    Do you own a Sammy? Did you get any breed of dog during the craziness of 2020? How does your dog react to you working and schooling from home?
    If you like Sammies, you'll enjoy this video. Quimby and Bigby were visiting. So You Think You Want a Samoyed - Do I Want a Samoyed th-cam.com/video/bj8pGssRIIs/w-d-xo.html

      Yeah two samoyeds they lay at my feet and look at me with sad eyes, begging for attention. When they get bored they get their toys and trow them around the room, which isn't helpful while being on a call. ;)

    • @YetisPlace
      @YetisPlace  3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Yeti’s just discovered that he can throw his Booda toy (squeaky hedgehog toy). He throws it at my husband and I and barks, asking us to play. Sammies don’t like to play by themselves. They always enjoy playing with humans and other dogs.

    • @YetisPlace
      @YetisPlace  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      As fluffy and happy as they are, Sammies really don’t like to cuddle. They’d rather play chase.

      @@YetisPlace I wish they would cuddle more because they are so warm and comfortable! I always want to bury my face into their "wool" but they end up rolling out of my embrace like snails. Afterwards they demand playing again ;)

      I have no idea how Yeti’s able to squirm out of some of the cuddles I give Him but he’s like a squid and squirms his way out of anything. He starts barking, demanding treats, walks and playtime.

      Congratulations on your new Sammy puppy! That’s really exciting! He’s only going to get more active, so be prepared. They stay very active, until right before they pass. They need a lot of exercise, so be prepared for many long, daily walks.

    • @YetisPlace
      @YetisPlace  3 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Tessa, I’m sorry to hear you got scammed. If you live in the USA, please go to the website SamoyedClubOfAmerica.org. They have a big club of breeders, dog show champions, grand champions and those who own and adore the breed. It’s the site to go to if you want any information on the breed, including contacting professional breeders. You’ll pay more than $800 for a puppy, but the pup would be from a reputable breeder.

    I have a 2 yr old sammy and he is full of energy and unfortunately Boston hasn’t had much snow this year so it hasn’t been fun… I’ve had to hide treats in hard places and really utilize his senses while in the house lol…. that will usually tire him out while i’m working .. but eventually hear the winning 🤦🏽‍♀️😂 They judge us and think we are sitting all day on purpose.. no no we are working lol

    • @YetisPlace
      @YetisPlace  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      We haven’t had much snow either in Wisconsin this winter. Even when they reach 13 years old, they still have tons of energy. Yeti’s buddies, Quimby and Bigby, will be 14 this year.
      Hiding treats provides some fun for them. Physical activity provides the biggest bang for your buck, as I’m sure you really know. Since Boston doesn’t have much snow, bring him on a few longer daily walks. He’ll be able to use his nose, get some physical activity. It’s the best of both worlds.

      Thanks for finding us! Our focus is on training, grooming, education, etc., of Sammies. Too many people get them just because they’re cute. Then the puppies hit 4 months to 2 years. The owners get overwhelmed and the poor Sammy goes to a shelter. I want to stop that. Educating their owners or potential owners, is so important.

    • @YetisPlace

      @@YetisPlace I completely agree, I try to tell people how much responsibility they are. Both of mine were rescues and really never intended to have dogs, but they both needed help and a home. Working dogs, are a lot of work. They provide so much joy, but it takes a lot of spent energy and knowledge with how to work them. Sammies never listen when you tell them to sit and stay. But they listen when you hook them to a sled and tell them mush.

This morning I took her on her morning run down and up the mountain and then had to go out to do some errands. When I came back she gave me a good ticking-off for not taking her even though she had been out before I went out again. a few reasons to get one.
    Pretty 10/10
    if you like to brush a living animal 10/10
    if you like to be active 8/10 cause huskies are worse in this department.
    If you like to have other people come to you and say ahhhh its a cute thing and cuddle it 10/10
    If you like bark bark a few times a day (depends on your dog and its mood) well this can be a 8/10
    if you like to cook strange things like boiling chicken meat mince meat whatever and dont salt and pepper it or any season and give it to your dog 10/10 (sounds like me)
    If you like to have your arm pulled off cause of birds and other things they can chase well in this case 10/10 (me when im unaware of things)
    If you like to be stalked this is 10/10 bathroom eavrywhere they like to be with you
    If you never ever whanna leave your dog at your side 10/10 (you can teach them to be alone but ehh anxiety might be a thing)
    so if one of those reasons the important ones are missing dont get one and if you do get one i wish you the best of luck and happy times of life is around your corner thats what you are thinking right?
    Hell no I will wish you the best and i wish you happy moments remember when they are unruley they show their fun side... wich can be extremely silly. Ohh and train the shit of those dogs else you gonna have a very very nasty dog cause they are stubborn so train it early!
    Thankfully mistakes will happend but since smaoyeds are intilligent as hell you can correct them. WHen they get older good luck. So important things train it. Put the effort into it and you have a very silly obidient doggo that will love you and cuddle you and roll in mud poo for you cause it thinks its funny.

    @Yeti's Place - So my mom said my family is getting two Samoyeds. Will the two Samoyeds be a lot more difficult to handle than 1, and can they both be males?

    • @YetisPlace
      @YetisPlace  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      If this would be your first dog, please start with one. They’re overwhelming dogs, due to their intelligent, stubborn, difficult to train nature. You can’t just train sit, stay, down, come, etc. You need to involve a LOT of exercise and work while training. Otherwise, they won’t listen. That can be difficult for someone to do, if they’ve never owned a dog before.
      If you have owned a dog, don’t get 2 at the same time, especially not littermates. Give a few years age difference. The reason is, when they’re in their crazy stage, from 4 months of age to 2 years, they’re like velociraptors of terror. You thought a 2 year old child is difficult? They will literally eat your entire house. When one dog starts eating something, the other joins in. Even having one, they will shred your carpeting, eat windowsills, chew your TV cables, eat your sofa, legs to tables and chairs will be shred, thousands of dollars in damage will be done. Having 2 Sammies would amplify that damage.
      After 2 years of age, they’re fantastic dogs. Quimby and Bigby, are both 11, are both boys and both still eat their house.
      I would start with one and crate train when you’re not there to supervise and for overnight.

    • @goddessofthisworld7716
      @goddessofthisworld7716 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      As @Yeti’s Place already mentioned, it would be completly overwhelming. First time owners often have some problems with "easy" breeds such as poodles but a samoyed is much more challenging. So two of them would probably start of pretty fine but end up being a desaster (I don't think any breeders would give new owners two puppys anyways). Two dogs learn from each other which may be a good thing in some cases but in most cases it's a nightmare. One of your dogs starts ruining your shoes? The second one will join in for sure. There is no limit to what two young samoyeds would do when they're bored, they could cause multiple 1000$ damage (and this chewing thing happens way more often then you might think) and training them would be extremly difficult. Teaching a samoyed to walk fine on a leash is a very very hard task and many will never be able to walk as good as a shepherd would for example. So you'd have to walk them seperatly or you probably couldn't hold them. Samoyeds want a lot of exercise, you'd have to walk them 3-4 times a day for atleast 2-3h (30-45min per walk) and they also want mental exercise.

    • @YetisPlace
      @YetisPlace  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thank you for that valuable insight goddessofthisworld. Quimby and Bigby ate giant holes through their house’s walls, all because they were bored and one of them started doing that. Bigby didn’t want to be locked up in his crate when left home alone, so he chewed and slid his way out of a metal crate. Quimby dug a massive person sized hole in my backyard within 3 minutes, a few feet deep because he was bored. Bigby and Yeti also joined in because it looked like fun. Tens of thousands of dollars in damages happened to my house from my first Sam, Chewy. Why? He was bored.
      Sammies learn much differently than any other breed, because of their extreme intelligence. It makes getting them listen to what we say, difficult. They were bred to work, pull, herd, dig and all of those traits still remain. When you try training a Sam, they really don’t listen unless you train in multiple steps, using play and games, which is really difficult for a first time owner to figure out. Even then, a Sam has you trained, vs the other way around. Sams herd their people to get the person to do what the Sam wants the people to do. Literally herd, like sheep. Dragging you from another room of the house, like from the bedroom or bathroom, to say, hey Mom, play fetch with me. Mom, give me a treat. Mom, I wanna go outside and drag you along on a walk. Sams literally pull you while on a walk. Why? Sled dogs. They don’t want to slow down, nor can you easily train them not to pull because pulling is in their DNA.

      Thank you, Lucy, for the compliment on our channel. In all honesty, Yeti hasn’t been bathed in about a year and a half, from a professional groomer. Sams don’t need to be bathed. They’re odorless and have stain repellant coats, once they dry.
      If you’re professionally showing them, then of course, you’d want to bathe them more.
      I gave Yeti one bath. Our 3rd video explains why. Here’s the video. m.th-cam.com/video/3eOD-QZm4rA/w-d-xo.html
      Otherwise, I gave my first Sam a few baths, because he encountered skunks.
      I use a whitening shampoo when I do bathe them. The reason I don’t, is because they don’t really need it. Their coats are stain resistant. Plus, their coats really clog my drains.
      My Sams get bathed in my bathtub, using lukewarm water with the detachable shower head. Start from their back, their belly, working up. Head should always be bathed last, because they get cold.

      If you’re showing your dog in a show, then of course you’ll bathe more frequently.

      @@YetisPlace perfect! I am not going to have him as a show dog, so knowing that I don’t have to give him a bath for awhile is wonderful! I do plan on brushing his teeth my self and brush him so your videos help me with that! Thank you (:

      You’ll have to get a few different types of brushes to use. Brushing should happen a few times per week, to daily.

    The constant attention seeking is what we love, but I can imagine it can get a little distracting if there is important stuff to do.
    Our little Sammy kept a bit to herself at first but lately we feel like we’ve become like a magnet to her. It’s so cute. Luckily ours doesn’t mind being woken up, she’s always ready to play. But that will probably change a bit when she gets older 💁🏽‍♂️
    Thanks again for your videos! They’re informative and fun to watch :)

      She probably was a little to herself because she was new, my samoyeds were like that too. There is a big chance that she will stay as playful as she is right now, one of my parents samoyed is 13 and is as fit and playful as a puppy ;)

      A Sam’s energy never fades.
      Yeti is a deep sleeper, which is why he wakes like he does. Once he’s fully awake, he’s ready to go, ready to play.

      Your Mom is correct. A few of my vacuums have died after facing the wrath of Samoyed hair.

      I have 2 vacuums that work. One is an industrial Shop Vac, made for use in wood shops. The other, is an expensive Dyson vacuum. The Dyson can be emptied and easily cleared. It has be emptied after each area rug is vacuumed.

    Wait wait I’m not trying to be rude but if this video is a reason not to get this dog why do you have one then?

      I’ve owned Sammies for 20 years and have been around them as family members, for nearly 40 years. I know their quirks and how to work with them. A person who’s never owned a dog and is thinking of getting a Sammy simply because they’re cute, will be overwhelmed by the dog, once they reach 4 months to 2 years of age.
      I started my channel because too many Sams end up in dog shelters, due to owners being ill prepared. I want to save the Sams, by helping their potential owners know they’re so much more than a cute, fuzzy face. They’re hard working northern dogs, who need exercise. Otherwise, they become destructive. They were bred to pull heavy sleds, herd reindeer (closest to reindeer are people and kids. Yes, they do herd people.) and hunt and kill small animals. Their coats require a lot of maintenance.
      I love this breed and want to keep them true to what they were bred to do and be. I understand they need to walk miles every single day. Through the deep snow, through downpours, while I’m sick. I understand they only play when a human is on the other end of their bone, toy, stick. I know they need a cool climate and air conditioning in the summer, is a must have. I get a lot of questions from people who live in the Middle East, the extremely hot climates of India, asking if they can get a Sammy. They’ve never owned a dog before.
      That is why I made this video.

      I’ve never adopted my dogs from a shelter. They were all puppies, from breeders.
      The reason I started my channel, was because too many Sammies are sent to shelters. Their owners don’t understand the amount of work it takes to own one. The owners gave up and sent their Samoyeds to shelters. Yeti and I wanted to prevent that from happening, by providing education on the breed.

      They need air conditioning, a cool climate and plenty of exercise. Hopefully, you’ll can provide that where you are in India. Their thick, double coats, shouldn’t be shaved nor trimmed. Yeti gets too warm when the temp is comfortable enough to be dressed in a sweatshirt and jeans. When it’s much warmer, he gets really uncomfortable.
