I've been waiting for this bike review for a while, because I bought one last October. The review is excellent. Mines just had it's first service, 600 miles, £120, now I can properly cane it. The biggest surprise for me was how a bike with plenty of grunt and good handling can be everyday friendly. Filtering, yes, town riding yes, terrifying speeds...fxxk yes. The K5...modernised of course, is the holy grail of engines and is spot on, and basic rider aids are enough not to spoil the riding experience. That quickshifter though is worth its weight in gold...I can't think that quickly. I've tail tidied mine, removed rear foot pegs and fitted bar ends. It actually looks more aggressive, if that's even possible. Downsides, confusing and hard to see screen, the plastics under the pillion seat look cheap and the 1000 logo is to small. If you've spent the extra buying a litre bike people need to know. As for the subjective headlight unit, its like nothing I've ever seen, its a brave move on such a great bike, , but maybe thats the point, so I'm OK with it, and for 11k I'm most certainly OK with it.
Well said mate. My missus just got an 07 Z1000 which has a retuned version of the 2000-2003 ZX9R engine. It was a very good price and it is an absolute ROCKET! Will sit at 30mph in 6th and if you roll it on ot picks up smoothly AND hard. Id quite like to have a go on one of the new GSX's just for the experience and the fun of it. Great value for money!
Thanks for another good review. I’m glad to see the Suzi staying with 4-cyl while many have retreated to the cost savings of parallel twins. For my money you can’t beat the smoothness of a four. Thanks again.
Cheers for another good quality review. With all the current obsession with the hyper-naked class (a genre of bikes I've never quite got), its nice to see Suzuki turning out a secent bike which, in the hands of most riders, is probably 95% as capable as the current offerings from Ducati and KTM but at about 60% of the price. There's a few aspects of the looks I'm not sure about, but then, most of the Hyper-naked's wouldn't win any beauty competitions. As far as the headlamps are concerned, there seems to be a trend at the moment for manufacturers thinking that they've got to do something new and radical with headlamps, when round ones have served us perfectly well for decades.
Coincidentally rode out to my local Suzuki dealer yesterday to take a look at this and the faired GSXS1000GT, must say both look fantastic and sound great, value for money too, Cheers Andy.
Great review. When you did the walk round I thought the bike had been sprayed with mud rather than it being part of the panel design. I agree it doesn't really work. I would be forever trying to clean it off 😁
I agree with you on that front end the lights look okay but the instrument panel looking from the front of the bike looks a bit lost. I like the look of the 1000gt version. For the money needs a few more bells and whistles I think great review as always
I was fortunate enough to have one of these for a few days last year, and really impressed with the engine and handling, especially when you consider the price and a 3 year warranty! The quick shifter and the blipper is one of the smoothest i have ever used. I agree with regards the camouflage look on the panels, for me it doesn't work, but i guess that's a personal thing, similar with the headlights, but really worked well at night. After riding this i actually ordered the GSX S100GT without the Luggage, which i thought was unbelievably even better value and hopefully suits my preferred riding position better than the naked version, due to a long term right knee injury.
I think there's a good reason for sticking with LCD displays: The majority of TFTs are rubbish in bright sunlight. Me, I even think that for most purposes good old dial ones still are the best choice. The old nick name of "Mouse's cinema" for the small screens still says it best, I guess. Once you know the instruments, you don't even really have to look at the dials any more, you see the positions of the indicators from the corner of your eye and can stay focussed on the road.

My third gen sv650 has a similarly textured panel in the same place. It’s the only spot that has that texture and serves zero purpose. It’s too far forward for grip and adds nothing to the looks
Hell, I thought that plastic panel had serious damage until he explained it was deliberate. Looks like the first stop on the way home from the dealer is a hardware store to buy a can of spray paint to fix it.
Excellent review I really enjoy your professionalism. I am in the process of purchasing a 2022. I also like your video when you read through the motorcycle newspapers cheers.

Great vid as always! Hear nothing but good things about this bike, same with other Suzukis, but let down by its looks, same with other Suzukis… the only Suzuki I really like the look of at the moment, just in terms of appearance, is the VStrom 250. Looks are subjective though, I’m sure there’s loads of people who will really love the looks of the S1000.
It seems an awesome motorcycle... Personally, I love the headlight, but get why others would not be a fan. I very much hope I can grab a demo on one soon... Looking to replace my Gixer 750 🙂
Great video as always. Heated grips are available as an option. The pre order ones in Oz you got the heated grips included my Blue one should be here in a few days. They have just been released in Australia.
Regarding costs. Where I live the GSX-S1000 is not a bargain at all, Here in the NL the GSX-S1000 costs 15.000 euro's (all inclusive) By comparison a Yam MT-09 (non-SP) and the Kawa Z900 are just under 11.000 Euro. Don't really think those two bikes are lesser bikes than the GSX-S1000. I do like how it looks, not keen on the 'golden' USD forks, looks just cheap imitation of Ohlins imho. I already saw a comment on the GSX-S950 with 95HP. Where I live the GSX-S950 costs 11.000 euro, that's quite a bit less than the 1000, but not only does it have less HP, it also has some lesser spec components on it. I personally think that the Yam MT-09 (non-SP) en the Kawa Z900 offer better value for money than the GSX-S1000. Suzuki makes excellent bikes, but they really have to up their game when looking at the competition.
It does look better in the flesh, the blue one is nice, but the grey, which some say looks like primer! does it for me. As you mention, that LCD screen needs to be a TFT. Did think you were subbing as a fast food delivery rider though!
I owned the faired GSX1000f but hated it as the throttle was so snatchy that on rough roads it was impossible to keep a steady throttle position. A throttle tamer helped but not enough as the bike was un-ridable in my opinion as when you hit a bump the tiniest movement of your right wrist resulted in a severe reaction of the fuelling. Is this bike any different? Have they sorted this issue please?
I think for $11,299 (US) there is no better value for 150 hp, and I’m sure it’s a blast to ride and good quality. And the blue wheels are sharp, I’m bias because my DRZ-SM has blue wheels. But that front end, good lord… that’s a face only a mother could love! I know looks are subjective but wow.
Put fat bar conversion on my gsxr 1000 k6 no mods to the body work and does the job for me low mileage,, love the motor suzuki would like the gxs with the panniers if I'd more money 💷💷💷😊😊😊😊😊😊😊☘️☘️☘️☘️☘️From Northern Ireland great video
had a test ride on gt version - really impressed with engine and fueling - nice size fot 5' 7'' and super nice quickshifter - sat on one of these and really liked the compactness and short wheelbase - i bet you could really progress - a B-road delight
Suzuki owner here, that engine is a wonderful thing in an economic package. My money would be in the GT version that gets a few more gadgets, same engine though
I'm not a fan of the euro 5 cat gubbins under the engine.although it's stainless the welds still seem to gain some rust over time. So I sprayed mine with mat black stove paint.. Its disappeared now
Bloke, thank you kindly for a cold damp ride on our behalf. Do you know how many times you(and others) have said how looks are subjective and the sentence has washed over me? Until now! When the mt07 & 09 came out, I heard time and again of the genius of the machines. They really rewrote the rule book and fair play to Yam for it. But.....and I mean but with a capital BU.......those front abominations that someone decided were a good idea for a light, totally wrote the the entire machines off(and still do) for me. Shame......great machines that I will never even contemplate buying, purely based on the looks. Fast-forward to this machine and Suzy do the same trick. Except, I am totally baffled to admit that Suzy have done very similar with this headlight.........and I absolutely love it.......who'd have seen that coming?! It really is a stand-out feature for me that, amongst the other positives you mention, has me seriously delving into my finances to assess whether I could put one on my drive. Hence now, all the times folk have said looks are subjective.....I really do get it properly, now. There's nowt as queer as folk, eh chap?! Looking forward to your longer term comments, shortly........(erm, I mean in the next few days/weeks.......I wasn't personally calling you, 'shortly'........honest.....😳) !! Keep smilin, geezer
The engine on this is a peach, but I think for the money, I would have to go for the GT variant, between looks, cornering ABS and Cruise the GT is just a better option for a long term bike. That said, this little guy (pffft little) would make a first rate commuter. One thing that caught my eye instantly, and it may just be me, but does it look like someone was practising their welding on those frame rails? Maybe it was just the way it came out on camera, but those look mahoosive to me in relation to the rail itself 😀
To me the front of it looks like the bike has been ridden into something stationary and the garage are just showing you the damage after you got out of hospital and before some insurance claims go in. Each to their own though.
Well done Suzuki made a great road bike at a great price headlights are like marmite love them or hate them I don’t mind them . The Blue looks great could do with a headlight screen and tail tidy then it would be finished . Andy when you doing a Ducati street fighter v2 review . Let’s hope for some better weather so we can get out and enjoy keep up the reviews good to watch them cheers buddy
The pcp on my SV650 finishes this year and have no clue what I’m getting next. The gsx-s 1000 is on the very varied list, along with the z900rs the mt09sp the street triple rs and maybe the new xsr 900. Don’t like the seat they’ve put on it though Any plans to test that bike ?
Genuinely considering a 1000cc naked as my next bike, don't see any need for 200bhp and a £20k price tag so this bikes definitely on the radar but in terms of styling I'm not quite sure and I'm currently leaning more towards the cb1000r as it's not aesthetically 'challenging'.
Definitely a lot of bike for the money. Gotta say I like the headlights, but it'd be a dull world if we all liked the same things. The camouflage panels look like a homemade temporary repair, but other than that, it looks like a good 'un. I agree about the coloured wheels too - very nice.
I’m not even that old but struggled to get my leg over this without dislocating my hip! The rear cowl is very high for a 5’6” chap. Nice bike, but I agree, not keen on the “Dr Who” front end.
Your comment about high reving to overcome the hill holder underscores a problem I've noted on every BMW riden. First gears are always too tall. First gear should get the cycle easily moving and overcoming inertia to remain at rest. With 6 speeds there is plenty of space to lower first gear.
TMF! Thanks for producing another great review, I ended up buying a Katana 2020. I know these bikes are very similar but since you've spent time with both how different do you think they are?
Great stuff, it might not be up there with the hyper nakeds, but on the rd nobody is going to leave you behind on this. Good bike, Great value.. OK looks.
I’m not a fan of the headlight arrangement either. I have a 2011 Z1000 with the headlights mounted horizontally and it always looks like I have a bulb out. I guess stacking them vertically solves that problem.
For me the GSX S1000GT looks so much nicer, more practical with negligible weight difference. It’s not the fact that the headlight is stacked, but that all the fussily-shaped bits of black plastic around it make it look like it’s missing a lens cover. I don’t mind the forged carbon - at least it’s not huge panels. I miss bike manufacturers being a bit more adventurous so the blue wheels look great.
Nice fair review. I really like it, although not in this colour. Both the other options are much more flattering imo, although I like the headlight design regardless. Be interesting to see how useful it is as night but I'm sure you'll get to that. The display is a bit disappointing but not a deal breaker for me & if you turn it up to max brightness it's not too bad supposedly. I genuinely think it's one of the best value bikes on the market at the mo & I'm definitely considering it. Looking forward to more content from you on it.
@@marksimpson5218 Yes & no imo. It would've been easy & they really should've (& probably will at some point) but they've built the GSXS down to the lowest price possible which is it's USP in this category. Plus a non-premium road going naked really doesn't need one where as the GT is an out & out tourer gunning for the Kawasaki & does need a TFT to compete & be able to offer sat nav & all the toys etc.
Nice looking bike, except, as you and many others have said, those front lights look odd, but probably only as they are different. I'd suggest putting a single headlight and with the saving, heated grips as standard, then in that price range it could be right up there. Love the colour too, but would a toss up with that or the black for me. Can't wait to see the indepth, can we live with this bike video.
I agree with you Mr Flyer the grey colour of the 2022 Suzuki gsx s1000 is a lot nice saw one online very cool. Seat height is a bit big 810 mm. However it does look a great bike. Can’t wait to see more reviews on this like the lights etc. Ps. Glad you got your Royal Enfield interceptor back.
I'm in agreement with you on all you've said here, that camo looks odd. However Suzuki have always been up there with the best of the Japanese bikes but at a cheaper price point hence the simple led gauge, always good value for your hard earned though. 🙂👍
Hi Andy Liked the video and am looking forward to your long term review. I believe the honda Cb1000r is the bikes main rival. Of the two bikes which do you think is best? The two bikes have very simular specifications. The Mt10 is different due to its cross plane crank and the s1000r is much more powerful. Regards Chris
Nice bike and nice first ride review but I’ve recently watched your excellent review of the Yamaha MT10 which I’m considering. It’s clear from your overall tone which bike is more fun, which to me is the whole point of this class.
@@randomblades I owned a 18 plate R (with no unusual vibrations) for two years (now ride a S1000RR) and have ridden the new one. The vibes were largely cured in 2015 and then additionally reduced again in 2017. I have ridden a couple of older ones that had awful vibrations between 5-6000rpm and for earlier models it was a big problem although oddly it didn't affect every bike! It was/is fairly easily solved with either after-market bar end or steering damper. If you go for a ride and want to test it out, it normally happens around 5-6,000rpm if it's going to happen! Happy hunting!
@@LeeXRV Thanks for the info! How are you finding the rr in comparison? That was another consideration but slightly concerned about comfort levels on longer rides, and I’m sure that extra power isn’t really needed for the road. Nice to have though. I believe the new one is comfortable.
@@randomblades I love the RR, it feels wild, makes a superb noise even with the stock can but is very different to the single R. The sports bike position and eagerness to turn in took some getting used to but it's brilliant really and I do love it. I commute on it (outside of COVID times). I would suggest the single R is probably a better road bike though, sitting up gives you a better view, it feels more relaxed/stable and another downside of the RR is the insurance is massively more expensive than the single R. My insurance went up by about 50% for the double R. The other problem with the double R is really it's just far too fast for British roads, if you hit the rev limiter in 1st you'll be doing nearly 100mph. I'm not advocating this but if you look at youtube channel (Gizmo S1K) you'll see how crazy it is when ridden hard. I do love it but need to keep my license so I definitely do not ride like he does! On both though I love the comforts they have (heated grips, cruise control, quick shifter and the electronics package). The Single R uses the same base engine as the RR but without the wild cams/ECU changes. The other thing is the Single R is arguably too fast anyway for our roads (Baron Von Grumble covers it in his video titled BWM S1000R Naked Review) which is old(ish) but worth a watch!
Nicely done TMF. A nice bike, pity about the washing machine spares front end although you don't see it riding from behind. I'm sure I've heard that set of words said before.....

Looks are subjective though, I’m sure there’s loads of people who will really love the looks of the S1000.
Yes there have been a few comments here saying that they like the looks…
The K5 1000 inline four engine is a lovely engine, loads of power and grunt. The GT is a big seller for Suzuki considering the price, its a bargain.
I knew you wouldn't like the lights 😀 I quite like them something a little different but have to agree with you on the camo plastics
Well it’s all a matter of personal taste!
It seems an awesome motorcycle... Personally, I love the headlight, but get why others would not be a fan. I very much hope I can grab a demo on one soon... Looking to replace my Gixer 750 🙂
Wish it had a better rear shock.
Great video as always. Heated grips are available as an option. The pre order ones in Oz you got the heated grips included my Blue one should be here in a few days. They have just been released in Australia.
Congratulations on the new bike Murray!
Yes I think you’re right….
Great review!, Would you take this over the r1250r as your daily ride?
Err, I don’t think so….
It does look better in the flesh, the blue one is nice, but the grey, which some say looks like primer! does it for me.
As you mention, that LCD screen needs to be a TFT.
Did think you were subbing as a fast food delivery rider though!
I have one, bloody lovely !
Good first look video again TMF.
Yes as far as I could tell the throttle response was great…
@@TheMissendenFlyer thank you
Who styled those headlights? Optimus Prime?
how do you find your HJC helmet mate ? is it a rpha11
Yes it’s the RPHA11- one of my favourite helmets…
Other competitors are the Kawasaki Z1000, and BMW R1250R 👌😁
I think for $11,299 (US) there is no better value for 150 hp, and I’m sure it’s a blast to ride and good quality. And the blue wheels are sharp, I’m bias because my DRZ-SM has blue wheels. But that front end, good lord… that’s a face only a mother could love! I know looks are subjective but wow.
I believe that "camo" is supposed to be foe forged carbon. Could be wrong though.
“Faux”
Put fat bar conversion on my gsxr 1000 k6 no mods to the body work and does the job for me low mileage,, love the motor suzuki would like the gxs with the panniers if I'd more money 💷💷💷😊😊😊😊😊😊😊☘️☘️☘️☘️☘️From Northern Ireland great video
had a test ride on gt version - really impressed with engine and fueling - nice size fot 5' 7'' and super nice quickshifter - sat on one of these and really liked the compactness and short wheelbase - i bet you could really progress - a B-road delight
Nice bike not to shaw about the looks.
Agreed…
Just waiting for my z900 yellow ball.
Suzuki owner here, that engine is a wonderful thing in an economic package. My money would be in the GT version that gets a few more gadgets, same engine though
Yes it is a lovely engine for sure…
Usual good review. Interesting viewing different bikes.
Cheers Grant….
I'm not a fan of the euro 5 cat gubbins under the engine.although it's stainless the welds still seem to gain some rust over time. So I sprayed mine with mat black stove paint.. Its disappeared now
Good idea - thanks for the tip!
Cheers George - glad you like the bike, stay tuned for my in depth review soon!
Yeah, cruise control is a nice feature to have..
Great review as always. Looks good and a shame about those headlights- makes the front look like it is missing the fairing
What do you think about someone on TH-cam using your video.--have you seen it?
Which one? There are many!!
To me the front of it looks like the bike has been ridden into something stationary and the garage are just showing you the damage after you got out of hospital and before some insurance claims go in.
Each to their own though.
Hehe I entirely get that!
Coming soon stay tuned!
What helmet camera are you using and brackets to fit to your helmet.I have drift cameras but there rubbish
Much appreciated love the bike reviews
Details in the description
having riden both the s1000 and the mt09 sp which one would be your preference for an every day bike?
there both exactly the same price
Hmmm, I prefer the looks of the MT09 but the ride of the S1000 - so lets go with the suzuki.....
The pcp on my SV650 finishes this year and have no clue what I’m getting next. The gsx-s 1000 is on the very varied list, along with the z900rs the mt09sp the street triple rs and maybe the new xsr 900. Don’t like the seat they’ve put on it though
Any plans to test that bike ?
Nothing firm but I’d like to and have various “irons in the fire”
Genuinely considering a 1000cc naked as my next bike, don't see any need for 200bhp and a £20k price tag so this bikes definitely on the radar but in terms of styling I'm not quite sure and I'm currently leaning more towards the cb1000r as it's not aesthetically 'challenging'.
Yes it’s a shame isn’t it - a great bike to ride though, just the looks as you say…
Definitely a lot of bike for the money. Gotta say I like the headlights, but it'd be a dull world if we all liked the same things. The camouflage panels look like a homemade temporary repair, but other than that, it looks like a good 'un. I agree about the coloured wheels too - very nice.
Yes cool aren’t they
Where’s the fashion segment!?!? Great vid anyhow Mr M
I don’t make one on every video but must try harder!!
@@TheMissendenFlyer No need, you’re the original and still the best!
Nice noise for standard exhaust
Sure is!
I’m not even that old but struggled to get my leg over this without dislocating my hip! The rear cowl is very high for a 5’6” chap. Nice bike, but I agree, not keen on the “Dr Who” front end.
Glad we concur!
Best spot bike overall
Looks like great value for money. Only downside is the lcd display and silly headlight. 👍
Agreed!
Looking forward to your other videos on this Suzuki. I'm putting a deposit on one this Saturday. It should be a good complement to my BMW 1200gs.
Stay tuned…more to come!
Your comment about high reving to overcome the hill holder underscores a problem I've noted on every BMW riden. First gears are always too tall. First gear should get the cycle easily moving and overcoming inertia to remain at rest. With 6 speeds there is plenty of space to lower first gear.
So it's heavier by 7kg, and has nearly 2ibs-ft less torque... It also doesn't look as good as the older version.. Think I'll go for the older model..
TMF! Thanks for producing another great review, I ended up buying a Katana 2020. I know these bikes are very similar but since you've spent time with both how different do you think they are?
Very similar ride - I prefer the Katana….
When I was riding I used to use handlebar mitts most of the time and was very happy with them but they don't seem to be a thing anymore?
Not sure why?
I'm still using them 🙂
What? no snow ever in old Blighty?
Well sometimes….
The "camouflage" plastics are suppose to be Forged Carbon, they use it on a lot on supercars now.
Yes a few have mentioned that…
Great stuff, it might not be up there with the hyper nakeds, but on the rd nobody is going to leave you behind on this. Good bike, Great value.. OK looks.
A nice bike for the money but I’ll stick with my FZ1N just as much fun for half the price again.
I’m not a fan of the headlight arrangement either. I have a 2011 Z1000 with the headlights mounted horizontally and it always looks like I have a bulb out. I guess stacking them vertically solves that problem.
Yes good point…
For me the GSX S1000GT looks so much nicer, more practical with negligible weight difference. It’s not the fact that the headlight is stacked, but that all the fussily-shaped bits of black plastic around it make it look like it’s missing a lens cover. I don’t mind the forged carbon - at least it’s not huge panels. I miss bike manufacturers being a bit more adventurous so the blue wheels look great.
Yes I love those wheels too!
I'm wondering if the headlight is a tribute to the Katana. Either that or they're hoping for a shoutout in a Transformers movie.
I think they did the tribute to the Katana with the Katana!! 😉
@@TheMissendenFlyer must be trying for the next Transformers movie then 🤔
When you get to a derestriction sign to you ever find yourself thinking NASHNULS!?
Sadly - yes!
Yes it is lovely to ride and great value for sure…
It seems odd, Suzuki didn’t put on the tft dash which is now on the new GT tourer.
Me too? Cheers….
I'm in agreement with you on all you've said here, that camo looks odd. However Suzuki have always been up there with the best of the Japanese bikes but at a cheaper price point hence the simple led gauge, always good value for your hard earned though. 🙂👍
Immertation forged carbon fiber 😊
“Imitation”
Hi Andy
Liked the video and am looking forward to your long term review. I believe the honda Cb1000r is the bikes main rival. Of the two bikes which do you think is best? The two bikes have very simular specifications. The Mt10 is different due to its cross plane crank and the s1000r is much more powerful.
Regards Chris
Personally I prefer the Honda- mainly on looks grounds…
That Feux Carbon is a take on Forged Carbon which car companies like Lamborghini are using.
Let’s hope the Lamborghini version is better!
@@TheMissendenFlyer I have a Streetfighter V4, you can buy shiny forged carbon parts for bikes too!
Nice bike and nice first ride review but I’ve recently watched your excellent review of the Yamaha MT10 which I’m considering. It’s clear from your overall tone which bike is more fun, which to me is the whole point of this class.
The S100R should be considered, good price and excellent all rounder. The MT10 is a fun hooligan bike though!
@@LeeXRV I’m presuming you own one? It’s just the many reports of handlebar vibes that have put me off. I should maybe ride one though……..
The headlight isn't just you a lot of people including me don't like it ,a single lamp or side by sid perhaps may be better.
Glad we concur!
How would you compare this to the 750 you reviewed a few years ago? I think the 750 is a bit cheaper.
I don’t even recall it!!
It was a 2017 model!
Ah yes I remember now - I think I preferred the 2017....especially in the looks department, otherwise a remarkably similar ride.
They both came from the gsxr k5 motor
