    I have a transmission to take out on an MTD I might use my chain hoist like you. You are a cleaver dude. Nice mill work on the shafts. I thought you might take us down the longest driveway in the world!! It kills me what mowers are called but the main thing is what is the motor. That choke lever on the Honda carb snowthrower is made out of plastic (I had one break). But the lever is 9 inches long.

    The Cub Cadet with the Briggs and Stratton seems pretty rare, most seem to have the Kohler Courage series of engines that have a spotty reputation.

      Hey Thomas ,they had both. I have another with a 23hp Kohler courage also and my experience has found the V twins are a little better than the single cylinder courages, I come across all kinds of single cylinder courages that are blown. The V twin courages have some issues though ,coils , head gasket stuff like that. Also my neighbor has a 2012 cub cadet with a kawasaki V twin so they had a variety of engines they used. This particular one in the video I used for 3 years and sold it last year and got a cub super LT 1554 , 27 hp Kohler courage. I also got a cub GT 1554 with a blown 27 Kohler that I'm putting a 20hp vanguard in

    A full synthetic 20w50 works best from what I have seen on these.

    Just checking in from AZ. I wish I could score decent looking mowers like you just got. You saw in one of my latest vids I had to pay $20 bucks and they were missing carbs,blades and all kinds of crap. You got Christmas in August buddy! Keep em coming and Ill keep watching. Hydro @ 100%? Oil topped off?

    Looks like your filling it from the vent plug hole, the correct fill hole is in the front under a rubber plug, there is a disc magnet in this hole and a ridge that is used as the fill level.

    Picked up a Cub Cadet at an auction. Ran great but wouldn't move. Added fluid and it moves now but it has the same axle seal problem you dealt with. Do you have a part number for that seal? Thanks for a great video and the problem solving for Cub Cadet owners.

      Thanks Michael. Off hand I don't have one but I might have shown them in another video , not sure. The original trans in this one was completely burned up , literally , the plastic vent tank was totally melted. So I took a good one out of a parts machine. Its been about 3 years and it's still working great

    On any of the hydro, raise rear end of ground and let it ideal , shift back to foward with no load to not damage Tran

    Those seals will leak from the bushing behind it wearing down.

    Would have been nice if you had given more information on brand of Tran and model number, I know it must be a lot of trouble but more information makes sense and with so many videos, you have to be able to keep people interested

    People were so use to the old MTD trans and hardy any trouble with it in 20+ years and if so a $100 bucks in parts and a tad of labor
    Now they have brand new mowers with 300 hours and trans fails, 800 bucks up to 1500
    They just flip out 😂
    Then in two months camshaft release failure
    I’ve heard and seen crap now I’ve never thought I would have to put up with 😮

    what yr is your cub and is it a SLTX 1054? callls for 20-50 oil not hydraulic/transmission fluid HY-tran?

    • @davessmallenginerevival2847
      @davessmallenginerevival2847  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Craig. This one is a 2010 LTXVT 10/50. Yes the manual says 20-50 oil. This video has a few years on it and just so you know the trans has been working great since. I have a 2007 LT10/50 also that I use year round with a snowblower attachment for the winter

    What did you use to seal the leak? Is there an actual part for that. Shop told me is throw away transmission. I rather fix

    • @davessmallenginerevival2847
      @davessmallenginerevival2847  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Daniel. You can replace all the seals in these hydro gear transmissions. I've done it a few times it's a lot of work but it's better than buying a new one. That's assuming that your pump isn't junk

    • @22koga
      @22koga 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      you can replace the seals and fix the pump with a piece of glass and a piece of sand paper and sand down the pump housing with 320 to remove the groves then 600 to polish the housing then use just 600 to polish the pump that rides in the pump housing or just take it to a machine shop and have them machine off a few thousandths until the groves are gone

  • @Mark.Bermudez

    What did you do to get it running? You had an issue right after filling the case with oil but never explained what you did. I'm having issue with mine not going in forward or reverse. It doesn't make that hydrostatic noise when the swash plate tilts, almost like it's in constant bypass mode.

    • @davessmallenginerevival2847
      @davessmallenginerevival2847  4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Hi Mark in this case I had to purge the air bubbles out of the pump , basically just keep working the forward and reverse but yours sounds like a different problem all together. I would check your bypass linkage to make sure it's working. If it's a tuff torq trans the plastic lever on the trans tend to break. This one is made by hydro gear. It still works great to this day. I probably wasn't much help but hard to diagnose without seeing it first hand

    • @Mark.Bermudez
      @Mark.Bermudez 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@davessmallenginerevival2847 I have the bypass lever disengaged, mine too is a CC with Hydro Gear tranny. It's a LTX1046VT very similar to yours. Same professional grade Briggs engine too. Bought it at Tractor Supply back in 2009.

    Hey I have a question. I switched a transmission on my XT1 but for some reason now the reverse and forward are opposite on the pedals. Any idea why that would be?

    • @davessmallenginerevival2847
      @davessmallenginerevival2847  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yes. I have a recent video on a weak tuff torq transmission and I explain in it that no 2 hydros are always the same , for whatever reason they put a wedge inside and that wedge can be reversed so that it changes the forward to backward and vice versa. You have to take the Trans cover open and switch around the wedge. Sounds easier than it really is but it can be done. Good luck

  • @codybodien

    I'm not sure if you will see this but I'm having a similar issue.. my Trans doesn't like to work when it has been driven for about 15 mins or so, I put a new drive belt on and the fluid looks to be good (not burnt or dirty), just seems to lose momentum after the 15 mins of run time. Any help is appreciated!! New sub here! Great videos.

    • @davessmallenginerevival2847
      @davessmallenginerevival2847  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Hi Cody. Well it really depends on what make the Trans is. If it's a tuff torq it might be able to be repaired but it requires taking the Trans apart. Taryl fixes all has a video on that. If it's a hydro gear like this one it's probably toast. Thanks for subbing

      Check belt and pulleys 1st. Then make sure the foot control is connected and working. If those are in working order than the bad news is the hydro is shot
