  • In this episode I'll be going over the Superior Radiator I'll be using for my SBC V8 S10 build. I'll show the Radiator highlights, things of note, fitment in the factory core support, and lastly compare to a couple other s10 radiators.

    Cooling on S-10 is the thing that burns most people, it you don't plan it right. I have been running the HD V6 radiator for 24+ years. I drive mine all over, and I drag race it quite a bit. It's basically a high 14 drive every day 88 Blazer. I stick with as much factory stuff as possible, it's heavy, ugly, lasts forever, and in an emergency hundreds of miles from home, you gen get parts for it. That feature has saved my bacon a couple of occasions ..BIG TIME!!!!!!. That Superior radiator looks interesting, and I might consider it in the future. My first choice for upgrade will be 84-89 Vette radiator. It will fit, it will cool properly, and it's cheap. One thing I learned to appreciate over the years is....when used properly, those factory engineers know what the hell they are doing.

      That's alot of time on the v6 radiator. I kept mine still and with the superior radiator I should have to modify the factory core support so the v6 one can always go back in if need be.

    The one I have for my 94 Sonoma is fully shrouded like yours but has dowel pins on the bottom to mount in factory hole placement.

    Nice. I have the same superior radiator and fans going on one I'm about to start on. I'm also doing an aluminum core support to shed some weight. Keep the good content coming, I enjoy your vids. I have a camera and some spare batteries on the way so I can start making some real videos on my channel. I have a couple of s10s, 2nd gen and 3rd gen f-bodies to do builds on my channel.

      I'm not sure of the radiator part number but the one I got from their website was just the one for "V8 conversion".

    Nice to see another 1st gen sbc, Are you going manual steering or power? Notice you still have the power brakes in, does it look like you'll be able to keep them with your headers? I'm running same headers with 2" primaries with spread port, thank you Hedman or I would have had to build my own lol. I have all the parts and will start to assemble mine in the next couple weeks.

    • @304customsgarage
      @304customsgarage  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I'm going to keep the powersteering for now. The headers are really close to the brake booster also and mine are only the 1-3/4 version. I want to keep the power brakes also but not opposed to switching if I have too. I would like to find a smaller booster for it for more clearance if could but im going to try this out for now and hope it doesn't hit anything. 🤞

      @heshtesh ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@304customsgarage ; I recently read about a booster that will fit the application and will forward it to you if I can find it again, i'm going with the Strange Engineering manual booster kit and I installed a new Saginaw manual steering box, they charged more for not having a trade in then they did for the new box.

    • @304customsgarage
      @304customsgarage  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yeah if you come across it let me know I'd appreciate it! I've saw that brake kit also, it's nice stuff.

    Did that lower outlet on the radiator end up being a problem like you were concerned about

    • @304customsgarage
      @304customsgarage  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I haven't mounted the core support and radiator up yet permanently for ease of access to the front of the truck so haven't for sure yet got to check.

    Have you had a change to evaluate the radiator running?

    Hey how did the Superior radiator cool your S10? What lower hose did you use?

      I've not actually completed it yet so haven't driven it anywhere. As for the lower hose I have a universal for now but will try to get the best fit one if the universal flex one doesn't work

    Do you have the overall height on this radiator? Trying to see if it will work with what I’m running

    What accessory drive system are you running? I’m trying to decide what to use on my s10 swap

    • @304customsgarage

      All of that stuff I acquired from summit racing, it was their brand aluminum pulleys, etc. The power steering pump one however came from Jegs (same as the pump).

    How long did it take for you to get your superior radiator? I really want to try one. But it seems hot or miss on quality and production time. People have reported months of waiting getting the run around

    • @304customsgarage
      @304customsgarage  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I actually got this through their eBay vs. their site. It came within the same week I ordered it. As far as quality I havent tested it yet but I did read the same kinda stuff you mentioned but I decided to give it a try so we'll see.

    Does not cool my stock Ls swap 2000 gmc Sonoma. Had to tap the threads. Spent a lot of money and it just does not work. I put the factory one on and it cools much better.

    • @304customsgarage

      @daveconroy4539 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @304customsgarage No problem. I paid a lot for it so I would not have to cut my support and my temp was getting over 216 if i was sitting at a stop light,I put factory v6 back in and it runs 185 all day long with dodge intrepid fans. Just don't want anyone having same problem. $700 dollar garage ornimant.
