Great tip on showing your dog to be with others. This is good especially for service dogs as they need to learn it all. Vaccines see dogs naturally for more info. Better to wait until after 4months for vaccines especially since they should just be at home. I only use positive training and not rubbing nose like they told me as a kid. They even said scold and hit them. It was awful. After my dog was a year old I could tell as a kid how bad that was but back then they did that to kids too sadly. I took over my dogs training and changed that. The bad advice actually made training harder. Kikopup and Pam's dog academy has great training videos for those needing more positive training tips. Great video Rachel. Blessings to the journey
Super annoying but also a good warning sign! 😂 Anyone who believes you have to dominate a dog or be the alpha, has Just unknowingly told you that they haven't learned anything new about training since the '90s 😂🙈
I rather like the term *advocate* for your dog. Your dog still looks up to you as the alpha of their pack. But that means you are the one being responsible for guiding them through a world that is governed by human laws not dog laws. I truly believe that thing you need to advocate for your dog encompasses that Concept in a way that the other does not. you also aren't at risk for raising an aggressive dog if you're advocating rather than dominating. Language is important! Thank you for sharing that ❤️
@@kestendavis8753 exactly. Being a good leader is one thing, "alpha" from what I've read, is only applicable when it comes to a dog and other dogs. I do agree, for the most part. Although sometimes aggression can be genetic or be caused by an accident that was out of the owner's control.
LEARN ABOUT 1: dog nutrition 2: dog training (all four quadrants) 3: your laws with your dog 4: the dog world these things will help your pup get the most out of your time together! talk to knowledgeable people, and dont fall into the pure positive trap. okay damn yall i made this when i was 17 and just learning. please dont take my word as law.
@Oliver Chambers Positive Reinforcement, Negative Reinforcement, Positive Punishment, Negative Punishment. Positive Reinforcement - adding something your dog likes (ex: giving your dog a treat for sitting). The dog will associate their behavior with something good and will repeat that behavior in the future Negative Reinforcement - taking away something your dog doesn't like (ex: dog pulls on the leash and hits the end of the leash, you apply gentle pressure. The pressure is released when your dog comes back to you and walks nicely). The dog will associate their behavior with losing something they dislike and will repeat that behavior in the future. Positive Punishment - adding something your dog dislikes (ex: your dog pulls on the leash so you give him a quick pop on his collar. he dislikes that). The dog will associate their behavior with something bad and won't repeat that behavior in the future. Negative Punishment - taking away something your dog likes (ex: your dog snaps at your fingers roughly and gets too excited to get the treat. You pull your hand back and put the treat away). The dog will associate their behavior with losing a good thing and won't repeat that behavior in the future. Positive means to add and negative means to take away. I hope this helps th-cam.com/video/6xaM6m8NpAQ/w-d-xo.html
I totally did ALOT wrong with my first dog! She also has anxiety from my wrong doings! I feel super Guilty too. But I wanted to “protect” her, I kept her inside and always had her with me or a family member. She literally thinks she’s my child lol anyway we all have to start somewhere! My dogs are my world so it’s all good 🐶❤️
Jennifer Diaz oh love don’t feel guilty! We can only do our best, and I know she’s a well cared for and loved pup. That’s what matters I also made SOOO many mistakes with my dogs, still do! We will be better, together 😍
YES #2 is SO important. We have a red nose pit mixed with chocolate lab. He’s now 12 weeks old. We brought/bring him EVERYWHERE. We held him, so we brought him everywhere and the managers of stores never cared. Yes a lot of people hate this, but the managers personally came up to us and pet him, they loved him. Due to this, he behaves so well in stores. 12 weeks old, he follows us everywhere, he loves all new people, and he’s so fast & well developed
It's so refreshing to see someone has had the same problem of separation anxiety from spending too much time with the dog. When I got my rottweiler, she was to be my service dog and so we spent every second of every day together through her training and because I didn't work. As she got older she had a harder and harder time being away from me, I couldn't even go take a shower without her crying, I would ask my service dog friends about it and they would dismiss me saying that that was the dogs job. But i soon realized it was far beyond that, she didn't want me to be out of her sight at all. It was one thing I told myself after she passed that when i got my next puppy to be a service dog that i would do differently, as much as we want a bond with our dogs, having a dog be sad and cry just because you checked the mail, or went to take a shower is a bit much.
I’ve heard that a loud transitional clock ticking noise is great when they are trying to settle to sleep cause the ticking reminds them of their mother’s heart beat which I found interesting!
I love watching it’s me or the dog, the trainers name is Victoria Stilwell, she’s amazing and gives such good advice, she’s really against the whole “you are the dogs alpha, they must rely on you and you can never leave them alone etc”
@shining star well she bashes other balanced trainers, she's hypocritical, put down a dog because her "positive only" method didn't work, she use training tools without introducing them to the dog properly, etc.
I felt guilty about taking my puppy on short walks around the neighborhood when she doesn't have all her shots but after watching this video I realized I made the right choice to get her out every day because now she's not scared around new people, exercises regularly, used to doing her known commands in a distracting environment and got an early start at leash training!
I have a 9 week old pup and I would never take her out any where outside my house and backyard even if it was on my front lawn with out all her vaccinations you’re literally putting your dogs health in danger and life at risk. You don’t take your dog out until they’ve been fully vaccinated and been approved by a veterinarian common sense
@@briancalifornia1 She is now almost a year old and perfectly healthy and happy. In fact, one time about a week after her last vaccine (she was meant to be out after 10 days but I miscalculated) she got some sort of allergic reaction to flowers or dust which passed after a few hours of rest (while waiting at the vet's office) but good thing that happened because the blood test revealed she had anemia and we tackled that problem early on Anyways, I know it might've been dangerous but she was always 5 steps away from our home and being taken outside often got her more used to potty training and we could get an early start on teaching "don't eat that" since that was the only possible danger for her outside
Not over feeding puppies is SO important, especially for large and/or lean breeds like Great Danes and sight hounds. It can cause a lot of damage for them in the long term. Glad you mentioned it!
Great suggestions! Especially about socializing your dog while they aren't completely vaccinated. My vet actually suggested it as well, once my dog had her first round of shots. Of course avoid dog parks or heavily trafficked areas of dogs. I brought my pup to friends' houses, on car rides, and walks around the block. It's really important to encourage new experiences during their first couple months of life.
Alexandra Kollias it can be a touchy subject but has worked for my dogs really well. Thank you for sharing this comment!! Really helpful for others too 😍❤️
Great tips. Everyone of the bad tips I was given with my pup. Lucky I did my research with channels like yours that helped me raise my pup right. Thank you for the hard work
Hi Rachel! Just wanted to give an update because it’s been a while!!! We got our golden doodle Max August 9th and we thought he was just the cutest little thing. We were prepared for all the biting and barking but the minute he hit 4-5 months he was just a force of nature. He ripped all the furniture to shreds peed and pooped everywhere and stunk up the room. And a couple months later we are doggy free and gave him to family friends. Your videos definitely helped us and we obviously recommend you to the people we gave him to. It was probably are fault for being underprepared and thinking he was gonna be like Fin and Harley but yeah. Thanks for all the help and as always..... #SaveAllTheDamnDogs
Hello People thank you for checking in. I was thinking of you. It sounds like you did the best you could for your pup, and that’s admirable. I’m proud of you!
I literally had a lady tell me how awful it was that we took our 10 week old puppy on a quick trip to a pet friendly store. She asked if she had all her shots when I said she’d only had her first ones; she then told me she would NEVER take her dog out before it was fully vaccinated. We needed to get our pup out because she doesn’t like the car and I felt short trips would help her get over that. She really made me feel bad. Thank you for reinforcing that I’m not a terrible dog mom. ❤
I was really afraid of Parvo, but I live in an apartment so I could not afford to leave my puppy inside for 3-4 months until he was fully vaccinated. What we decided to do was to walk him only around the small streets of my neighborhood. We avoided the grass for a while and when we got home we wiped his paws and nose. He was just fine and we were able to start training him asap. 😁
I hate when someone walks up to me and my Aussie and says * you know he’s going to get big and be to energetic and smart for you* THANK YOU SOO SOO MICH FOR ALL THE LIKES
I'm getting a mini and people keep saying it's going to be a big barker and crazy, but like not all dogs are like that. And for aussies they only really bark if they are working with livestock.
So thankful for your channel! Lots of the other dog channels I find go through the steps for training so quick, they talk very fast and lack being personable. Also you give SO many great tips, advice and experiences.
We toke our puppy for a walk as soon as he was big enough, only down the street and back. Now his 6 months old and he loves new places, love exploring, but he is also well behaved because we walked him so much when he was younger.
What annoys me is my mother-in-law keeps telling me I should not allow my dog to sleep in my room🙄And that they should only have their place in one spot in the house Like no hun, he’s part of the family now, not a robot that has to be put in the corner all day long
Not crate trained, but he knows to go lie on his bed when he is told to do so. He is reallly disciplined. But she believes that dogs are meant to be outside all the time, and if allowed inside, only in the kitchen area
I just got a Shiba Inu puppy 3 weeks ago. I've been binge watching your videos! So helpful! I love your channel! My girl is not fully vaccinated yet, so I've been concerned with taking outside. But I really wanted to make sure she didn't miss out on experiences and socialization. I bought a dog backpack which has been great. And I walk her around the block in my neighborhood in the daylight do I can be sure she's not getting into anything that could hurt her or feces from other, possibly unvaccinated pups. Thank you for all the great advice and suggestions!
I wish I had this information when I got my dog three years ago!! We definitely raised him wrong, which now is very annoying because I'm just now finding your channel! My dog has very bad behaviour issues and a lot of separation anxiety😬
Loved this video! I have been told these things by many people with my older dogs and so glad i didn’t believe them! Thanks for always making awesome videos Rachel! - Taryn
Please make a video about isolation distress, leaving your puppy home alone and teaching them to be alone without you! Struggling with this right now with my pup! Thank youuuu 😍
I have a doberman puppy who is very clingy. Ive only had him a week and Im already working on getting him to be more independent. I think bonding is important for the first few days to help puppy feel comfortable, but I can see how it can get out of hand very very quickly
Please please do the video on your ways of teaching pups to be left for extended amounts of time really soon!! I’ve only had mine a week but I want her to be able to be left with other people or alone for a couple of hours every now and again, I’m a stay at home dog mum and I looove how much time I can give her but I’d also like to leave my house for a little bit without feeling guilty the entire time ha! Love from the UK❤️
Great! I just got a new 9 week-old tricolor Lab-mix. She is so cute, but of course, I work. I'm trying to find ways for her to feel comfortable enough with me leaving the house, or even my bedroom to use it. She wines until I'm in her line of sight, and I'm not sure if it's separation anxiety. So thanks for these tips I will definitely be using them, and watching your other videos!
I have DEFINITELY heard a lot of people telling me these things (especially rubbing my dog’s nose in their pee)! Luckily, I haven’t done them! I still think this video was _really_ helpful though ❤️
I absolutely love your videos! I recently rescued a 1.5 year old Bernese Mountain dog that had lived in a crate in the garage for his whole life, so he had a lot to learn. I have learned so much from your videos on how to help him adjust along with help from a professional trainer. So thank you for your super informative videos!
Sounds like this video was made for me haha😥 my Dulce already has separation anxiety. She will not break contact with the door knob whenever I’m trying to get to work. I really need to break that behavior and have her associate the action positively.
Gsel im working on a video about this so I hope it’ll help you! Net: work slowly over time with getting her used to being without you, and only reward with praise treats or toys when she’s calm upon your arrival. My video has more in depth tips!
I just want to say I love your videos. We are getting a toy poodle in mid september, and your videos are helping me a lot on knowing what to do and how to take care of our puppy the proper way! Thank you so much for your hard work!
Dear Rachel, thank you for the wonderful advice. I have a new puppy and I watch all your videos because of the excellent content but also because of your pleasant and clear manner. You are a complete pleasure to watch and you set the bar for these kind of videos. Much love.
I got a carrier sling and I walk around my town with my puppy! She's 1 vax away from being able to be put down on the ground, but her "new things" anxiety has already come a VERY long way just seeing/hearing/smelling all the cars, traffic, people, other dogs, shopping carts, etc. It also allows her to meet lots of people during this time where she can't go the park or trot along walking paths, etc.
We used to take our dog on carry walks where we'd just walk while carrying them for 10/15 mins to get them used to city noises etc worked like a charm without them having to walk on the ground and potentially eat something the shouldn't! We'd also let him smell trees and anything above dog height to get him used to the smells without the chance of coming into contact with other dog germs
Thanks for the great video! :) one thing I would add: I think it's helpful for a puppy's learning, to REPEAT the commands at first so they learn the words... BUT... the key is saying the command once, then completing the command, THEN repeating it a few times in a praising tone. Sit....... (get puppy to sit) GOOD sit! Yes! Sit! Good sit! Once they learn the command and know the word, then avoid the repetition. :)
I agree with you about all of these!! GREAT advice. They need to learn it’s ok to be alone and mild separation anxiety is ok. I have a 10 week old puppy and at first I couldn’t even put her in the crate to take a shower. I decided to just let her cry it out a little and now she knows she will be let out very soon! Also agree about getting them outside. They need to see other dogs and people and hear noises! It’s good to be educated on how parvo and other common puppy diseases spread and then be smart about it. And yep you can start training them right away 😊 my pup knows sit, down roll over, stay, and look already.
Great advice for our future puppy!! Our 7-year-old rescue cries whenever my husband steps away to use the restroom or to get food, even when she is with me. We have had her for about 6 months now and absolutely love her. Any tips?
@@taryn3688 Thanks Taryn! I've tried that with chicken, which she absolutely LOVES. But when my husband walks away, she just gets so absolutely fixated on where he is going that she would completely ignore the chicken. Sometimes she takes the chicken and spits it right out as she watches my husband leave and then proceeds to yank and cry. It's just a terrible feeling watching her this stressed when my husband steps away for just a couple of minutes... And I'm not sure there's anything she values more than chicken...
Janice Ng another thing you can try is having your husband leave the room, and then wait until your dog is quiet and peaceful before he comes back in. Also make sure that him leaving and coming back is not a big deal!
Janice Ng I’m working on a video about this so stay tuned! One easy trick is to have your husband work with, and play with, you puppy while you’re in the room Get that bond built first, with you around, then slowly over time work on leaving the room and having your husband reward greatly Slow is the key!
Question: I meet my 8 week old puppy Tuesday, what all vaccines do I need to get for my puppy? Question: Can I feed puppies Rae food like you make Finn & Barkley?
Couldn't agree with you more on going out and about. We were told not to, that if we have to then we should always carry our pup arround... We live 5 min drive from the beach. After 4-5 times she learned to recognise where we drive too and couldn't be happier. We always go at mid-tide dropping-tide time so that beach is washed by the ocean and we are usually the first to walk. She on leash at all times. We always ensure that she keeps her head up and doesn't take anything in her mouth. And after all this running, she always sleeps a loooong time. Peaceful bliss for us 😁
Please make a separation video my new puppy cries and whines anytime I leave the room or even go to the bathroom for not even 5 minutes he’s so precious tho😂❤️
I just got my puppy she is a mini australian shepherd at 8 weeks old. The vet told me not to bring her anywhere till after 12 weeks old. Socializing her was the main thing i wanted to do so i brought her around people i knew and trusted that their dogs had all their vaccinations. aussies are known to be skiddish and scared of other people and dogs but my aussie now loves anything and everyone and i believe me taking her around a lot of ppl and their dogs really helped her feel safe and comfortable. it makes my heart so happy when she sees new people and dogs and seeing how excited she gets. aussies are known to have separation anxiety so i do leave her with my boyfriend and his dog or my mom if i have to go out and can’t bring her and she does great with them. when i get home she is so happy to see me and won’t leave my side, she’s like my little shadow which is also another tendency aussies are known to have. i am only 16 and getting a puppy is a huge responsibility but it really isn’t that hard, at times it can be frustrating but it’s all worth it. Another thing that is so helpful and vital at the puppy age is crate training, from day one she slept in her crate and about 2 1/2 weeks into it she now knows it is where she sleeps and feels safe and doesn’t cry at all when i put her to bed at night, she sleeps from around 9:30pm till about 8am which is GREAT. Also she is learning to wait to potty in the morning because she realized going to the bathroom in her crate was not fun. it only took about 3 times for her to poop in the crate and start screaming in the middle of the night bc she wanted out to finally be able to hold it till the morning. everyone told me to not get a aussie because of their temperament and personality but i love her she is so outgoing, playful and SO SO SO sweet.
I used a leash in the house to keep my puppy close to me so I could keep an eye on her. This worked brilliantly for potty training (she was asking to go out at the back door after only 1 week!) she killed that! However, she now has bad separation anxiety! I can’t even go to the bathroom without her. If I leave her in the lounge, she cries and cries even when she is with my parents! I feel awful as I know I have caused it!
Yes! All of these! When I was walking my puppy around the neighborhood, I constantly had random people telling me that she shouldn't be outside, or questioning me about her vaccination status. One person even crossed the road just to tell me this. I always just replied to the question "Does she have all her vaccinations yet?" with "She has all her age appropriate vaccinations." Even the vet kept telling us never to bring her outside. After her first vaccine, I had to go home and argue with my husband to make him understand why that's bullshit. It's not like I was taking her to the dog run! I feel so bad for all the lives that are ruined by this crappy advise. The most common cause of fearfulness is a lack of proper socialization, not abuse! Luckily I've never encountered the "rub your puppy's nose in shit" advice. That one seems to be out of fashion now. I wish I could practice giving her to other people as well, but I don't know anyone who would take her (at least not for free).
ActiveAnimals I understand your arguments but isn’t it a bit dangerous, sorry I’m quite new at this but I want to try my best, but from my point of view isn’t that risky? If I’m wrong than could you prove me wrong?
@@toffi5710 I agree with you, dogs of any age especially of any age could get fleas and ticks if theyre not on preventative medicine.. Also puppies who arent vaccinated for Lepto-- a bacteria that is spread by dogs simply sniffing the urine of other animals such as mice and raccoons or by coming into contact with stagnant water. It's a risk for clinical diseases such as liver and kidney failure. And then theres also the chance for your dog gets an Upper respiratory infection because of an owner's negligence -- good luck paying for the antibiotics (a cost that couldve been prevented)! ALSO IN MOST STATES, ALL PETS NEEDS. THEIR RABIES VACCINATIONS (for your pets safety, the owner's safety, other animals safety , and overall PUBLIC safety)...
One time, we let our puppies out, my mother made sure they did not interact with other dogs but a week later we realized they had contracted distemper, 2 weeks later they died. Now we live in a very populated city, we just had learnt that many stray dogs in our area had cases of distemper. I guess it's our fault for being careless but we wanted them to experience being able to run free. It really is risky. We barely had enough money to take care of them but we did our best:(
You may not see the other side of why people tell you these precautions, you were lucky that your puppy at the time did not contract distemper, parvo, leptosirosis, etc., others aren't as lucky. Veterinarians tell you not to walk puppies outside before they're fully vaccinated because they're the ones who see how easy and often it is for puppies to contract these deadly diseases. Not to mention if you're able to catch it in time, how extremely expensive it can get to treat it. These puppies, if the owner is able to afford it, stay in isolation wards for days on IV fluids/antibiotics/pain meds, trying to coax them to eat as they continue to poop blood. The smell is horrific and these poor puppies are in so much pain. Bottom line: get their vaccines done, wait till their 16 weeks for walks outside, avoid risking your puppies life. DO socialize your puppy from 8-16 weeks in a controlled environment (your house/your fenced backyard) where you know the other dog has had all their vaccines. Take them out, but hold them as she did in the video. It's just not worth the risk of your puppy potentially dying when all you have to do is get 4 rounds of vaccines and wait a couple weeks.
Rachel! 👋🏽 I don’t know if you’ve done the video already but could you please do a video on how to get your dog to be comfortable without you? Please, I’d really appreciate it. I just adopted my puppy and would love all the help. 💗
I had that advice of rubbing nose in their mess and grew up with that. But I never did that with my first dog. I am soon to be getting a 2nd puppy in 2 months. Watching all your videos. They are all very good. Only think I am questionable on is feeding raw food. I am concerned about the bacteria and such .. I am bad lol at repeating commands
Hi, I’m 16 years old and i adopted a hound mix puppy in July. I live with my parents and 3 siblings but i mostly take care of him and he sleeps with me every night. In april i’m going away for 10 days on a school trip and im a little worried about how he’ll deal with it (although he will be with the rest of my family). Any tips?
Rylie Mitringa the best thing you can do is right a bit of a schedule for them if you have one, so he will not feel too out of place. Also it may help him, because he is used to it, to have him sleep in a family members bed while your away
Rylie Mitringa because you still have quite a few months, start working on things now! You can have him sleep with some of your other family members every once in a while and he’ll be much calmer by the time you leave for your trip!
Hi. My puppy is 11 weeks old. We have had him since he was about 5 weeks. We have gone through 3 beds. He just tears them apart. How do I keep him from ripping them apart? He is a pitbull. This is my first dog. Please help. Thank you
my dogs so attached to me and it’s bad but it’s also her breed but i’m only 15 so i need to b able to go out w out worrying ab her she’s so precious tho
Really interesting, i got a puppy labrador and she is super clingy even when i leave her with my husband. Lockdown doesn't help either, can you share some ways to help with her please.
We used tour 1 step potty training and within a week of getting our 10wk old puppy he was going to the door when he needed to go out and had continued to do so. He’s 15 weeks now and has maybe had 5-7 accidents since us starting potty training and sleeps thru the night, no crate accidents. Totally worth the time!
Hi Rachel 👋 you are such an amazing person! I’ve learned so much from you, and now I’m getting a puppy soon! You really have changed my life, Thank you! ☺️💕🐶
Hey Rachel, I have a 6 week old American Staffy. I got her when she was 4 weeks and the reason being is that her mother had passed away shortly after giving birth. 2 weeks in and the only real issue I'm having is leaving her alone for multiple hours. My dad would be home but he's too ill to take care of her. So what's the best way to have her get used to the home I built for her in the back yard? Because as soon as I leave her outside alone for five minutes she start yelping and barking. Thank you
Yup, have heard many and seen this advice tips over the years. As a part-time dog sitter/walker the bit where people don't expose their puppies to experiences till about 6 months has been obvious. These dogs are the ones who are the hardest to take for walks. Have had a few afraid of a leaf, and even refuse to deal with nature any more than they have too. They are the pups I've noticed who don't do so well with new things or changes. Quite disheartening. Have learned many vets tell people to not take pups out till about 6 months, but do wish they would suggest taking them to stores and places that would allow them while they are still young. Some sporting stores are good for this too As with training and getting them to do the command the first time, I have still see a lot of people do this. Even to the point that if the pup doesn't do it then the person lets them be. Had found that when integrating training with play I've gotten the best results and consistancy (regardless of age). The dogs I've worked with have fun and do pick up the commands fairly easily. Also, easy to enforce commands like come and give while playing fetch. ;)
I'm getting a puppy this week tomorrow or today I think I'm getting it tomorrow and see places and I've been watching her channel from since I got the news that I could get a puppy!!!
I completely agree with the second one. Even if you don't have a service dog prospect, desensitizing them to sounds is still an amazing skill. It'll keep them calmer in case you drop something in the house or there are fireworks going off.
i just adopted a little puppy from the pet shelter. Her real name is Gloria but i call her Akhesenamun after king Tutankhamen's sister! She is soooo cute!
Omg rachel!! i have been so so so excited to get a puppy and my mom finally agreed about a month ago and we decided to get a female black lab puppy!! We are getting her in 2 months and 3 weeks I am so so so so so so excited
Tysm for giving such helpful advice! I'm trying to get me a puppy and I'm making a playlist I'm going to watch about puppies and training and everything i need to know and your videos really help! I appreciate you!
Hi, I love this video, I would love to hear more about the last thing you talked about. How should I train my puppy with just saying the command once? Do you mean that I should say "sit" one time until the puppy sits, and then repeat the command again after the reward and then wait until the puppy is seated again? Instead of repeating "sit" all the time until the puppy sits? Love from Gothenburg, Sweden!
I’m getting a Shiba inu pup and this video was so helpful thank you so much 🤩 I’m glad that I found this because I was really scared my pup would grow up to have behavioral problems
Hey Rachel, can you do a comprehensive video on grooming doodles. My puppy does not mind it, but she gets bored while I am brushing her and starts sprinting around, she also will not hold still. can you also talk about cutting the hair, and DIY hair cuts, versus going to a professional?? Thank you, the video was amazing as usual!!
Sofia Vidali would also love a brushing video! For me plenty of small, healthy, treats work best to keep my pups attention - or brush them around dinner time so you can use their food as a reward for staying still
Its good to keep in mind that brushing dogs gets their blood going like a massage. You create more energy this way, so before grooming your poodle id suggest taking him for an extra long walk get all that extraenergy out so theyre more likely to sit stiller for longer. Also arou ddinner time so you can treat then with their dinner is a good idea too!
I've gotten that terrible advice in the past. I have never followed it, however, because i wouldn't punish a human baby for a similar accident. I grew up with an Alaskan Malamute and will be adopting an English cream golden retriever puppy in a few weeks. What i would do instead is put him/her on a regular feeding schedule and take them outside shortly after they've eaten. Maybe there are better methods out there, and i would love to hear them, but so far this has worked well.
I understand what your saying about outside but the thing is I have recently moved to the rural countryside by a farm and a dog tends to jump over our fence and go in our garden so I'm worried that she did that before and that she has been in the places we think she hasn't been.
I'm so excited to get my 4 month old rescue puppy on the weekend! I already have a dog at home and I'm hoping that they'll get along well. Does anyone have any tips?
This is the first time I have seen your channel. So I don't know if you have talked about this before or not. But a video on dog parks would be great. To many people bring their dogs/puppies to parks to socialize them. They don't understand that dog parks are for dogs that are ALREADY TRAINED AND SOCIALIZED. I like what I heard so I subscribed. Thank you!!
I currently doing this with my rottweiler puppy making sure he is very very sociable and when my dogs were puppies I'd still take them to new places but I would carry them always or put them in there carrier till they had all there shots

I took over my dogs training and changed that. The bad advice actually made training harder. Kikopup and Pam's dog academy has great training videos for those needing more positive training tips. Great video Rachel. Blessings to the journey
Your videos are so helpful
I'm going dog shopping today
New subbie! I'm getting my 9 week mini goldendoodle next weekend. I love all your videos.

How hard is it ? I’m thinking about getting one In September . Where do you put your puppy while your at school ?
Same with all of it (:
Your puppy is very adorable!!
I still hate getting people’s advice of “dominating” your dog 🙄
@@zariacaprio1491 well said😉

okay damn yall i made this when i was 17 and just learning. please dont take my word as law.
@Oliver Chambers Positive Reinforcement, Negative Reinforcement, Positive Punishment, Negative Punishment.
Positive Reinforcement - adding something your dog likes (ex: giving your dog a treat for sitting). The dog will associate their behavior with something good and will repeat that behavior in the future
Negative Reinforcement - taking away something your dog doesn't like (ex: dog pulls on the leash and hits the end of the leash, you apply gentle pressure.
I hope this helps

That’s what matters
I also made SOOO many mistakes with my dogs, still do!

Update us about your dog!!
🙌🙌🙌
Tomorrow is the day when i will bring my first dog home..i am scared:)

You should make a video on how to have a dog be comfortable without their parent.
Taylor Keiran yes!! Will do 😍❤️
I’ve heard that a loud transitional clock ticking noise is great when they are trying to settle to sleep cause the ticking reminds them of their mother’s heart beat which I found interesting!
I wish i knew the 1st one when I got my dog... bc I never left him alone and now he cries and barks when he’s alone
You can still work on that today!
I love watching it’s me or the dog, the trainers name is Victoria Stilwell, she’s amazing and gives such good advice, she’s really against the whole “you are the dogs alpha, they must rely on you and you can never leave them alone etc”
She is awful 😂😂 makes me sad how many people feed into her bull shit.
@@meggzb4843 why is sh3 awful?
Victoria Stilwell isnt a good trainer.
@shining star well she bashes other balanced trainers, she's hypocritical, put down a dog because her "positive only" method didn't work, she use training tools without introducing them to the dog properly, etc.
She was also sued for lying since she wan't ever a trainer before the show. She wss an actress eho walked dogs
I felt guilty about taking my puppy on short walks around the neighborhood when she doesn't have all her shots but after watching this video I realized I made the right choice to get her out every day because now she's not scared around new people, exercises regularly, used to doing her known commands in a distracting environment and got an early start at leash training!
yes but make sure if you get another dog, that you have to stay away from other dogs in the neighborhood just in case
In fact, one time about a week after her last vaccine (she was meant to be out after 10 days but I miscalculated) she got some sort of allergic reaction to flowers or dust which passed after a few hours of rest (while waiting at the vet's office) but good thing that happened because the blood test revealed she had anemia and we tackled that problem early on
Anyways, I know it might've been dangerous but she was always 5 steps away from our home and being taken outside often got her more used to potty training and we could get an early start on teaching "don't eat that" since that was the only possible danger for her outside

@LunaBC thankyou 👏👏👏

Hello People you made a good pet parent decision on what’s best for the dog so good job on that!
Hello People sounds like you made the right decision! I have seen so many people get rid of their household pets through craigslist - ugh!
Hello People thank you for checking in. I was thinking of you. It sounds like you did the best you could for your pup, and that’s admirable. I’m proud of you!
Taylor Keiran this!!
I hate when someone walks up to me and my Aussie and says * you know he’s going to get big and be to energetic and smart for you*
THANK YOU SOO SOO MICH FOR ALL THE LIKES

What a horrible thing to do.
What annoys me is my mother-in-law keeps telling me I should not allow my dog to sleep in my room🙄And that they should only have their place in one spot in the house
Like no hun, he’s part of the family now, not a robot that has to be put in the corner all day long
Missy M Is he crate trained?
Von klynn I didn’t grate train my dog since I didn’t want her to be locked in a grate all day and she’s fine. She has all range in the house.
Not crate trained, but he knows to go lie on his bed when he is told to do so. He is reallly disciplined. But she believes that dogs are meant to be outside all the time, and if allowed inside, only in the kitchen area
Agree with your in law
I just got a Shiba Inu puppy 3 weeks ago. I've been binge watching your videos! So helpful! I love your channel! My girl is not fully vaccinated yet, so I've been concerned with taking outside. But I really wanted to make sure she didn't miss out on experiences and socialization. I bought a dog backpack which has been great. And I walk her around the block in my neighborhood in the daylight do I can be sure she's not getting into anything that could hurt her or feces from other, possibly unvaccinated pups. Thank you for all the great advice and suggestions!

I just brought a new puppy home and he’s SUPER ENERGETIC. Thank you so much for this video this was so helpful.
Wonderful!
As a new dog owner I can genuinely say thank you Very much! We love your videos and has helped
*you deserve WAY more subscribers than you have you are absolutely AWESOME i love what your doing keep it up!*
F1NGER B4NG you are so damn sweet! Thanks for this. I’m thankful for people like you 🙏
Thanks for the great video!
I am not sure if you already have, but can you show us what food you feed your dogs? I can stop binge watching your videos!! I love them!!!!!
Thank you for all of your videos! They are amazing! I am getting my puppy soon and all your videos really helped
Any tips?
Janice Ng maybe try distracting her using treats or a toy so she will know good things still come when your husband is away
Taryn Michelle #lovearmy
Janice Ng I’m working on a video about this so stay tuned! One easy trick is to have your husband work with, and play with, you puppy while you’re in the room
Get that bond built first, with you around, then slowly over time work on leaving the room and having your husband reward greatly
Slow is the key!

Also she is learning to wait to potty in the morning because she realized going to the bathroom in her crate was not fun. it only took about 3 times for her to poop in the crate and start screaming in the middle of the night bc she wanted out to finally be able to hold it till the morning. everyone told me to not get a aussie because of their temperament and personality but i love her she is so outgoing, playful and SO SO SO sweet.
thank you, i’m about to get my puppy and this makes me less nervous
I used a leash in the house to keep my puppy close to me so I could keep an eye on her. This worked brilliantly for potty training (she was asking to go out at the back door after only 1 week!) she killed that! However, she now has bad separation anxiety! I can’t even go to the bathroom without her. If I leave her in the lounge, she cries and cries even when she is with my parents! I feel awful as I know I have caused it!
Pomples13 I’m working on a separation anxiety video!
Rachel Fusaro that’s awesome!! Thank you xx
Yes! All of these! When I was walking my puppy around the neighborhood, I constantly had random people telling me that she shouldn't be outside, or questioning me about her vaccination status. One person even crossed the road just to tell me this. I always just replied to the question "Does she have all her vaccinations yet?" with "She has all her age appropriate vaccinations."
Even the vet kept telling us never to bring her outside.
It's just not worth the risk of your puppy potentially dying when all you have to do is get 4 rounds of vaccines and wait a couple weeks.
ara mae I’m so sorry you and your family experienced this. Hope things are better now
Rachel! 👋🏽

Taryn Michelle thank you !
Rylie Mitringa because you still have quite a few months, start working on things now! You can have him sleep with some of your other family members every once in a while and he’ll be much calmer by the time you leave for your trip!

I love you!!! So much!!! Thanks for fostering these gorgeous pups and giving them love 💜 hoping to be able to do this one day
Hey Rachel,
I have a 6 week old American Staffy.
Some sporting stores are good for this too
As with training and getting them to do the command the first time, I have still see a lot of people do this.
I am looking to adopt a 3 1/2 month old puppy, going to meet her today actually!! Really enjoy your videos. Thanks for all the helpful information!!
i just adopted a little puppy from the pet shelter.
How do you raw feed? And what kinda of food do you get?
Appreciate watching your vlog. Getting ready for new puppy time this spring.
marlene frankel you’re gonna do great. Keep us all posted! 😍
Quality change was fine just turn your volume up a smidge when editing💕
Tysm for giving such helpful advice! I'm trying to get me a puppy and I'm making a playlist I'm going to watch about puppies and training and everything i need to know and your videos really help! I appreciate you!
Hi, I love this video, I would love to hear more about the last thing you talked about. How should I train my puppy with just saying the command once? Do you mean that I should say "sit" one time until the puppy sits, and then repeat the command again after the reward and then wait until the puppy is seated again? Instead of repeating "sit" all the time until the puppy sits?
Love from Gothenburg, Sweden!
yep! thats exactly it! Simply say “sit” (if your puppy knows what that means) and wait!
Taryn Michelle thank you 😊
What I did with my old dogo was say sit then gently have her sit down she learned it really fast from that
I’m getting a Shiba inu pup and this video was so helpful thank you so much 🤩 I’m glad that I found this because I was really scared my pup would grow up to have behavioral problems
For me plenty of small, healthy, treats work best to keep my pups attention - or brush them around dinner time so you can use their food as a reward for staying still
@@taryn3688 Thank you!! This is helpful!!
Oh that’s a great point. Def make sure the area is secure!
@@RachelFusaro will do!
ya i did
I'm so excited to get my 4 month old rescue puppy on the weekend! I already have a dog at home and I'm hoping that they'll get along well. Does anyone have any tips?
You have given this advice
This is the first time I have seen your channel. So I don't know if you have talked about this before or not. But a video on dog parks would be great. To many people bring their dogs/puppies to parks to socialize them. They don't understand that dog parks are for dogs that are ALREADY TRAINED AND SOCIALIZED. I like what I heard so I subscribed. Thank you!!
My dad said if I get a dog it has to stay in my room but I’ve read all about it (several articles, vets articles, etc) and it isn’t good 😬
you should never get a dog if u have to compromise , your dog needs alot of space and agarden and lots of walks
I currently doing this with my rottweiler puppy making sure he is very very sociable and when my dogs were puppies I'd still take them to new places but I would carry them always or put them in there carrier till they had all there shots
i needed this a year ago!!! this is super helpful and definitely gonna be using with my future pups
I am bringing home a great dane puppy to a house with two cats (one is a kitten and one is 8) I am excited and terrified all at the same time!
Rachel, awesome video!
👋!! Yay Ben, thanks for stopping by ❤️❤️❤️
