I can vouch for this great topic by Jeff Su! I basically tried it for fun sometime ago ...then I was like damn it's good! Then I pasted the job posting/description for a position I wasn't really that "qualified" for and asked AI to tailor my resume toward it. Chat GPT made some really great correlations between my experience/skills and that job that I wouldn't have thought of! *Caution you MUST check the accuracy of the info -such as listing a degree you don't actually have.
ChatGPT will help land someone an interview and/or job/promotion. But being able to perform for the job is what counts at the end. I would hate to hire someone that was able to answer questions beautifully but can't even handle the slightest pressure from a project's deadline. ChatGPT is a double edge sword.
The thing is, I don't apply for a job I couldn't do. Yet I could apply to hundreds of jobs and not get a single one. Stuff like this is what gives you the edge.
@@natalieeuley1734 And usually you don't get the job because of someone else that talks a big game but can't actually do the job. ("It's the circle of Life ...")
You're absolutely right, but the interview process doesn't always reflect the actual job. I've resorted to using an AI tool to help me in interviews, mainly with those obscure technical questions that have nothing to do with my day-to-day work. It's not ideal, but it's helped me get to the point where I can actually demonstrate my abilities.
I sincerely would like to know how this comment isn’t true. It does seem as though the majority of getting an interview is who is better with AI and guessing what the other AI is looking for.
Honestly even if you had money to spend I wouldn't recommend spending on those services since I sincerely the best resumes and cover letters can only be written by yourself (since you know yourself best)
I would avoid resume writers at all costs because they're only focused on money and would write metrics that you didn't do so it would pass the ATS system, and it would be super awkward at the interview if they asked questions about them and you can't deliver a response

@@JeffSu One question, I have after watching your video several times, when I use the prompts, I got great results; however, the bullet points tend to be "I did this", "I optimized this" how can I get ChatGPT to not put so many "I" phrases for my resume bullet points?
Hi Jeff, I love how you not only show the GPT tricks, but also explain the methodology behind it so people can apply the skills to new situations. Greatest online mentor ever! Thanks for your sharing!
This is insane. You are literally automating how to be thoughtful. I had no idea ChatGPT was this powerful, nor how unique this art of "prompting" is. What surprises me the most is how this "prompting" is very human like. It's what I imagine you would say to another human being to extract their best ideas / fullest potential. I am not sure that giving the caveat of "...over 20 years of experience," is needed. The LLM doesn't understand time nor experience that would come from time. The goal of prompting is to set the the discussion in search space that is relevant enabling the model to have better context in which to draw from within the vector embeddings. I would be curious what others thought on this issue.
Unfortunately, the first thing is for him to accept the request. My grandparents got jobs by going to an actual company branch and handing a paper CV to an actual manager, who would then file it in an actual filing cabinet and make an actual decision within the week. What was wrong with that process? Why has it been turned into rocket science?
What is the importance of making a connection and landing a coffee chat? Is it to ask for a job? To see what skills are needed for their role? At what point do you transition to asking "Can you give me a job?"? I guess I am missing the point of making a connection and doing a coffee chat.
I have got calls and messages from HRs and hiring consultancy firms that asks for everything but not what I'm going to do in their company. And even things asked are completely irrelevant.
@@JeffSu Agreed. When I tried to dig deeper into the company's history and other info, it was a mirage. TBH, I daily encounter such jobs in my mailbox and LinkedIn. My experience of 6 years have trained me detect BS.
Awesome. This vide is perfect for the current topic I'm dealing with in my foreign language English class (pupils aged 14-15). I'd like to show the video and go into the nitty-gritty of the pieces of advice you give. Here in Germany, the government is yet uncertain about whether to ban ChatGPT or to incorporate it into lessons. I hope you don't mind.
I used chatgpt to help me with salary negotiation. I made sure I was polite and was only asking for 10% more, had a phenomenal interview. YET, the recruiter next response was to email back saying they rescind their offer... Not sure If I did anything wrong here or if the company are seeings employees as a number instead of valuing them.
That "salary negotiation" conversation was pretty much fantasy. I paused the video a few times and read the whole thing. The job seeker basically said, "I have seen that the upper limit of salaries in this field is x. I would like to get paid that." The interviewer replies, "sorry, our budget is fixed. The salary being offered is y." The job seeker replies, "Well I won't accept the job unless you give me something better than y." Up to this point, it's all pretty reasonable. But this is where is veers into the realm of fiction. The interviewer then lists the non-salary benefits that come with the job, like number of paid days off and 401(k) match policy. The interviewer offers to negotiate on THOSE aspects of the compensation package, but won't budge on the salary. THAT would never happen. Those benefits are not unique per employee or tailored to any given employee's comp package. Those are just standard company policies. Recruiters would be insane to offer to negotiate on those benefits, and a job seeker would be insane to believe such an offer was trustworthy.
It's a great point R D! To be honest with you, when I was younger and never negotiated anything before, I would still have wanted a "fictional" hypothetical situation like that to prepare myself for the discussion 😁
Essentially people should be looking up back the book for the quick answers to questions they couldn't address themselves on their own. People who uses ChatGPT to the level recommended by the video are often those who are always looking for quick answers with no real understanding of the core subject. I'm sure we all had a colleague whom wouldn't spend some time on youtube for an excel trick, instead they asks someone for a quick solution that they have asked not too long ago. lol. It's probably a great way for people to get into a company but I bet hiring managers will be having a hard time hiring the right person given how advanced this technology is and improvement yet to come.
Exactly what I was thinking. Imagine going out of your way to meet someone who act nothing like the way you expected them to from their job application/initial interactions with them online. How many times would I let people do that to me before start rejecting all requests?
@@eggriceu In my opinion, if use of AI is wide spread in the interview process where applicants show up with memorized speech and answers to potential questions and/or almost every applicants start to ask questions in the exact same wording, then the society as a whole may move back to on-spot tests that's very specific to the company therefore it's not easily found online. Then comes the problem of people claiming companies are using interviews to get free ideas rather than hiring. There is never a perfect solution to every problem in life, simply because life isn't perfect. it's the society that gotta weight the pro/con of everything in life. no one individual can change the world, we're trending toward more usage of AI for quick assistance in everything in life. it's like as if google is alive and filter out the ads and promoted links you see on top. we always wanted it, but what are the repercussion. lol.
we've come to a society, were pieces of paper determine our lives. rant over, thank you for the video, very informative, i hope to land a job with your help
I don't know if this is a difference between Canada and the US, but Coffee Chats don't work. They can be great for learning what you need to get into a field when you're younger, but they won't help if you need a job. Even if you're just building a network, most companies have super strict rules as to how hiring is conducted. In many of the companies I've worked in, even hiring managers don't have any real power; they just make the final suggestion to HR.
Generic prompt you can use to improve your resume for a specific company, job title, and job description: You are an experienced career coach with over 20 years of experience helping job seekers optimize their resumes. Focus on highlighting relevant skills, experiences, and accomplishments that showcase my suitability for this role. Additionally, suggest specific keywords and phrases to include that reflect the language used in the job description."
7:00 - but what if they don't publish their salary in the job description? isn't it a bit too uncomfortable to mention something about salary before the interviewer?
It's a good point, thanks for the feedback! From my perspective the video was more about how important it is to start using ChatGPT during the job search process!
@@JeffSu I think its a really effective video for that and I'll probably use these tips. I think there's also an implied answer in your video, having a great coffee chat / interview kind of can overcome the randomness a little bit. however if you can find a way to use AI to help navigate past the resume black-hole stage into actual conversations with people, I'd watch that video! as someone without tons of professional connections and references i do tend to get stuck in the stage of being a faceless resume.
I'm feeling very old now. I can remember when actually knowing things and being able to communicate them yourself was the way you got a job. Cheating the process by using a machine to think and speak for you seems to be the norm now. The problem of course is that we now have an entire generation stepping into positions of responsibility that know nothing except how to ask a machine to make them look like they know things they in fact know nothing about. We all had better brace ourselves for the fast approaching day when our whole Humpty Dumpty civilization all falls apart and there is no one left in the workforce that has a clue how anything actually works.
Thanks alot for this man, we appreciate the effort put in and this will go a long way, i also love the fact that you keep the conversation going even in the comments, this shows real care, keep it up sir
Good video and examples. Be aware that several companies are starting to look negatively on AI responses for career discussions and interview questions. Several will send assignments as part of the process just to check if you are using an AI tool (using AI content detectors or checking document edit history) to respond to prompts and will reject you based on those answers, even if you only used it as a suppliment to your honest answer.
This is why I recommend people become nurses, doctors or dentists. Then you are always guaranteed a well-paying job and you can start a clinic with very little risk compared to other businesses.
@@salehtaha3550 I really doubt you are a doctor. Just check out any temp-agency and you could easily earn $500k a year as a travel doctor. Maybe you are talking about positions at a hospital in a major city. If you go anywhere rural or to a private clinic, then you will be swimming in jobs.

What is the importance of making a connection and landing a coffee chat? Is it to ask for a job? To see what skills are needed for their role? At what point do you transition to asking "Can you give me a job?"? I guess I am missing the point of making a connection and doing a coffee chat.
After 2-3 coffee chats and you've demonstrated you're someone they're willing to vouch for!
Ok… this guy is absolutely adorable
Hahaha thank you!!
I have got calls and messages from HRs and hiring consultancy firms that asks for everything but not what I'm going to do in their company. And even things asked are completely irrelevant.
Seems scammy to me 😂
@@JeffSu Agreed.
Sure of course Michael. Let me know what your students say!
GENIUS! Thanks for sharing
Thanks!!
Jeff, you're a gift to mankind. Thanks for all these amazing insights!
You're very welcome 😁
I might actually land a job after this. if I do, I'm going to name my firstborn child after you
I'll hold you to it 😁
hey wizdotio, have you tried this personally? has this worked for you?
Hey Jeff, Thanks a lot for your inputs on interview preparation and other skills, as am interviewing these are really helpful tips and guidance ❤
No problem my friend! 😁
Wow. This is really the world we live in now..
I know right? 😂
I'm sorry to hear that Gai! It does sound like you dodged a bullet though!
@@JeffSu Glad to hear I wasn't the only one thinking this 🙏
Thanks so much for all this great advice. I really appreciate it. You misspelled problems in cell B5 of your first 90 days sheet on gumroad.
Wow thanks! Just fixed it :)
That "salary negotiation" conversation was pretty much fantasy. I paused the video a few times and read the whole thing.
The job seeker basically said, "I have seen that the upper limit of salaries in this field is x. I would like to get paid that."
The interviewer replies, "sorry, our budget is fixed. The salary being offered is y."
The job seeker replies, "Well I won't accept the job unless you give me something better than y."
Up to this point, it's all pretty reasonable.
Brilliant video! Good examples. Greetings from Chile
Hello my friend from Chile 😁
you need to start leaving behind affliate links for what you're wearing!
Hahahahahaha I'll try to do that 😂
Essentially people should be looking up back the book for the quick answers to questions they couldn't address themselves on their own.
I know what you mean Steven! I guess I try to make content that caters to everyone 😁
@@JeffSu Your content is good for sure, and I'm very entertained and satisfied with the possibility of what you have illustrated.
There is never a perfect solution to every problem in life, simply because life isn't perfect. it's the society that gotta weight the pro/con of everything in life. no one individual can change the world, we're trending toward more usage of AI for quick assistance in everything in life. it's like as if google is alive and filter out the ads and promoted links you see on top. we always wanted it, but what are the repercussion. lol.
You’re a genius! Thank you. I’m excited to try all of your ideas.
Let me know how it goes!
Wow! Contents like these are free😮

Thank you Jeff ! Your videos are very informative and actionable !

this video is much needed for me in my current job search experience, I really needed a bit more help! Thank you very much!
No problem and best of luck Scottie 😁
You just saved my life (time and money 😅) !
Tks so much for your valuable ideas and explanation. Awesome!
No problem 😁
we've come to a society, were pieces of paper determine our lives. rant over, thank you for the video, very informative, i hope to land a job with your help
Best of luck my friend!
that brush scraping sound you're doing around 3:02 is awful!
Thanks for the feedback!
This is excellent advice!
Glad to hear it!!
Interesting! Probably a difference in culture then!
Hi jeff thanks for everything!
But there is 1 problem in 1:16
There is no “save as pdf” on iPhone!
Can you please provide another method thanks
I would use the web browser for this 😁
I do not understand those influencers who rush to tell too fast what they want express about the topic. Not everyone has english as a mother language.
Thanks for the feedback! It's because I receive feedback like this haha: screenshot.jeffsu.org/47qgh6Ts
thank you brother your videos are aweosme and much appreciated
Anytime my friend 😁
Hey Jeff, can you do a video on how to get past the Workday ATS? there is no video on youtube regarding that, it would also help us, the jobseekers.
I don't recommend worrying about the ATS to be honest
Thanks 😊 for this. It helps.
Glad to hear it!! 😁
Hi Jeff, 從小紅書我追來這裡了!你太棒了好實用🎉
哈哈谢谢你!
Generic prompt you can use to improve your resume for a specific company, job title, and job description:
You are an experienced career coach with over 20 years of experience helping job seekers optimize their resumes. I am applying for a position at Company XXX as a YYY. Based on the following job description (ZZZ), please provide a detailed analysis of how I can tailor my resume to align with the job requirements. Focus on highlighting relevant skills, experiences, and accomplishments that showcase my suitability for this role. Additionally, suggest specific keywords and phrases to include that reflect the language used in the job description."
Wow..I wish I found this sooner. Thank you Jeef.
I wish you did too but hey, better late than never 😂
Loving the content, man! Thanks a ton!!
You're very welcome! Make sure to check out my latest video on ChatGPT and interviews as well 😁
these long ass promts are pretty bs, just use gpt4, heck, use claude 2
Not sure why long prompts are unnecessary for gpt4 or claude 2 😂
7:00 - but what if they don't publish their salary in the job description? isn't it a bit too uncomfortable to mention something about salary before the interviewer?
Wait you should only negotiate if the offer is already on the table though, not before!
Go go Jefffffffffffffffffff!! Best youtuber EVEEERRRRR !!! YOu got a fan in Argentina ,thnaks so much!
Woohooo if I ever visit I'll for sure let you know 😁
im a little confused this video didnt resolve the issue you set up in your intro re: the arbitrariness of how hiring managers judge resumes?
It's a good point, thanks for the feedback! From my perspective the video was more about how important it is to start using ChatGPT during the job search process!
@@JeffSu I think its a really effective video for that and I'll probably use these tips. I think there's also an implied answer in your video, having a great coffee chat / interview kind of can overcome the randomness a little bit.
however if you can find a way to use AI to help navigate past the resume black-hole stage into actual conversations with people, I'd watch that video! as someone without tons of professional connections and references i do tend to get stuck in the stage of being a faceless resume.
@@tarenflores Did the "Networking" tips not help?

I'm feeling very old now. I can remember when actually knowing things and being able to communicate them yourself was the way you got a job. Cheating the process by using a machine to think and speak for you seems to be the norm now. The problem of course is that we now have an entire generation stepping into positions of responsibility that know nothing except how to ask a machine to make them look like they know things they in fact know nothing about. We all had better brace ourselves for the fast approaching day when our whole Humpty Dumpty civilization all falls apart and there is no one left in the workforce that has a clue how anything actually works.
Pretty dark but I see your point 😅
Thanks alot for this man, we appreciate the effort put in and this will go a long way, i also love the fact that you keep the conversation going even in the comments, this shows real care, keep it up sir
Will do, thank you my friend!!
Thank you, Jeff, you are the real MVP 📈
Thank you 😁
hey co5yf3zy8u

Great now I need chat ai to think of questions to ask how to ask better questions
Hahaha a never-ending cycle 😂
loved it. Thanks Jeff, to take out time and help others.
It's my pleasure Aditya 😁
Good video and examples. Be aware that several companies are starting to look negatively on AI responses for career discussions and interview questions. Several will send assignments as part of the process just to check if you are using an AI tool (using AI content detectors or checking document edit history) to respond to prompts and will reject you based on those answers, even if you only used it as a suppliment to your honest answer.
Interesting!! Did you experience this first hand?
@@JeffSu yeah, twice this week in fact! Both were tech companies.
@@JeffSuYup, saw this once
This is why I recommend people become nurses, doctors or dentists. Then you are always guaranteed a well-paying job and you can start a clinic with very little risk compared to other businesses.
Isn't it the same for lawyers and accountants?
Really?
I am a doctor, and I admit your comment is not reliable, especially those days with a so crowded and highly competitive work market.
@@salehtaha3550 I really doubt you are a doctor. Just check out any temp-agency and you could easily earn $500k a year as a travel doctor. Maybe you are talking about positions at a hospital in a major city. If you go anywhere rural or to a private clinic, then you will be swimming in jobs.
aaak than you for your sharing,it's means a lot for me
