  • 1988 Iroc-Z LS1/T-56 Swap, I'm gauging interest on possibly selling it. I have it listed here. The tune needs to be gone through so it will idle right off a cold start. 6:43 for those that want to hear the car run instead of my trap lol.

    There are two set bolts that are the culprit for the column wobble. My 87 had the same issue, I was about to replace the column, then I saw it. There are no factory lock washers on those set bolt so, over time they loosen and let the column wobble. Bought the little tool it needed, put a lock washer on each and, it works like a champ now. Was a $20 fix.
    Nice looking car by the way. It's good to see people taking care of these beauties.

      plan on about 4-5 k for engine and trans(t56 is almost $3000 itself)then you need a fuel system,an exhaust system,electronics to run the LS.you need specific mounts for an ls,you need specific headers for an ls.
      you need to find a clean car,then you also need a rear end capable of utilizing more power without grenading.
      in 99% of cases its way cheaper buying a car that is already converted,im sticking with sbc gen 1 for now in my 1986 trans am and will save until i can buy a good newer,low mileage ls1-ls2 and a t56.

    • @haydenwaits6047
      @haydenwaits6047 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      that is 100 percent wrong my friend you can buy a good t56 at a junkyard all day for 700 and plus i only paid 800 for a 4.8 with harness and the computer and all the injectors and stuff so you can do it cheap you just have to dig and yes a 4.8 is an ls no lip about that ive seen those 4.8s stomp ls1's anyway i did a swap for 3k but i was patient and watched for good deals and went to small town u pull its lol

    • @trillrifaxegrindor4411
      @trillrifaxegrindor4411 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      i can personally guarantee if you lined up 25 guys who did an ls swap you are the lowest priced one out of all of them and chances are you are forgetting several things that would push the budget closer to reality.how much was your ecm flash and harness rewire?.line me up with a junkyard that sells t56 transmissions in canada for under $800 and im there,these deals only seem to happen in remote unique parts of the world that are nowhere near were i live and are more like unicorn farts than actual reality.also imo 4.8s are too weak for low end if you are going through the headache of a complete swap.
      yes they make a reasonable amount of torque but so does a tpi,you are doing this to get MORE not the same.

    • @haydenwaits6047
      @haydenwaits6047 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      i paid 60 for the flash and i thinned the harness myself..and you are wrong about 4.8s but this is in the usa and in the us i can buy a wrecked tahoe for 1500 all day

    • @Irocnrollz
      @Irocnrollz  10 ปีที่แล้ว

      First off thanks for viewing the video, appreciate all the support. Far as gauges go, Oil pressure gauge is pretty straight forward, you need to get an adapter to fit your original oil sending unit to Aluminum block, this should be straight forward. Water temp is the same as well, just make sure you have an adapter to mate it too the block. far as wiring to the fuel tank goes, i left that to the experts ( A Guy from thirdgen.org did the main wiring harness for me, Pocket was his screen name) Best of luck to you !!!

    The total amount was around 13k, that was me buying the car intially, swaping in the LS1/T-56 Rebuilding the motor, parts etc...

    I know this is a older video, but what harness did you use in the swap?

    • @Irocnrollz
      @Irocnrollz  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      I used a 98 ls1 and the original 88 iroc-z harness. I sent them both to a guy named "Pocket" on 3rdgen.org to have them grafted together. All the gauges work with the exception of the tach (which just needed a resistor to read right.

    How's the low end and over all deliverance of power throughout the rpm band with the 228r? Building a 6.0 to mate to my t56 for an 89 rs

    • @Irocnrollz
      @Irocnrollz  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Pretty Stout man, I keep the LSA lower on this cam to help bring the power in earlier (112lsa) and to get to choping a bitch hard. I went with the Truck 5.3 Heads as well for the smaller combustion chamber to raise the compression as well. It was an amazing cam that made power till about 6500. I would venture to say its a tad small for a 6.0 motor though.

    I'm looking to do an ls1 swap in mine. was it fairly easy to do as far as it mounting up?

    • @Irocnrollz
      @Irocnrollz  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes, I could of ran a bmr tubular k member to make life even easier (for the ac). Thirdgen.org is wealth of information when your ready.

    Did you do most of the swap yourself and at your house? Or was a shop involved?

    • @Irocnrollz

      Did the whole thing at my fathers house, Jacks, Jack stands and engine lift.

    Nice Z man. Ever put it on a Dyno? How good/bad is it on gas? I've got a "91 and have been mulling over my options of doing something similar.

    • @Irocnrollz
      @Irocnrollz  10 ปีที่แล้ว

      You know i never really checked the MPG's. I know it would be high 20's on the highway if it had a good tune on it, 3.27's in 6th gear was barely pulling any rpm's (around 1700 @ 75mph). The car didn't weigh anything ether, like 3100 without me in it at the track.

    • @GenPatton0043
      @GenPatton0043 10 ปีที่แล้ว

      Irocnrollz Nice.That's good news cuz I don't want something just for the track.
      Now, let me ask you this, did you have any issue with the engine actually fitting on the mounts and under the hood in general? I ask, because one person had told me once that they had a battle putting an LT1 in his '91 RS. On top of that, I read the exact same thing in a Hot Rod (?) mag some years back. I forget what some of the issues were but I do remember the headers had to be custom bent in a certain manner and something else. Its been awhile. =P

    • @Irocnrollz
      @Irocnrollz  9 ปีที่แล้ว

      GenPatton0043 Well The LS Swap scene has come along way, there is custom parts already made by people that make life alot easier. headers,motor mounts etc. The only custom thing I had to do make the engine fit (This was purely optional) was pocket the k-member for the Stock AC compressor. Other than that you might have to clearence the passenger side rear coil pack to clear the Dryer cover. Good luck man !
