Im 40, served 12 years in the army, 8 in war zones. And I lifted weights and carried around 100lbs of gear for years. My back, knees and ankles were all in pain constantly. I quit working out over and over again because I hated the constant pain.
4 weeks ago I decided to try yoga, and now Im doing this video 5 times a week, mon thru fri and I feel better then I have since I was 20!!
Adrienne your the best, thank you so much for this video and I wish you all the best in life.

this video is from 2014. We're in 2018. so i thought it'd be a little silly to leave a comment. but then i scrolled down the comments and realized your videos from 4 year ago or more keep helping people that, just like me, are trying new habits, looking for health and harmony.... for that... thank you. your channel is amazing.

So this is my first attempt at yoga. I don't really want to join a class..there's people there and I don't do well with crowds..So I decided I'd try it online. So in with the search, this was the first video I found. So I gave it a shot. And I gotta say, holy crap I felt defeated. I am a little over weight so some of the position would just simply not work for me because of my gut. I did the 40 minutes and came the end doing the corpse I actually cried a bit. I'm not quite sure why, probably just the stress from feeling like I'm failing. Or the frustration of being a bit over weight. So a few hours later I figured, well she is healthy and skinner than I am, maybe I should look into over weight yoga or someone with a body type similar to mine. And I have to say, after like hours of searching. I'm coming back here. I like how you explain things. You're not stressing me out or anything like that. The stress I was doing was just my own ideas of what I should be and think I am not. I'm going to try sticking to this. Thank you for these videos. I think they will help me quite a bit.

Don't feel like you have to be perfect at first. And if there is a stretch you cannot do yet don't force it. Also remember that there should never been sharp pain. So if you experience that stop.
Also I like think about it like this, do not think you failed because you can't do them like her, think how you succeeded in trying and how you are making better decisions about health :) also remember she's been doing this for forever! She didn't start out perfect either!
Hope you don't give up! And I hope you reach your goals.

Ziautu I'm fairly fit, have no gut anymore and have previously done yoga for a few years, but not in a long while. This is for beginners, sure, but all of these poses are in teacher trainings I've witnessed too. Modify what you can't do, and just do what you can. :)

I find that focusing not on the big picture, which brings pressure to do everything right at once, but the small steps of improvement, which brings (perhaps smaller bursts of) joy far more regularly. When I feel frustrated, instead of judging my performance or self by saying, "Oh, I did poorly," or "I'm/my body is bad because I didn't meet my expectations," I will myself to let go of judgement and say instead, "I feel frustrated because I want to improve. Now what do I want to try to do just that?" I also accept that there will be obstacles in the process of learning (because how much more dull and difficult it would be to see improvement if it came without struggle?). This could mean looking for what you suggested or trying again while being kind to your learning body and self by recognizing when you're putting pressure on yourself, deciding if it's helping, and if you want to continue applying that pressure.

Today is 7th April of 2024 and I performed this yoga practice for the first time. I've been doing 10/20/30 minutes of yoga practices for the past one month and half so when I stumbled upon this beginners playlist I decided to give this video a try. What I've discovered that most of the positions I've learnt from my previous practice but still there were some new ones. And I've done a pretty good job per my satisfaction. It feels so good to move my body intentionally and become stronger with each practice. Thank you Adrienne ❤

A great video for a beginner to hatha yoga like me. Hopefully, your videos will be enough to get me started with a regular practice without having to join a studio. Thank you.

I tried yoga last week but the instrutor was too stressful so I decided to search for classes on youtube.
I just did this begginers' class and in the middle of it I started crying. I think it was on the child pose. I don't know why, nothing sad happened to me or anything during the past years but I think it was stress being released. I suffer from generalized anxiety, last year I even had a seizure and ended up on the ER. I've been a lot better now with medication and exercise, but never tried yoga.
I just ended this class and I am so surprised! I don't feel the usual stiffness on my shoulders anymore. To be honest I am surprised with how light my body and mind feels after only 40 minutes of yoga. I will keep doing these online classes and even look for a new instrutor. Thank you.

So,after a week of yoga for beginners (20 mins), I moved on to this and found some of it a slight struggle. Second day now on this workout and Ive managed to balance better and my breasts and tummy didn’t inhibit me as much as when I first started. My posture has improved exponentially. Don’t be discouraged, take it day by day and you will slowly notice the changes in your body. Movement will become easier. I’ve tried everything from the gym to a personal trainer and I can honestly say I’ve found exactly what I needed.

I could only make it 30 minutes before I was feeling sharp pain and my body was telling me to stop. I get dehydrated easily though, so 30mins is actually a really long time for me! I can easily do this regularly until I can make it through the whole video. My chiropractor recommended this TH-cam channel. I love it!
Edit: Made it all the way through on Day 2!

I recently started testosterone and my muscles are growing very quickly. I wanted to start doing yoga to learn more about my changing body and to help stretch my growing muscles. My girlfriend recommending this channel and this video is by far my favorite. I've been doing this for 2 weeks and I already feel myself getting stronger and more flexible. Thanks Adriene.

Thank you so much for your effort!

I survived my first yoga class. I am a former gymnast and the yoga woke muscles up that haven't been asleep for years. At the end of the video while in the last pose laying on my back, I stayed there for about 20 minutes exhausted. Now, my whole body is vibrating. Look forward to next session.

Adriene, it's been several years since I practiced, so I stumbled here for your videos for beginners to start fresh. This is my 5th day of 7, and I am so incredibly grateful for your style of teaching. I've always hated yoga DVDs bc I never felt a connection to the "instructors." Thank you for your "realness" in helping motivate me to work with my body again! :)

    I'm from Brazil.
Today, i was in my art class on college, and the follow dialogue happened:
Me: Oh, gosh i'm aways breaking my thinks.
My teacher hears and she says:
"You should learn some yoga. I do It online . I'm watching this girl, her name is..."
Me: *thinking "Oh shit, she's gonna say Adriene, she's gonna say Adriene, my freaking god. SAY IT"
    Teacher: *"....Adriene, she's awesome"
And we hold hands. Just to feel how awesome this channel is.

I've been doing this almost every day for about two weeks and it really has made a difference. What I thought I could never do (my wrists, my knees) doesn't seem to be a problem after this very short time. I feel myself getting stronger, more flexible, and my body seems more connected. After getting a little better at this one, I wonder what is the next step to move on to? This has been a blessing during this lockdown for me. I'm over 65 and don't feel safe going to the gym for classes anymore.

Your videos are amazing. I have watched a ton to find an instructor I can relate to, and you are the ONLY one who is truly relatable. Your focus on the viewer's (and your own) body experience and foundation is amazing. It is so clear that you are not in it to show off your perfect postures, etc. I love your realness and the fact that you don't focus on perfection but on integrity instead. Thank you for being so authentic and fun!

I just finished this video, thanks to my sister that recommend it to me. I'm not a very flexible person, so yoga has always been awkward, clumsy and hard to me. I've tried it many times but always ended up giving it up, since It made me feel that I was not only terrible at it, but that I was never going to get it. I must say this is the actual first time I felt comfortable at yoga class. Thank you so much for giving detailed explanation for every movement, so that people like me could also enjoy yoga. #manythanks
