Do you feel like you’re struggling with your puppy-biting training? Maybe it’s time to change the way you think about the steps: th-cam.com/video/FEh9GIROT1E/w-d-xo.html Happy Training!
As I watch this I’m actually sad about how this is going. We’ve had many dogs through the years. We’ve never experienced this “vicious “ biting problem before. We have an almost 10 week old Golden Retriever. We’ve had her only 2 weeks. From the beginning, she nipped/bit at /on us. She’s what I actually call vicious. She will bite anything close to her. I can’t collar her even. Today I actually pinned her on her side twice to stop her manic behavior. She fought that and struggled to get up. I was so shaken that she’s so fierce I lead her to her kennel. She wound up ripping my upper hand and it was bleeding. I just don’t know if we can turn this around. I love her already, but this is ridiculous.
Thank you SO much for using untrained dogs and owners that need help. It's ENORMOUSLY appreciated. There is nothing worse than videos of trainers using very well trained dogs to demonstrate training or help in correcting bad behaviors! For those trainers that use the well-trained dogs, the viewer (a dog owner desperately needing help) feels like a failure from the start!
Oh my gosh, same. I felt like such a failure with my 8 w/o pup and realized the videos I was watching had 10 -12 w/o and older dogs who aren’t land sharks!
Sending this to my sister for this exact reason. This pup acts just like hers, so she should feel like this is possible just because a "real" pup is being used.
Completely agree with this comment. I have been struggling with our puppy biting our hands and the leash. We did a 15min session just now. It was hard, he struggled a lot but soon enough he got it. We will practise this everyday. Love from Australia.
I want you to know how much I appreciate the style and format of this video. I've learned a ton from you guys already (and already watched a bunch of your videos on biting), but this one is especially valuable because you really get to see you work on it in real time. Often you are working with a dog who has already had quite a bit of training in a particular exercise and it looks so easy. It's not like that for most of us. So getting to see how you make changes, adjustments, and address issues in real time is awesome. That and Smooch is exceptionally cute.
I watched a video with Cesar Milan go to someone house to help them train the dog to stop biting. The video shows him doing like one thing to the dog and it listens, then the family does it and it quickly listens after expressing how bad the behavior was before it. It was such BS.
Perfect timing this is what we needed to hear this morning. The whole “fun time stops now” for a second while they’re biting is the game changer! Just redirecting and sticking something else in his mouth didn’t quite have the long term teaching effect we need. Thanks 💙
I really want to say thank you for presenting this real life session. There are way too many dog trainer youtubers just give training sessions with already well trained puppies and fool people like me into believing training a puppy is easy. This is very helpful.
I can 1000% confirm this works. I’ve done this everyday with my 10 week shihtzu who would not stop bitting my hand and now we can settle in the couch calmly and actually pet my dog.
so thankful for this video! this is the only one that works with our puppy. Bite inhibition? nah! Yelping when they bite hard? nah! Limping? nah! Time out? nah! my puppy would only bite harder! I’m so lucky I came across your video. Your advices just really make sense. There is only Black and White with puppies! Either they bite, or not. bravo!👏🏻
This method worked miracles on my 14 week old rescued puppy. We've been told she has Australian Shepherd in her and her nipping was insane. I tried MANY methods suggested by people, but this by far was the most successful. I've had my most enjoyable day with her today because of using this hold. Best of all it is so gentle! Thank you so much for this video!! My hands and Maggie thanks you too.😊
Wauw, this really helped me. Even though it is very gentle, my 10 weeks old German Shepard initially got upset with me for doing it, but immediately stopped nipping at me. I started an hour ago and I have done 3 sessions of correcting and probably 3 where I treat him with treats while petting. No more nipping! Thanx a lot!
Great advice again! I laughed so much when your puppy rolled his eyes to you when you were holding him to calm down. Our puppy gives exactly the same innocent look when I hold her to calm her down.

I LOVE this idea. It’s so much better than redirecting. And perfect timing. We are in the puppy biting phase at 12 weeks. We just adopted him last week. Thanks!
Oh dear, Smooch reminds me of my dear departed BC . Makes me smile and happy to see him be so border collie smart!! They are such a joy to teach. I had 15 years of the Best Pal Ever and I wish Smooch and his human family a long and rewarding life together.
Absolutely love this video. Started grabing her with each bite this morning, could tell the difference almost immediately. will keep on focusing on bitting - having a land shark home ain't much fun...
All good pointers. high pitched voices and lots of verbalization makes puppies and dogs crazier. It's really hard to control that with other ppl. Maybe choosing fewer words is better than using many words for the same thing ie., settle, calm, no. Those border collies, smart dogs, easy to train, picks up what we want quickly. I liked the friend interaction too, lol
Definitely going to try this tomorrow! I tried the ignore method and she just goes right back to nipping and those lil teeth are starting to hurt!! Thank you for such a clear explanation!!! 💛
Thank you so much! I recently got a Carpathian Shepherd (Which I thought she was a Caucasian). She was very stubborn and always try to bite me or my spouse. When I tried your method this morning and there she was behaving! I place my hand near her mouth and she is hesitant and did not bite me after the technique u used! You are amazing! Thank you so much teacher. You saved me alot of money cause I thought I may end up enrolling her to an obedience school 😭😭😭 Keep it up and stay safe.

I ❤️ love and admire your patience! You’re timing is outstanding!! I’m going to have to film myself because I’m having trouble with a small agile, quick ,smart 1/2 Aussie, 1/2mini Aussie puppy. At 8 1/2 weeks old 5 1/2 pounds his bitting is an Xtreme challenge for me. I’ve had Great Dane puppies for 45+ years. And I’d swear this “Maverick” of mine is a different species Lol. I don’t recall one of many Great Dane puppies, I always obedience train my kids! I take them to an All- breed class after they’ve had all their shots. Usually 4 to 6 months. I also take them out to malls and places to sit outside and stay for people to come by and be introduced. I’VE had good success with this. Everyone loved to pet a big ole Great Dane Puppy. This guy has a “die hard” battery that doesn’t quit!! When I’ve tried your calming technique tucking him in under my arm on my side sometimes it works. But, a lot of times he escalates barking playfully it razor sharp bites his little pretzel self can do. I always keep a collar and line on him. This too can be a challenge with him attempting a tug game with his line. As he gets a little older and conditioned with several daily quick sessions I can see progress. But never as well or quickly getting your results! It depends when I bring him out of his crate whether Dr. Jeckle or Mr. Hyde appears as to what or how much schooling we can do. He is Smart. But I feel like I have to go slower with his schooling. I’m trying real hard to follow your program. I like and respect what you do. I was old school, choke collar on my Dane pups. But lots of Praise with them they respond well. What other calming games procedures can you recommend? I also was a Jockey 🏇 and Thoroughbred Racehorse Trainer, my forte has been with ‘ problem’ horses . I enjoy working with them and figuring out what works with different horses. I could use some advice with this guy. More than anything I want the best recall possible. He was so small and it being winter I’m training him in the house. I’m getting my husband to help me with “playing” animated come back and forth in a short hallway. He’s responding well for now, short sessions cause I want it to be a good fun experience.I also have a fetch one of his favorite toys which has been going well. I’ll see how “high” he is either letting him run-off some energy or zoomies. But at times his bite drive overtakes a teach session. Any suggestions would be Sooooo appreciated. ( no choke collars for this guy! )A nice snug light nylon collar with metal buckle so I could get a good fit. I’m a little Leary when it gets warm outside and think he may need a harness to make sure he never slips his collar. I’ve never used one before. I know of 3 other exact same breeding brothers that are around 6 months olderbun
I tried so many things on my goldendoodle that had a very bity attide, she understood a couple days after, thanks for your great advise, I watched many of your videos, i'm very thankful with your knowledge sharing, i will follow your videos from now!
Do you need more help with nipping and biting? Here is a video that talks about the BIGGEST mistakes that people make when it comes to puppy biting training: th-cam.com/play/PL7BBgLulherlOiwnLdyF0lOoRhVeJeswn.html Happy Training!
I just got my puppy and we have been struggling with the biting, I feel like everytime I have a question about my puppy and his training, you guys have a video for me to learn and better help my dog. Awesome !!!
We just adopted a 6/7 month old from the pound. Straight into the naughty adolescent phase , where the body is big and heavy but the brain is still like a puppy (with some added rebellion and protest barking thrown in!! Yikes). I sympathise watching this video - the puppy doesn't always behave as planned! I've quickly learned a lot of patience and consistency. If your puppy is moving into the tricky adolescent phase, please be patient and don't give up. Stay calm, don't engage if the play gets out of hand and invest in a bit of professional training, it will be so worth it.
I'm so glad you're here sharing such valuable information. However, I have a 14 week old puppy that is a MAJOR biter. I've tried to implement the method in this video but it seems to rile him up even worse. I am at my wits end. I've tried and tried everything I can with absolutely no success. What do I do now? He's tearing up my hands and shredding my clothes. I am desperate for any help the TH-cam universe can offer. Thank you!
Your videos are amazing. Even being experienced and knowledgeable, you help reinforce, teach, and get at all those problem and struggling corners of training that get overlooked and are so challenging. We are getting a Rhodesian Ridgeback puppy in two weeks when he turns 8 weeks old, and as they have such a reputation for being little sharks, I am inhaling these specialized videos. About to dowse my husband with them so he's consistently on board too. Thank you for all you do!
just found this video!! i needed so bad since my pitbull mix puppy wont stop bitting and nipping me (she even sliced my finger open with one of her teeth, she is teething lol) i really am grateful!
So glad you posted this video! We have 4 month old Yorkie & his teeth are super sharp. Now we’ll practice this & hope he responds quickly! Thank you so much! Now I’m wondering how to train him to have good manners at the groomers??
Guys, I loveeeeee your videos. Could you please please pleeeeaaaase show us how to do this with a big breed? Our 3month old husky is double this guys size and way more hyper. We are watching your videos to train him but it’s help if you show us with bigger breeds.
When I try to hold my dog like this video suggests she just gets more riled up. I guess it depends on the dog but redirect always works better for me and keeps her calm.
Thank you so much for sharing these techniques. My 17 week old puppy is such a sweet boy when he's not using his teeth to 'grab' my attention during play. Lately he's also been using his teeth to play with visitors. Training with your suggestions begins right now! Thanks again!!
The hardest part is coaching others. People don’t understand, I’m not being mean I’m teaching my puppy to have good manners now because he’ll be a full grown dog one day
Great info! Could you please talk a little about training when you have more than 1 puppy? We have litter mates and there is a lot of separation anxiety if I separate them to try and train even for a little while
I am puppy sitting a German shepherd puppy who is hell bent to ‘bite’ my legs. I have tried a lot of suggestions like trying to direct his attention to toys; making him sit; etc. this looks like a possibility maybe. I will definitely try this. As a puppy that will turn into a big dog; stopping this is so important. ( cat lady here and can’t wait til his dad gets home in 2 more weeks.). When he is super excited about getting at my legs; I have been ‘timing out’ to his crate; he does seem to have a different attitude in a few minutes; but out for walks there is no crate.
My dog is about 3 yrs old ( Don’t know the real ages because he is a rescue). He still thinks he is puppy and likes to play bite us so much. Every time we pet him. I’m definitely gonna try this method. Thank you for great video 👍
I just want to say thank you for your helpful advice, your videos are very useful and the way you give the advice is brilliant, very easy to follow, I’m totally a fan 😁
Tha k you for this video. I feel this is the most helpful out of the nipping and biting videos you've done, because this is what my puppy does. The other videos are not as representative of what I've been dealing with. It seems that there are different ways that puppies will exhibit nipping and biting depending on the dog. This just so happens to be my puppy's way and I will be trying to take care of this profile and reinforcing good habits using this method
Hi Teacher . My puppy uses to like this dog .. .. Bite my hands when I touch him .. he open his mouth first .. I wil follow your advice in this video 😘
We’ve had our 8 week old gsd for almost a week now. Perfect timing for this video. She’s improving with the redirect and replace technique but I was hoping there was more I could do. Right now she basically has her 40 minutes of fury where she wants to bite everything. I basically just play on the floor w her and keep her occupied on toys the whole time. Then she has a half hour of being the sweetest puppy ever that just wants to cuddle between your feet (without biting them). Then she sleeps. Wake up, repeat 😂
This is a wonderful lesson in training thank you so very much! You are doing an awesome service to all dog owners who take advantage and watch all of your awesome training videos. *Thank you!
How should I handle a guest dog who jumps on my furniture? My dog isn’t allowed, and I don’t know any her picking up any bad habits. Love your videos! I’m learning a lot.
Thank you so much. I love your videos and you are helping me so much with our new family member. Border Collie and she is 10 weeks old. Wish I were near you so that I could attend a class with you guys and learn more about dog training. Keep up the good work.
Oh my gosh! Ken and the wig! 😂 Love it! You guys are phenomenal! I have learned so much from all your videos and demonstrations. What a wonderful resource you are! 🤩🤩🤩 I love it that I can watch over and over until I can respond with the correct timing. Thank you! You are saving me!
Excited to try this method. My 2 pups overwhelm me and everyone with their enthusiasm! The Bernedoodle pup is huge. Any advice for huge pups that can’t be pickup? Just use leash w line?
This is very interesting! I had discovered by chance that lifting my puppy off the ground is about he only technique that gets him to stop mauling my hands, legs and arms and my clothes. Not sure though how long it takes to break him of this permanently. He's a Belgian Malinois so his play biting has alot of force in it and it leaves bruises!
I wish I had had this video last October when we got out puppy. He’s 1 now and the biting is still a problem. I will try to do this method and see if it helps.
Great videos, we just got an 8 week Bernese, he is becoming a real bitter, learning a lot from you....question,so 8 weeks is fine to be training like this and expecting him to behave? I find when I try to reward, he try’s to take my fingers off, what if he doesn’t want the treat?

Thanks for all your advices! We have a 7 weeks german Shepherd that gets wild with biting at night time.
Great presentation... A must view in for all puppy owners
I’m a huge advocate of your training techniques and behaviour modification styles 👍
Gosh you’re amazing handling dogs! Thankyou
Thank you!
Omg. I was doing it all wrong.
Thank you so much.
Let's see how it goes
Me too! I’m kicking myself now and I have friends coming over to meet my pup in a few hours..
Man it's so wild seeing his body language change. I have a long ways to go on this stuff, but these videos help SO MUCH.
Thank you for all you do!
your videos are great!
I help foster rescue pups and these are absolute gems! THANK YOU!
It was so helpful to see how to handle nipping when it's done to someone other than the trainer.
just found this video!! i needed so bad since my pitbull mix puppy wont stop bitting and nipping me (she even sliced my finger open with one of her teeth, she is teething lol) i really am grateful!
Oh my god this is so helpful! We are getting a puppy and need to learn these things
Good luck!
My family doesn't understand boundaries, unfortunately. But this video is great!
Definitely trying this with my puppy ... thanks x
EXCELLENT!!So well presented and easy to understand! “Good Job👍”
Can't thank you enough for all I learn from you!
Thank you so much for this video. Your training video is a life saver to all.
This is an excellent video. Thank you so much!
THANK YOU!!! We had forgotten how challenging Airedale puppies are!!
When I try to hold my dog like this video suggests she just gets more riled up. I guess it depends on the dog but redirect always works better for me and keeps her calm.
So helpful ❤️ 👏👏👏👏👏👏
Haha she kept saying"YAASSS!". And OMG, that guys wig is hilarious 😂😂😂.

@@McCannDogsIt's only been two days and I'm happy to say that your technique really works!!
My 60 day Labrador puppy is biting my hands. That's what brought me here. Thank you.
*Thank you!
Love your videos!!! Just got to rescues, a 1 year old that's a saint, and a 5 month old that is the terror. This helps a lot 🙂
I wish I could add a picture. That puppy is a look alike and acts like my Sam I Am. Love your videos.
Gosh I wish I had this when I got my new GSD puppy. Excellent video!!!
I really like your training videos and your methods. What kind of training treats are you using?
Same problem. Have a 4 month old husky puppy who LOVES to bite when she’s playing and she’s not exactly very small or easy to pick up

Let us know if it works!
Or say “No” with a pointed finger, take it away and wait until he calms down. I used to do that with my Pitties! It worked every time.❤🐶🐶
Thank you guys! I have been practicing your techniques it has helped alot. Thank you!!
Oh my goodness, what a precious little man. XD
Thank you very much appreciated.

Great video and helpful tips.
Great videos, we just got an 8 week Bernese, he is becoming a real bitter, learning a lot from you....question,so 8 weeks is fine to be training like this and expecting him to behave? I find when I try to reward, he try’s to take my fingers off, what if he doesn’t want the treat?
2:37 lol his face
I've been struggling with nipping and a few aggressive bites. My 14 month Jack/Chi mix rescue won't sit long enough to watch the video.
Great video!
Great advice!
Thank you as always ❤️ your work is appreciated 🐶
What is the best line to get? Size material for a small pup that will grow fast. Thank you. Love your videos!,
The disguise ! @7:35 lol, too funny!
Thanks!
