1985 IROC Z28 BRAND NEW

  • Anyone that would like to see what happened to this car after I sold it should visit www.thirdgen(dot)org. Go to the message boards and do a search for "4.3 mile IROC-Z". There are informative comments along with videos and pictures of the car cleaned up and running. All the people that have commented how much work would be needed to clean it up and get it running are proved wrong. The car was sold by that owner over a year ago at a Mecum auction for $27K and has yet to surface again.

    I was a mechanic at a Chevrolet dealer's garage during the time this car came out. All of us in the shop got to check in new cars and prep them for sell. The IROC's paid more because there was more to getting them ready. At 7:29 minutes the man talking says he doesn't know why the passenger side doesn't have plastic on it. The drivers side has plastic on it to protect it from getting dirt or grease on the interior panel between the factory and the dealer. The passenger side didn't require any plastic. I got to check in a 1987 Buick GNX also. The best part was taking those cars for a test drive to make sure everything was working as it should.

    Well now wait a second, if this car has been untouched and it's still in pristine, ''new'' condition... Why does it not have factory wheels? Something seems fishy. I come from a big Chevrolet family, I had some of my kin take a look, and they all agree. We know a lot about Chevrolet and reading the comments you do as well. It makes me proud seeing so many fellow Chevrolet brothers and sisters on TH-cam. My grandfather owned Novas, my dad owned these, and of course me being the new, younger generation took a liking to... the Corvette. I love Corvette's so much I even made a song about one. Could you please take a listen and help a young kid out? If you liked the song come back and like this comment so everyone knows it was worth the short listen!

      My buddy Jason at Katech turned me on to this incredible find. A brand new 1985 Camaro IROC was purchased right off the delivery truck from the factory and put into storage for 24 years.
      The wheels were to be swapped with with aftermarket but the owner never got around to it. Ah... If I didn't already have 2 vettes, a supercharged SS Silverado, a chopper and my restored '89..."

    Honestly if I'd of owned it I would have cleaned it up and got it back mint and then drove it every single day thereafter.I hate guys who buy cars for their low miles just so they can stare at them all day everyday.Cars are meant to be driven,I understand how you would feel quilty putting miles on a car with so little on it but I'd feel even more quilty for not letting it soak up those miles like it was intended to do.

      @MrSteveo114 7 ปีที่แล้ว +12

      Alvaro Lopez don't get me wrong I understand the mindset these people have but its just not something I could do personally.For me a car is meant to be driven,that tachometer was put in that car to go up and not sit still.
      I purchased a Toyota Chaser from Japan awhile back with only 34,000km on the clock.So many people were telling me not to drive it because of the low miles and its unbelievable clean condition.I just laughed and said"care and attention is all this car needs to remain flawless and that's exactly what I'll give it"
      Well it just clicked over to 250,000km's the other day and it still runs perfect and looks better than it ever did before!People tend to forget that a mint car can always be a mint car if only you are willing to keep it that way,keeping a car mint doesn't require parking it in a heated garage all day and never driving it.
      There's nothing sadder to me than seeing a car not driven.

      To my knowledge this had the LB9 I think it was called. The LG4 was an earlier motor. Btw to the 305's defense when modified it reaches the same hp/L as a modified 350 so then it becomes more of a matter of more displacement.

    Wow, all the hateful comments and downing of this amazing find. For those who claim 'a modern Kia could outrun it', I have to be one old enough to remember when these were the 'style', and I hate to break it to you kids, but one of the first things many did was pull that 275-hp 305 and drop in 400+ 'replacements' with a Borg-Warner T10. These cars were low 15's stock, the 5-speeds could get into the high 14's, and I don't know a Kia yet that can do this for $16k and with a clean-up 30 years later, turn $27k at a Meccam's Auction with a minimal clean-up investment. FYI, the 64-1/2 Mustangs were almost all 6-cylinder 'economy' cars, too - they were (and are) STILL an investment. Go play with your 'good-for-one-year' iPhone version whatever.

Bought it off the lot at a small local dodge dealership in 1992 for I believe $5,800! Flawless shape with the good 16'' rims, T-tops, and I had a pussy magnet installed (not really but kinda lol)! Had no troubles going thru girls. SHIIIT now I'm gonna have to start shopping for one again! It was real fast! I moved fro iowa to cali when I was 18yrs old not knowing a single person there! Once I got there I traded for a PERFECT midnight smoke green Mustang 5.0 gt hatchback! I'm NOT a ford fan whatsoever but I had always wanted one! Mustang "felt quicker" when driving... But hands down my iroc wudda walked it!! Now Im older and have totally redone an 80' Malibu! Sleeper look but fun to mess with young kids in dad's car! They never expect what happens when they pull up and say green let's go!! awwhhh to go back to the high school days!! Best Days of ANYONES life! To bad we never believed that when we were that age huh?!?! bEe--

    I'm way more interested in the story of how and why it ended up getting put away like that.
    It didn't even have the dealer prep work done to it, as the front air dam is still in its packaging and the plastic wrap is everywhere, and it wasn't a rare or special enough model at the time for anyone (sane) to want to preserve like that either. And what happened to the original wheels?
    Still, its a great find and a piece of history.

  • @WildSuns42
    @WildSuns42 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    I worked in the new car dept as a tech prepping and checking the new cars as they came from the factory at a chevy dealership in costa mesa ca the year that these first came out.... So for me to see one again after all these years with the sticker etc still on it is really a trip... When the very first few of the IROC's started coming in they all had some issue that made the check engine light be on/stay on... Its been a long time since then and I don't recall all the details exactly but as I recall it was a known issue on all of them but was deemed not a real problem. more of a malfunction in the check engine light itself. An official service bulletin had not been put out yet on how to correct it but there were people who had already bought and paid for there cars and wanted them.. So, and I don't know if this happened at all dealerships or only at the one I worked at but the order came down for me to just disconnect the check engine light and sign off on the cars and let them go... I can understand the logic there at least how it was presented to me at that time but still it was my name and word on that paperwork and I did not like at all being forced to say everything was fine with a vehicle when I knew there was some issue and was told to hide it.... Very shortly after that or perhaps at the same time myself and my dirrect boss and another coworker were all talking as another tech was prepping a new pickup when all of us heard something hit the funnel as some oil was being put in. the tech actually working on it saw it was a small nut but was not quick enough to do anything and it went into the engine... We all tried trying to see it in there and the tech who's job it was tried like heck to fish it out with a magnate but nothing worked.. the sales manager came back saying the guy who bought it and was waiting was a real prick and pitching a bitch so the call was made to just let him take it and deal with any issues in warranty if problems arose... You know, I can then and now see the logic in those calls. But my word means something to me and I just could not live with being forced to do things I thought not right so I quit that job, partly over those IROC's..... Seeing this brings that all back up... Really my only point here is i sure wonder if when they get it started if that check engine light is going to be stuck on or not..... Im not really sure what the first year was and maybe this is later so it would not apply... but a bit of inside trivia for anyone interested anyways..... I know and see all the time a 69 shelby gt350 thats been burried in a garage for over 20 years and looks all orig and flawless under all the dust... I hope I get to post a video of it one day if i ever talk the guy into pulling it out....

    When that car came out i wanted one so bad it hurt . My rich Uncle bought both my girl cousins brand new Irocs we all went to the same high school i drove a old mazda pickup i found in a backyard . The day they got em both of them bitched and cried literally tears because they weren't the right color no joke . I realized at that moment rich kids suck I bought a used one years later It took me years to rebuild it , wile i worked at a sawmill all week and fought MMA in casinos on weekends . It wasn't as nice as theres but knowing how hard i worked and the pain and hard times i went thru to earn it every drive was nothing but pure happyness and pride . Just recently i had to sale my GSXR 1000 I rebuilt . It was my baby but a family member got seriously sick so i sold it . I live 30 minutes past Seattle and im trying to find a good deal on another sport bike now ive done it before ill do it again . Its awsome to see someone finding a treasure like this congrats fellas.

    I'm confused as to why anyone would think this is fake? It has roller transport steel wheels the interior clearly shows no wear or sun damage, ofcourse it won't be flawless the car has still existed on earth since 1985

    • @jnf91
      @jnf91 8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      +jamison s They didn't ship with steel wheels-they shipped with the aluminum wheels with the centers in a box in the hatch area. PDI'd many new GM cars in my day.

      +jamison stagaard General Motors. Actually, out here it was Jack Cooper Transport to the dealers. The point is, this car was delivered to the original dealer with the aluminum wheels. This is no way suggests this car is not legitimate-it simply had it's original wheels removed for whatever reason.

      What I meant was over all these years the car could have gone through many hands, my uncle at one point bought an 80's Camaro about 5 years ago from a wealthy man who bought it new and put it in a garage. My uncle bought it from him with plastic on the seats and all and sold it within a few hours. Who's to say this hasn't been shipped to different people and gone through different hands in all these years even while in that shipping container. At some point someone thought to put crap wheels on for transport.

    Amazing that this video is almost ten years old and people still trying to claim its fake. The car is real. Original owner sold the wheels to fund the racecar project he planned for this car. Front splitter was in the backseat. Those didn't get installed until PDI at the dealer. Yes it was possible to refuse PDI, therefore you got the car with all of the plastic inside, etc. TPI was an option on IROC in 85, rear discs were option on IROC in 85, 145 speedo wasnt until mid year 86. The car now sits in a small museum in Tennessee.

    7:30 factories usually dont put protective wrapping on the passenger side because most of the inspections are done on the drivers side, the wrapping is there mainly to keep the factory workers footprints out of the carpet and to keep them from scratching something while working.
