The number of cuticle layers in hair varies by ethnicity, with African hair having fewer layers than Asian hair: African hair Has 6-8 layers on the minor axis and 1-2 layers on the major axis. African hair has a smaller cuticle than Caucasian hair. Asian hair Has more cuticle layers than Caucasian hair. Asian hair has a higher median cuticle thickness than Caucasian and African hair. The cuticle is a protective, strong coat on the hair shaft. A healthy cuticle is smooth and flat, which gives hair shine and protects the inner layers from damage. Other differences in hair between ethnicities include: Hair shape: African hair is highly curled, Asian hair is usually straight, and Caucasian hair can be straight, wavy, or slightly curly. Hair thickness: African hair has an intermediate thickness of about 80 μm, while Caucasian hair is usually thinner, with a diameter of about 50 μm. Hair density: Caucasians have the highest hair density. I was taught that afro hair has the least cuticles
Hello Thank you for the info.!!! Very helpful!!! My hair is course and I have split ends. Also its dry, but I really don't want to cut it. What brand and product is best for dry split end hair. My natural hair is wavy and I flatten it at least 2 twice a week
Hi Janet! I totally understand. A lot of my clients have the same issue. While a small trim will definitely help and prevent more split ends, you may want to look into a split end treatment from Brazilian Blowout. Also, you could request an SOS Treatment from a hairstylist that has access to TIGI products. Good luck and let me know how it goes!

There’s lots of ways the cuticle could be damaged, split ends are just one way … all split ends are the result of cuticle damage but not all cuticle damage presents itself as split ends. If that makes any sense? Lol hope that helps!

Cuticle refers to the outermost layer of the hair so I’ve never heard of anyone not having a cuticle layer at all. That’s a new one for me!!!!
You are a saint

I had dark brown hair now turn into reddish copper hairs. Hairs got thin n dry too. I have oily dandruff too.
Definitely see a dermatologist for your dandruff! That is an actual medical condition that can be treated. Best of luck to you!

@@amandathebeautypro so what are the other ways cuticle damage can present itself besides split ends????
@@kadidraj could be anything from nodules to knots to breaking/fraying - the milady’s cosmetology textbook goes into detail
@@amandathebeautypro so is that the best book you reccomend me to read or is there others?
@@amandathebeautypro hey so I looked up the name of the book and it's pretty expensive if you ask me!!!
Please make a video about epicuticle, exocuticle and endocuticle
Do you recommend conditioning the hair after washing and then doing a deep condition after?
Not necessarily. You can wash, then go straight to the deep conditioner and leave in for 10-15 minutes and rinse with cool/lukewarm water.
Hi
Does color seal the hair cuticle??
Give the email or social I'd I have some doubts to clear
And at the very last, i recognize that you're using ipad to write. I thought you're writing on the whiteboard. Haha..
