  • Our first ride on Suzuki's updated naked 1000cc sportbike.
Very much less is more with this machine, which priced at only R225,999, is set to be a real value-for-money choice for 2022 and beyond.

I own a 2019 Tuono 1100rr, and I saw a killer deal on a 2017 gsxs1000 I bought it to be my "reasonable" commuter and I was so shocked how good and solid this bike is.
I love it even more than my Tuono now it's so effortless to ride and the bike feels amazing on the side of the tire.
Yes it lacks the power and character of the Tuono and it's not as agile but it's such an easy and fun bike to ride, I can ride for many hours on the track or long-range rides and the bike doesn't exhaust me like the Tuono.
That's going to show you never judge the book by its cover specs say nothing about how the bike rides.

Holy smokes, this is the exact comment I was looking for. I used to ride 750 & then gsxr 1000r. Messed up my bike & both hands in an accident so looking for a new bike. Didn't know if I should get a Tuono or gsxs 1000 but I think now I'm gonna get gsxs 1000. I only ride hard core canyons or do track once a while but now for safety will do mostly track.

Test rode one of these recently, and was mega impressed with how good it was at everything.its a refreshing bike In a world full of willy waving HP figures and bikes that are basically computers at this point. 150HP is 50HP more than you realistically need for the road in the UK.

Best bike, on the market at this price. Competition might be better and more exiting but not 5 or £6.000 more exiting in my book. Well done Suzuki to keep a 1000cc bike in reach for the poor bikers among us..

I make another deal with a free black windshild from puig and i cant wait to ride this monster. I still own a Supersport GSX-R 750 from 2015 and my wife will kill me of seh noticed it. 2020 was the last version before the updates. 2021 they changed camshafts, reduced throttlebodies diameter, a few other things. Resulting in supposedly a bit stronger middle RPM power but the top end lost around 10hp. All for Euro5 of course.

    • @k1mura92

@@exothermal.sprocket its up on peak hp (152 vs 150) but down on peak torque (106nm vs 108nm). Old bike weighs less, new bike has broader torque curve.
The bikes are very similar, however the updated design and throttle by wire are the biggest differences in terms of how the bike actually feels. I much prefer the new bike due to the design and the throttle feel.

@@k1mura92 Can you cite some sources? I've looked at dozens of videos, checked tuning sites and seen dyno charts, read journalist publications when the model was updated, the evidence seems conflicted but leans toward less peak power than the 1st gen version made (easily over 150 whp, and about 80-82 ft-lb). The engine has undergone changes since then, with crankcase breather ports, changes in camshafts, and all the other support electronics.

I have the 2016 S1000 and I love it, it's my 6th bike and I've had 5 600's before this 1000 with 30+ years street time. It could be a beginner bike if you have some dirt bike seat time and have the basics down and use some discipline. If not....Suzuki makes a 750cc in this naked version and would be a little lighter and easier to control with less power. On my 2016 you can't cut the power back, it just has 3 modes for traction control...on this 2021 it has C mode which is less power, so that would help a beginner get used to it. IMO this bike could be a beginner for some people but not everyone, don't let the guy in the video downplay the 152HP....it's a strong bike with good torque. If you have never ridden anything on 2 wheels, go get some dirt bike seat time and get the controls and balance down 1st. I started riding dirt bikes at 6 years old so going to the street was easy for me. If you have never ridden a a street bike ever, I'd go with the 750 version. But if you have ridden buddies' bikes and know the basics the S1000 could be a beginner, you need to have some self-control though because once you feel the power of the 1000 you will not be able turn back...trust me...I'll never buy another 600 unless it's for the track. Do your research...get other opinions...go test tide different size bikes if you can, none of the dealers in my area will let you do that. Stay safe brother and good luck!!!

If you've never riden a motorcycle cycle it's probably a lot of bike. I agree with the other guy, the 750 is probably perfect. I started on one last summer. Been riding dirt bikes forever. It's still so fast for the street.

  • @exothermal.sprocket
    @exothermal.sprocket ปีที่แล้ว

Once major downsize to this machine is the transmission ratios. Suzuki have run the 2005 GSX-R1000 transmission ratios on the GSX-S bike since 2015 and haven't done a thing to them. This means a crazy-tall 1st gear, followed by close ratios 2nd-through-6th all stacked VERY close together. It's the worst of both worlds for the street. Way too tall 1st gear and too short 6th gear that leaves this torquey engine turning too fast at highway speed, drinking more fuel than is necessary. You could swap sprockets and make highway RPM just fine, but that would only make 1st gear far worse than it already is.

@@alexpryce555 The ride by wire is twitchy/snatchy, when you release the clutch it does not engage smoothly and it stutters a bit. The quickshifter is not really smooth and sometimes completely cuts the throttle at higher RPM's, sending your body flying forward, after that it accepts throttle inputs again. You will notice that after a short amount of time.
My engine made rattling noises at only 900km. Right now I am at 5600km and its still there. Dealership doesnt know what it is and apparently every GSX-S1000 has that but thats not true, he lied to me so I guess will find out when I bring it back for the 6000km inspection.
I heard you can fix the snatchy throttle with a different ride by wire kit or something. Still need to figure out how to get that, but apparently suzuki dealerships can order them for you.
Its still a good bike but I prefer older ones from 2010 or so. I want an R1 RN22 as a side bike, or even main bike. The GSX is also pretty silent and changing the exhaust doesnt do much.
