I'm so glad this is something that stuck around. It feels like a proper tribute to these games while also feeling appropriately grand for the final award of the event. My opinion about the Game Awards changes by the year but this is always so good.
Literally, never imagined it would work so well fully orchestraed. I understand why they didn't switch up the beat to the OG 7/4 as to not mess the medley... but, it could've real freaky in the best way
I only just found out that Lena Raine was in the Game Awards Orchestra 2018. Look how happy she is! Playing her award-winning OST of Celsete, alongside Hans Zimmer.
This is one of my favorite moments in all of the TGA ceremonies, and I wish they were able to bring more original composers to perform music for their own games in these performances
Favourite song from each year 2017: Persona 5 2018: Spider-Man 2019: Resident Evil 2 2020: Doom Eternal 2021: Metroid: Dread 2022: Xenoblade Chronicles 3 2023: The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom 2024: Balatro My favourite year is probably either 2020 or 2024
I still think it’s kinda funny how Stray doesn’t have a defined song but instead of taking the intro or the first stage they took a silly quirky song such as “The Way You Compute Tonight” and turned it into a musical masterpiece that could easily transition into Elden Ring is kind of funny. I’m never gonna get over that. Also the Balatro theme is just so good here too
Lorne Balfe is no slouch, though! He does a fantastic job bringing the trumpets into key in the background during the transition. I think he turned a challenging transition into a real highlight
He was always there he only got more camera since that awesome Xenoblade chronicles 3 theme. He also played the score of Ghost of Tsushima promotional orchestra in 2019 TGA.
The celloist at the start is Tina Guo, she is an amazingly talented musician. She has worked in Hollywood for years and mainly collaborates with Hans Zimmer in film scores.
Saw her live with Hans Zimmer a few years back and when she went off on Pirates I was in Awe! She's awesome. th-cam.com/video/P5JplB64m5U/w-d-xo.htmlsi=9VUzEiQxE9-4hksq
@DanAllenGaming Cool, I hope to see her live with Hans Zimmer if they come back to Singapore. She and Hans did perform in my home country 🇸🇬 a few years back when my country was hosting Formula 1.
Yesterday After hearing the orchestra of 2024 i hope someone could have done a compilation of all the other ones and you just uploaded this master piece. So grateful for this. Thank you!
2018 concert has a special place in my heart... There is such variety in each game's theme but they are amazingly recomposed and connected to feel like a holistic performance. Also the games that year just happen to have some of the best and most iconic theme music too!

Thanks a lot for putting this together! There are a few I missed like 2023. My favorites are 2018 and yesterdays (2024) one. Definitely enjoyed 2024 more than any other. Amazing!

i'l admit the transition to astro bot made me smile.... and then my smile went away cause that smile made me have a thought... "Holy crap is this game about to win GOTY?" Side note... for 2023 I got to give it to Zelda for happy vibes.
2024 was probably the best performance overall. Really unique music this year and all really great pieces. The only real exception is Elden Ring. It's my favourite game up there, but they just chose such a weak track, especially when the Balatro theme comes on straight after.

@jackierabbit fair enough, I guess it all comes down if they want to compete for GOTY. Personally I would slip it to this time next year so they don't fall into the same year as all the above.
I loved this years transitions, balatro into astro and wukong was so smooth, the ending part also with FFVII into the game awards theme really transmitted the hype of the moment Since E3 is dead I'm still glad we have a show where games are celebrated by the whole community Ps: I am astrobot 🤖 Ps2: as 🤖 tro🤖 bot🤖
I love Lorne Balfe, but lowkey the first 3 years still hit the hardest . For me, it sounds the most like the themes of the game instead of being intertwined with an already existing melody They bring out the character of each game so well usually but many of the following years lack that secret sauce
Favorite from each year 2017: Persona 5 2018: God of War 2019: Smash Bros Ultimate 2020: Last of Us Part II 2021: Metroid Dread 2022: God of War: Ragnarök 2023: The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom 2024: Black Myth: Wukong
I still think 2020 is the absolute best of these. It has the perfect blend of having each song stand on its own while also expertly weaving them together to make a cohesive composition that seamlessly flows from one to the next. I feel like a lot of the more recent orchestras fail at this. Just look at how the God of War theme was used in 2022 compared to 2018: in 2018’s orchestra it serves as an effective change in tempo, serving the composition itself while also best suiting the needs of what this awesome theme demands. In 2022 they try and use it as the climax, but the song they chose doesn’t really work as a climax. It’s why I find it really baffling they use Metaphor ReFantazio’s battle theme as the very first beat of the 2024 orchestra: it’s the second half of the song! It musically doesn’t make sense to start off the orchestra with it when the theme doesn’t have any buildup to work off of. Idk, am I making literally any sense?
You’re missing the one from 2012 with mass effect 3, the walking dead, ac3… but that was the Spike Video Game Awards so it probably doesn’t count. But it was the first time they did this.
2018’s lineup will always be the most “definitive” GOTY orchestra because: You have a mountain climber surpassing obstacles both physical and mental, an assassin rewriting history with their blade, a father defying the will of the gods, a hunter slaying powerful monsters, an outlaw staking claim in a lawless frontier, and a superhero bringing justice to a sieged city. So many different genres, all united under one fantastic orchestra!
Man, seeing Pedro Eustache performing in the GOTY orchestra is such a treat. Absolutely loved his musical performances in Dune. Astro Bot for 2024 hits the same emotional notes that Animal Crossing did in 2020. Genuinely very sweet musical moment. ❤

I did prefer when the themes were more pronounced, instead of melding with the TGA theme. Seems like a more appropriate homage than putting the game awards theme in focus. It also offers more variability in instruments and overall sound.
"Switching to your secondary is faster than reloading."

Flute Guy would have both a primary and secondary Hunting Horn if he were to play Wilds
