Hands-On Steering Repair: DIY Techniques To Diagnose & Fix Solid Axle Steering

In this video I go over how to troubleshoot play in the steering of your solid axle vehicle. The vehicle used as a example in this video is a 2001 Dodge Ram, however the steering system it utilizes is very similar to 1994 to 2023 Dodge 2500/3500 trucks, 2003-2023 Ford Superduty’s, 1983-2001 Jeep Cherokee XJ, 1993-2004 Grand Cherokee’s, and 1997 to 2013 Jeep Wrangler’s (TJ, JK, JL).
The methods for diagnosis used in the video also apply to older leaf sprung vehicles, with the main difference being little in the way of castor adjustment and most often no track bar.
