The first episode I ever saw from MCM! I was searching for an electronic boost controller at the time, found this episode and ordered a GFB boost controller afterwards. Today I just got delivery of a GFB Blowoff valve! Great products and MCM are the best!

I own a starlet with a TDO4 turbo on it running about 200bhp. surprised me that you guys chose this out of all the turbo cars you could of got. they are nippy beasts though. especially with a TDO4 on.

Australia's road laws are a complete joke, good on you New Zealand!
well yer its better than most countries BUT would you roll around with no INSURANCE
but in aus you only have to get one roadwourthy when you buy your car and thats it, in Nz you have to get one every 6-12 months depending on the year of your car

Australia doesn't have unified road laws. In SA, we don't have periodic roadworthy inspections, nor do we need to have insurance (but you'd be mad not to).
I really enjoy this episode. I love all of the episodes where y'all do technical how-tos on anything performance related, especially on cars that I've never seen before. I live in the US near Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania and obviously I've never seen a Starlet, let alone one with an Evo body kit. Was I the only one that noticed that the car had different types of spark plugs in it? I didn't read all of the other comments but one spark plug was a NGK Iridium and the other was a Bosch Platinum. That MIGHT have an effect on performance. Anyway, great show as usual. I am a huge fan of MCM.

I live in nz and got a 1.0L NA starlet at the start of 2021 as my first car for $500 bucks off the side of the road about a month before I turned 14 and its been running great no problems, so far ive just been driveing it on my familys farm and back roads but it is damn fun can't wait to make it better👌

I'm restoring my 4efte powered Fiat X1/9. I blew the motor about 6 years ago and it's been parked up.
I've got the greatest respect for these little motors.
They are tough tough tough. Mine peaked at 130 bhp at the rear wheels. Just had Ross forged pistons, 2.5" exhaust (straight thru) and a Microtech ECU. No extraneous paraphernalia as the car is 1979 and doesn't need the pollution bits. It would easily keep pace with WRX STI. In the straight and through the corners.
Still watching the old MCM is by far unbeatable these guys were Brilliant from day 1
Dont forget you can register a t55 tank on the road to :)
If you have a spare 10 million you can register it on the road.

People's heads were turning at the starlet because it is a beautiful turbo hatch car that was forgotten as time went by but the ones who know these cars today, knows the value of them.

Surely he/she had to be based on the mods like the Evo III bodykit. Still though, even though it was in a terrible state both cosmetically and mechanically it was still a pretty cool car to see on the show.

those gfb controllers are awesome. I had an legacy rs for many years and one of the first mods I did was chuck one of these on. Boost came on so much faster/harder. ended up selling car, took off controller and man what a huge let down the factory controller was, I reckon lost 50hp without it. . ended up putting down 150kw atw with a leaking uppipe with that controller and factory grey injectors.
I saw '16 valve EFI' and thought starlet. Im tryinv to get an ep82 mk3 gt turbo for my 17th -18th
I have an EP70 starlet with a 16v EFI, it's a good swap id recommend
And the EP82 is also a good car, the engine is built like titanic and you get more than enough power to start you off and theres a nice turbo whistle too, everything a teenager wants really

They don't have to have insurance on their cars? What about insurance for when you crash into someone and have to pay for their repairs?
If you dont have insurance here, you either just apologize or pay the whole fee out of your own wallet. Usually they will let you off, but it all depends on the driver you crashed into.
I reckon if it's your fault you should cover the expense
3rd party fire / theft is the bare minimum really.. Unless you're prepared to be paying off someone else's car for the rest of your life :P

I think, when they removed the tires and added new ones they should have kept the plate (in the middle of the rims) off, because that's what made the rims ugly as hell

I love these guys. No homo. So informative. I just got an hks evc 5 boost controller and wasn't sure on the entire install. Now I know exactly what to do. Question though....I have an rb25det and I think max is 12 psi and stuff goes bang if you go any higher. How is that little turd holding the same boost that makes mine go bang? Or is my rb25det more capable?
The stock internals or the Rb25det turbos are shit, the ceramic turbines tend to break at more that 12psi and a new ecu might help the factory one will limit boost like the one in that little turd =). Dunno about rb25 stock internals but the engine will be able to handle much more boost safely... how many 1.3 starletts are there drifting round? =)

+King 250sx stock internationals are awesome. it's just the stock turbo that can't hold over 12psi
Remy Brennan I'm working on replacing the stock turbo, but at 10 psi with intake, exhaust, standalone, injectors, and coils my motor puts out 340 hp to the rear wheels. Okay it's actually 337, but I'm rounding up.
What kinda turbo you looking at? I'd round up in 50s haha 350hp not bad

If you have a 50k Skyline you would be a fucking idiot to not have insurance...
DougiTheKiWi_HD In NZ that skyline would be around 15k for most models, 20-30k for a GT-R. Actually i seen a GTR R32 go on Trade Me (Ebay of NZ) for $9750, it had no problems and was in a dealership.
