We’ve all been there… One moment you’re fired up for your goals and future sexy self, ready to diet and conquer the world. The next? Not so much... This video will teach you all about how to stay motivated to lose weight backed by science!
But after just a couple days, you’re back to binge eating chips and watching hours of Netflix.
    What is happening?
Why is it so difficult and what does the science say about motivation?
Today, we’re going to be answering these questions and uncovering the real solutions to how to stay motivated to lose weight, backed by scientific solutions.
Point #1. Motivation is fleeting and losing weight takes time
The main problem people face when wondering how to stay motivated to lose weight is that motivation wears off and temptation will always exist.
My boy Zig Ziglar has a good quote about the solution to this:
“People often say motivation doesn’t last, well neither does bathing. That’s why we recommend it daily.”
The secret here is to use our incredible 21st century technology to keep reinvigorating yourself with more motivation.
The easy ways to do this are:
    • Listen to daily podcasts on being healthy
    • Read books our use audible.com to listen to health and fitness audiobooks
    • Or even attend conferences and events held on health and fitness
All of these things will help re-inspire you and keep you motivated
Point #2. Everyone has limited amounts of willpower
Have you ever noticed it’s easier to make tough decisions in the morning but harder to make them evening?
This is because your willpower, similar to a muscle, is a limited resource.
After a long day of hard decision making, a psychological syndrome called decision fatigue sets in and makes it more difficult to say no to that pizza
The solution here is to use habits instead of relying on willpower.
Habits, since not consciously made, don’t dip into those willpower reserves and are decisions made on autopilot.
Simple habits like drinking a large glass of water right when you wake up or not eating after 7pm are easy to establish and will help you when your motivation and willpower fades.
Point #3. Progress can be deceiving
The mirror plays games when It comes to losing weight and getting in shape.
Many dieters have experienced the situation where they are losing weight and feeling better, but are seeing no physical results in the mirror.
    This can be crazy frustrating.
The solution is that measurements don’t lie.
It may not sound sexy, but diligent tracking progress is crucial for success
    • Yes, take photos, but also make sure to
    • Weigh yourself
    • Take measurements
    • Take videos
    • And keep studious track of these records.
Progress = motivation and this will keep you from getting discouraged by the mirror.
Point #4. Being healthy doesn’t have to suck
When most people think about getting health and fit they envision eating dry chicken breast, bland broccoli, and running for hours on the treadmill.
It doesn’t have to be like that, nor should it.
Find something you love, especially when it comes to exercise
    • Yoga
    • Pilates
    • Boxing
    • Crossfit
    • Booty Bootcamp
    • Biking
    • Running
    • Hiking
    • Weight Lifting
    • Prancercising
    • Kayaking
The are A TON of options
With all those options out there, you have no excuse not to find something you love and can stick with.
Remember a perfect workout routine you hate is going to be less effective than finding a type of exercise you love and can stick with.
Point #5. Design small rewards for sticking to the plan
All work and no play makes Jack a dull boy.
We humans may think we are complex and gifted beings, however, we are still simple animals.
Basic reward systems in almost all major weight loss studies work on us just like our furry brethren.
As talked about in our previous video on New Year Resolutions, reward systems work.
Having a cheat meal once a week or even a reward day every few weeks on a diet can provide a lot of psychological relief and something to look forward to on those more temptation filled days.
So in summary the solutions for how to stay motivated to lose weight are:
#1. Find a daily source of motivation
#2. Focus on establishing 1-2 core habits you can stick with
    #3. Track your progress diligently
#4. Find a type of exercise and diet plan you ENJOY
#5. Reward yourself for sticking to the plan
Before you go if you wouldn’t mind leaving a like and a short comment on the video we’d really appreciate it.

Funny thing, when I was trying to loose weight a few years back, cheat days were not good for me, because they would feel more like failures instead of rewards, because I ate what I was not supposed to and they also made me lose my motivation because I would feel like they broke my streak and I did not want to start again from zero. This is 100% how I've been staying motivated for the last 4months (and 16.5 lbs ago!) I hated working out but found a Groupon for my local crossfit gym and I've ended up falling in love with it, and before when I'd 'diet' I'd cut my calories to the point of being miserable all the time but now eat more than ever (and still somehow manage to lose at least a pound a week) I've taken crazy amounts of pictures at every angle and share them on my personal social media, the recognition I get from that from my family and friends helps me stay on track, and I reward myself on Saturdays, I don't go insane but I have a treat - today's sushi!
    These tips really do work!

Thanks, I've enjoyed a few of your videos before, but I really wanted to thank you for this one. I'm a recovering 40-year sugar addict that basically needs to lose a whole extra person before I can seriously enter the dating scene. I've been feeling overwhelmed by the length of time this process is going to take and your video has given me renewed confidence that I will be able to stay motivated for the long run with some of the things you list here.
Oh, and my reward will be for each month I'm 'clean' I will treat myself to a Kickstarter Board Game. I can't see using food as a reward since I'm trying to get away from that mindset.
22 pounds down in 3 weeks, about 150 to go, sadly. But honestly, thanks for the tips.

I know the feeling of demotivation friends are a big part of it. I lost weight over a year and the first comments were on how big my hips and stomach was I'm on a 1200 cal diet and I was extremely upset I'd lost weight though gained muscle now I am trying to find out where I went wrong the plan is exhausting and I ended up eating a whole dessert as I felt why bother

    • @user-sg4ov7ng4h
      @user-sg4ov7ng4h 2 ปีที่แล้ว

tbh it helped thinking that i run not to lose weight but to get better at running and breathing, kinda want muscles too
but it's a change of mind, it's not like a decision i gave myself, it's was just like, it's been years, f it, feels better when i run and then i go to bed or smth since the feeling kinda lasts.
and it kinda helped my stress on my exams, but it can be boring though
and i don't read the scale bc i know i'm gonna get demotivated and if i hit my goal (of kms per day) i will immediatly leave when i could do more
i like feeling the "pain" of my exercices too, if i don't feel it i won't neceserally be motivated so i ignore it but it's still kinda there so doesn't matter

#1. Find a daily source of motivation such as listening to daily podcasts on being healthy, reading books or even attend conferences and events held on health and fitness
#2. Focus on establishing 1-2 core habits you can stick with like drinking a large glass of water right when you wake up or not eating after 7pm
#3. Track your progress diligently. that means take photos, but also make sure to weigh yourself, take measurements, take videos, and keep studious track of these records
#4. Find a type of exercise and diet plan you ENJOY like Yoga, Pilates, Boxing, Crossfit, Booty Bootcamp, Biking, Running, Hiking, Weight Lifting, Prancercising, Kayaking
#5. Reward yourself for sticking to the plan. have a cheat meal every week, or if you know that your family has takeout friday, you can make that your cheat meal.

Azul Tequila if you find you go overboard on your cheat meal, have it with a friend, and let that friend know that you don't want to go crazy with the amount but would like to have something. That's what I do and it's working great! If you can't do that, before you have your meal drink a large (like the biggest cup you have) cup of water, that's helped me before as well 😊

Yep. Mine too. After a lifetime of "dieting" I finally decided the best way to diet is give up everything that tastes delicious and make everything from sugary, fatty, or not diety foods a no-no. The way I used to kid myself! I thought I as long as I ate whole grains and raw veggies I could eat an oreo every time I got bored.

    • @RedondoBeach2
      @RedondoBeach2 7 ปีที่แล้ว +3

Have you thought about cutting the cheat meal in half and restraining yourself from eating it too quickly? Savor every bite. Try having a couple sips of water between every fork full. If you feel like you're taking in too much water too quickly, slow down even more. Don't allow yourself to continue unless you're taking in water at an equal or greater rate.

You don't understand the realities of emotional eating. Like he said, weight loss takes time, especially if you have a lot of weight to lose. When you have emotion based cravings and you are denying them, it increases your stress level. Limited will power is another obstacle here.

we binge from cutting calories. our bodies are not stupid. overtime you will find that the more fat you lose the hungrier you will get. It all comes down to the choice of food. load up on the wholefoods like fruits, veggies and starches. they will satisfy your micro needs while the low calories of whole foods will allow you to eat in bulk instead of miniscule portions of junk. of course I'm not saying avoid all proccessed foods, but try to make the bulk of your calories come from raw foods and whole starches. you'll have more energy eating this way and you'll be able to eat plenty without getting too hungry from cutting.
      hope that helps!
