Awesome video as always! I think the toughest part about the connection message (1. relatable, 2. compliment, 3. add value) is the adding value part. How do I add value to someone who doesn't really have any projects or papers that I can view? I can compliment them on the other hand, about their company.
Hey Jeff, Great Video! I came across your channel after watching your first video on ali abdaal's skillshare class. I am impressed by your editing skills, your videos really look professional! My question is how you zoomed/highlighted that top part of the study you show at 0:40. I can't find any tutorials online, maybe because I can't really articulate what I am looking for specifically. Maybe you can help me out! Thanks in advance!
Hi Jan! So happy to meet another student of Ali's :). Sure of course - So there are two ways you can go about trying to achieve that effect: (1) Keyframing the clip and increasing the size of the area. There should be some tutorials if you search "keyframe enlarge clip final cut pro" or something along those lines. (2) The easier route is for you to just simply buy a plugin online (probably in videohive) that will achieve the same effect. Good luck!

I tried your tip about searching through alumni (of both your school and current organization), but when using the keyword "instructional design", it shows me a ton of connections who, as far as I can tell, have no relationship to instructional design as well. Do I need to pick my keywords differently? Has search changed since this video was released?
I think you might need to be a bit more specific. Best way is to look at the title of those connections working in roles you're interested in and use that as a keyword

For niche job positions like that, the best way is to join groups and network to find the select few people. Or ask people working WITH those people, and see if you can be connected (professionally of course)

Hi Jeff, great advice once again! I just wanted to ask, do you have any tips for connecting with recruiters who are complete strangers? It's tough to relate or add value since I'm still a student and not in the field of recruiting, and I'm worried that just saying "I'm impressed by your dedication to finding top talent for [company/program]" or something along those lines as a compliment may sound a little fake. What do you recommend I do in this situation? Thanks!
Do your due diligence on those recruiters backgrounds and mention that instead!
@@JeffSu Thanks for the reply! Could it also work to mention my interest in the company? For instance:
"Hi [name]! I'm a student who has been following [company] with great interest for a while. I was particularly inspired by [company achievement]! I can also see you have an impressive track record of leading [company]'s internship program.
Would love to connect if possible!"
Any tips to improve this opener? Thanks again!
Mention something about them :)@@baz169
My university would have been fine on paper, but I had to drop out because it was bad, so a lot of this advice doesn't work for me.
Networking still works :)
Hi Jeff!
Thanks for all the helpful information!
I'm looking for work as a remote designer dental technician. I managed to connect with a couple of fellow technicians on Linkedin, but somehow the connections I find are not the most relevant to the job position that I seek. I can't seem to find recruiters in the dental healthcare industry!
Do you have any thoughts on the matter? Can you help out?
For niche job positions like that, the best way is to join groups and network to find the select few people. Or ask people working WITH those people, and see if you can be connected (professionally of course)
Hey jeff i am new to linked in and wanted to connect to some of my alumini fron the university. I have done all the setps but it isn't showing connect option under the alumini's name. Is it because i haven't verified ny education?
That's possible! LinkedIn gets regular updates as well so I can't say for sure
one small problem Jeff, didn't go to college but spend time on other entry level jobs most specifically in sales and marketing, so how do I connect to random people if I dont belong to groups of college or universities??
You can start with mutual interests :). I like to read books on psychology for example, and can join behavioral economics groups
@@JeffSu perfect thanks jeff.
Thanks Jeff, saw your video on IBM community web page. Trying to get into cyber security but everyone wants someone with experience, security clearance and certification. Currently taking IBM SkilsBuild courses and actively applying to different apprenticeship programs but no response. Any feedback on getting in the front door of this highly demanding field?
Hi Atma - It really depends on your experience so far and what your current skillset is. In a nutshell you want to network network network and position yourself as someone with transferable skills.
Also - May I ask you to link me to the IBM community web page? I'm super curious haha
@@JeffSu Thanks for your video and response. Keep up the great work!

I wish you would talk more about the psychology part of things, rather than the technicalities.
Thanks for the feedback Zee! I'm more of a "practical" person so the features/technical parts are (even) more interesting for me 😁
