I still think this design felt the highest end of all the Pixels. The all metal just felt SO nice and the slight wedge shape was a great solution for making it easy to hold and avoiding a camera bump.

Still my daily driver.... for a few more weeks. I'll be replacing my OG Pixel XL with a new Pixel 6 Pro. Just returned from a road trip through Yellowstone, Montana, Idaho and Wyoming where my XL was my camera for all the incredible scenery and wildlife. I'll miss the lifetime, original size/quality photo storage, but not much else. Mine still holds an all-day charge, is in near mint condition and has never suffered any hardware issues whatsoever. Not worth selling, so I'll probably just return it to its OG packaging and tuck it away to pull out every now and then for those reminiscent feels.

I'd highly suggest against just packing it away for storage. Battery health is affected if you keep it totally discharged for long periods of time. Keep the battery charge between 20-80%.
I kept my older phone in such a way and the battery health deteriorated due to being completely drained.

I had the XL black model, I was worried about battery life and design, but the smaller ones in blue and white ended up looking a lot nicer to me when I saw it in person. One quirky thing that I liked about it looking back was that the fingerprint scanner size is actually larger than the newer pixel models (compared to my P3 and P5). It wasn't faster or anything, but I remember being able to unlock my phone with just the tip or side of my finder.

Seeing older phones like this makes me nostalgic for a time I never really felt present in. 2016 I was 16 sure, but I can't really think of anything that I did during that time that was noteworthy. I think I had the iPhone 4S still at that time, and I didn't really pay attention to evolving tech past games. Owned an OG pixel. Still have it in my drawer. Stopped using it about three years ago after it stopped turning on. Been using a pixel 3 since then. Waiting for a pixel 6.

I got the Pixel when it was released. After 2 years I noticed the burn in of the navigation buttons and the battery was basically dead. It was still under warranty, so I got a refurbished one as a replacement. I handed this one down to my father though (who uses it to this day) because I got myself the brand new Pixel 3 XL. I have been using that one for 3 years and it's still in perfect condition. I will sell it soon, as I got the Pixel 6 Pro 10 days ago. Pixel fan from the beginning.

I would still consider using my pixel one in 2021 and in the future too, I think I love it so much I would even consider using it over a new flagship of today.

I think the design is underrated because it's understated. Clean, minimalistic, the bottom bezel looks fine too, it gives its own style to have a bottom space that is not cluttered, just plain, clean. I still have mine, used it for four years; it did everything I needed it to do. The battery at the end was... as expected, but still tolerable. Unfortunately Bluetooth started malfunctioning, which is one of the problems this phone had (could have been due to a drop as well). Besides that, these phones had problems being super slippery; if you had them in a case their coating still peeled and chipped. Camera was great but many units had edge blur. Apparently there was a revision later which modified back glass shape to fix that. Also, when it came out the immediate issue with it that was noticed by reviewers was camera picking up sun glare. Despite it the issues listed and it not being as flagship as others and packaged with random extra things, I thoroughly enjoyed it; it has served me well as a primary phone and now it works well as a secondary one.

Nice vid man! You did the original justice! I'm still dailying it! Really! the battery is like 30-40 % of it's original strength so that's not to great. But it still works. And that's actually after only having it since the fall of 2018. But I find it to work better than fine, not just for basics. TH-cam at 1440p no stutter or anything. The old ram of only 4gb is quite annoying since you can't onpen more than like 3 or 4 apps before it starts to close them down and so you might lose what you are writing or cutting and pasting between two apps, but other than that. Totally happy! I mean the camera app even got a rudimentary dark mode now, which works surprisingly well!👍 And hey, those speakers are perhaps not anywhere close to as full sounding as the more proper ones that were already introduced on the Pixel 2 and refined further on the pixel 3, not to mention gaming phones today. But they were really clear. Like for podcast I still prefer this speaker above the Sony Xperia 1 ii, which sounds crazy, but there's some strange vibration resonance that slightly clouds the sound more or less depending on what audio you play on it. Some music you just can't listen to. Though this is very rare I'll have to say. Maybe it's just the unit I got, don't know. Because the thing is that it also got that vibrating function to sorta imitate bass thumps so, maybe that's why? Anyhow, the win and absolute deal breaker for me in 2018, when I was looking at the Pixel 1, 2 and 3, was the headphone jack. Can't be without it. And the Pixel phones in general where really expensive on launch in the Nordic countries of Europe. Like the Pixel 3 went for something like 1600 USD. So not to even think about.
I also reasoned like this. Okay, so between the three Pixel's, the screens are about the same size, the same PPI (and quality more or less), the camera is pretty much exactly the same hardware, though the image quality and results, really stepped up a notch on the Pixel 3 (no pun intended ; ) and night mode was introduced, which was a game changer. But essentially, I could might as well buy the Pixel 1 and then go for the XL for 1/3 of the price of a Pixel 3 regular. And I also couldn't stand that bathtub notch on the XL so, I only had the small option and then the choice was easy. But why not the Pixel 2 XL? Well I did consider it, but it was more than twice the price, and it lacked the headphone jack, and that was way more important than better speakers, which, sure, were in stereo as well. But with the blue-shift and burn in problems on the Pixel 2 XL in particular, I felt even less of an inclination towards the Pixel 2 compared to the Pixel 1. Come to think of it, I don't even think the regular Pixel 2 had the problem since it was made by LG rather than HTC, which made the XL version. And so the regular had a different screen. And this whole two company thing Google did back then, I still don't get to this day, coz I find it really odd to be honest. Like why did Google hire two different companies to make two different sizes of the same phone model???😳 A question I still haven't had a proper answer to until this very day. Anyhow. The Pixel 1 XL had it all going for it as I saw it, apart from the speakers. But like I said, the headphone jack was not only much more important, but a deal breaker for me. Oh, and that 16:9 screen? Ho-ho-hooow! Not a minus by any means in my book at least. Coz until this very day, youtube vids are almost all, still in 16:9. Which means that if you have any later pixel, your actual screen size getts smaller and by quite a lot compared. The Pixel 2 already had a 18:9 screen, and the Pixel 3 18.5:9. And this is a very overlooked fact. Coz I can tell you that the Sony Xperia 1 ii that I got has a 6,5 inch display. Yet the actual image is nonetheless quite a bit smaller than the Pixel 1 XL which is only 5,5 inch. That should tell you that the aspect ratio, not only is something to really keep in mind, but can be down right ruling on how big image you'll end up with when consuming media in the end.
Here's some specs from gsmarena just so you can compare:
    *Sony Xperia 1 ii:*
    OLED, 1B colors, HDR BT.2020
    6.5 inches, 98.6 cm2 (~84.0% screen-to-body ratio)
    1644 x 3840 pixels, 21:9 ratio (~643 ppi density)
    *Pixel 1 XL:*
    AMOLED
    5.5 inches, 83.4 cm2 (~71.2% screen-to-body ratio)
    1440 x 2560 pixels, 16:9 ratio (~534 ppi density)
    *Pixel 2 XL:*
    P-OLED
    6.0 inches, 92.6 cm2 (~76.4% screen-to-body ratio)
    1440 x 2880 pixels, 18:9 ratio (~538 ppi density)
*Pixel 3 XL: (I know I said that I didn't consider the XL due to the horrid notch, but I just include it here to make the comparison fair)*
    P-OLED, HDR
    6.3 inches, 100.3 cm2 (~82.8% screen-to-body ratio)
    1440 x 2960 pixels, 18.5:9 ratio (~523 ppi density)
    *Pixel 3 (regular):*
    P-OLED, HDR
    5.5 inches, 76.7 cm2 (~77.2% screen-to-body ratio)
    1080 x 2160 pixels, 18:9 ratio (~443 ppi density)
    *Pixel 4 XL:*
    P-OLED, 90Hz, HDR
    6.3 inches, 98.0 cm2 (~81.3% screen-to-body ratio)
    1440 x 3040 pixels, 19:9 ratio (~537 ppi density)

Got the OG Pixel XL right after release and loved it so much that switching phones around 3 years in was hard, even with flagship array of cameras on the Oneplus 7T Pro I found myself extremely disappointed comparing with the years older Google Pixel. I have my sight set on the Pixel 6 Pro, as since the release of the OG model, for the first time I feel excited about the new model, not disappointed.
