This has to be the most helpful video on optimizing your LinkedIn profile that I have found. Straight and to the point. I found your tips very helpful. Thank you!
I can understand that. To be honest, it’s a lot of information but the stuff is really basic, and you can always customize it to how you want. No need to add pressure to yourself. See what works for you!
Do only a few of the tips that are actionable and relevant to where you at, the rest will grow with time. Tweaking your linkedin is an ongoing journey as you develop, it's not a one time thing. So just start with the basics, photo, headline, connections and then spend time on the platform to gradually learn from others
Thanks for the video! My profile contains most of the aspects you suggested already. I get really frustrated when recruiters approach me about positions that obviously don’t fit within my field or qualifications, which has been happening a lot lately. ☹️
Simple and easy to follow. Thank you! I used to get a ton of hits but it has slowed down a little due to increased competition. I’ll def be updating my LI this week.
This is very specific with great recommendations, thank you! I often get people on LI pitching me to do business with them and I don't know them. No indication of any interest in what I do other than them making money for things I'm clearly not interested in. For example, getting a pitch for paid help to get my "first book published" when I have 5 books published. I have 500 plus connections and would like to grow more and be attractive to people coming to me for reasons other than pitching me on their new business ideas which are like spam to me as I don't know their work. Suggestions? You do have wonderful advice and I'm impressed with your style and content.
Good information. Really good, actionable tips. Thank you! I would love to see another video, where you show us some more of what the RECRUITER's view/interface looks like, how it functions, and how they use it. The info you gave us about how the algorithm works, and how recruiters are able to search/filter candidates, is great.
Thanks for the tips, been applying for jobs in LinkedIn for 4 months without any calls or interview and applied for more than 200 jobs till now. Hope things get better after following the optimization techniques.
This was amazing just starting my search for remote work at a tech company and I knew I needed to do some prep work before applying and this video gave so much insight.
Thank you so much!! This video is really helpful. Would love if you could make a video about how to network or how to text strangers on LinkedIn especially recruiters.
Thank you for such useful insights! I'm from Brazil seeking to improve my bio in Linkedin to land a job overseas, preferably in Asia region. Those tips will certanly boost our profiles!!!
Thank you Sakura for this video. It's beneficial to have a look on how recruiters find candidates on LinkedIn and the strategy behind it. Great content!
This was really helpful information direct to the point, but in my case and i'm guessing many others, who are starting out and lack those work experience/recommendations it feels hard to get noticed. Have acquired qualifications now but after twenty years of being a carer, there is nothing to show for it on paper that can make me even be noticed or taken seriously as opposed to my peers at this stage. How can those like me, or career changers, stahp etc coming back/to the scene get to improve their pages to become noticed and approached by hiring managers or recruiters? It's really tough
Being a caregiver has so many job functions. Make a list including compassionate customer care, customized meal preparation, mobility assistance, transportation, wound care, great communication (and any other responsibilities). Don't forget some referrals
This video was so effective, congratulations! It's rare to find a TH-cam channel that gets straight to the point, and doesn't treat the audience like robots. Or see the audience only as possible customers. congratulations!
very informative video, Sakura, thank you!!! I know you quickly touched on this, but I just wanted to confirm again, should the 'job experience' section contain the bullet points of the tasks we did at the company? (just the way it appears on a resume?)
Thanks for the information! It’s very valuable. Question: it’s about recommendations. Let’s say you are a leader, and your personal brand it’s about congruent leadership. Wouldn’t be more valuable to have recommendations of people from your teams stating how good you were leading them instead of your bosses which most of the time don’t even know how good you are leading people? What do you think about that?
@miguelrossier that's a great question. I think context here is what really matters - in this one where specifically your brand is about leadership, I'd consider many perspectives such as someone who's been under your leadership or mayve happy clients you have worked with, etc. Too real about your bosses not knowing what we do on day-to-day haha!
Thank you so much for the video I will be following these steps but my only concern is that I have no work experience besides inservice training. 🤦🏽♀️ I’ve been job hunting since 2020 till date, no call back, no interview invitation even for internships… Hopefully your tips will make a difference on my profile. Once again thank you 🙏🏽
Hey - don't worry too much about it. You're just starting out and you have to start somewhere. Take the advice as you see fit to your own life, you will get there!
Suggestion/Question: How about some ideas on how to answer behavior questions in a interview in a way that you would stand out to the hiring team... I know that the interviewee puts a lot of work in prep but sometimes feel the (prepared) answers might not help you stand out in the crowd. What- with your experience as a recruiter - would help?
Hey! This was a great video! I wanted to know if recruiters looking for freelancers use the same method. I am looking to attract clients with my profile rather than the average inhouse recruiter. Is the process the same or is there anything that I should add? Thanks!
Oh this is a fantastic question - I actually don't have experience with that so I can't say for sure. I think freelancers are usually hired through different sites like Fiverr or Upwork, or through agencies & connections, so maybe widening your platforms may be a good idea. Otherwise, honestly I think this advice may fall a little flat for you because I focused on the basics: making yourself marketable in general, rather than building a brand and standing out. It's a good place to start, but you I assume should focus on building relationships. Hope it helps!
@@Sakurambo Hey again! I have another question! I watched a recruiter on TH-cam say that you should cold email companies that have no job openings because the competition is less and they may have a positions. How would you tell that a company is opening to hiring without them explicitly posting a job offer? Thanks
I would add changing your status to "open for work", speaking as a recruiter/headhunter for over 20 years. Also if you're hopping jobs every few years you better have a legitimate reason other wise companies will not be interested no matter what school you graduated from or what experience you have. Great video!
What would a company look for if they were interested in hiring someone who doesn't have a visa yet? I'm currently looking to move abroad and it's very hard to find listing that give you an idea whether the company will sponsor you. I work in marketing but in a quite specific field so I'm confident my skills would be worth the extra mile 😊
This is tricky and I don't have the answer. Some countries are notoriously difficult to get a work VISA like the US, while Japan for example I think is not as difficult (just my opinion) because of labor shortage and other reasons. To be frank, most companies will prioritize local candidates because logistically it's easier. Some countries like Singapore are required from the government have to post a job for X amount of days to the local market first before considering out of country candidates. You'll just have to be very transparent about not having a VISA and work with the company directly. A lot of the people I've seen who've moved chose global companies that have internal support for that kind of thing, or transfer internally at their current company!
This is all great advice for those who have years of experience in the field they are in. However, this doesn't work for career changers with transferable skills. No recruiter is going to see beyond my lack of experience, despite having a wealth of transferable skills.
Agreed, this is easier for folks with "experience to show" - my advice would be then to focus on outreach and connecting with folks in the field you want to transition into.
Superb ! Mam how to get interview & grab job my 1st job after 4 yrs of gap due to family reasons ? I have completed my engineering with internship also in Aec construction industry so now trying to convince the recruiters how to get the work with proper answers about the gap years as it should not sound unprofessional in any way ? Which books would help in the situation..
Sakura: this video is very helpful. I do have a current profile photo on LinkedIn, however a concern of mine is that of ageism. Yes it shows I am a real person, but it also shows my age. Any thoughts on this?
It shouldn’t and if a company checks age, that talks about them, you shouldn’t work for them. As for nice pictures, look up icon accidental, she is such an inspiration to showcase a fresh spirit regardless of age
I love that you mentioned this - ageism is VERY real in Japan. I think at the end of the day if a company is hiring you or not hiring you based on age, that's on them. If you're uncomfortable with showing your face, maybe I'd use one of those animated avatars (ie. I love notion's: notion-avatar.vercel.app/). I know it doesn't give a real picture but that's fine, let your experience speak instead. Good luck!
Having all these features on my profile, but recruiters don't even answer my messages, let alone being contacted by recruiters first-hand. They don't even read the resumes that are already sent to them.
So basically they are looking to steal experienced professionals who have been loyal to a successful company... makes sense aha. I feel like if you only have educational experience and are looking for a job in a field that you have no job experience in than your chances of getting contacted by a recruiter are very low... which is unfortunate because that is when you need them the most ! Ah, the irony of life.
I remember people saying "the best candidates aren't looking to change roles." Meaning if they're good at their jobs, they wouldn't really have a reason to go. But I disagree. Especially with the current labor market this is absolutely not true - there's great talent everywhere, getting laid off or otherwise. I'm a huge advocate for hiring people with untraditional backgrounds because somebody took a chance on me in the field I'm now in. I hope there is more of it, personally.
Ok, but I’m not a social media type of person and I rarely have connections as they see me as a direct competition due to, let’s say, politics. Any chance?
I know Linkedin is prevalent, but at the end of the day...it's a platform. If you have strong connections IRL, that's more powerful than anything you post.
None of this will help if there is crazy competition for your niche. Recruiters are flooded with qualified candidates. I have done all these steps and never been contacted by a recruiter on LinkedIn after 1200+ apps.
This has to be the most helpful video on optimizing your LinkedIn profile that I have found. Straight and to the point. I found your tips very helpful. Thank you!
