  • In today's project, the Timberwolf Pro HD XL firewood processor is back on the wood yard at the farm. This time we’ve got it paired up with a Timberwolf 24 foot conveyor. We’re using the Kioti NX5510 tractor and grapple to load Oak logs onto the deck. We’ll split them down into firewood, and use the conveyor to make a pile right in front of the barn door.

      You have a nice set up in your wood yard, If you had the money would you consider the JAPA 365, which the 4 6 8 way wedges that produces better wood then the Timber Wolf processor, it Recycles much faster then the timber Wolf, what are you thoughts,

    My dog Ruby had 4 rain-paws on our evening walk. We cleaned out the water bars on the driveways in preparation for whatever rain we get from Nicole. We could use some rain, just not all at once please! I have a big roller magnet for cleaning up burn piles. Would have loaned it to you if you were nearby.

    • @FoxfireProjects
      @FoxfireProjects  ปีที่แล้ว

      Hahaha! It's definitely rain paws season. So far, we've just had easy showers, which is what we need. Big rains this time of year normally mean it stays wet until Spring. I should invest in a magnet. The funny part is I didn't know I had dropped the key for about 5 minutes. Just couldn't wrap my brain around why it wasn't working 😂

    I keep I really strong magnet at my processor for just such things as small nuts bolts key ways saved me many hours over the last 12 year digging in saw dust looking for that nut from the saw bar when I dropped into the saw dust changing the chain

    Thanks for not hiding the resplit problem, as I suspect some other processing videos do.

    • @FoxfireProjects
      @FoxfireProjects  ปีที่แล้ว

      Not really a problem, unless you're wanting small splits like I'm going for. The wedge is adjustable up and down, so it can be positioned for the ideal split on even the largest size capable of going through the machine. For normal firewood, very little re-splitting is needed, at least on this processor. I could have re-fed the larger pieces back in to get the sizing my customers use, but this way I get to make 2 videos for you guys 😎 If I were going processor full time, I would have a custom wedge for the smaller wood for sure. Always appreciate you watching!

      @@FoxfireProjects
      Ordinarily a person would use a 6-way knife on a 14-in log I suppose. The split sides would be 7 inches and the bark side would be 7 inches. That piece of wood is too large. 14-inch would be for a medium sized processor. A medium size processor will not have enough force for a 8 or 12 way for average wood. Where am I wrong on this line of reasoning?

    • @FoxfireProjects
      @FoxfireProjects  ปีที่แล้ว

      Typically, at least on processors, wedges are built to fit up to the max diameter log that the machine can take through. Everyone's firewood needs are a bit different, but the majority of folks making normal firewood, won't have a re-split issue. Sure, there will be a few that push around a knot making larger pieces here and there, but for the most part, finished firewood is being produced on a single push. Folks like me, that are going for a 2" split for pizza oven or specialty cooking wood, will always have to re-split on a processor, or use a 2 machine approach like I'm doing here. That smaller split is worth more to the customer, so it's a trade off in the end.

      In the videos, the processors work fine but when you look at the numbers, they don't look so good. You said nothing about my numbers so are you trying to do a cover up on the numbers problem also.
      A little geometry here. The circumference of a circle is approximately 3 and 1/7 X diameter.
      The situation may be even worse than I stated. The use of an 8-way wedge is restricted to smaller logs. For larger logs you take out the 8-way and put in the four-way.

    • @FoxfireProjects
      @FoxfireProjects  ปีที่แล้ว

      @@jakebredthauer5100 Not covering anything up. Just don’t have the information you’re looking for unfortunately. Logs go on, firewood comes up. If a few pieces are too big, I run them back through the wedge. No need to overthink the process. Works great for me. Thanks again for watching!

    Wolf Ridge makes good stuff, & I know Mike Morgan uses their stuff. After going to the Paul Bunyan show in OH a month ago though I was most impressed with Easton Made. I thought everything they manufactured was super heavy duty which is necessary for wood handling. Next time you pass through central WV let me know maybe you can stop in for lunch at Stonewall Resort or something.

    • @jakebredthauer5100

      Are you getting timber wolf mixed up with wolf ridge? There are so many companies that it is impossible to recognize all of them. When the car industry was starting I heard there were about 50 different manufacturers.

    • @FoxfireProjects
      @FoxfireProjects  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I hate I missed Paul Bunyan. Will definitely be there next year. Eastonmade is great stuff, love watching Andrew's videos. It's great to see the following they have, speaks to their quality for sure. Will definitely let you know next time I'm in your neck of the woods, Stonewall Resort looks like a nice place! Thanks for the kind words. I'm not too familiar with the Japa processors. Looking at their website, they appear to be well thought out and well made. They do strike me as being a bit undersized for the type of wood we have in our area. If we were processing
