Jeff Su - Just found your site and really enjoyed the first video. I'm working on transitioning my LinkedIn Profile for more exposure and your tips will certainly help. Thank you!
Hello Jeff: Very useful tips. Quick question - I often find that I've plenty of things to say/share on certain topics but the overwhelming "noise" on the platform puts me off. I end up doubting whether my content is *that* helpful or unique? How did you tackle it when you first started? PS: This is the first time I decided to comment on a video in over 10 years and I hope this speaks volume about the quality of your content! Awesome work!
Good question my friend! (1) I unfollowed everyone I didn't want to see posts from (i.e posts I personally didn't find valuable or practical) and (2) I started by sharing my own experience with a key takeaway that might be applicable for those people who were just like me 1-2 years ago! Thanks for the comment!!
Yes, invaluable info! No surprise, coming from your channel. I hadn’t touched my LinkedIn since I started my role and I’d been wondering if it was OK to use peer review feedback on LinkedIn. If this was medium I’d give this so many claps.
Great video. Just wanted clarification, which app do you use to write the external blog post that you mentioned and how would you share those on LinkedIn?
Ah, if only I didn't have to scuttle my whole LinkedIn account as a bargain for not getting terminated. I'll see if I can run something on my own without work history, but great recommendations as well. I also take to heart that every Friday afternoon, I try to update my work document. Anything I have from my to-do lists go into a Google Doc sheet (now Notion) so I can have it handy. This is also good to do weekly since you never know what might happen. Instead of panicking because you can't remember what you did, you can reduce the stress by having everything already written down. You just need to "add water" and add some description to the write up.
Wait so why did you have to delete your LinkedIn account 😂 re:update work documents - that's such a good habit to have...I tell myself I should do it but I find myself forgetting....
@@JeffSu as far as the account goes, newly merged companies don't tend to like employees who go on their own. It is my fault for not being politically savvy enough. I usually find that at least having my to-do lists in me is good enough to jog the memory. Hey Jeff Su, do you know how I could get a recommendation for a volunteer position? (The Drop Down Menu of Position at the Time: only allows Work Experience and University)
Hey Jeff, great video as always and I'll be implementing them asap! Just wanted to clarify, my website and hyperlink doesn't show on my about page. It's only visible under "Contact Info". Do I need to turn on creator mode to make that visible on my profile? I checked all settings and nothing seems to work.
Hi Sayee - That's a good question. I should have checked since I always had Creator Mode turned on, sorry about that! LinkedIn help site said you don't need to have creator mode turned on (www.linkedin.com/help/linkedin/answer/a548010/add-a-website-to-your-profile?lang=en) but maybe try turning it on? Let me know what you find!
I am always never confident to put my role since what the definition of my role in my organization is different than what general definition means (ex: business analyst, product manager). How do you overcome this? Would you prefer writing based on what public recognizes or writing my literal role defined by my organization?
I've been in the same situation before... do not get attached to the title you are given at your company. Your profile is meant to serve your branding and your role should reflect what you do in a way that is also recognized by others in the field. In other words, never lie or stretch it too much but if it's a fair/similar role/title, go with the one that suits your brand and career goals the best. You can be in a situation where the company uses customized titles that are only recognized inside the company or working on tasks that belong to a different role but your title is never changed.
+1 to what Joe said! And I don't think there's a "conflict" with having 2 titles. Just use the internal one within your company (i.e. within an internal directory or introducing yourself to colleagues) and keep the more "popular" phrasing for external use. For example, internally I introduce myself as "AppDev Marketing Lead" (which means nothing to you), but externally what I do falls under "Product Marketing Manager" Does that make sense?
@@JeffSu in the public profile settings, where we can toggle on/off the sections, it's just not there. I even though the LinkedIn's system is inconsistent in different regions, but I can see profiles from the same country/city with Featured visible and they are not my connections. Weird.
I think the most annoying thing about LinkedIn are the annoying content creators. All I ever see are polls, people saying "I pray you get your dream job", people talking about tech layoffs as if that's not a normal thing in tech, and the ones who humble brag about their accomplishments.
What do you think, is it possible to write a cover letter on Linkedin in a vacancy, where is easy apply? That is, they only ask for a resume to be sent. I glue a cover letter and a resume and send it as a resume. Is it worth doing or not?
Hi Jeff, what would you suggest for someone who is looking for work in community services/health, but also has a blog about digital marketing/content creation on the side? How would you optimise your profile page? I am currently not making enough on the blog to quit a full-time job. I am currently seeking new employment as well because I want to leave my current workplace. 🤔
I have shout-outs from emails and "15fives" (online weekly performance management tool) that I have accumulated over the past two years from my job. Would it be too cheesy to place them in a collage-like file and have that in my featured section? I've asked a few people from my work for LinkedIn recommendations but haven't had anyone follow through and complete it, and I don't want to nag at this point. Thoughts?
Both those ideas sound great Ari! I think recommendations would be more meaningful and if you're having trouble getting people to follow through, you can pick 3 close colleagues and send gentle reminders and even offer to write them recommendations as well. Oh and Happy New Year! 😁

It's definitely a personal decision and I think there's a balance. My TH-cam videos are on snorkeling and eventually scuba and I think that's appropriate, but my Instagram is more personal and I would not link it.

If possible can you please share your 1 whole day routine?
Might be in a future video my friend 😁
please create tutorial for hostgator hosting
Sorry what's hostgator?
Wish I had seen this earlier, mine is looking sad now haha
Hi, can you recommend some free mindmapping?
I've heard good things about Mindnode but I don't really mindmap myself
OMG, I didn't know you follow Chunbuns! She's my sister! 🤯
Wait what?? No way! The world is such a small place. Big fan of hers. Happy New Year by the way Jenn 😁
@@JeffSu Small world, indeed. Happy New Year (and another new year that’s coming soon).
How and what on earth are we suppose to add details in our job titles in LinkedIn? It can't obviously be what's on our resume. So how's it done?
Tons of useful information, with great energy, sexy smile and cutest boy around what could you ask for more?
The tip of repurposing performance reviews is awesome.
Just watch it!
Glad to see you back here Casi 😁
where to add #hashtags below the name?
You have to enable Creator mode
kahma profile pics are so realistic. No wonder employers stop to take a second look.
You forgot the 5th group: people who cannot figure out how to delete their god forsaken spam factory account
hahahaha good point!
Jeff you are awesome but don't ever show this video to Indian managers. If I ask any of them to copy paste my review on LinkedIn...I will be in the HR cabin next day, under the suspicion of switching job.😂😂😂
lolll
I disagree to add personal social media account to LinkedIn.
Personal life should be separated from work life
I totally agree with this!
@@UnicornPizzawe will be susceptible to doxxing if linking up personal social media to LinkedIn.....
It's definitely a personal decision and I think there's a balance. I use each platform for different messaging and I think it's important to discern how they can positively tie in with your professional life. My TH-cam videos are on snorkeling and eventually scuba and I think that's appropriate, but my Instagram is more personal and I would not link it.
@@jamesmoore4023 so if people make good use of social media platforms for business/mktg, surely they can add to linkedin
But what I'm doubtful about is personal account of social media platforms
I love how there's so much engagement from Hazel's first comment! First off, +1 agree with you Hazel, I actually do NOT like seeing personal posts on LinkedIn
I should have clarified in the video: if you're driving traffic because you're generating valuable content (e.g. some Instagram or Twitter accounts are about personal finance or investing tips), I would encourage that person to link their accounts 😁
My skills section was just umm skills for too long
You also have the students who are building up their network.
That's true Romy!
Please review my profile and point out the gaps, I am job seeker
Wbu the AFK people?
These tips still apply 😁
I have to laught: performance review!!! Are you still in the XX century or what? That is old history!
We have bi-annual performance reviews haha
Slow down kiddo
I can't :(
LinkedIn influencers are the worst - literally adding zero value with vague bs.
Hopefully you still like me 🥲
@@JeffSu It's not personal, hate the game not the players but having thousands of these copycats posts without substance is going to hurt LinkedIn in the long-term
@@user-hs2hd7wp9g No worries! I didn't take any offense at all!
That's a great video, but please make sure you explain it slow
Haha thanks for the feedback Bakshi! Have you tried slowing the video speed down? 😁
This dude should be selling used cars ... he can squeeze 10,000 words per minute, holy moly!
But don't used cars salespeople have a bad rep 😭
These tips are gold, thanks for sharing your knowledge!
LinkedIn is so confusing, this really helps break it down simply
Good luck!
Finally taking the time to optimize, wish me luck guys
Best of luck!
Great tips! Really need to update my profile.
Good luck!
