@@KindredGh0st Because the world’s going EV.
Many countries are banning ICE vehicle sales in the near future, and a number of manufacturers have already pledged to stop making combustion engine vehicles by a certain date. We can see that trend making its way into the motorcycle industry with more and more electric and hybrid motorcycles being introduced. Harley would be silly not to keep up with the competition in investing and developing electric bikes. If they want to compete on the global stage, they’re going to have to follow suit.
Yeah they can still make combustion engines for markets that havent agreed on a ban, but is there really any point in still investing and developing combustion engines when those markets are just going to get smaller and smaller and eventually fuel prices wont be affordable for the average joe because oil companies will have switched their time and investments into renewables and gas will be reserved for heavy vehicles.
Its just my opinion anyway. I dont personally believe electric is the way forward nor is it any better.

    Arrowhead Harley-Davidson Peoria Az $26,083.00

When motorcycles are priced as much as cars, it's a VERY hard sell for the younger generation to purchase. The age Jerry is in, that's who they have always targeted, but as generations started getting older they started selling trikes. As that generation gets older and no longer can ride those...Harley will die off within 10-15 yrs. Unless they drop the prices or introduce a new model, like the Street Fighter / Bronx, say good bye to Harley Davidson. I’m glad Harley is trying to change its culture. For too long it’s been dominated by 1% gang bangers and hog groups full of boomers. What happens when them and their close minds die? What does Harley do then? Not everybody these days is scared of people different than them. So Harley has to recreate their culture to accommodate the riders that will be in their 40s in ten twenty years. Until then, they need to get em hooked on the culture and used bikes so they can age into their more expensive bikes. And most new riders don’t appreciate gang bangers and boomer hog groups.

There are a lot of clubs that are just about riding. For some reason though, bikers in general and Harley riders specifically refuse to call these 1% thugs what they are. They’re criminals and thugs and gang bangers who don’t want to get hit with rico so they claim. Their club isn’t involved in crime. An entry level bike is a used bike. Do you want a new Hyundai base model car, or a three year old Mercedes that’s still going to last longer and have tons more character and smiles per miles?
Harley-Davidson has put out some bikes in the past couple of years that have competed, and even beaten, the best bikes in their class. The CVO Road Glide ST is the best all around motorcycle I’ve ever ridden. If you take money of the equation, I wouldn’t trade it for any other modern motorcycle.
It’s called evolution. It’s why they’ve survived when others haven’t. If you don’t think they have evolved over the years and always ruffled a few feathers on the way, then you don’t know anything about their history.
The Pan America alone is all you need to show that they are the best they’ve ever been. To compete, and beat, the BMWs with their very first modern entry into that class. Wow.
There is no other Motor Co. with the legacy, heart, soul, and passion that they have.
Are they overpriced? 1000%. But at the end of the day, there’s nothing like riding a Harley-Davidson. The good, the bad, and the ugly have a history like no other and evoke an emotion in all of us that can’t be duplicated. It doesn’t mean that we can’t appreciate all of the other bikes out there. But they’ll never evoke the same feelings that joining the HD family will. It’s America, bitches.

The young demographic is buying and modifying older Dynas and FXRs. Turn the Nightster into a modern Dyna. It’s already close. That’s how you get them to take the next step to a new bike. The stunt riding badasses doing burnouts and wheelies will create plenty of poser sales as well.

I think also is the mindset around Harley. The street was out and never sold because what did people say?.... oh that's not a real harley! Just like people did with the vrod. I love harley but at the same time, Japanese manufacturers as well as others have been in the beginner bike game forever so for the money as well as resale value for beginner bikes, other manufacturers are the way to go. Most beginner bikes are sold after people get comfortable with riding and I was able to buy a ninja brand new, let the wife learn for 3 years and then sell it for $1,700 less than what I paid for it. Probably couldn't do that with a harley

    • @aaronzavala7464
      @aaronzavala7464 หลายเดือนก่อน

I also think the new sportsters are a hard sell because the same mindset. Although a cool bike, for a little more you can get the softail standard and get a traditional harley to learn on and it's big enough to keep for a long time

Good discussion. The thing I don’t understand is if they were trying to target the younger age groups that have less purchasing power, why would they do away with the classic Sportster and Dyna models. “Entry level” (under 15-20k OTD) bikes that have the old school HD look that has already been heavily marketed in tv and movies. At the very least they should have a few more “entry level” Softails with various affordable color and customization options. It seems like the costs of all the bikes are going up which makes them only affordable to a smaller demographic. If they did this well, they’d likely sell a lot of bikes to the younger demographic and perhaps even the older demographic as a second bike. 🤷‍♂️.

Only reason I bought my '23 FXLRS is because I wanted to toy around with the thing before the thing is gone. It's fun and a motorcycle is just a toy...nothing more. However, the HD is really a piss-poor design in terms of reality. But they're still damned fun to play around with. HD is going to ride of into the sunset if they don't come up with something new. My bet is that they won't and will keep milking the cow until the udders fall off. I am noticing that there are absolutely no shortages of any HD now...They're jamming last year's models down our throats with incentives. Hmm?? I have a last year model. Charge thousands extra for a paint job? What a gaff. I think they're headed into oblivion.

The days of the $3995 883 are long gone. The Bronx? Saw it at javits a few years ago. Never came. Harley had Buell, and killed it. It was ahead of its time. Who knew that the naked bike market would come to life? IMO lose the softail standard and breakout, cut back on the CVOs, bring back the basic superglide instead of the low rider s.

I’m in the early 30’s. Been with Harley since late 20’s. My first bike was a XG750 and it was not easy for form the $$. Even less for my current FXLRST. But despite the cost. I bought Harley because I like American bikes. I like the culture etc…. You don’t get a HD because it’s a cheaper option.

I have no love for the "motor company" no matter how many silly events they do. I just love machinery. They're going after the wallets of people that blindly worship them. The HD experience, to me has always been a bit suspicious. They love to play the shell game and always have the vacuum at the ready for you wallet. No trust in them.

Harley can't make an affordable entry level bike. They never have. They need to embrace being a luxury brand. Make luxury motorcycles like the CVO and luxury electric bikes for yhe tech bros. Walking away from the current branding isnt the worst move either. The current riders will grumble but their average age is 51. They may not be riding anyway.

Good points from both of you 👍🏻 Sadly I feel like younger generations are just not as interested as they once were and /or older generations have not passed the torch ch to their kids. It may cause more swirl in the business to focus on making cheaper bikes, Porsche does not make a cheaper car for people to get into Porsche and the same could be said for any strong brand. This is where the used market comes into effect you can pick up a used 883 to experience Harley. It’s about brand positioning if Harley wants to create/maintain position as the leader of touring or performance vtwins in the industry they will remain focused on what sells. Perhaps shifting the revmax production overseas will enable more efficient production and save costs of the US made touring bikes or makes room for possible new cruiser or touring model. The avg. age of customers has remained around 45yrs old the cruiser or tour is where to focus. As you both said they listened to customers on the latest models and I am sure will continue. At the end of the day these are still expensive toys for most part and economic pressures constricting business is a battle all over not just with Harley Davidson.

Being a Pan America owner I follow all kinds of international groups or forums. The bikes made overseas have less trouble. I wonder if combing the Rev Max with the M8 line causes some issues. Maybe they should be ran on different lines, with different specialists. Maybe that is what they are taking a year to fix. My bike lost 12k in value in 2 years @ the same dealer I bought it from, and serviced it. I though buying a HD it would have held up a little better in the resale space. The way I looked at it I just paid more to have that HD badge on my tank. Not ready for a cruiser or bagger so that kind of keeps me off the HD sales floor. I love my Pan America :)

Harley should offer a bare bones basic like bobberish bike for new riders and hell make and optional program to have it shipped to dealers in boxes and give the new riders the opportunity to assemble their own bike with some assistance with a harley davidson tech of course but offer a price drop for the diy program. It gives the opportunity for the new rider to know how to work on their bike and makes them about it a bit more while getting a price cut.
