The 8 bit music is composed in harmonic style because the originals were limited to 5 voices such that it was written in baroque counterpoint. This makes it much easier to enlarge the score to whatever instruments you reqlly want to use. This is why SMB is good for learning to use extensive counterpoint without sounding like sousa and learning to read score.

You should check out the version by Japanese band Oquesta De La Luz from the 90s it's got a lot more energy. I heard their version first and so I am partial to it.

This arrangement is incredible, but my ears are trying to make sense of the (forgive me if I'm using improper lingo) syncopation that takes place at 4:27. Anyone rhythmically savvy enough to explain what's going on? I can't tell if the time signature is rapidly changing or if the melody is playing 3 bars of 4 while the rhythm section is playing 4 bars of 3... or I'm way off entirely. Either way, keep making amazing covers 8-bit!!!! Thanks!
