I really like this problemsolving, practical video. I wonder if there is any hairstyle you find looks good airdried…? since I got chronicly ill I simply cannot hold my arms up for that long to blow dry my hair or use hot tools😔. I’ve actually gotten compliments when I had just slept with my moist hair in a bun the night before. That was a comfort😅 If you have any more proffessional ideas on this topic please let me know❤️🩹
Thanks, starting at a new school tomorrow and you tips are quite helpful. 😊
I loved that you not only showed the proper way to blow-dry, and how to apply the product but said WHY it's important and why you need to pull up and use the brush.
Great instructions! I need so much more fullness at the top of my head.. I know why I’m not getting it… I’m not drying it correctly. Thank you! ❤
Justin, I have fine, medium thickness hair. What would be the best root boost and all over product for me? I have access to the professional beauty supply. Thank you 🙏
I'd like to see more for fine and thin hair vlogs! Thanks @justinhickox!
I appreciate that you teach the client how to style as opposed to making her look beautiful and then she/we have no idea what to do when we get home! Thanks, guy!❤
Fabulous point to make. Some of us have no idea of what to do really with our hair after the hairdresser has done a wonderful job. I or we try, give it a go - to copy it when we get home but nothing goes right, looking in the mirror everything is reversed, so I just leave it be natural and live with that. It would be terrific to learn how to style our own hair and at least get it looking something like it was after leaving the hairdresser. 👍😊
Tbh every time I leave the salon, my hair is flat because the stylist just blow dries like normal and also conditions my hair from roots to the end, which for fine hair weighs it down. It always looks better the next day after I shower and style it myself because I’ve been dealing with my own hair for 42 years trying to make it look more voluminous and thicker, so I have learned a few things over the years. This video is validating some of those techniques I figured out in my own!
I hate the way they over blow and straighten the hair. I usually wash it again and air dry it with a bit of beach salt spray, lift it in a bun for 20 min and then let it free. It’s not bad.
I enjoy watching your videos very much. I have very thin hair. The videos where you have your client helping style her own hair and your teaching her how to handle her hair are great! It gives us a better perspective. Thank you!!!
You're so welcome! I'm really glad you like that and the videos are helping! Did you like this format....a little less produced?
This is a great style of video thank you! I 2nd her comment. You teaching how to do your own hair is a very useful tool.
I will be watching more
Agree! It helps me so much to see teaching like this!
Less produced is awesome! Thank you for all your great teaching tools. And when is that new product coming?
Has been tremendously helpful!!!
Thin is thin, and if you're losing hair as you age, it just gets worse. Enen the texture changes. Unfortunately, thinning at the crown SUCKS...you may have volume at the moment, but within 2 hours the volume is gone...
Yeah and it takes being out in the mild wind for 2 minutes and your hair is back to 👎
Hair spray-
Yes😂& let's give a special shout out to menopause , hypothyroid, combined with the humidity and rain in south Florida😂
Minoxil pills helps my thinning hair. My hair is almost as thick as it was in high school.
You are so right
This is one hairdresser that knows hair! Especially fine hair that is thinner - and makes his videos easy to see exactly what you need to do to help your hair look better! Thank you Justin- love your videos!
"I can get all that volume" I just can't " keep all that volume" 🙁
yes!! it doesn't stay !!!!! even if i spray it with hair spray ..
Yup. I look like the Breck girl for two min.
Exactly!! No matter what products I use, the volume always comes out at the first sign of humidity or rain. It never lasts.
@@RangerMommy have you ever tried Smooth Criminal brand humidity blocking hair spray? It works great on my fine thin hair…
@@deenixon1953 Thank you for that tip. I will get some on the weekend. I'll try anything to keep the volume.
Big thank u for addressing cowlicks. More please. . .
They are driving me crazy as well. Don't know how to style them. They are getting very annoying lately.
Me too.
YESSSS!!!!!
Agreed!
I really like how you showed us what exactly to do!!
Awesome! Did you like the format of this video...a little less "produced"?
I am Theresa. Theresa is me. 😂 I swear we have twin hair. I’ve picked up so many tips in just a few recordings. Thank you! I will say though, the arm fatigue is real! 😂 stylists have the advantage of standing over us and directly seeing everything they are working on. Got to keep the body strong and flexible for the hair styling!
This was helpful. Some things I was aware of & some things I was not. I would love to see more “tricks of the trade” for fine limp hair to increase volume without “drab” product buildup. Most products take away the shine & leave the hair looking lack luster.
YES!!
I am so glad to see I have been doing it correct. I have argued with many a stylist that they blow my hair flat. I have to go home and start from scratch to get volume.
That’s been my experience my entire life!!!!
Hahaha... The camouflage technique you showed for her cowlick is what I used to call " root scramble." Or, sometimes I'd call it "root roughage." It was funny enough to make my clients remember it.
Love it! 💝
Thin-haired girl here. Thank you for all of these great tips. I have tried tips from your previous videos and they really help my hair. Thank you so much! Susan
I appreciate that you are a kind and patient teacher! Having the client performed, the actions is essential to the learning process. I would love to see more about gray hair that is not colored and the best products to use, etc. Thank you!
Great video, I really learn a lot when you have a client in the chair and you ask them how they do their hair and then help them work on their hair. Very informative and real time learning.
I'd like to see tips for thin, fine, straight short hair!
I loved that! I have the same double cowlick nonsense going on at the back of my head, alongside the fine and thin hair thing going on. Thanks for the tips!
I have fine thin hair and I love when you show how to style hair for more volume. I have started using your techniques and I'm seeing a difference. P!ease do more of these videos. Love them!
Love when you show technique like this, especially having the client take a crack at it. I have similar density and texture hair that recently decided to cow-lick in the back (thanks post-menopausal hair thinning) but I'm afraid to blow dry it. It has tons of wave if I let it air dry but the cowlicks are horrendous. When I blow dry my hair it ends up super dry, flyaway and I have to wash it next day no matter what. Yay fine hair (lol)
Yes yes yes!! Great tips ! Finally a video that really shows what many of us have to deal with “ on the daily”
Looking forward to your new volumizing product!
Sir, you have changed things up for me. Learning how to blow dry was key, and blowing that myth that layering on top will help volumize was really helpful. For the first time in a very long time, I'm having a good hair day! Thank you!
This was really great, Justin! I think instruction really sinks in when you can put yourself in the place of the "instructee", watching a professional work along with a client and redirecting her efforts as you go (with explanation). Very helpful- thanks so much!
Love your tips for fine straight hair. I have baby fine hair. It took me most of my life to figure how to make it look like I have some volume. Thank you 😊
Wow!…I do my cowlicks right, without even knowing it!!!!!…I love this video, not produced, just being!!!!…this is one of my favorites!!..I can’t wait for your new product, Justin!!!!…thank you so much for bringing us the best, every single video!!!!…you nailed it, my guy!!!!!!!👏👏👏👏👏👏💜💜💜💜💜💜much love and appreciation for you, Justin!!!!💜
You rock! I’m just glad I can help. I’m also glad to hear you like the more relaxed editing style of this video. I like things more produced but it’s because I enjoy the process of filming and editing. Less produced does feel more authentic though….right?
@@justinhickox well, I am bias when it comes to you from day one…but, yes, less produced does seem much more authentic!…but, I love all your videos!…you know I am a big mush when it comes to you!😂😘
@@lindamarocco4583100% more authentic
This worked great for me! Thank you. I wasn't working the mousse all the way from root to end. I've tried this 3 times now and it's working a lot better. My hair even turned out nice and fluffy, stay in place this morning and it was raining. My hair never turns out good when it's damp or humid out. I appreciate the short and to-the-point video. I have to use unscented products for my hair and it took forever to find what would work. Now if they don't discontinue them like so many other products I use...
Thank you for sharing your tips for fine hair! I love the way you make things so clear and achievable on my own!
That's awe seeing this. I've been a stylist for 14 years and it's not often sadly for stylists to educate their customers/clients on how to style their hair to achieve the look they are wanting. It's sad that stylists don't. I always made it a point to educate ,from young men trying to have a certain style I always made sure they had a comb at home if not I sent them home with one for women I demonstrated how to get that look. For they way that is easier for the client. I lo Ed this!
Im a professional Hairstylist too! Great Tips I will definitely use! Make more videos like this! They Really Help! Always Learning. ✌️
You said that it is easier to style dirtier hair vs clean. I would love to see how to style your hair when you wake up a few days after washing. My hair is fine and thin and looks flat and sort of oily by then.
Ah, thank you Justin. I love how you always make things so clear.
I love how you have made your channel an educational hub, thank you thank you!!
This was great! Love the format, particularly because you can address specific issues - i.e cowlicks, which happens to be my exact issue in the same spot! I also agree that seeing both you and the client work on their hair is helpful!
I definitely like how you deep dive into techniques here! It is greatly appreciated!
I really liked watching you work with an actual person! super helpful
If that’s thin hair, sign me up! She has TONS of hair. Show us thin hair, will you?
There is a difference between thin individual hair texture, and thinning hair quantity. I'd like to see more on thinning hair as I've always had tons of good hair but now it's both thinning out in quantity and in texture.
So much help here! Every trick you demonstrated I was doing the opposite. Didn't know about the roots to the end principle, how to avoid creating a crease either. I appreciate you, Teresa for taking the blows and tugs for us. Congratulations for keeping your long hair, too. Here's to bigger, more glamorous hair that also looks natural and free. Thank you, Justin!
YES!! Someone who is FINALLY teaching me HOW to dry my hair!!
I too have that cowlick and of course thought my hair should be short there, now I know better and how to dry it!
Thank you so much for this video and for having your client participate. Now I just have to adapt this to my pixie hair cut 🤭
Maybe you’ll have a video for us pixie gals 🙏🏻
Thank you!! My fine, straight, cowlick-y hair has so much more volume and control than ever before after I tried these techniques. I’m so glad this video showed up in my feed the other day.
I really like this type of video. It is so helpful to see you showing these things detail by detail. Thank you!! I learned a lot to help me with my fine/thin hair.
You are an amazing stylist & teacher! 🙌🏻
I loved this video. I love them all, but this one speaks to my sad, fine, thin hair. You're great at explaining things. Thank you ❤
Great video and I like the format a lot. Thank you helping us women with fine thin hair!
My hair is fine and straight but I'm growing it out from a very short pixie so i really appreciate these videos on how to create volume. It's been 8 months now and as I struggle to get curl I'm reminded why I always wore mine short because it's a pain in the butt to make my hair do what I want. Last night I even dreamed I gave up and had it cut short again 😂
I remember her makeover and love today’s video! I get so much from your channel and appreciate all of the information you share with all of us!
I learned today that that root spray needs to be combed throughout the strands. I was keeping it close to the scalp and then using a gel or such for the rest of the blowout. I haven’t been using the heat protector until I start styling with heated brush or curling iron or flat iron. Depending on look I’m trying to accomplish.
I have appointment for hair cut Friday so fingers crossed 🤞🏼!
I finally got a silk pillowcase and that’s helping so much with making hair easier to handle on days following shampoos when it gets all of the treatments.
Thanks again for all you do!
Yes, please. More how to blow dry properly. I have a lot of fine hair, and I think I have honed in on how I like to style it, but we can all learn more from you.
I appreciate your detail-sharing because I want my hair to look great EVERY time I wash/style it, not just every 5 weeks when I’m scheduled with my stylist…!
Omg this was soooo helpful in so many ways! Thank you and I’m going to practice this today! Keep ‘em coming’! 🥰
Fantastic, thx! Love how you showed step by step blow drying process. I have thin hair but lots of it and can never get the controlled blow out my stylist gives. I watched your video twice and saw 2 major things I’m doing wrong, so your demo and taking points were super helpful.💕
WOW! This was amazing - i agree with other viewers that getting to watch HOW we can do it by you showing/guiding client on the technique is fantastic. Keep these videos coming. Maybe some EASY, FAST but STYLISH updos with clips - styling bangs different ways.
He is spot on. I wish a lot of these hairstylists learn from him.
Loved it!! Being northern european descent, I have the fine thin hair and trying to style is a challenge. You taught me alot today!! Thank you!
You are a master at presenting the technique. I have been struggling with the very same hair issues you discussed in this video. I will try them out tomorrow morning. Thank you for your generous instructions.
Thank you soooo much for addressing this problem 🎉So appreciated & helpful ❤
Her hair is exactly like mine - cowlicks and all! I wish I knew the exact products (brands) I should use because I'm guilty of trying to use less product on my hair because I fear it will way it down. I will be re-watching this one!!
Perfect! This woman is my hair twin! I’ll def watch again to imprint tips in my brain. Thank you Justin!
Hi Justin,
Really appreciate this video. And will be looking forward to g forward to see one for us that have short hair. Thank you. 😊
I liked this soooo much. I learned a TON and desperately want more like this! Love seeing “real” people doing their own hair and learning. Helps me feel like I can actually do this at home too. ❤
Omg...you just solved my exact problem with the whole cowlick thing!!! Your videos are very helpful😊
That was great! And every time I blow dry with my round brush I hear you say "point DOWN thru the hair as you round brush, don't point AT the brush" as I practice and practice to make my hands move in the right direction. It's getting easier, and it shows as the end result as well!
Thank you! AND, I'm sorry you have to subject to hearing my voice in your head! No one should have to deal with that! LOL
@@justinhickox It's your teaching style but the voice of David Attenborough...depending on the day. lol!

This was super helpful!! Thanks also for the cowlick tips!!
That was great you addressed so many of my issues Justin - thank you 😊
This was SO helpful. I do dry down the hair shaft, but I dry close to the head. And the info about blow drying the bangs was informative, too. Been doing it incorrectly my whole life! Great info! 😊
I have fairly fine hair and found this video very helpful. Great tips! More please!
Thank you! I loved this. I have fine hair that isn't thin but is not the thick hair I've had for most of my life. The "age cowlicks" have confounded me because sometimes I can get my hair to cooperate there and sometimes I can't. Watching the styling up close from different angles and being able to save this video for reference will be a big help. Messing up the cowlick and the tip about brushing product out as you style were things I didn't know.
Thanks for the reminder to keep moving the brush...and the cowlick trick!
Favorite part was watching you do her bangs! I knew that but had forgotten not to pull straight down. Awesom! Thanks 💇🏻♀️
That was EXETREMLY helpful! Literally an amazing video that is going to be a lifesaver going forward with my hair!
Love this. I have the same type of hair so the info was on point for me. Thanks for sharing.
I like the instruction on dealing with the cowlicks~I have two on each side and this really helped deal with mine. Also the info on blow drying and not keeping the dryer in one place (something I DID do!) has helped me as well. Thank you!!
Excited for your own product!
I have never experienced my triceps shaking so much😂 This was a fabulous upper body workout that really pushed me out of my comfort zone. Thank you so much!
Enjoyed ur video, u very detail in explaining how to do something & WHY it’s important. That is good to kno. I’m 69 & since diagnosed w thyroid problems my hair has gone from complaining about how thick it was to having enough hair in my brush to make a wig. My hair is so very thin now. I want to try ur product u have come with to help add volume. I miss my full head of hair but I’m willing to do what ever it takes to make my hair look fabulous again. Like I said.. I miss my thick head of hair & will truly appreciate it if I can make it look decent. TY for posting, ur a big help.👍🥰
Justin, I miss your tutorials! I learn so much from you about my hair. Thank you for the time you take to do them! I am a subscriber.😀❤️
Loved all the tips, but especially the cowlick one!
Thank you, Justin. That was very helpful. I have hair exactly like her, even the same color. It is fine and flat. I will be more careful when I blow dry my hair.
This was one of your best b-c you taught exactly what to do for several things: how / why to apply product; how / why to blow drying; how / why to styling with brush; how / why to manage cowlick. All in a quick, real life scenario.
I'm so thankful that I have the right tools to start with, at least, and some of the right techniques. I don't know if I will be able to pick up the techniques being used in this video, to dry my own hair, but I will certainly give it a go!
I have very fine thin hair with a cowlick in the back, this was so helpful not only for that but the blow drying as well. Your videos are always informative in some way. ❤🇨🇦
Love your content, it’s nice that you explain everything so clearly. I just worked out what I was doing wrong. Thankyou ❤
Hi Justin. Always looking forward to your new videos!!!. I would love to see you do videos on women with receding hairlines and/or cowlicks in the front. Take care and have a blessed day 😊

You're so welcome! I'm stoked to hear that helped. It's an old trick I learned from my mom (an incredible hairstylist).

I have a couple of VERY strong cowlicks in the back of my head. Thank you so much for showing what to be done to help control them! It works!!
This is actually really helpful! Thanks.
Ok wow best hair video I’ve watched- and I’ve watched a lot! Loved the cowlick tip, and also blow drying the other direction then moving hair back where you want it. I’d love tips on that ‘widows’ area where hair is thinning, how to style or cut that so it doesn’t look so sparse and stringy. I always just tuck behind my ear but there must be something better! Hi TH-cam, many thanks for this introduction.
Greetings Justin. This is the only video I’ve watched from your channel. It was so informative, I immediately subscribed. Cannot wait to check out your channel and find more helpful tips; do’s and dont’s. Keep up the great work.
I’ve been trying to find a way to style my hair with a goal of keeping it off my hearing aids. No room behind the ears to tuck the hair. I like my below the chin bob and not showing my ‘aids’. Your videos are very helpful and entertaining. Thanks.

I'm glad I found this video. I have thin, fine hair with a cowlick too. I found when I cut it shorter, it does show up more. I'll have to try scrunching and pulling it as it grows out a little. Thank you
More, more, more!! Thank you so much for this video. I knew most of your tips in theory, but I definitely have been using a bad technique. What I personally would appreciate, are some tutorials on thinning hair on the top. I've lost my hair twice and the third time, it didn't all come out, bit thinned considerably. Luckily I had been blessed with very thick hair so I'm just glad to have any, lol! But the top is thin and maybe you have some tips for me, thank you Justin ❤
