      Actually, I did find the key. Right where it would have fallen out. Sure enough, mower is running like a champ 😁. However, with the corona shutdown,I've been doing everything but mowing the lawn. And the weather around here has only allowed for a day here or day there to get other outdoor projects done. But, thanks for the link 😁. Would have definitely needed it if I changed the tire in the grass.

      Hi Steve, I have an older Murray lawn tractor in really nice shape 12 horse Briggs with 36 inch cut. 6 speed with reverse. problem I'm having is that it shifts fine when the motor is off but once it's running it doesn't want to shift into other gears it's very hard to shift. Do you think its a belt not allowing trans to fully disengage or worn shift keys?

    • @wyelandlebeouf7202
      @wyelandlebeouf7202 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hey Steve I kind of ran into this yesterday on a clients mower I knew the check the key sure enough it was gone. My question would be will it still engage the transmission and move somewhat if the key is still in place on the other tire? It's rare 2 flats happen at same time lol I'm just curious because I assume.it should have engaged the transaxel and make the transmission spin?

    You, sir, are a gift to mankind. I went through every single stage and step of mechanical grief you described so perfectly - shouted multiple choice phrases - only to have this be *exactly* what happened. Took two minutes to remedy and now I'm back to mowing.
    Bless you, sir. Keep up the excellent work and cheers!

    Yeah but what if it wasn't a tire issue? Do you have a video on the internals of a hydraulic drive transmission? Or a mechanical one?

    • @woodrowmagnus2535
      @woodrowmagnus2535 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yeah, hydraulic may be easier to run and convenient, but when it goes, it's cheaper to replace the entire mower. I had one and will never get another one. They're more expensive too. I'm back to the mechanical stick shift. More reliable and dependable.

      @jazalessandro3094 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @ Woodrow Magnus, 2 things with hydro trans to not do;
      Don’t believe the ‘non serviceable part’ you get from most mower manufactures,
      You can change the oil & replace internal parts.
      Don’t tow & brake alot if you can,helps for durability.
      It is cheaper this way than to replace whole mower & will last as good as old school pure mechanical setup 😉

      If it has the plastic transmission, around 100 hours of use, a screw on top of the transmission pulls through a washer atop of a spring. There's a few videos of this issue and how to repair the problem. I have a JD d105 that I will be working on this week. It seems to be an easy fix but getting to it is going to be a bit tedious.

And after putting it back together, nothing. None of the other videos on TH-cam even mentioned that the key could be missing. I found it under where I was working, and lo and behold, there was the key on the garage floor. The part of your video showing the two slots lining up …. 2009 Craftsman Professional 917.28970 struggling on slight slopes. I've changed the drive belt many times over the years, including recently. I'm assuming the transmission or fluid is going bad (never changed). Can't find anything anywhere about what to use. The owner's manual says "sealed from the factory and maintenance not required." By chance do you know what fluid it uses and if it's serviceable, or just replace the transmission?

    --- Any takers on a issue??? --- Got a Craftsman LT-1000 other day. The mower runs and cuts fine with one small issue. Which is on a topic of mower will not move. So I put the pedal down and mower stops. I let off pedal all the way and mower will not move. At which I take my toes and put behind pedal and pull up just a hair and mower takes off fine. I have to repeat this every time mower stops or when first starting to mow. It seems like a cable issue or something because my pedal spring sounds sorta grind sounding. What would cause this or need to replace? Hydro stat trans, Briggs twin cooled 17.5. 917-270821

    I have a 2006 Yard Machines model 601 which is a 46" cut. It runs fine and drives but lately I've noticed that it doesn't want to move like it used to. Sometimes it slows to where I let go of the accelerator pedal and then press on it and it starts moving again. I know there is some kind of drive belt between the engine and transmission. Does that sound like the issue? Might that belt be worn and slipping? The user manual says to take it to a service center but I want to try and see if I can fix it myself. I don't know a whole lot about riding mowers just the small engines in them. I don't think this is a hydrostatic type of transmission. Anyway does anyone out there know? Intermittent problem moving. I don't hear any unusual noises coming from it either. Thanks

    I just purchased a Husqvarna 138 CT riding mower. The brake both stops the tractor and engages the hydrostatic drive. Two issues: First trying to accelerate [from stop] is jerky and like riding a bronco! Pressing the brake abruptly stops the tractor with excessive force. Driving is terrible; jerking onto motions and lurching to a stop! Second issue is the excessively loud [squealing] sound the belt makes; engaging the drive! Now I have a new tractor that squeaks. bucks and jumps, all for the neighbors to enjoy! Is belting dressing an opinion? Can the belt tension be adjusted to smooth acceleration and reduce squeal?

    Never had that problem, however I used to have a LA125 mower. I had religiously changed the oil & did the maintenance. With just over 300 hours, the Brigs engine started smoking. Took it to the dealer & they didn't help any. It got to the point that every time I mowed, I'd have to add oil, and about every third time I mowed, I'd have to clean the spark plug. Finally I took it to the junk yard, and bought a Bad Boy ZTR with a Kohler engine.

    Okay that's all well and fine but my mower drives and backs up *sometimes*. I have found that if I give it a little push out bounce on it with a go thrust( you don't want to drive by with your kids while I'm mowing) it will kick out into gear so to speak.
    But lately even that doesn't work. It is a hydrostatic transmission if that makes any difference. But I would assume that key missing would either be full on or full off not sometime-ish drive

  • @adamnye7375

    You are a legend! 3 of your videos helped me fix the key missing after I fixed a tire. Fixed my deck not engaging. Now to find out why when it go into reverse with the pro on it wants to stall out! Again thank you so much!
    Update: it was the reverse safety switch on the dash board. Working like a top!

How does one trouble shoot the problem. The blade does sometime continue to spin when disengaged. Any videos or suggestions.

I knew about the key, but just got so excited to see if TireJect would really fix a dry rotted tire It slipped my mind😥 the tireject worked but the mower wouldn’t move! I’ll check to see if the key is in there In the morning! If it’s not, I have some key stock from losing them before. Thanks Steve, I think you may have just given a 20 year old Simplicity a new lease on life!

Now it’s gotten worse, and now it does not go anywhere, it struggles and makes a noise but I go no where and I don’t know why

    • @StevesSmallEngineSaloon

      It is actually not a solid axle. If it was it would be "posi track" and when you turned on the lawn, one wheel would tear the grass apart....
