Yea I'm not Polish but while we were on vacation there a friend of mine somehow managed to end up drunk in Polish Jail for fighting with the police. In our country this would have been reaal bad, huge fines and possible prison. The police officer asked for a bribe to let him go and the bribe was literally less than he paid for a pizza later that day, and the officer even drove him home and they had a nice talk about football.

Some people will send death threats over almost anything. They expect everyone to just bow down and do as they're told, and if anyone gives even the slightest hint of dissent or disobedience, they explode into a violent rage. I had a guy spend an entire year trying to destroy my life because I told him I was too busy to accept a new pro-bono project (building a flashlight for him for free), and pointed him toward the relevant open-source code and tutorials I had published to help people build their own. Basically, I said "no" to a random guy on the internet, and ended up having to leave my home for my own safety. He even sent death threats to my friends and clients, along with spamming an entire community with a ton of made-up stuff about me. Because of _a flashlight_ . And this sort of thing seems to only be getting more common. It's a symptom of the large-scale changes happening in society over the past couple decades. It's like the 1930s all over again.

While there are no proven (by court) facts about whether the death threats were real or not, there is no mistaking that while being "kept in" the sub, it is still a publicly accessible forum where anyone can see and comment on it. It's essentially like putting up slanderous words about a person all over a building which said person may or may not visit. Sure, you're not outright approaching them with your provocation, but you sure as damn ain't just keeping it to yourself nor or you really trying that hard to hide your opinion.

One tiny thing I want to point out as a keyboard nerd: assuming the guy is indeed polish, it's likely that he also uses an ISO layout keyboard, where the backtick is not located underneath the ESC key. Assuming he uses a polish layout keyboard, the backtick would be located on the '7' key, whereas the apastrophe on those keyboards is located right next to backspace, so they're not *that* far apart. Very minor detail, but I wanted to point it out anyway ;)
Greetings from Poland. It is actually very unlikely he's using Polish (214) layout (with backtick on 7), but rather a Polish (Programmers) (backtick under ESC, 7 for ampersand). Over nearly 40 years of my life (most of which I've spent learning about and working in IT) I have yet to meet a single person, who uses the former. :-)
Well, as someone who types in Spanish sometimes, I was wondering if the key next to Enter controls the accents over vowels for Polish ISO. That is how it works in Spanish, you type apostrophe followed by "u" for "ú" and so on. BUT if you just press the apostrophe and don't follow with a vowel, it will make a backtick mark without the vowel. For instance, in "didn`t" or "it`s" or any other way English usually uses apostrophes. Although I would never let that fly for an email (or an anonymous threat lol), I have definitely got loads of uni notes that have backtick apostrophes for that reason.

For those wondering, r/TheLastOfUs2 is NOT the official subreddit for the game. It was meant to be just that. However, shortly after the leaks came out, the inept moderation group at the time could not handle the influx of people who wanted to unleash their hatred (make no mistake, it was and still is, hatred) for the leaked plot, and instead let the subreddit devolve into a hateful, negative echo chamber of phobic bigotry. Due to these events, the official subreddit for TLOU2 is also the official subreddit for TLOU, which is r/TheLastOfUs. Unlike r/TheLastOfUs2, r/TheLastOfUs had an extremely tight team of moderators who carefully curated through EVERY SINGLE POST between May 2020 and July 2020.
I literally called the mods out and they pulled some bullshit and lied about how they were a 26 year old Cuban lesbian so they couldn't possible by racist or homophobic like I accused them of being.
r/TheLastOfUs2 just went to Private after being called out - after 12 months of letting that toxicity simmer and boil against you. If you didn't make this video they would have kept at it with no action from their mods.
Good riddance. They tagged me as pathetic then banned me a couple months ago just because I congratulated NG on getting over 300 awards, then the mod followed me around and made up lies about me. I didn't think ppl could be this toxic.

I can recommend all three Dark Souls games if you haven't played those yet, as they all gave me that same feeling.

I agree with you, the working conditions for the making of this game were unfair and cruel, but that doesn’t imply that no effort or no love for the medium were present. In fact, imo it means an interesting paradox: some stuff that resulted for crunch was amazing, so those who crunched deserve praise for it but praising them means defending crunch to an extent so: does crunch mean their work just shouldn’t be recognized? I agree that it's sad, that Shelby and Matt see themselves forced to put their everyday life to a halt, just to investigate into a horrible person like this. The most frustrating is, that this guy and other people like him, are not the losers, but the winners. His goal was to harm these two in one way or another, and he managed to do so. Matt and Shelby were stressed, angry and irritated for weeks, had to stop their usual agendas and invest effort, time and mental capacity on this dude. And although they found him and put this case to a halt for now, he didn't suffer any real consequences for it (I know he deleted everything, but other than that and his first shock, he will probably continue to do something like that in the future to others). So these guys are sadly often not the losers, but the winners, which is really frustrating. PS: Shelby and Matt did an excellent job tackling this issue! How are there people who dislike this video?! I can't think pf a way as a youtuber to address this thing as constructive as this.

Some people will send death threats over almost anything. They expect everyone to just bow down and do as they're told, and if anyone gives even the slightest hint of dissent or disobedience, they explode into a violent rage. I had a guy spend an entire year trying to destroy my life because I told him I was too busy to accept a new pro-bono project (building a flashlight for him for free), and pointed him toward the relevant open-source code and tutorials I had published to help people build their own.
Basically, I said "no" to a random guy on the internet, and ended up having to leave my home for my own safety. He even sent death threats to my friends and clients, along with spamming an entire community with a ton of made-up stuff about me. Because of _a flashlight_ .
And this sort of thing seems to only be getting more common. It's a symptom of the large-scale changes happening in society over the past couple decades. It's like the 1930s all over again.

While there are no proven (by court) facts about whether the death threats were real or not, there is no mistaking that while being "kept in" the sub, it is still a publicly accessible forum where anyone can see and comment on it. It's essentially like putting up slanderous words about a person all over a building which said person may or may not visit. One tiny thing I want to point out as a keyboard nerd: assuming the guy is indeed polish, it's likely that he also uses an ISO layout keyboard, where the backtick is not located underneath the ESC key. Assuming he uses a polish layout keyboard, the backtick would be located on the '7' key, whereas the apastrophe on those keyboards is located right next to backspace, so they're not *that* far apart. Very minor detail, but I wanted to point it out anyway ;)

Greetings from Poland. It is actually very unlikely he's using Polish (214) layout (with backtick on 7), but rather a Polish (Programmers) (backtick under ESC, 7 for ampersand). Over nearly 40 years of my life (most of which I've spent learning about and working in IT) I have yet to meet a single person, who uses the former. :-)
Well, as someone who types in Spanish sometimes, I was wondering if the key next to Enter controls the accents over vowels for Polish ISO. That is how it works in Spanish, you type apostrophe followed by "u" for "ú" and so on. BUT if you just press the apostrophe and don't follow with a vowel, it will make a backtick mark without the vowel. For instance, in "didn`t" or "it`s" or any other way English usually uses apostrophes. Although I would never let that fly for an email (or an anonymous threat lol), I have definitely got loads of uni notes that have backtick apostrophes for that reason.

I can recommend all three Dark Souls games if you haven't played those yet, as they all gave me that same feeling.

Imagine dedicating so much time and energy to fueling hate not only towards a work of fiction that took a lot of passion and effort to create, no matter how flawed the end product might be, but towards actual people who’ve done nothing but be kind and respectful. This video response is admirable and hopefully will make some members of the sub realize that, just perhaps, they could be nourishing more positive attitudes.
Look, Pablo, if you like the game, that's fine, but let's make one thing clear - passion was not involved during the production. Crunch, worker abuse and psychological distress were all involved in the making of this game. And in Naughty Dog, it's been going for years, and it shows. People who used to put up with weeks or months of crunch during the game productions either left, or got burnt out. Hell, during development, one of the developers had to be hospitalized, that's how bad it got.
@@bliczb8772 I get where you’re coming from but I still think it was made passionately. A big part of crunch is passion that’s taken advantage of by higher ups and corporates. I agree with you, the working conditions for the making of this game were unfair and cruel, but that doesn’t imply that no effort or no love for the medium were present. In fact, imo it means an interesting paradox: some stuff that resulted for crunch was amazing, so those who crunched deserve praise for it but praising them means defending crunch to an extent so: does crunch mean their work just shouldn’t be recognized? It’s tough! But I do think one can appreciate a work such as this one with the knowledge of what you pointed out.
@@SeráPabloSeráSerá Also, FYI, I did a little running - I was wrong, there was no developer hospitalized during TLoU 2 making. That happened during Uncharted 4. I was trying to go off of my memory, shows what I remember. Point still stands, crunch was cruel during TLoU2.

You can have levity in a serious product by making a joke. Hell, Shelby and Matt say themselves here that they feel like they should have worded it differently and more respectfully, but it was still a joke with the intent on making the review a little more lighthearted.

How absurd that rational, kind people have to respond to and deal with losers like this dude. It feels unfair, because people like GR follow the "rules". They seem to do the right thing, try to be decent people, and they have to engage with people who break all of those rules, and will lie and cheat to discredit or deplatform them. So frustrating. Sorry to hear about this.
And as such, it is all the more important that you, Pagne Daman and those like you, continue to make thoughts like yours known. Your clear analysis and compassion are both things that those who follow the “rules” will need, and certainly what Matt and Shelby need right now. This situation sucks but it throws into sharp relief how good actual good people are, and so far, you seem like one.
I agree that it's sad, that Shelby and Matt see themselves forced to put their everyday life to a halt, just to investigate into a horrible person like this.
The most frustrating is, that this guy and other people like him, are not the losers, but the winners.
His goal was to harm these two in one way or another, and he managed to do so.
Matt and Shelby were stressed, angry and irritated for weeks, had to stop their usual agendas and invest effort, time and mental capacity on this dude.
And although they found him and put this case to a halt for now, he didn't suffer any real consequences for it (I know he deleted everything, but other than that and his first shock, he will probably continue to do something like that in the future to others).
So these guys are sadly often not the losers, but the winners, which is really frustrating.
PS: Shelby and Matt did an excellent job tackling this issue! How are there people who dislike this video?! I can't think pf a way as a youtuber to address this thing as constructive as this.
@@TPFN A saving grace is that the perpetrator didn't exactly come out the victor. Sure, they got the attention they wanted, but they also went into full panic mode and deleted a whole bunch of their online footprint. Hardly the actions of a winner.
@@joelbell8515 yes, it is indeed a savong grace, that he was found and he deleted all his accounts for a moment, as you said. But his damage on Shelby and Matt is done, and I personally think, that no matter how much he had to flee now, the time, stress and nerves of the victims can not be restored. So I think, in this regard, he won.
