I just sat here the other day, and told the cat that we have everything that we need. I live without water and I have bad health but I truly meant what I said. I don't need to hurry and scurry and go to stores I don't need to window shop. I don't need fancy dinners out. Just a contentment of my happy cat and watching the birds out the window I was remembering all the people that don't even have what I have.
@@jmjt3709 I have a well .After many years, I guess you have to dig a new one. Its 2,500 .Im on S.S. Looked into govt. Help .Denied, my home is older than they allow to help. I buy jugs of water, and go to laundramat.
I have found that contentment comes not from grasping at things but from letting go. This has allowed me to free myself from attachment and the anguish that accompanies it. Thank you for sharing your thoughts, as always.
Thank you, Anja for much needed break watching your video. I have been watching your older videos all afternoon today because they make me so calm. I am very overwhelmed mama right now and I need to focus on whats important for me.
@Marketa Vymazalova I'm sorry to hear that you feel overwhelmed. I hope things will calm down a bit for you soon and that you can take a rest. One step at the time, take care 🌼💛
My biggest frustration with myself is that I've always been a wanter & I can't stop wanting. I've consumed hundreds of hours of content that helps me (like this video) remember the importance of being happy with what I have, but like a devil on my shoulder I always have dozens of things I want & I find more things to want daily. I probably need therapy or something 😅
Thanks so much for sharing your story :) I'm sure you'll find a way that works best for you with being a wanter/creator in this world 😊 and also wanting things is part of life too. 💛🌼
i understand exactly what you are saying and feeling---im not going there anymore. our worth is more than all of this superfical worldliness. no one really cares, and we definely dont need to be around or listen. once you have appreciation of simple things--like your coffee or warm socks, its such a humbling gratitude and peaceful. it just frees you. love who you are...accept living in the moment...nice to hear you anja---deatra
Hi Deatra, so nice to hear from you 😊 I love how you explained it well, I completely agree with you. And yes, the simple things in life, like coffee or warm socks are the best! Really love those examples because I enjoy both things so much :) Take care 💛
Great video. It certainly is a challenge to stop the chase. I have spent a lot of time building a life around this but have learned that a simple life is better for me. Have a great day Anya-love your work
I think that's a very good point wanting less is true wealth or happiness because your more satisfied. I also loved the comment you made in another video doing the right thing at the right time. My wants lately are with clothes just from browsing online something I'm going to stop too expensive unless i really needed a thing before. New 2024 resolution
Meditation helps me recognize what is a true need, and particularly "why" I may desire something that isn't necessary. When considering a purchase (other than food or necessities) and bringing anything into the living space, I envision what moving day would look like. That keeps me happy right here, right now with just enough. 😅 Those clips from your walk in Nature are beautiful and inspiring. Hugs to you and Olivia! ❤
Thanks so much Jean, also for sharing. I love that you use meditations to recognize why desires come up that are not necessary. Such a good one, will try it myself too. And also envisioning moving day is such a good one. Big hug 💛
I try to keep to the rule of "one new item in and one or more worn out items out" and I don't update items just to have the latest and greatest. At the end of the year I let go of items that I don't use in the course of the year. Sometimes I get carried away and have to re-buy but usually I get it right. Thank you Anja for producing such interesting and inspiring content again this year, I always look forward to your videos. I wonder if you have ever thought of writing a book. I wish you and Olivia a very Merry Christmas and all the very best for 2023.
Thanks so much Garth, also for sharing. It's so nice to hear about your system. I think this way works the best in long term. Yes, sometime we do get carried away a bit with decluttering, but just like you I also noticed this is quite rare and most of the things gone are not being missed. Writing a book would be amazing, it's not on the short term plan at this moment, but would love to in the future. :) And for you too all the best for the New Year and also wishing you a very Merry Christmas!
So beautiful and I love your thoughtful insights. I have watched all your videos now. I will have to start at the beginning! You make me feel so calm ✨️
Very calming and beautiful video. 😊 For me, focusing on what I already have and knowing my needs are met help keep my wants at a minimum. Sure, there are things I want to have or things I want to do, but the list is pretty short.
Great video! I was exactly like you about clothes, and now I am trying not to care, like you. It has been a great help to shop second hand, because it is a cheaper and slower practise, so gradually I have learnt that I actually don’t need a new sweater, etc. and my wardrobe is nicer and more useful 🤓
Thanks so much for sharing, Clara. The whole clothes/fashion industry is such a trap right? :) Also so nice to hear how you have found your way with buying clothes secondhand and having more useful items :)
Yes, having too much is so... well, I just get tired. Exhausted. I bought some clothes during my vacation in the U.S. Comfortable, mostly black and not a lot. The freedom of not having decision fatigue is wonderful. I do miss another pair of pants, but I'm looking. Not much though. I'll see when I find them. Lovely video ans very inspirational! Thanks! ♥️💗🌹 Ps. I still struggle with a box of nostalgia stuff lol! Ds.
Thanks so much, Elisabeth Charlotte. So nice to hear that you have bought comfortable clothes and that you are also dealing less with decision fatigue in the wardrobe. It really makes such a difference when we have a simpler wardrobe. Hope you can find the right pants soon. Same here, also on the look for good pants, but also patience, pants are always a bit more difficult to find. Yes, nostalgia is the most difficult. I have decluttered a lot of nostalgia but when I think about it, it might not even have been necessary to declutter. Take your time and do what feels best for you. Lots of love. 💛
I am not at all surprised that you are familiar with the Stoics. A favourite of mine, in addition to what you quote from Epictetus, is from Seneca: "It is a wise man that treats his earthenware as silverware, and he that treats his silverware as earthenware is no less wise.". I find the idea of non-attachment to be helpful as well. Sure have nice things if you can afford to, but don't be fearful of losing them. The greatest benefits for me is stepping away from the hedonic treadmill. And the benefit you mention - more freedom (to not chase after promotions, etc.). Another very well known quote I like is: "We spend money we don't have to buy things we don't want to impress people we don't like.". It's in wide circulation, but I don't know who came up with it.
Thanks so much for sharing, Alec. I really love those quotes too. They are good reminders for us and can also be wake-up calls. The stoics were very wise people and their knowledge is so relevant today.

I don't get the without-water part.

I tell all my revelations to my cats too. They don't care & I know they'd prefer a different home 😄

Very well said Enso, and thanks for sharing. Letting go is key.
Beautiful quote although easier said than done in today's society.
Yes, it's much easier said than done :)

One of my favorite quotes is "Love people use things because the opposite never works "Joshua Fields Millborne.

Another inspiring video, especially at this time of the year!💝
Thanks so much, Alessandra! 😊

Thanks so much for sharing, Elizabeth 😊 Having a short 'wants' list feels so fulfilling and enough, I love it.
