially has become a quintessential "Mario" tune in my mind, as much as the original Mario Bros theme and Bob-Omb Battlefield. This arrangement is great, too!

This made my day! I've been looking for an arrangement of this song that radiates the same joy as the original, and it turns out that you guys were cooking one up the entire time. I really love the tasteful changes in this arrangement, like the ii - V to the IV that happens in the A section, the nice embellishment on the little countermelody at 0:54, and the Charlie Parker (i think? i need to brush up on my jazz lore lmao) reference at 1:54. This arrangement stays faithful to the original while introducing a bunch of new ideas and incorporating familiar jazz vocabulary. These are my favorite kind of 8BBB arrangements, and while every 8BBB arrangement is fresh and exciting, these ones always feel like they'd be right at home in their respective games.
Sort of off topic, but I've been learning the bass parts of a few of your arrangements (mostly Lonely Rolling Star, because it simply rules) and I have come to appreciate even more how awesome both the arrangements themselves and the performances/recordings are. I saw you mentioned some books on arranging in another comment and I'll be picking those up.
I don't know if there's a large enough audience to make this viable, economically speaking, but I would be super interested in some kind of course or video series where you go through your arranging and orchestrating process from start to finish. Or even some more content where you break down different parts of an arrangement, like the video you did with Adam Neely on Nebula. I personally would be totally down to pay for that kind of content, be it through Patreon, Nebula, or a similar platform. (That goes for your theatre arrangements as well! I'm going to school for theatre/film production with the goal of becoming a composer and I love learning that sort of thing)
