I travel a lot, shorter one to three days trips, and when I do, I don't pack my Asus G15, which weighs over three kilos, with the power brick. This is why I need an iPad mini
I’ve had the mini 6 and 7. Both too small when you have been using larger IPads. I found with both the 6 and 7 that the power button and volume buttons are poorly located. You’d expect the new 7 to have Face ID. Nope still has a finger print scanner. They may be great for travel. Step up and buy at least a 10 inch model.
The price is interesting, because for what you're getting, compared to a new iPhone it's a great deal in some sense. But when you compare it to the iPad air, as you mentioned, not a great value.
It was on sale on Black Friday for $399 at Costco. It’s still more expensive than the iPad 10.2 which is consistently $299 or less. Right now, that 10.2 iPad is about $250. If I were you, I would have kept my other iPad as well. You can’t expect a smaller device like this to be your main device. That’s not practical, but I love the portability. Most people use larger iPads for productivity, but as you mentioned, they’re too big to lug around. My biggest issue is that it shouldn’t cost more than the iPad 10.2, which is a happy medium for most folks because of the price and portability.
It reminds me of the 12” MacBook. You’re paying more for the form factor I guess and I just got the iPad mini 7 my first mini and I have a 12.9” pro and I love my new iPad for the basic stuff I plan to use it for TH-cam and maybe PUBG mobile… I wasn’t a gamer either but u should try PUBG it’s super fun once you play a few rounds
I thought I would watch a normal Ipad mini review, didn't know I would bump into some Adam Elliot's aesthetics ❤ loved it. Probably the Ipad mini will be my only Apple device ever. ☺
I was holding out for a good release of iPad mini, but Apple had other plans and barely did anything special to iPad mini 7. I’m glad I waited and got m4 11” iPad Pro. It’s perfect 👌
the iPad Pro 11in is both so good and so bad. I wonder if I should have gone with the 13in. Then, at least it could be a better, more expensive second screen for my MBP 14 when I’m out and about. I don’t really see why I would need an iPad Mini when I already have a phone that is almost that same size.
Awesome video, I’ve really enjoyed it! Useful as well, I’ve been on the fence abt buying the mini 7… at any rate, u have a new subscriber, loved your video n energy 😃
I bought the Mini 7 thinking I had more time to return it. I missed the return date(14 day) by 3 days so I won’t b returning it and I don’t like it. I got the maxed out WiFi+cellular 512GB. $1092 with an apple case and sales tax. The display sucks. Seems slow after using my M4 iPad Pro. I only wanted it as a travel iPad so I’ll make the best of it.
Don’t fret over it. It’s still a good travel iPad because of its size. Maybe over specked a bit since it’s not trying to do anything compared to an iPad Pro. I myself almost bought it but the wife convinced me that it just too small for photo editing, so ended up getting the iPad 10th generation. If it really bugs you to use it, trade it in, sure you’ll take a loss but that’s life. Then you can get the iPad you should have picked up, or keep it until Apple comes out with a true IPad Pro in this small size.
You should’ve waited until last week because mine is eligible for the holiday return until January 8th. I purchased mine 3 days ago but I haven’t opened it yet because I am waiting for the screen protector to arrive.
yea I don't get how people can use an iPad as their only computer. iPads aren't really good for anything when you already have a phone and a MacBook can do way more. That shot of you trying to use the keyboard for this iPad just seems daunting when MacBooks exist... that's my .02 though I've purchased and sold so many iPads
I bought the Mini 7 after waiting a lot because of the hype with Mini 6 ...and everything is sooo small! You can put the fonts and icons bigger but the OS is not well made or fit properly and for some apps to take notes is not enough screen unless you take kind of post it size notes...or the webpages are the mobile version, so it is like reading on your phone or a little bigger. The screen is laggy even with the new chip. I don't know, but I feel I little bit disappoint after every TH-camr talking about the benefits of this size. Perfect for reading a book (maybe a kindle could be better and cheaper) and watching TH-cam in bed but not much more...
12:50 Yeah, they absolutely ain't interested in it despite the huge following. Meanwhile, the iPhone mini was a failed experiment due to being "too little, too late"; by the time it came around, folks have been spoiled hard by the massive screens...goin' back to smaller was simply & absolutely NOT an option for those hardcore folks.
Lol.. I wanna hear him explain "painfully". I have yet to read a review "OMG this is the best thing since Apple pie!" yeah apple pie. No one.. just letting better chip.. why they didn't put the A18 in.. things like that. Seems SOME are making something out of nothing to get views
This channel used to be called Painfully Honest Tech. This is a thing I've done for about 10 years. And all you have to do is type iPad Mini 7 in TH-cam search to find a ton of "The iPad Mini 7 is the Best iPad Ever" videos. So...yeah.
The price hold me off as well. The mini 6 is $350 and can sometimes be found open box even cheaper. But then its so close in price to the mini 7 that I would rather bump up but then its too expensive again lol.
I kinda felt like PHT was built on negativity, or peoplle expected negativity from it. The growth was stalled and I needed to do something different. All good things come to an end. 🤷🏻
@thejasontlewis I don't know...negativity never come to my mind when I heard it...honesty whether you like it or not came to my mind...it was unique and the way you started your video by saying it with that enthusiasm... It Was really great.
Jason, I have to say, I truly enjoyed your intro 😂. Although I am retired and lazy, I do a lot of reading and sometimes consume a lot of streaming, but not having the stomach u r proud of, my elbows on the bed serve me well as a viewing platform. Having started with the IPad 1, then the 5, I do like the speed of the 7, size, portability and the memory. So I am content. Maybe you should do some improv, which seems like your niche .. thank you 👍🏼
Thanks!. I definitely need to get rid of some of this belly. It started durning the pandemic and continued to grow. I'm going to do more videos like this. It was fun.
I think Apple has just gotten lazy or lacks creativity anymore. Resting on their laurels with no exciting new products or designs across their line-up. Maybe an iPad mini starting at 249$ that is just used for simple games, content viewing, and reading in a pinch (I, too love my kindle for reading) would be better.
I think $250 oe $300 would be much more attractive, but then that steps on the base model iPad. And they can do just enough to market the Mini as a more "premium" device.
iPad's are good for listening to podcasts while in the shower, and its a nice remote control for some desktop apps like Logic Pro. But I use to want the Biggest iPad pro then I picked up the base A14 iPad Pro and well its fine and costs like $299 so I'm happy!
I just returned it for the Pro cause for $500, it really does nothing for me. It should carry lesser processors like the base model iPad so you can make it for cheaper. Cause you can’t do shit with this.
the chip def isn't overkill... imo, the ipad mini can always use the CPU upgrades... ik ppl like this don't game.. but ipad minis are very very popular for gaming. more power in cpu/gpu perf is always good/welcome... but ya... for ppl who use their ipad for youtube and email.. ya it's overkill [you can do that with a $60 amazon fire tablet]... but that isn't everyone. oh and i'm not talking about tetris as "gaming" lol would have absolutely loved to see an M3-M4 chip in the mini
a tiny lcd screen for $500 seems like a bad deal to me. The screen is much lower quality than any OLED screen attached to the phone u already have. So getting a worse (but slightly bigger) screen than your phone eith all of the same gunctions just doesnt seem to be a good deal at all. Im sure its highly profitable for apple to keep selling lcd screens when most people wont accept them on phones anymore. I kove apple its just an observation.
Totally agree with you. It is no different from the iPad mini 6 I used to own. I bought this new one and I returned it within a couple of days because I realized that Apple were robbing their customers. I cannot tell the difference of having extra RAM and a new processor in a tablet which has such an awful operating system. You literally cannot do anything with this iPad because not having the M1 chip means you do not get proper monitor support and the display is just too small and incredibly mediocre for the price that customers have to pay. It is simply just a huge phone without cellular if you bought the Wi-Fi version. The speakers are still not good enough as they do not get loud enough and I absolutely hate having to look at this screen after I have just put my Samsung S24 ultra down on the table. Moving from a 120 Hz AMOLED Samsung display to this 1980s LCD display is a horrendous experience. It is like trading Margot Robbie for Hillary Clinton. Sorry Apple but this is a massive corporate grift. As an experiment, I went out and bought the $99 Samsung A9 tablet and it can literally do everything the iPad mini 7 can do albeit with a vastly inferior processor. I don’t think we will see the iPad mini refreshed ever again. Garbage.
Awesome intro and outro, great info and some humor. Bravo for a great video Jason.

I thought I would watch a normal Ipad mini review, didn't know I would bump into some Adam Elliot's aesthetics ❤ loved it. Probably the Ipad mini will be my only Apple device ever. ☺
First time I tried anything like this. It was fun!
@@thejasontlewis I have even subscribed because of it. 😁 Please keep doing it ❤
I was holding out for a good release of iPad mini, but Apple had other plans and barely did anything special to iPad mini 7. I’m glad I waited and got m4 11” iPad Pro. It’s perfect 👌
Yeah, if I had it to do over, that's what I would have done. The iPad Air is compelling as well.
Thanks for the video. I appreciate your thoughts. Will it also work with the prior gen Apple Pencil?
“I didn’t think to do that” even though it prompts you to register more than 1 finger in both orientations during set-up… mmmmkay
Great video Jason, avid mini 6 user and I don’t see a reason yet to upgrade to the 7. Thanks
Le seul iPad qui est une vraie tablette. Je l'adore,
So will you take the ipad mini back?
I really don’t notice the jelly scroll unless I’m specifically looking for it
Doing the old reach around?
Holy guacamole i have never felt more called out during an intro
the iPad Pro 11in is both so good and so bad. I wonder if I should have gone with the 13in. Then, at least it could be a better, more expensive second screen for my MBP 14 when I’m out and about.
I don’t really see why I would need an iPad Mini when I already have a phone that is almost that same size.
The 11 is probably the sweet spot. I love the expanse of the 13" but every time I feel like it's too much.
Ugh, I'm sorry to hear that, that's an absurdly small return window.
Dagnabbit! I just hate when that happens…goddamn return windows.
Why is everyone crying over this??….🥴🥴🥴
You should’ve waited until last week because mine is eligible for the holiday return until January 8th. I purchased mine 3 days ago but I haven’t opened it yet because I am waiting for the screen protector to arrive.
Cool videos Jason ! Great sense of humor... The intro was 🔥😅
Thanks 👍
It’s funny that you said that the A17 is overkill and the reason I didn’t get the mini is because I didn’t think the A17 was enough
What are you going to do that will require more?
@ gaming. I ended up getting an M2 iPad Air 11" instead
which app did u use for reading comic?
Also why didn’t they add FACE ID. Im sure they had left over?
Such a useful enjoyable review .. thanks so much
Thank you ! I'm glad it was fun.
yea I don't get how people can use an iPad as their only computer. iPads aren't really good for anything when you already have a phone and a MacBook can do way more. That shot of you trying to use the keyboard for this iPad just seems daunting when MacBooks exist... that's my .02 though I've purchased and sold so many iPads
Agreed.
The intro itself made me laugh out loud. Great work!
Thanks. It was fun to make.
Here in the Philippines the cost of the iPad mini 7 128gb is $603.82 😅
I love your sense of humor! That intro gave me a good laugh 😂
So...yeah.
should of came with A18PRO but I understand they had A17PRO left over
The price hold me off as well. The mini 6 is $350 and can sometimes be found open box even cheaper. But then its so close in price to the mini 7 that I would rather bump up but then its too expensive again lol.
You might as well go for the 6. the only real difference is the storage.
Why did you change the channel name?
It was unique.
And I miss your intro.
Tech so honest that hurts, 😅
I kinda felt like PHT was built on negativity, or peoplle expected negativity from it. The growth was stalled and I needed to do something different. All good things come to an end. 🤷🏻
@thejasontlewis I don't know...negativity never come to my mind when I heard it...honesty whether you like it or not came to my mind...it was unique and the way you started your video by saying it with that enthusiasm... It Was really great.
Not a bad value because I payed 1400 Euros for the iPad Pro M4. Only because I need the flash with a slightly bigger screen 😂
Great video. I know you got bored of tech reviews, but you make them interesting .
Yeah, gotta keep it fresh. This one was fun.
I wish it was only like 300. Also, I think I've mentioned this but I am pretty sure we live in the same area.
I wish it had 120 hz
New colors and landscape camera and thinner bezels
Yep.
Better better life and brighter/better screen is all
Dream iPad mini…
1TB
OLED
120HZ
A18PRO
It was fun.
Enjoyed your video, great job.
Nice intro! Many people wonder why would you get rid of the iPad Pro M4, but at the end of the day, it's your choice.
I ask myself why I got rid of the M4. The 13" was too big, but the 11" woulf have been perfect. It was an aborted attemp to go all-iPad all the time.
Had the conversation with my wife over dinner, then I saw your opening. You aren’t doing me any favors bro. Guess I’m keeping my iPad Pro M4 11
I'm trying to help others through my stupidity.
Me to I own the iPad mini 7 i really like it
iPad's are good for listening to podcasts while in the shower, and its a nice remote control for some desktop apps like Logic Pro. But I use to want the Biggest iPad pro then I picked up the base A14 iPad Pro and well its fine and costs like $299 so I'm happy!
We need an iPad Air Mini; same specs in smaller form factor.
I just returned it for the Pro cause for $500, it really does nothing for me.
It should carry lesser processors like the base model iPad so you can make it for cheaper. Cause you can’t do shit with this.
Great video! Thanks 🙏🏼
Hey, saw you reading absolute Batman, how do you like it? For me personally, I love it😂.
I've only read that first issue. I thought it was pretty cool. Looking forward to checking out the rest.
@thejasontlewis second issue is out now, i gotta go check it out too
4:13 No. No it’s not 😂 love the intro! Digging the background music. Great video sir 🤘
Not sure why people comment on a product they know isn’t meant for them lol.
I subscribed based on your intro alone :)
the chip def isn't overkill... imo, the ipad mini can always use the CPU upgrades... ik ppl like this don't game.. but ipad minis are very very popular for gaming. more power in cpu/gpu perf is always good/welcome... but ya... for ppl who use their ipad for youtube and email.. ya it's overkill [you can do that with a $60 amazon fire tablet]... but that isn't everyone.
oh and i'm not talking about tetris as "gaming" lol
would have absolutely loved to see an M3-M4 chip in the mini
So he regrets the pixel fold purchase?
Here to request a video about your thoughts on general AI and the current state of this buzzword. Nice and (painfully) honest review! :)
a tiny lcd screen for $500 seems like a bad deal to me.
I'm assuming you returned this but I could be wrong... we could use an updated vid
I ended up keeping it. I'll update soon.
Garbage.
Makes me think that you can get a 65 inch tv for similar money.
Apple does deliver off there website. You can buy things without going to an Apple Store 😂
liked just for the intro
Thanks!
