@@PatrickRambles Maybe I'm wrong, but I noticed YEARS AGO that when Samsung went 120 Hz OLED on their tablets, this issue disappeared. I have an "ancient" 2008 Samsung tablet that doesn't have noticeable scan-out skewing (thanks for introducing the term to my vocabulary).
That was a great explanation, thanks. I’m one of those that doesn’t see the jelly scroll unless I REALLY look for it, so it has never bothered me. I’ll be sticking with my 6 until the battery fails.
I've upgraded to the mini 7, picking it up today. I've used the mini 6 for a couple of years and the jelly scroll has not been an issue for me. Great video, keep them coming.
Legit question. I have a mini 6 and haven't really noticed the jelly scroll. I can see it if I REALLY look for it, but day to day it has never been an issue. But I also have an M1 air and an M1 12.9" pro that I use for different purposes. They all share the ability to use the Pencil2. Why are you going from the 6 to the 7? Is it for AI, just to be on the newest hardware, or some other reason? I'm very curious because I keep waffling about switching to the 7, or just keeping the 6. I don't really need the AI functions on it, since I have an iPhone 16 Pro, and the 2 M1 iPads in other form factors.
If you’re able to get a nice trade in deal ( I got 350 for my 256 wifi at Best Buy), it only costs an extra $150 to upgrade to the new one. My battery died so fast these days that the battery replacement would have costed the same amount.
Mini 6 and 7 ARE THE SAME screen, so u are paying for slightly better specs. What a joke! Jelly scroll only if u scroll fast back and forth on purpose. Screen is still razed fast
I saw a couple tech reviewers testing for jelly scroll in horizontal mode, not seeing it, and saying it was fixed. I was like, wasn’t the problem in vertical mode? 🤦♂️
Just returned my mini 7, I think what apple did to try to mitigate the jelly scrolling is that they slowed down the refresh rate in portrait mode to try to make it less obvious but in doing so made it more choppy and blurry. For me, I think it almost looks worse than the mini 6 which I also returned. Will just have to hold out until they come out with a120hz version.
I almost returned my mini because of this. I ended up keeping it and still like the device. But it's baffling that they didn't fix it in a 2nd gen update.

Mainly use it for gym training as a notepad now so it don’t bother me that much but I might actually upgrade just for better performance regarding jelly scrolling. I would definitely use it more for reading and content consumption. The rest of the updates I would call quality of life Improvements. @ Yeap, so the main point then will be why is it so pronounced in the latest model? Kinda feel that it could be a design issue. Would love to keep the latest model but it’s still very visible. True that we don’t scroll that fast but when searching for parts of a long document fast scrolling is inevitable and it does shows

Thank you for the review, I was especially looking forward to a review from you, as it is the most accurate and truthful, but as I thought, the jelly remained, but they really reduced it, but at 60 hertz, it will always be noticeable.
This was a great video, thank you. I posted a thread on release day on Reddit pretty much stating exactly what you said in this video, except I got flamed for it 😂 I think a lot of people who had purchased their mini7 online after hearing reviews without checking for themselves got a little bit a little salty at me for just telling them the truth that the jelly scroll is not gone 😂
Guys, I recently switched from the iPad Pro 11” M1 to the iPad Mini, and it’s been a fantastic decision. If you need a “Pro” experience, just get a Pro iPad. For me, if I have demanding tasks, I use my MacBook or iPhone Pro Max. The iPad Mini fits my needs perfectly and handles everything I require with ease. And for those concerned about the bezels-honestly, they’re not too big. They provide just the right amount of space to comfortably hold the device without accidental touches.
Thank you for this review. Jelly scrolling is really annoying and easily visible. Bothering me and surprisingly didn’t fixed on new iPad mini. Apple! How are you? After 3 years you didn’t fix the jelly scrolling. The only your capability is not having apple intelligence on iPad mini 6. Just for selling the new iPad mini 6.0001 ??? 👎👎👎👎👎👎
I'm one of those fortunate people who isn't bothered by the jelly scrolling thing and can barely see it. I also legitimately don't notice much of an improvement with OLED screens over LCD with the exception of the peak outdoor brightness or in very low light environments where the backlight bleed becomes noticeable on some LCDs. Now refresh rate, that's something I do notice and it's always disappointing when I pick up and use a device with a 60Hz display these days.
The benefits of OLED displays become apparent when the screen is bright and the blacks are super black. It's because the pixels are effectively turned off which results in a much darker black. Other than that, a nice LCD screen can look almost as good, I agree.
Was really hoping for A18, so it’d have a more power efficient chip. As well as an OLED display that gets brighter and dimmer. And rid of 60Hz already. Imagine the battery life the Mini could get with these improvements. I had been considering selling my Air 4 and accessories for a Mini 7, but I’m uncertain given this underwhelming refresh. To be clear it’s exactly what I expected, but that doesn’t make it any more exciting.

Since use in landscape only..why did not see nor care. 6 has been my daily tool and use over the phone. So moving to 7 not because of what tech folks need but storage for me. Thanks Pat. I think you guys worry too much on nonessential issues. You have other tech to keep you entertain.
It's not an issue for me personally but there are people that legitimately get headaches from this. It's highly subjective and for those people it really is a big deal.
With how much tech has advanced…I thought they would be able to put Oled into the iPad mini without increasing the cost of the iPad ….guess profit is not there yet. The refresh rate is not that big of a difference to me unless im doing some FPS games, but Oled has been a major difference in all facets.
Perfect description of the jelly scrolling problem , a shame how apple plays with its loyal costumers, i have being waiting 3 long years to renew my son`s iPad mini, i find no reason to upgrade , 60 hz its a shame nowdays, no oled or mini led another shame, that messed up processor another
I have literally had the mini 6 twice. The first time I felt like my eyes could not handle the 60 Hz and the wonky, shrunken down resolution. But I bought it a second time just to use as an E reader and TH-cam device, and in the end sold it again because of the display, and just switched back to my 11 inch Pro and a standalone Kindle. The thing is that I don’t have anything against 60 Hz necessarily. I currently use an iPhone 15 Plus, and the implementation of 60 Hz on that phone is much, much better than the implementation on the mini 6. There is something about the antialiasing used on that phone that makes 60 Hz fundamentally different than on the mini 6, or even on iPhones that you might limit to 60 Hz to try out the resolution. It’s just better. I think it’s the wonky implementation of 60 Hz on the mini 6 that made the “jelly scroll“ issue feel so awful. So whether or not they re-oriented the display controller, if it’s still the same 60 Hz implementation with none of the technology used on later 60 Hz iPhones, then it’s still going to drive people crazy.
It would have been so awesome if Apple tried to improve upon the iPad mini and create a true successor because the iPad mini 7 isn’t a true 7. even Apple doesn’t call it the iPad mini 7 but instead „iPad mini a17 pro“. Heck, it not only uses the old shell etc but doesn’t even come with new wallpapers. 😂 Maybe the iPad mini 8 will be a more modern design because personally speaking the iPad mini 6 is my favorite and most used Apple device (next to my Apple Watch). Guess I want an iPad mini PRO 😂
@@PatrickRambles Iwatch your show a lot, maybe do a thing on the pencils. I did not know you have to buy a new pencil with the gen 7 mini pad. What a crock!!!
@marks-story thanks for the support! it's because the position of the magnets changed. Same for the M4 iPad Pro. By the way, you can actually use the cheaper USB C Apple Pencil as well.
Thanks a lot for your explanation of the Jelly screen. It's such a mess that Apple offers us 60Hz and Jelly screen at the same time in 2024😄Take care, Patrick!
Just subscribed. I really enjoyed this vid on the iPad mini. You go in depth at a technical level and break it down to bite size pieces. Thank you 😊 I personally love the iPad mini for its compact form factor but also owning its bigger bro the iPad Pro. I’m ready to upgrade from the mini5 but can’t swallow those huge bezels and jelly scroll. It make the device look dated sorry Apple 🍎 lets hope you do better on the next one 🥲
I have a Mini 6. I don’t play attention enough for it to affect me, and the issue isn’t noticeable for me to pay attention. So I less jelly, okay. Will I get the new iPad Mini…? Well, I’m still leaning to no, not right now, I’ll wait. I’m kinda leaning to buy an iPad Pro M4 11”. Because the way I see it. The Mini 7 has the same chip as my iPhone 15 Pro, which might mean that by the time iPhone 17 Pro comes out, the Mini 8 might have the A18 Pro, which is in the iPhone 16 Pro. So one step behind the iPhone. Only twice when both the Air and Mini had been released did it shared the same processor. The Mini is like somewhere between the iPad and Air. I want an "Air quality” in my Minis. That being said, we might see another Air until 2026. Will Mini finally get the M1 or will they jump it to M4, or stay the course towards A18 Pro? And will the Air jump like the Pro and get the M4? I’ve kept my Mini 1 until Mini 5. If I stayed the course on longevity, it my behoove me to go Pro. But, I like the Mini size. Not going Pro is the reason why I traded my Mac Mini for a MBA. And knowing my history, I went from iPad 2 to Mini 1, to Mini 5 to Air 4 back down to the Mini 6 all because of what I use it for, and portability and form factor. I like the larger screen for handwriting, typing and video/photo editing. I would like to have Stage Manager because of needing a browser for research and Ulysses for writing, but that is the another reason that I got a MBA. So, probably stick with my iPad Mini 6, unless there is a really good reason for me to get the Mini 7. Based my needs, trends, and the technology, I probably keep my Mini 6 until the Mini 8 or 10, or Mini Pro should it ever become reality. Oh look a mini sub-review to your review lol :)

I tested it in store today and cancelled my order. Unfortunately no point to upgrade from 6 whatsoever
Thanks waiting for a full one :)
Very soon!
I have noticed a jelly scroll effect on my 7 in portrait. It’s pretty minor so it doesn’t bother me but I never had a 6 so I can’t compare. It really should have a 120 Hz screen, though.
Yep. Same for me, it's there but it doesn't bother me. It didn't on the 6 either. Some people really have a hard time with it, even get headaches. Agreed on te 120hz
To be honest, earlier iPad mini does not have jelly scroll issue, whichever the orientation. Even my first gen mini does not so a lot of those reasons just doesn’t make sense
It obviously does. You're one of the lucky ones that doesn't see it (I barely see it also).
@ Yeap, so the main point then will be why is it so pronounced in the latest model? Kinda feel that it could be a design issue. Would love to keep the latest model but it’s still very visible. True that we don’t scroll that fast but when searching for parts of a long document fast scrolling is inevitable and it does shows
Hold up, why did you get the adverts for Cool Blue? That is a local company only operating in the Netherlands, haha.
I'm Dutch lol. I live in Belgium though and coolblue also operates here.
@@PatrickRambles, All this time watching your videos, I never knew you were Dutch, lol. You do an excellent job hiding your typical Dutch accent in English-way better than our politicians can, hahaha. on a side note, I really enjoy your videos! keep up the good work ;)
Thanks for the video, very usefull!!
Glad it was helpful!
Fantastic video, thank you!
Glad you liked it!
Thank you for the review, I was especially looking forward to a review from you, as it is the most accurate and truthful, but as I thought, the jelly remained, but they really reduced it, but at 60 hertz, it will always be noticeable.
I appreciate the kind words!
Bro you do realize everyone use lcd and none one complained? Like its an issue with this lcd not lcd in general
please do a comparison between mini 7 and air M2
because they have a same price
You're lying. The 11-inch iPad Air cost $100 more than the new iPad mini.

M2 with 128GB and mini 256
Great video
I became a subscriber today. Very informative!
Awesome! Thank you!
Yep. At least now you can clearly see it on video so your name is cleared 😂
Problem is people really appreciate the form factor of the much smaller mini, so it's understandable that they'd want to enjoy that screen too.
@@PatrickRambles Haha my bad I didn’t mean you 🤭 I mean everyone… respect big bro 🫡
Other than that, a nice LCD screen can look almost as good, I agree.
since its simply a chip swap so hardware remains unchanged along with the issues it had as well
Was really hoping for A18, so it’d have a more power efficient chip.
Wow, awesome arms!
Really good video that puts to bed a lot of the nonsense about jelly-scroll being unique to the iPad mini 6. It's on all 60Hz LCD tablets.
compatibility list for pencils does not show 7gen
Because the iPad is newer than the compatibility list. I'm sure it will be updated. The pencil pro is compatible.
@@PatrickRambles ihave a mini gen 6, a 2022, 2020 iPad and have 2 pro apple pencils and they work on all except 2024 mini gen 7. It wont connect and can’t pair because it wont connect
Just the review I was waiting for here. 🎉
🙏🏻🙏🏻
@@PatrickRambles I just wanted stage manager and 120hz on this lol 😭
Hello from France !
Bonsoir!
None on my mini 7...had mini 6 before and jelly scrolling not bad
I might have bought one if they had moved the camera to the ‘landscape’ mode.
Interesting! It's the only tablet I prefer to hold in portrait mode 😅
Thank you for your informative content. Great channel 😄👍🏻
Thank you!
👏🏿Ok, ur definitely the one I’ve been waiting to hear from on the mini 7. This is just a little teaser, can’t wait for the full review. But i believe, I’m still going to pick it up. Thanks for the great content, peace and blessings ✊🏿.
Thanks man, I genuinely appreciate that. I'll be sure to make it a good one!
@@PatrickRambles can’t wait, enjoy ur day.
I have a quick question for u, if u had to pick 1, would it be iPad Pro 11in or the iPad mini? Love to hear ur thoughts.
Love the box lid magician swirl! 😂
Too me eleventyfive takes.
Good thing I did not place a pre-prder for the iPad mini ... In the meantime, I will carry on using my iPad Air 4th Gen.
With the reason behind the jelly scroll, this should mean that your iPad also jelly scrolls but in the landscape orientation
We have the ipad m4 pro and an mini 6 i guess wel upgrade the mini 6 once a mini comes in a 120hz screen
Thanks for this, and a shame that I can still see it. Otherwise love the iPad mini form factor. Should have had a better display too.
Paying 500$ to not being able to use it in a diff orientation, you got brain damage mf. Like serious one
With how much tech has advanced…I thought they would be able to put Oled into the iPad mini without increasing the cost of the iPad ….guess profit is not there yet. The refresh rate is not that big of a difference to me unless im doing some FPS games, but Oled has been a major difference in all facets.
Never really saw the jelly on my mini 6. Really don't care anyway since I traded it in for the mini 7. Which is so much better.
Patrick buys the charcoal gray Smart Folio and shows us how it looks on this new iPad mini 7 🥰
Perfect description of the jelly scrolling problem , a shame how apple plays with its loyal costumers, i have being waiting 3 long years to renew my son`s iPad mini, i find no reason to upgrade , 60 hz its a shame nowdays, no oled or mini led another shame, that messed up processor another
I barely see it. And not looking for it. So meh.
cool story bro
Ghost touches iPad
😂
I’ll repair iPad 2nd gen
Same!
Currently watching with a mini 7 and I don’t have jelly scroll
I didn't noticed it on iPad mini 7, but then that comparison to 6 made it obvious 🤣 I don't think I will bother by it that much tbh.
Me either. Some people really do get headaches. It's strange how it affects everyone differently.
@@PatrickRambles It’s a compatibility issue 😉
To be honest, I almost buy the iPad Mini if the bezel could have been slimmer and touch ID on the home button is fine to me
I luv my ipad mini 6. Intent to getting ipad mini 7
O melhor vídeo, mas poderia ser em 60fps. De toda forma, vemos que melhorou o problema em cerca de 50%
ipad mini 7 gen only works with ipad pencil pro. Other generations of pencil does not work with A17
Correct
@@PatrickRambles Iwatch your show a lot, maybe do a thing on the pencils. I did not know you have to buy a new pencil with the gen 7 mini pad. What a crock!!!
@marks-story thanks for the support! it's because the position of the magnets changed. Same for the M4 iPad Pro. By the way, you can actually use the cheaper USB C Apple Pencil as well.
My eyeballs is on panick every time im scanning my notes. Thats the main issue in that jelly scroll
best jelly scroll in depth review. lol.
Thanks a lot for your explanation of the Jelly screen. It's such a mess that Apple offers us 60Hz and Jelly screen at the same time in 2024😄Take care, Patrick!
Glad it helped!
I didn’t know jelly scrolling was an issue on the new iPad mini
At least OLED 60 Hz instead of the LCD Screen could have been added to the update.
Just test with a page full of text like a book if you really want to know what the issue is
Darn. I was hoping for 120hz on the mini or at the very least 90hz
Same.
Just subscribed. I really enjoyed this vid on the iPad mini. You go in depth at a technical level and break it down to bite size pieces. Thank you 😊
I personally love the iPad mini for its compact form factor but also owning its bigger bro the iPad Pro. I’m ready to upgrade from the mini5 but can’t swallow those huge bezels and jelly scroll. It make the device look dated sorry Apple 🍎 lets hope you do better on the next one 🥲
Thanks man! And yes, understand the hesitation to upgrade.
